Disney Adventure Cruise Cancelled After Guests Spend Just One Night Aboard

Key Aspects:

  • Disney Adventure‘s May 7, 2026 cruise is cancelled with guests disembarking the ship and transferring to local hotels.
  • Technical difficulties impacting the ship’s propulsion are believed to be the cause of the cancellation.
  • The Singapore-based ship offers 3- and 4-night cruises to nowhere, but only one sailing is cancelled so far.

Disney Adventure is the magical cruise line’s newest and biggest ship, but at the moment, she’s the biggest problem in the fleet, at least for the up to 6,700 guests that may be onboard.

Those guests won’t be onboard for long, as technical issues have prompted cancellation of the ship’s May 7, 2026 sailing. Guests had already embarked the ship and enjoyed a first night while the vessel remained docked, only to learn the news that their cruise was cancelled the following afternoon.

“We are truly sorry to let you know that we are unable to proceed with your Disney Adventure experience from May 7-11, 2026 as planned,” a letter delivered to guests read. “We understand this is disappointing. We ask that you please begin preparing your personal belongings and luggage. Luggage tags will be delivered to your stateroom shortly.”

The letter noted that all guests will be receiving a 100% refund of their cruise fare and any unused services, such as internet and drink packages.

All guests will also receive a future cruise credit for 50% off another Disney sailing.

Complimentary wi-fi is also being made available to guests so they can rearrange their travel plans as much as possible. Disney Cruise Line is helping with those plans by providing one complimentary night at a local hotel, reimbursement for potential flight change fees, and up to $500 (USD) per stateroom for incidental expenses.

Free shuttle transportation is also being arranged to take guests from Disney Adventure to the designated hotels as they disembark the 208,000-gross-ton ship.

The now-cancelled sailing was to have been a 4-night sailing. Cruise Hive has previously reported that all of Disney Adventure‘s cruises from Singapore are cruises to nowhere without port visits. Instead, the ship is the destination that guests become fully immersed in for pure Disney magic and ambience.

Why the Disney Adventure Cancellation?

Disney Cruise Line has not confirmed any specific reason for the cancellation. Guests onboard the ship, however, have been told it is a technical problem with the ship’s propulsion.

Such a problem could also impact how much power is available for onboard operations. This type of mechanical concern would necessitate significant engineering work, which might require various systems to be shut down while repairs are made.

Because this would impact the onboard experience and could make certain services and activities unavailable, cancellation could be considered preferable to a diminished experience.

Fresh water production as well as waste disposal while the ship remains docked in Singapore could also be factors in why guests must debark the ship rather than remain aboard.

“After embarking the cruise yesterday, we were informed by the captain that the cruise is having some technical issues and engineers are working and that we will set sail soon,” one guest described on Reddit. “Today at approx 2pm Singapore time the captain announced that they are cancelling the adventure.”

Shortly after that announcement, guests began receiving the letters with more information as well as debarkation instructions.

Guests also reported that Disney Cruise Line team members were waiting at the hotels as guests arrived for their overnight accommodations, able to answer questions and help with dining arrangements.

At this time, there is no confirmed impact to any additional sailing, including the ship’s next cruise, a 3-night voyage scheduled to depart Singapore on May 11.

Disney Adventure just debuted with the fleet and welcomed her first guests in March. To have significant technical difficulties this soon in her service life is concerning, and upcoming guests will want to keep in close contact with Disney Cruise Line in case there are further cancellations or other developments.

Over 100 People Sick in Outbreak on Princess Cruises Ship in the Caribbean

Key Aspects:

  • Princess Cruises is navigating its second outbreak of 2026, this time onboard Caribbean Princess.
  • 115 guests and crew members have been sickened by the notorious norovirus.
  • Enhanced sanitation protocols have been implemented onboard and the ship will be deep cleaned upon its arrival in Port Canaveral.

Norovirus strikes again. More than 100 passengers onboard Caribbean Princess have fallen ill from the notorious stomach bug during the vessel’s current 13-night Southern Caribbean voyage, which embarked in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on April 28, 2026.

This marks the fourth outbreak of the year for US-based cruise ships, and is the second outbreak for a Princess Cruises’ ship. Cruise Hive previously reported that the new Star Princess experienced a norovirus outbreak that sickened over 150 people in March.

The current outbreak was confirmed by the CDC’s Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP) on May 7, 2026. For context, cruise ships are required to report gastrointestinal outbreaks once 3% of the onboard population becomes ill.

At the time of this writing, 102 of the 3,116 guests onboard have experienced gastrointestinal symptoms, which equates to 3.3% of the passenger population.

Additionally, 13 of the 1,131 crew members onboard, or 1.2% of employees, have fallen ill. This means that a total of 115 people have become sick, and it’s always possible that more cases will surface before the one-way voyage disembarks in Port Canaveral on May 11.

Caribbean Princess will proceed with its planned calls to Amber Cove, Dominican Republic, on May 8 and Nassau, Bahamas, on May 10 before the sailing concludes, with no itinerary changes reported as a result of the outbreak.

The 112,894-gross ton ship has already visited Princess Cays in the Bahamas, several of the islands in the Netherlands Antilles, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Enhanced Cleaning and Sanitation Underway

Princess Cruises has rolled out enhanced cleaning and sanitation procedures onboard in accordance with the brand’s outbreak prevention and response plan and under the guidance of the VSP.

This includes increased cleaning of high-touch surfaces and public spaces, as well as isolating ill passengers and crew members to mitigate further spread.

Additionally, stool samples have been collected from symptomatic passengers to confirm that the causative agent was indeed norovirus.

Next, the Grand-class ship and cruise terminal will be thoroughly disinfected on May 11 before a new round of guests are welcomed onboard in Port Canaveral.

Passengers booked on the May 11 departure should keep an eye out for communication about potential changes to their embarkation. Sometimes the cruise line will ask guests to delay their arrival at the port when deep cleans are required.

However, there are no expected itinerary changes for the upcoming 6-night Eastern Caribbean sailing as a result of the outbreak or related cleaning.

Nassau is the first port call on the next itinerary, and the Bahamas’ capital is only around 180 nautical miles away from Port Canaveral.

Should Cruisers Worry About Outbreaks?

Between news of Caribbean Princess’s outbreak and the hantavirus crisis unfolding onboard MV Hondius in the Atlantic Ocean, it’s only natural for some cruisers to feel nervous about getting sick during their cruise.

However, the number of outbreaks for ships under the VSP’s jurisdiction is actually trending down compared to last year, and CDC officials have continued to affirm that the hantavirus poses a very low risk to the general public.

In terms of gastrointestinal outbreaks, 17 outbreaks were confirmed by the VSP by mid-May of 2025. So far, only four have been reported in 2026, which is a 76.5% decrease in outbreaks when comparing year-over-year.

Outbreaks on ships outside of the VSP’s jurisdiction are not reflected in these numbers, but it’s still encouraging to see the pattern trending downward.

For context, the VSP only oversees ships that have 13 or more passengers, are operating international itineraries, and call at US ports.

MSC Cruises Strong Demand in Texas Turns Heads in Galveston

Key Aspects:

  • MSC Cruises says demand for MSC Seascape has been strong during its first six months sailing from Galveston.
  • The cruise line customized dining and entertainment aboard the ship to appeal to Texas passengers.
  • Galveston officials say the new Cruise Terminal 16 is helping fuel growth at the port.

MSC Cruises says its move into Galveston is gaining traction six months after the cruise line launched its first year-round sailings from Texas.

The cruise line marked the milestone on May 7, 2026, following the November 2025 arrival of MSC Seascape and the opening of Cruise Terminal 16 at the Port of Galveston, a major expansion project designed to handle larger ships and growing passenger traffic.

MSC Cruises said passengers have responded strongly to changes made specifically for the Texas market as the line works to establish itself in one of the U.S.’s fastest-growing cruise regions.

“In our first six months of operations, we are seeing strong momentum and clear validation of our approach to the Galveston market,” said Lynn Torrent, president of MSC Cruises North America.

Torrent said guests are responding well to the Texas-inspired dining, entertainment, and MSC Yacht Club experience aboard the 5,877-passenger MSC Seascape.

The 170,412-gross-ton ship sails 7-night Western Caribbean itineraries every Sunday from Galveston with stops in Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico, and Roatan, Honduras.

To appeal to Texas passengers, MSC Cruises adjusted several onboard offerings aboard MSC Seascape, including Southern- and Gulf Coast-inspired menu items, regional cocktails, and entertainment such as country music performances, line dancing lessons, and a “Big Texas Sailaway Party.”

Galveston city officials have also said the cruise line has had a positive impact, with Galveston Wharves Port Director and CEO Rodger Rees singing MSC Cruises’ praises.

“As we mark this six-month milestone, we couldn’t be more pleased with MSC Cruises and our new terminal. This world-renowned cruise line has proven to be a great port partner every step of the way,” he said.

Galveston’s Growth

MSC Cruises entered Galveston at a time when the Texas cruise market is rapidly expanding.

The Port of Galveston is the fourth busiest cruise port in the United States outside of Florida, with cruise lines continuing to add newer ships, bigger terminals, and more year-round sailings.

Port officials forecast nearly 2 million cruise passengers – roughly 3.9 to 4 million passenger movements – in 2026 across almost 450 sailings.

Passenger traffic has climbed steadily in recent years, with Galveston handling roughly 3 million passenger movements in 2023, 3.4 million in 2024, and about 3.6 million in 2025.

Projections by Galveston Wharves say passenger movements could exceed 9 million annually by 2045, supported by additional terminals, parking garages, and expanded port infrastructure.

MSC Cruises’ Terminal 16 was a major piece of that expansion. Opening in late 2025 as Galveston’s fourth cruise terminal, the $156-million facility serves both MSC Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line.

According to Galveston Wharves, the terminal contributes more than $138 million annually to the regional economy and supports more than 1,000 jobs.

MSC Has Its Sights on Expanding Grand Turk for Bigger Cruise Traffic

0

Key Aspects:

  • Turks and Caicos may be receiving a multi-million-dollar port redevelopment on Grand Turk.
  • The dual cruise and cargo ship project would allow for larger cruise ships to call on the island.
  • The proposal is in early stages and is tied to a cruise port project involving the MSC Group.

Cruise passengers sailing to Grand Turk could soon find a much busier cruise destination waiting for them.

Officials in the Turks and Caicos Islands have revealed plans for a major redevelopment of Grand Turk’s port that would significantly expand the island’s cruise capacity, allowing it to accommodate at least two large cruise ships simultaneously.

The announcement was made during a budget debate by Premier Charles Washington Misick on April 23, 2026, who described the project as a major step forward for the island’s cruise infrastructure and broader economy.

“We are now at the Memorandum of Understanding stage on a major initiative that will see the upgrade and redevelopment of the existing commercial port in Grand Turk into a modern, dual-purpose facility, serving both cruise passengers and commercial cargo,” Misick told local media.

He said the initiative would be more than an upgrade and a “significant step change in our maritime infrastructure and, by extension, in our economic capacity.”

Under the proposal, Turks and Caicos Port Investments Ltd. would manage the development and future operations of the port.

Plans include a larger pier, upgraded docking areas for cruise ships, stronger port structures, and expanded facilities designed to handle more cruise traffic.

Officials said the goal is to make Grand Turk more competitive as cruise lines continue deploying larger ships throughout the Caribbean. The redevelopment is also tied to a larger $177.3 million cruise port project involving MSC Group, parent to MSC Cruises, CTL Maritime, and ITM Group.

Officials said the plan would convert the existing adjacent cargo pier area into a larger cruise terminal with new tourism and commercial development across its 63 acres.

Growing in Popularity

The push to expand Grand Turk’s cruise port comes as passenger numbers to the island continue climbing at a record pace.

Turks and Caicos surpassed one million cruise passengers in 2025, highlighting how quickly Grand Turk has grown into one of the Caribbean’s busiest cruise destinations since it first opened the Grand Turk Cruise Center in 2006.

By November 2025 alone, Grand Turk had recorded 1.1 million cruise passenger arrivals since January 1, 2025. It was a 4 percent increase over the same period in 2024.

Tourism officials have also pointed to a sharp increase in ship calls. During the first quarter of 2025 alone, Grand Turk received more than 410,000 cruise passengers, representing a 54 percent increase year over year.

The current Grand Turk Cruise Center, located on the southern end of the island, was originally designed to accommodate about 7,000 passengers per day, with Carnival Cruise Line the first to sail to the island.

The proposed redevelopment would allow Grand Turk to handle at least two large cruise ships simultaneously, possibly doubling the passenger capacity.

Government leaders also estimate the project could create more than 1,000 direct jobs and another 1,700 indirect jobs, with much of the activity centered around the cruise sector.

Enrollment Request Reignites Backlash Over Carnival’s New Rewards Program

Key Aspects:

  • Carnival informed cruise guests that they would need to enroll in the new Rewards Program in order to maintain their current VIFP status.
  • This action has reignited the controversy behind the new program.
  • Largely because of the negative response, the program’s launch was delayed to September 1, 2026.

It’s no secret that Carnival’s new Rewards Program has been met with a sea of controversy, particularly over the removal of the automatic lifetime loyalty status.

After being told that guests’ existing VIFP statuses would automatically be carried over to the new program, Carnival informed cruisers that they would now need to opt in to maintain their current status.

Though loyalty levels will reset every two years under the new program, guests will be able to keep their existing status through at least December 31, 2028.

The enrollment emails, which went out in early May, have reignited the outrage associated with the new loyalty program. Cruisers are once again debating if they should remain loyal to Carnival going forward.

“It took me 12 years to get platinum status. I took extra cruises that I wouldn’t typically have taken, just to try to get to platinum a little quicker. I even chose Carnival over NCL a few times to help me get that status,” one avid Cruiser posted on Reddit on May 5, 2026.

“I invested in Carnival, so they could invest in me as a loyal cruiser, over many years. They’ve now decided that years of loyalty mean nothing. So, goodbye Carnival, and just remember, this breakup is on you. Who else is moving on?” they continued.

For reference, Platinum is one step below the very top Diamond tier of the current VIFP loyalty program. The cruiser needed 75-199 points to reach this level, with guests earning one point for each day they sail under the retiring system.

Enrollment May Be the Final Straw

If guests are planning to opt in to the new Rewards Program, the process takes less than a minute and must be completed by August 31, 2026.

Guests simply have to click the link in their personalized emails to accept the new Rewards Program’s terms and conditions. But for some, this action is still a step too far.

“I was told that it automatically reverts over and there is nothing we need to do,” one confused cruiser said on Cruise Hive’s Facebook page.

“I am Platinum and very RELUCTANT to opt in, because I lose everything under new program because I will not / am not spending money Carnival requires to maintain Platinum level!!!,” one avid cruiser lamented.

“Not enrolling in anything! Take my last booked cruise with them on the Venezia this Sunday, then no more Carnival. Not spending $34k every two years to maintain Diamond. All the members that think their “grandfathering in” is going to be permanent are mistaken,” another exclaimed.

Despite her outrage, this second guest may be slightly misinformed. In response to the backlash, Carnival made the Diamond status permanent for any guests who reach this level by May 31, 2026.

For all other levels, the Carnival Rewards Program status will reset every two years. Statuses will be earned and obtained by earning stars, which are based on dollars spent and gambling in the onboard casinos.

When Does the Rewards Program Kick In?

The forced enrollment is just one more offense for angry cruisers who have not liked the new Rewards Program from the very beginning.

However, the change is necessary as so many cruisers have reached elite VIFP statuses that Carnival is repeatedly unable to provide the special loyalty perks that these vacationers have earned.

“If every one has platinum status, no one does. I don’t understand why people don’t get that. They had to change it. It got to a point where some cruises were mostly platinum and diamond members. They could not provide the perks for those cruises,” one cruise fan said in Carnival’s defense.

The new program was pushed back from June 1, 2026, to make tweaks to the program and respond to some of the criticism. It will go into effect on September 1, 2026, whether guests like it or not.

Two Americans From Hantavirus Cruise Ship Now Under Health Monitoring in the US

Key Aspects:

  • Two US citizens recently returned home from sailing onboard MV Hondius, the cruise ship that has been hit with the deadly hantavirus outbreak.
  • While they are not showing any symptoms, officials are monitoring the Georgia residents closely.
  • The cruise ship itself has now completed three medical evacuations and is bound for Spain’s Canary Islands.

The fallout of the hantavirus outbreak unfolding onboard Oceanwide Expeditions’ MV Hondius, which has already resulted in three deaths, has potentially now made its way to the US.

The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) is actively monitoring two Georgia residents who recently disembarked from the small expedition vessel.

As of the time of this publication, the recent guests are not showing any symptoms of the often deadly infection. They are following the current guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

“The individuals are currently in good health and show no signs of infection,” a Georgia DPH spokesperson told WTOC, a local news outlet.

The news comes shortly after another recent passenger of the 170-guest ship tested positive for the virus in Sweden.

“Swiss authorities have confirmed a case of #hantavirus identified in a passenger from the MV Hondius cruise ship,” the World Health Organization (WHO) posted on X.

“He had responded to an email from the ship’s operator informing the passengers of the health event, and presented himself to a hospital in Zurich, Switzerland, and is receiving care,” WHO continued.

As of May 6, there are a total of eight cases related to the cruise ship outbreak, three of which have been confirmed as hantavirus by laboratory testing.

American Public Should Not Panic

The cruise ship outbreak is extremely rare, and according to the CDC’s archival data, it is the first hantavirus outbreak to occur on a ship in over three decades.

Making the situation even more unusual is that WHO confirmed the virus is the Andes-type, which is the only strain to ever be documented as spreading from human-to-human. Usually, the virus is contracted through exposure to rodents.

Contact tracing and an investigation into the origin of the outbreak is still underway, but health officials do not want the general public to worry at this time. Human-to-human transmission is still very rare and only happens in situations with extremely close contact.

“We understand that people are concerned and looking for information and that is why we provided clear, written health guidance to the American passengers through the State Department. The safety and health of the affected American travelers is our number one goal,” the CDC posted on X.

“Hantavirus is not spread by people without symptoms, transmission requires close contact, and the risk to the American public is very low,” the post continued.

The CDC, along with WHO and other health organizations around the world, will continue to monitor the status of the outbreak and provide updates as more information becomes available.

Additionally, the CDC is preparing to safely bring home the approximately 17 Americans who are still onboard MV Hondius.

Cruise Ship Heads Toward Canary Islands

On May 5, Cruise Hive reported that Spain would be accepting the 5,590-gross ton vessel after it was not permitted to disembark in Africa’s Cape Verde.

After completing medical evacuations for three passengers who were either symptomatic or in close contact with an individual who died from the virus, the small ship is now bound for the Canary Islands.

“We can confirm that the three individuals previously indicated as awaiting medical transfer have been successfully disembarked from m/v Hondius and are now en route via medicalized aircraft to locations able to provide specialized care and appropriate medical screening,” Oceanwide Expeditions said in an update on May 6.

“At this stage, the planned onward destination for m/v Hondius is the Canary Islands. Oceanwide Expeditions remains in close and continual discussion with relevant authorities regarding the exact point of arrival, quarantine and screening procedures for all guests, and a precise timeline,” the update added.

As of the time of writing, tracking data shows the vessel cruising at speeds of 12 knots off the coast of Boa Vista, an island in Cape Verde.

The remaining passengers and crew members onboard have been instructed to monitor themselves closely for possible symptoms, and have been encouraged to isolate in their cabins and to practice social distancing.

Two infectious disease physicians, who were flown to the ship from the Netherlands in coordination with the Dutch Institute for Public Health and Environment, joined the ship on May 6 and will remain onboard throughout the journey to the Canary Islands.

Royal Caribbean Confirms Temporary Bahamas Alcohol Ban Will Impact CocoCay

Key Aspects:

  • Alcohol sales will be forbidden during the Bahamas’ general election on May 12.
  • Royal Caribbean has confirmed that alcohol will not be provided at Perfect Day at CocoCay on this date.
  • The ban should also impact Royal Caribbean Beach Club Paradise Island in Nassau.

As Cruise Hive previously reported, alcohol sales will be forbidden in the Bahamas on May 12, 2026, which is the date of the swiftly approaching general election.

This rule is enforced at all Bahamian destinations, including cruise line-owned private islands, to ensure that the polling process is conducted in an orderly fashion and that voting is taken seriously.

While some held onto false hope that Perfect Day at CocoCay might still be able to sell alcoholic beverages since it’s a private island just for cruise guests, Royal Caribbean has confirmed that this will definitely not be the case.

Both the 5,734-guest Wonder of the Seas and the 5,606-guest Oasis of the Seas will be visiting the private destination on election day.

“There is a public notice issued by the Ministry of National Security in The Bahamas that prohibits the distribution of alcohol during national elections,” Royal Caribbean wrote in a letter to impacted guests.

“We’ve explored whether any exceptions could be made; however, this restriction applies nationwide throughout the Bahamas. As a result, alcoholic beverages will not be served at Perfect Day at CocoCay during your visit,” the cruise line continued.

Royal Caribbean Bahamas Election Letter
Royal Caribbean Bahamas Election Letter

For reference, the private destination is located in the Bahamas in the Berry Islands, roughly 55 miles north of Nassau.

More than 750 Royal Caribbean staff members live on the island, many of whom are locals from the Bahamas who would be eligible to participate in the election.

Impact on Royal Beach Club, Paradise Island

As was the case during advanced polling on April 30, Royal Caribbean will likely also be prohibited from serving alcohol at Royal Beach Club Paradise Island.

The private resort only recently opened in Nassau in December of 2025. Admission starts at $129.99 for adults, with many of the packages including alcoholic refreshments as the price goes up.

On April 30, the cruise line actually came under fire for not providing advance notice of the temporary alcohol ban and was forced to refund hundreds, if not thousands, of guests who visited the beach club.

Royal Caribbean's Nassau Beach Club
Royal Caribbean’s Nassau Beach Club

The cruise line claimed that it did not know about the restriction until the day of the visit. But either way, note that the cruise line is not repeating this blunder by giving guests more than a week of notice about the temporary alcohol ban on May 12.

“Earlier today, we were informed of a public notice issued by the Ministry of National Security in The Bahamas that prohibits the distribution of alcohol during national elections where advanced polling stations are located,” Royal Caribbean wrote in a letter on April 30.

“Taking this into account, and to better support your experience, you will receive a 100% refund for your Royal Beach Club experience in the form of Onboard Credit,” the cruise line continued.

For reference, the 5,668-guest Utopia of the Seas will be visiting Nassau on election day as part of a 4-night sailing to the Bahamas.

Alcohol is Still Available Onboard

Before cruisers panic, it’s important to keep in mind that the temporary ban will only last for one day and that alcoholic beverages will be available onboard Royal Caribbean ships the entire time.

This is because the Bahamas’ restriction only applied to land-based establishments, such as bars, restaurants, and stores on shore.

“While these services will be impacted ashore, guests may continue to enjoy alcoholic beverages onboard, and our teams will be there to ensure you continue to enjoy a fun and relaxing experience,” Royal Caribbean confirmed.

Other than not serving alcohol, Royal Caribbean’s Bahamian destinations will operate normally. All other amenities, entertainment, and food will be provided as normal, including non-alcoholic beverages.

Passengers Watch as Disney Cruise Ship Crew Members Arrested in San Diego

Key Aspects:

  • Several Disney Magic crew members were arrested in San Diego by US Customs and Border Protection agents at the end of April.
  • No official charges or the identities of those arrested have been released or confirmed.
  • The incident was filmed by a guest on Disney Magic who recognized her head waiter as one being arrested.

Several crew members from Disney Magic were arrested by US Customs and Border Protection agents at the end of April while the ship was at her temporary San Diego homeport, but why?

10 News confirmed the arrests, which had been filmed by Dharmi Mehta. Mehta had been a guest onboard Disney Magic and believed one of the crew members arrested was the head waiter who had served her and her family during the 4-night sailing to Catalina and Ensenada.

Mehta recognized the server as he was still in his crew uniform. He and the others being detained did not appear to have any personal belongings with them as they were escorted to a white, unmarked van. The crew members were in restraints at the time.

“He was full in uniform, which was in a blazer, tie. Some of the other employees were still in their chef’s uniforms with their name tags on it,” Mehta said.

Less than an hour earlier, Mehta said the server had been completing their breakfast service.

The arrests occurred on Thursday, April 23, 2026. An immigration rights political group, Union del Barrio, noted that roughly 10 Disney Cruise Line employees were arrested on that date, followed by several crew members from Holland America Line’s Zandaam several days later.

No names or nationalities of the impacted crew members have been released. Disney Magic is home to roughly 950 crew members.

Union del Barrio and other local community groups held a press conference on the pier on Tuesday, May 5, to address their concerns. At the time, Disney Magic was no longer in port, as the 83,350-gross-ton ship had departed on April 27 to make her way to Vancouver to begin her season in Alaska.

Cruise Hive reported recently that Disney Cruise Line has now made a strong agreement with the Port of San Diego, pledging to roughly double sailings from the southern California homeport at least through 2031. Both Disney Magic and Disney Wonder will continue offering seasonal departures from San Diego.

Why Were the Crew Members Arrested?

There has been no official release or statement about why the Disney Cruise Line employees were arrested and detained. Local police departments were not involved in the arrests, and neither were port authorities.

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) does have full jurisdiction over ships docked in US ports, so it was not unauthorized for CBP agents to make the arrests.

Charges could vary from visa or paperwork issues to criminal activities such as theft or assault. In September 2025, two crew members from the new Disney Adventure were arrested during a refueling stop in Germany due to outstanding warrants concerning drunk driving and fraud charges.

Cruise lines will cooperate with state, federal, and local authorities, though they are not obligated to comment publicly on any pending charges or potential legal action.

Meanwhile, Union del Barrio is demanding that cruise lines take more steps to protect their employees and that there be greater transparency from federal agencies when such incidents occur.

The group describes itself as “an independent political organization” and has used terms such as “abduction” to describe the actions of CBP.

Margaritaville at Sea Asks Passengers to Arrive an Hour Later for Upcoming Cruise

Key Aspects:

  • Passengers sailing on Margaritaville at Sea Paradise on May 7, 2026, are being asked to arrive later for embarkation.
  • Embarkation times have been pushed back by one hour.
  • Passengers can find their new schedules in the Cruise Control portal.

Passengers heading to the Port of Palm Beach in Florida for a quick Bahamas getaway this week will need to adjust their timing before they step on board.

Margaritaville at Sea is rolling out a revised boarding plan for its May 7 sailing of Margaritaville at Sea Paradise, warning guests in advance that embarkation will be delayed and arrival times have been pushed back.

“At this time, we are anticipating a delayed embarkation for your May 7, 2026, sailing,” the notice reads. “For your comfort and to minimize your wait times at the terminal, we request that you arrive 1 hour after the scheduled arrival time currently printed on your Boarding Pass.”

The 4-night roundtrip cruise is scheduled to depart Palm Beach at 3:30 p.m., with stops in Freeport on May 9 and Nassau on May 10 before returning on May 11.

Under the updated plan, passengers are being instructed to arrive one hour later than the original time listed on their boarding pass. An 11:00 a.m. arrival window, for example, is now a 12:00 p.m. arrival.

Updated boarding times will appear in Margaritaville at Sea’s Cruise Control portal, and the cruise line is asking all guests to double-check this portal to see their updated boarding times before heading to the port.

The advisory does not specify the cause of the delay or if the delayed embarkation will also push back the cruise’s departure time.

The 52,926-gross-ton vessel is currently on a 4-night Cozumel Express sailing that is scheduled to return to Palm Beach at 8:00 a.m. on May 7.

Palm Beach Boarding

The Port of Palm Beach has long been active, but mostly for cargo and ferry service. Its role as a cruise homeport dates back to 2016 when Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line, now Margaritaville at Sea, began sailing short itineraries from the port.

Since then, it has remained a one-ship operation built around quick turnarounds and shorter cruises.

The 1,316-passenger Margaritaville at Sea Paradise, originally built as Costa Classica for Costa Cruises, has been sailing from Palm Beach for years and was rebranded in 2022 when Margaritaville at Sea launched.

The vessel recently completed a 2-week dry dock in Freeport in January 2026 that included upgrades and refreshes to its 658 staterooms, dining venues, and the Euphoria Lounge. Following the multimillion-dollar refurbishment, Margaritaville at Sea Paradise returned to service in Palm Beach and resumed back-to-back sailings.

This is not the first time the cruise line has pushed back embarkation timing at the Port of Palm Beach. As a small terminal, amenities are limited, with no dedicated lounges or indoor waiting spaces for early arrivals. Because of that setup, arrival windows are strictly enforced to prevent crowding.

Guests who arrive before their assigned boarding time will be required to enter through the Standby Check-in Lane and may experience delays before being allowed to board.

For those who do arrive early, there are a few casual dining options within a short distance of the port, including a restaurant about a five-minute walk away.
