Royal Caribbean Alters Cruise Plans to Improve Rare Solar Eclipse Experience

Key Aspects:

  • Royal Caribbean has adjusted the route and itinerary to maximize eclipse viewing for Liberty of the Seas.
  • The impacted departure is the ship’s solar eclipse cruise leaving Southampton on August 7, 2026.
  • Lisbon is now cancelled and La Coruna and Vigo adjusted, with Le Havre added to the itinerary.

Setting sail to view the August 12, 2026, total solar eclipse will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Royal Caribbean is taking steps to ensure the up to 4,960 guests aboard Liberty of the Seas have the best eclipse viewing that day with an itinerary change to maximize their astronomical adventure while still maintaining exceptional ports of call.

This necessitates an itinerary change and some port adjustments, and the cruise line has reached out to booked guests with the updated schedule.

“To give everyone the best possible total solar eclipse viewing experience during our sailing, we’ll adjust our route after our visit to Gijon, Spain,” the notification confirmed.

Liberty of the Seas will no longer be calling on Lisbon, Portugal, but will instead head directly for Vigo so the 155,900-gross-ton ship is in the best viewing path possible. Following the eclipse, the ship will visit La Coruna, and there will also be a port visit to Le Havre (Paris) before debarkation in Southampton.

The solar eclipse 9-night cruise itinerary is now as follows:

  • Friday, August 7 – Depart Southampton at 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 8 – Day at sea
  • Sunday, August 9 – Bilbao, Spain from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Monday, August 10 – Gijon, Spain from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Tuesday, August 11 – Vigo, Spain from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (previously La Coruna)
  • Wednesday, August 12 – Solar Eclipse day at sea
  • Thursday, August 13 – La Coruna, Spain from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. (previously Lisbon)
  • Friday, August 14 – Day at sea (previously Vigo)
  • Saturday, August 15 – Paris, France from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. (previously day at sea)
  • Sunday, August 16 – Arrive Southampton at 5:30 a.m.

While some guests will undoubtedly be disappointed that the visit to Lisbon is no longer possible, Royal Caribbean has attempted to preserve the quality of port time as well as offer the best possible eclipse viewing.

Shore tours for Lisbon that have been booked through the cruise line will be automatically cancelled and refunded back to the original form of payment. Similarly, tours for Vigo and La Coruna will be adjusted to the new port visit days and times.

Guests Excited About Change

Many times, when a cruise itinerary is changed, guests are upset at the adjustment and how it may impact their vacation plans. In this case, however, guests on Reddit are happy with the change and the better eclipse viewing it will provide.

“We originally were not going to see 100% totality, but with this email, I think they listened to us?!” the original poster exclaimed. “If so, super grateful for the change.”

Previously, the ship’s route was likely to stay within the 94-98% totality zone for eclipse viewing. While that may seem adequate, this type of event is hard to duplicate.

According to TimeandDate, the next total solar eclipse will not be until August 2, 2027, but that totality path is mostly over northern Africa and will not offer as many at-sea viewing opportunities.

“I’m just so glad they listened! I’m fine with the changes, the whole point I booked this cruise was to see the eclipse in totality!” another guest commented.

While the new sailing path and port schedule will provide better eclipse viewing, guests should always remember that Mother Nature has the final say on just how good the viewing may be and all eclipse sightings will be weather-dependent.

Carnival Cruise Line Ends Third-Party Gifts After Accidental Blunder

Key Aspects:

  • John Heald accidentally sent a bottle of champagne to two children on a recent Carnival cruise.
  • The error happened because of an incorrect stateroom number for a third-party gift request.
  • Third-party requests for “something special” gifts will no longer be accommodated on any Carnival ship.

Carnival Cruise Line tries to accommodate all types of requests for celebrations and a little “something special” to help make guests’ cruise vacations even more memorable.

An inadvertent error with a recent request, however, now means there will be no more third-party gifts.

John Heald, Carnival Cruise Line’s brand ambassador, handles such requests. Hundreds of times each week, guests reach out to him about special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, beating cancer, job promotions, graduations, and much more.

Heald always tries to offer something to celebrate the request. It might be a plate of cookies, a prize medallion, a bottle of champagne, or even (albeit rarely) the coveted ship-on-a-stick.

One recent request, however, went badly wrong. Heald discussed the incident in a video on his Facebook page, sharing his chagrin with his more than 665,000 followers.

“One of the fun parts of my job is to be able to help people celebrate. People write to me and say it’s my birthday, it’s an anniversary or a honeymoon or whatever, divorce, I’m celebrating and I always do my best to send a little something,” he explained.

He noted that he does have a budget on every ship and can’t therefore send gifts to large parties or accommodate every request. He does try to do as much as he can, however, especially in exceptional circumstances.

The recent incident involved a frequent Carnival guest’s best friends, who were celebrating retirement from the police force. To be clear, the individual making the request was not sailing themselves, but wanted to surprise their friend.

“I sent a bottle of champagne and a medallion,” Heald confirmed.

After making the arrangements for the delivery, Heald then had a trip to the “mothership” in Miami and was busy with corporate meetings, ship visits, and meeting guests in person for several days. Upon returning home and back to guest communications, he found a very angry email.

“The person who had received the gift is accusing me of lots of things, very angry, calling me all sorts of names, because I sent a bottle of champagne to his two grandchildren,” Heald said.

How Did This Happen?

Whoops! It turns out, the individual making the gift request gave Heald the wrong stateroom number and the bottle of champagne and medallion went to the children’s stateroom instead of the now-retired police officer.

“I had sent a bottle of champagne to two children,” Heald said. “They had no idea who I was, they just went to Guest Services.”

Heald quickly apologized to the guest and noted that he completely understood why they were so upset. He even admitted that if this happened to his daughter, he’d be equally angry.

The result is that there will be no more third-party gifts sent to Carnival guests. Heald will continue to send gifts whenever possible to guests who are actually sailing, but will no longer accommodate requests to surprise someone else.

“I’m not going to put myself or my colleague Jacinta into that particular nest of vipers,” he said.

That new policy is holding firm, as both Heald and Jacinta are now refusing third-party gift requests.

“We are very happy and glad to be able to send something to people actually cruising on the ship but third-party requests are not something that we are permitted to do anymore,” he responded to a more recent request. “Thank you for your understanding.”

Carnival Legend Adjusts Billing Protocol Mid-Voyage

Key Aspects:

  • Usually, Carnival guests settle their accounts once on the final day of their sailing before disembarking.
  • However, Carnival Legend’s current guests will settle their accounts twice.
  • The first charge will come through on February 23, with the final settling occurring on the morning of debarkation.

Carnival Legend is doing things a little differently for settling the Sail & Sign accounts of its current passengers.

Instead of settling the onboard accounts at the end of the current 10-night Eastern Caribbean sailing, as is the norm, the cruise line has decided to resolve balances early and on disembarkation day.

This means that the payment methods guests have linked to their reservations will be charged twice to pay their outstanding balances.

Read Also: Carnival Onboard Credit: Ways to Use It

“We are writing to let you know that we will be settling onboard credit card charges in two segments for this voyage,” Carnival notified the up to 2,134 guests onboard.

Guests can expect to see their cards charged for the first time on February 23, 2026, and once again when the Spirit-class ship returns to its homeport of Galveston, Texas, for debarkation on February 26.

How Settling Accounts Normally Works

During a typical sailing, Carnival guests settle their accounts once at the end of their voyage.

On the final night of the sailing or on the morning of disembarkation, a printed statement detailing all purchases made onboard using Sail & Sign accounts should be delivered to guest staterooms.

Carnival Hub App
Carnival Hub App

The final folios can also be accessed at Sail & Sign kiosks, on the HUB App, or by visiting guest services.

If guests agree with their final statement, there is no action that needs to be taken. Carnival will simply charge the credit card on file and guests can go on their way.

If something on your final bill is wrong, it’s important to speak to guest services prior to disembarking. If a passenger is owed a refund, it will be sent via check to the address on file within one week of the sailing’s conclusion.

What if Guests Disagree With Charges?

If passengers believe that they have been billed incorrectly, they will want to head to guest services to discuss their accounts as soon as possible. Once Carnival settles their bill, it can no longer be adjusted.

“Once the first settlement has been processed, we will not be able to add or remove persons from accounts or change payments on the settled account,” the cruise line advised.

“For the second portion, if needed, you will be able to change payment methods only,” the letter continued.

Cruise Hive has confirmed that guests can switch the credit card associated with their Sail & Sign accounts mid-voyage, but any holds that were on the previous card will remain in place for potentially several days after the sailing concludes.

Typically, the cruise line will automatically put an up to $200 bank hold in place on embarkation day for incidentals and to ensure the card is valid during the sailing.

Why Make the Change?

Carnival Cruise Line has not confirmed why they are settling accounts twice for this specific sailing, or if this will be a permanent change going forward.

Some passengers theorized that the family-friendly cruise line might be testing a new process to try to avoid long lines of guests with account questions at the guest services desk on the night before and morning of debarkation.

“Maybe trying to curb the massive line the night before debarkation of people removing gratuities,” one cruise fan theorized.

Others thought it might be related to doing a mid-voyage credit check to ensure guests’ payment methods could still cover their growing onboard balances.

“My guess is they are having many declined charges due to insufficient funds. So they are breaking the payments up into segments so they can investigate while you’re still on the ship,” another cruiser guessed.

It’s also possible that the billing process has had to adjust in the wake of widespread IT issues impacting various onboard systems, which Cruise Hive reported on earlier in February.

But ultimately, guests are spending the same amount of money whether their accounts are settled once or twice. With this in mind, it may not matter too much if they pay all at once or in two installments.

Celebrity Infinity to Resume Cruising Following Technical Issues

Key Aspects:

  • Celebrity Infinity’s next sailing, which will embark in Athens on February 27, will go ahead as planned.
  • The ship had been suffering from technical difficulties that shortened one sailing and led to another being cancelled entirely.
  • Per the Hellenic Coast Guard, the now-resolved issue affected the electrical distribution panels.

Celebrity Infinity is back in business! After ending one cruise early and cancelling another due to technical problems, the Celebrity Cruises’ ship is ready to resume service.

Cruise Hive has obtained an email that was sent to the up to 2,170 guests booked on the upcoming February 27, 2026, departure confirming that their sailing would be able to go ahead as planned.

“We are looking forward to welcoming you aboard Celebrity Infinity for your upcoming February 27, 2026 sailing,” the letter begins.

“Our team is preparing an unforgettable vacation experience for you, and we’re happy to confirm that your sailing will proceed as planned,” Celebrity Cruises wrote.

Celebrity Infinity Letter

The first sailing back, which will be based out of Piraeus-Athens, Greece, will be a 10-night voyage to destinations throughout Greece and Turkey. The itinerary calls for stops in Nafplio, Heraklion, Rhodes Island, Kavala, Thessaloniki, and Kusadasi.

What Went Wrong?

At approximately 3 a.m. on February 15, the 90,940-gross ton vessel suddenly lost power while the ship was approaching Athens.

As Cruise Hive learned from guests who were onboard at the time, there was no electricity, no air conditioning, no Wi-Fi, and no working toilets – which was starting to sound reminiscent of Carnival Triumph’s infamous “poop cruise” in 2013.

Thankfully, the Celebrity ship was already along the Greek coast and tug boats were able to bring her into port quickly.

Guests disembarked one day early and were reimbursed for last-minute hotel rooms, lunch on land, and transportation. Meanwhile, the subsequent February 16 sailing was cancelled to allow for repairs to be completed.

Celebrity Cruises never confirmed the cause of the technical issues, but a translated statement from the Hellenic Coast Guard suggested a malfunction in the electrical distribution panels was to blame.

“The Port Authorities of Piraeus and Keratsini were informed by the Joint Search and Rescue Coordination Center (EKSED) of the Hellenic Coast Guard-El.AKT, of the loss of control of a cruise ship… due to a malfunction in the electrical distribution panels,” the statement read.

Electrical distribution panels act as the central hubs for safely managing, monitoring, and distributing electrical power throughout the ship, so losing these is a big deal.

Should Future Guests be Worried?

Rest assured that safety is the top priority for Celebrity Cruises, and the Royal Caribbean-owned brand would not allow Celebrity Infinity to resume cruising if it was not safe to do so.

However, some are nervous considering the 2001-launched ship has had quite a few issues with power loss and propulsion over the years.

The most recent incident occurred less than a year ago in July 2025, in which a small fire resulted in a blackout. Celebrity Infinity was stuck in Kusadasi, Turkey, for several days as repairs were made.

Issues with propulsion and power have also been reported for the Millennium-class ship in 2025, 2018, 2012, 2010, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002, and 2001.

And while Celebrity Infinity is an older ship at 25-years-old, Celebrity Cruises does its best to maintain the vessel. The ship was in dry dock as recently as January 2-11, 2026, for routine technical work, maintenance, and certification work.

Disney Adventure Finds Its Hero: Robert Downey Jr. Named as Godparent

Key Aspects:

  • Robert Downey Jr. has officially been named as the godfather for the upcoming Disney Adventure.
  • The actor, who played Iron Man, has natural connections to the Marvel-themed entertainment onboard.
  • Disney Adventure’s maiden voyage is set for March 10, 2026.

One of the biggest stars in the world is stepping up to the plate to welcome one of the world’s most anticipated cruise ships.

On February 23, 2026, Disney Cruise Line officially named Robert Downey Jr. as the godparent to Disney Adventure, which will be the biggest ship to join the fleet and the first DCL ship built specifically for the Asian market.

Downey’s role as the backbone of the Marvel universe (in more ways than one) makes him a natural fit to welcome Disney’s newest addition.

“Our new ship continues Disney Cruise Line’s tradition of bringing great stories to life at sea, and we are honored that Robert Downey Jr., who has guided audiences through unforgettable Marvel stories, is the official godparent for the Disney Adventure,” said Josh D’Amaro, incoming Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company.

The Academy Award-winning actor also voiced his own excitement at being the one to christen the 208,000-gross ton new-build.

“It’s impossible to describe the majesty of the Adventure, and to be its godparent is an honor. As the largest ship in the Disney fleet, a gargantuan blessing must be bestowed … I’ll do my darndest,” Downey said.

You can watch the official reveal of Downey’s latest role below:

A Heroic Connection

Downey has been at the heart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for more than a decade and was named a Disney Legend in 2019.

Notably, Downey played Iron Man / Tony Stark for 11 years, starring in movies like “Avengers: Endgame,” which earned more than $2.79 billion at the global box office.

He will also be returning for Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in “Avengers: Doomsday,” where Downey will switch from playing the hero to portraying one of the franchise’s most iconic villains (Doctor Doom).

Speaking to the Marvel connection, the new 6,700-guest ship will debut the first-ever Marvel Landing, which will feature three adrenaline-filled attractions.

The first ride is the Ironcycle Test Run, which as Cruise Hive previously reported, is the longest roller coaster at sea and is inspired by “Iron Man.”

The next two attractions are Pym Quantum Racers, which is an homage to “Ant-Man and The Wasp” and Groot Galaxy Spin, which is based on “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

Guests will also be able to meet Marvel characters in the flesh during their sailing, with potential appearances from Iron Man.

When Will Disney Adventure Set Sail?

After being delayed by several months, Disney Adventure is almost ready to begin her career at sea.

The new ship was officially delivered to Disney in December 2025 and already made a brief appearance in Port Canaveral, Florida, during her journey to Asia.

As of the time of this publication, the new ship has made it to East Asia and is sailing in the direction of Tokyo, Japan. However, her homeport will be Singapore, where she will operate 3- to 4-night cruises to nowhere – starting with a 3-night maiden voyage scheduled for March 10, 2026.

The date of the christening has not been announced yet, but it will likely happen in the days just before the inaugural cruise.

Regal Princess Diverts to Save Four People Adrift in Makeshift Sailboat

Key Aspects:

  • Regal Princess rescued five refugees roughly 150 miles north of the Yucatan Peninsula on Monday, February 23.
  • The refugees’ makeshift boat was heavily rusted and taking on water when they were brought aboard the cruise ship.
  • Regal Princess is on a 7-night cruise with an overnight Cozumel visit and a call to Roatan, with no changes expected.

An uneventful day at sea quickly became a compassionate rescue incident for Regal Princess when a rowboat with a makeshift sail was spotted north of the Yucatan Peninsula. The occupants, believed to be four adult males, were bailing water when the cruise ship was able to take them aboard.

Regal Princess departed Galveston, Texas, on Sunday, February 22, and was enjoying a day at sea when the small boat was noticed. As is customary, the 142,700-gross-ton, Royal Class ship immediately reversed course to offer aid, as any cruise ship would do for those in distress.

The small boat, which appeared to be made of metal on a wooden frame and was showing significant rust, was able to come alongside the cruise ship. Even as the rescue got underway, the refugees were bailing out their boat, and what looked to be a sail made from a sheet, tarp, or canvas had collapsed.

According to satellite tracking that shows the ship’s route, the incident happened approximately 150 miles north-northeast of Progreso, Mexico.

This particular region between Cuba and Mexico is particularly common for refugee encounters. Cruise Hive has previously reported on numerous similar rescues, most recently just one week ago, with Carnival Celebration.

While there are no reports of injuries among those rescued and now aboard Regal Princess, they would have been provided with emergency medical care if necessary. Food and water is also provided to refugees.

Despite the misgivings of some travelers, refugees – no matter where or when they may be brought aboard a cruise ship – are not permitted free access to public areas. They are kept in crew areas with a security presence until they can be released to the appropriate authorities.

In this case, it is likely that Regal Princess will drop the refugees off with authorities in Mexico when she reaches her first port of call, which is scheduled to be an overnight stay in Cozumel from 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24 until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25.

In some incidents, refugees might be transferred to military or police boats if the cruise ship will not be able to drop them off appropriately, but each case is handled differently to be as efficient as possible.

Were They Fleeing Mexico?

At this time, there is no confirmation of where the refugees originated from, nor any information about why they set to sea in such a less-than-seaworthy craft. No identifying information has been released.

With the onset of increased violence in different areas of Mexico following the death of Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera over the weekend, some speculation is whether or not the refugees might be fleeing those conditions.

While the reasoning why the individuals left their home country is not available, their location when meeting Regal Princess so far north of the Yucatan peninsula makes it very unlikely that they only set sail in the last couple of days.

More than likely, they have been at sea for several days, long before the current tensions escalated.

Cruise Hive has already reported on various ships cancelling calls to Puerto Vallarta and mainland shore tours being cancelled from Cozumel. Other Mexican cruise ports continue to operate normally, however.

All cruise ships keep a constant lookout for any other vessels in distress, and aid is always offered without question. Regal Princess has continued on her 7-night sailing and there should not be any need for itinerary adjustments due to this successful rescue operation.

Carnival Cancels Mainland Mexico Excursions as a Precaution, Still Visits Cozumel

Key Aspects:

  • Carnival Cruise Line is cancelling shore tours to mainland Mexico for ships visiting Cozumel.
  • The port stops in Cozumel are not cancelled, only select shore tours, which will be refunded.
  • All guests are urged to remain vigilant when getting off their ships in any port of call.

With all eyes on the growing violence in Mexico following the death of cartel leader Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera over the weekend, Carnival Cruise Line is being cautious and keeping cruise guests closer to port in Cozumel.

While there are no ships cancelling visits to Cozumel at this time, cruise lines always monitor safety. Many guests with sailings to Mexico this week have reached out to John Heald, Carnival Cruise Line’s brand ambassador, with concerns.

“On the Jubilee right now and headed to Cozumel. Supposed to port this morning,” one guest asked. “But, I am hearing a shelter in place has been issued for Cozumel. Any updates for us?”

Carnival Jubilee is homeported from Galveston, Texas and is indeed enjoying a visit to Cozumel from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, February 23. The ship left the Lone Star State on Saturday and will also be visiting Costa Maya on Tuesday and Roatan on Thursday before heading back to Texas.

In Cozumel, however, guests might not be enjoying all the experiences they had hoped for, as the cruise line has stopped offering tours to the mainland.

“We continue to monitor the U.S. State Department’s travel advisory regarding the current situation in certain parts of Mexico’s mainland,” Heald confirmed. “While there are no specific threats in the state of Quintana Roo, we have made the decision to cancel tours going to the mainland.”

The types of tours that will now be cancelled include visits to the ancient Mayan ruins at Tulum, cenote tours, certain snorkeling excursions, and visits to Xplor Park for ziplining and exploring the underground river.

Tours that are now cancelled will be fully refunded. Guests can also consider alternative tour options that do not leave the island of Cozumel, as those will operate as planned.

Cruise Hive has previously reported on the violence impacting ships sailing to Puerto Vallarta, but this is the first related reaction on the Caribbean side of Mexico. Nevertheless, safety is always the first priority and cruise lines will take all steps necessary to ensure their guests can enjoy an amazing getaway without fear.

Heald has also confirmed that there are no cancellations for Carnival ships visiting Progreso or Cozumel in the next few days, but each situation is surely being evaluated individually.

Precautions Urged for Cruise Guests

Of course, guests should still be alert for any possible mishaps or dangers if they do get off their ships at any port in Mexico, or indeed, at any port of call, no matter where they set sail.

“We’re reminding guests to practice common-sense personal safety measures when they go ashore, as they would when traveling to any destination,” Heald said.

“We urge guests to be aware of their surroundings, follow instructions provided by local officials, stay within well-traveled tourist areas, and pay close attention to updates and announcements while ashore.”

These common-sense precautions are useful for any traveler. While no unexpected cartel-related violence has been reported in Quintana Roo, the Mexican state where Cozumel is located, isolated incidents are possible anywhere.

Cozumel is an island off the eastern coast of the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico, approximately 1,000 miles from Tapalpa in Jalisco, where the cartel leader was killed. While related violence could occur anywhere, the greatest unrest is currently in Jalisco state.

The US Embassy & Consulate in Mexico has issued a shelter in place order for Jalisco state, and the US Department of State has a general Level 2 “exercise increased caution” alert for all of Mexico, including Cozumel. In Jalisco, the alert is a Level 3 “reconsider travel” advisory.

MSC Cruises Is Piloting AI Robotic Dogs and Humanoids at Sea, an Industry First

Key Aspects:

  • MSC Cruises is introducing AI-powered robot dogs and humanoid robots on select ships in 2026.
  • Robots will appear in meet-and-greets, parades, and interactive workshops.
  • The robot program will begin with MSC Bellissima and MSC Magnifica.

Cruise ship entertainment is getting a high-tech upgrade with robot dogs and humanoid robots about to become part of the onboard lineup of MSC Cruises.

The cruise line announced it will introduce AI-powered robotic dogs on select ships in 2026, bringing interactive robotics and new tech-driven experiences to sea as part of a broader fleetwide entertainment refresh.

MSC Cruises announced that AI-powered robotic dogs will appear on select ships in 2026. The tail-wagging addition is part of a broader entertainment rollout that adds new technology-driven experiences, game shows, and refreshed live programming across the fleet.

The robotic dogs, developed by Unitree Robotics, will be accompanied by humanoid robots and are being positioned as a first-of-its-kind cruise ship attraction.

The technology is already being tested aboard MSC Bellissima in Asia and will also be introduced on MSC Magnifica during a segment of the 2026 World Cruise.

Guests will be able to attend meet-and-greets with the robots, watch robot-themed parades, and take part in interactive workshops designed to introduce children to robotics and emerging technologies.

The robots will also appear during select family programming, including dance sessions tied to onboard events.

“As a family-owned company, we know how important it is to offer entertainment that brings generations together,” said Steve Leatham, MSC Cruises’ vice president of entertainment.

He said the cruise line is building on what guests already love while introducing new ideas, new energy and new cruise-industry first experiences.

“There is something for everyone, wherever they choose to sail,” he exclaimed.

The robotics initiative is part of a wider refresh of MSC Cruises’ entertainment lineup for 2026, with new activities planned for families, teens, and adults across multiple ships.

Shows, Parades, and Family Programming

MSC Cruises’ entertainment update will touch nearly every corner of its onboard programming in 2026.

Said Matteo Mancini, MSC Cruises’ family entertainment development director, “MSC Entertainment is fully focused on the future and is actively investing in the development of new, modern forms of entertainment, spanning digital and immersive experiences.”

Across the fleet, the cruise line is introducing new original game shows designed to bring more audience participation into daily schedules.

“Chart Toppers,” a music-focused competition spanning decades of popular hits, and “Quiz O’Clock,” a revised take on traditional cruise trivia, will be staged on multiple ships and integrated into evening entertainment lineups.

Several ships will see significant updates to theater productions and live music this year, including MSC Poesia, which will debut 20 big band performances and host “Dirty Dancing: In Concert” as part of its refreshed entertainment lineup.

Meanwhile, MSC Seaview and MSC Grandiosa will introduce updated main theater productions, as MSC Meraviglia brings back the flamenco show “Paz.”

On MSC Seascape, dueling pianos and a new American country band experience will be added to the live music lineup, while a redesigned 1970s-themed party will also roll out across the fleet with updated music, new costumes, and more interactive elements.

Family programming is expanding as well in 2026. The LEGO Parade, first revealed on Cruise Hive in 2024, will grow from seven ships to 14 in 2026, with planned rollouts to MSC Grandiosa, MSC Poesia, MSC Divinia, MSC Seaside, and MSC Seaview.

A digital-focused LEGO family game show, first piloted on MSC World America, will launch on more ships, adding a competitive final round designed for both parents and children.

MSC Cruises’ Professional Coaches Program, offering instruction in sports, wellness, and arts activities, will also expand to 15 ships following its initial pilot.

An expanded naturalist program with wildlife and geology presentations, including sessions design specifically for children, will also be a highlight on MSC Poesia.

Additional educational programming will launch fleetwide through Ocean Day, an initiative developed with the MSC Foundation that focuses on ocean awareness and learning for younger passengers.

More Cruise Ships Cancel Puerto Vallarta, Other Mexico Ports Still a Go

Key Aspects:

  • Norwegian Bliss will not visit Puerto Vallarta on Wednesday, February 25, due to heightened tensions and unrest.
  • The ship departed Los Angeles on Sunday, February 2, and guests onboard understand the decision.
  • Other ports in Mexico are not yet facing similar cancellations, but cruise lines will always prioritize safety.

Norwegian Bliss will be skipping her upcoming call to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 in light of the rapidly escalating cartel-related violence in the region.

Norwegian Bliss is homeported from Los Angeles, California and departed on her current cruise on Sunday, February 22, the day a prominent cartel leader was killed in Tapalpa, Jalisco, 105 miles east-southeast of Puerto Vallarta.

Rather than risk visiting a port of call that may not be safe for guests, the 168,000-gross-ton ship is heading straight for her second port of call, Mazatlan, as confirmed by cruise ship tracking.

Guests onboard were notified of the change as the update was finalized. Without an alternative port of call available, Norwegian Bliss will most likely spend Wednesday at sea instead.

A Norwegian Cruise Line spokesperson stated to Cruise Hive,The safety and wellbeing of our guests, crew and the communities we visit are always a top priority. Due to ongoing security operations and the recent U.S. travel warning issued for select areas in Mexico, Norwegian Bliss’ scheduled call to Puerto Vallarta on Feb. 25, 2026 has been canceled. We are closely monitoring the ongoing situation and any additional itinerary updates for ships scheduled to call to Mexico in the near future will be communicated directly with impacted guests.

While travelers are disappointed, safety is always the most important consideration, and comments on Reddit largely support the decision to skip Puerto Vallarta.

“It’s disappointing, but these things can happen, and hopefully everyone in Puerto Vallarta stays safe. We will find another time to visit,” one guest posted.

Norwegian Bliss can welcome 4,002 guests aboard at double occupancy and is also home to approximately 1,700 international crew members. It is not worth risking even a single one of those souls on board for a port of call that may not be safe.

This is the third ship that has confirmed a port cancellation for Puerto Vallarta. Cruise Hive previously reported that Holland America Line’s Zuiderdam would not be visiting on Monday, February 23, as originally planned, and additional itinerary changes may be likely for other ships with the port on their schedules.

Princess Cruises’ Royal Princess was scheduled to visit Puerto Vallarta on Wednesday, but that call was likewise cancelled.

“Our security team has been closely monitoring the situation in Western Mexico. To prioritize the safety of our guests and crew, we have cancelled Royal Princess’ planned visit to Puerto Vallarta on February 25, “Princess Cruises said in a statement to Cruise Hive.

Over the next couple of weeks, additional calls from Zuiderdam, Norwegian Bliss, and Royal Princess may also be impacted. Carnival Panorama is also scheduled for Puerto Vallarta on Tuesday, March 3, and Island Princess is scheduled on Tuesday, March 10.

There is no word on whether or not future itineraries may also be impacted, but cruise lines will undoubtedly keep a close eye on the situation and will evaluate each ship’s visit on an individual basis with the most updated information possible.

What About Other Ports in Mexico?

At the moment, there are no confirmations from any cruise line that other Mexican ports of call are impacted by any increasing unrest.

Quantum of the Seas is visiting Ensenada as planned on Monday, and both Royal Princess and Carnival Radiance appear on course for their visits to Cabo San Lucas.

Cozumel is as busy as ever with seven ships in port: Disney Treasure, Disney Magic, Norwegian Viva, Carnival Jubilee, Rhapsody of the Seas, MSC Grandiosa, and Carnival Valor.

Four ships are scheduled for Monday in Costa Maya, but all have cancelled their visits. Icon of the Seas is spending the day at sea on the way to her Roatan visit on Tuesday, while Grandeur of the Seas is now in Roatan instead.

Seven Seas Grandeur is having a sea day before her planned visit to Belize on Tuesday, while Explorer of the Seas is also having a sea day and will be in Cozumel on Tuesday.

To be clear, the cancellations for Costa Maya are not related to any unrest or cartel-related issues, but is strictly a matter of poor weather and unsafe docking conditions.

While the situation in Mexico is fluid at this time, cruise lines will continually evaluate each visit and will make whatever decisions are necessary to safeguard their ships, guests, and crew members at all times.
