Privacy Policy
Cruise Hive is available as a website and as a mobile app. The mobile app does not show ads or use advertising/tracking technologies — its data practices are described in the section immediately below. The advertising, cookie and website practices that follow apply to the cruisehive.com website.
Cruise Hive Mobile App — Privacy
This section applies specifically to the Cruise Hive mobile app.
The Cruise Hive app shows ads in the News section (the news feed and inside news articles). Gold members do not see any ads. How advertising works, and the data involved, is described in the Advertising section below.
Information we collect in the app
When you create an account in the app, we collect:
• Your email address
• Your first name
We sign you in using a one-time code sent to your email, so we do not store an app password. We also store the cruise planning information you choose to add in the app — such as your saved cruises, itineraries, packing lists, checklists and tool results — so we can save your progress and sync it across your devices.
How we use this information
• To create and maintain your account
• To save your cruises and planning tools and keep them in sync
• To send optional reminders and cruise news notifications (only if you turn them on)
• To send optional marketing emails (only if you opt in)
• To show ads in the News section (for Blue and Silver members)
Push notifications
Notifications in the app are optional. You can turn them on or off at any time from the Account screen in the app, or in your device’s Settings. We use OneSignal to deliver notifications on our behalf. The app works fully without notifications enabled.
Marketing emails
If you opt in when signing up, we use Mailchimp to send you cruise news and deals by email. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, and opting out does not affect your use of the app.
Advertising
The app shows ads in the News section for Blue (free) and Silver members. Gold members do not see any ads.
We use Google AdMob to show these ads. To do this, Google may collect and process:
• A device advertising identifier
• App usage and interaction data
• Approximate (coarse) location
• Device and diagnostic information
This data is shared with Google and its advertising partners. It may be used to show you personalised ads and to measure how ads perform, including across other apps and websites. Under Apple’s rules this is considered “tracking”.
Your choices:
• When you first open the app, iOS asks whether to allow tracking. If you choose “Ask App Not to Track”, you will still see ads, but they will not be personalised using your advertising identifier.
• If you are in the EU, UK or Switzerland, you will also see a consent screen where you can accept or refuse the use of your data for personalised ads.
• Upgrading to Gold removes all ads in the app.
You can read more on Google’s “How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services” page.
Cruise booking
The app lets you search for cruises and then opens our booking partner’s website (booking.cruisehive.com) to view results and book. Any booking takes place on that external website, not inside the app. We do not collect or process payment details in the app.
Service providers we share data with
We use the following trusted providers to operate the app. They process data on our behalf and are required to protect it to at least the same standard set out in this policy:
• Supabase — secure storage of your account and planning data
• OneSignal — delivery of push notifications (only if enabled)
• Mailchimp — delivery of marketing emails (only if you opt in)
• Google AdMob — showing ads in the app (for Blue and Silver members)
Retaining and deleting your data
You can delete your account at any time from the Account screen in the app. When you do, we permanently delete your account and all of the planning data associated with it, and we remove the account itself, including your email address, from our active systems straight away. Copies held in our routine, encrypted backups are automatically overwritten within 30 days.
If you have any questions or wish to request access to or deletion of your data, contact us here.
