New Late Night Dining Options Coming to Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival Cruise Line has added delicious new late night snack options onboard for guests, with availability beginning the week of July 17, 2023.

Exact dates and opening/closing times for the new options will vary by ship and may even vary on different sailings, but this is a welcome option for passengers interested in grabbing a bite after karaoke, late night comedy, evening shows, or other nighttime activities.

New Late Night Snacks to Be Offered

Rumors have been floating around social media recently that Carnival Cruise Line planned to bring back the “Midnight Buffet” that was offered onboard years ago.

These gala events involved not only amazing spreads of delicious eats carefully arranged into appetizing displays, but also showcased ice sculptures, carved fruits and vegetables, and other beautiful accents.

Brand ambassador John Heald has addressed the rumors, confirming that the cruise line will not be recreating the sumptuous late-night feast – much of which went uneaten and was wasted.

What the cruise line is doing, however, is expanding late night dining options by offering different foods for guests to choose from rather than just one more slice of pizza or an extra ice cream cone.

“We will be complementing the wondering pizza we offer with these late night options,” Heald said as he revealed the “Late Night Snack” menu.

The snacks available include chicken noodle soup, coleslaw, potato salad, chips and salsa, fried chicken tenders with a honey mustard sauce, hot dogs available with chili or grilled onions, an Italian meatball sandwich, and a ham and cheese roll.

Chicago-style pizza will also be available in cheese or pepperoni, and guests with a sweet tooth will want to snack on the chocolate chip and sugar cookies. All items are complimentary and included in the cruise fare with no extra charge.

Heald mentions that the new snack menu will be starting “next week” (the week of July 17, 2023), and the availability times may be different on different ships. “Timing may vary from ship to ship, considering factors such as peak periods and guest demographics,” Heald explained.

This news is almost one year after Carnival Cruise Line announced several permanent dining cutbacks, including eliminating the popular 24-hour pizza. At the same time, Late Night Snacks that had been offered in each ship’s Lido Restaurants were also discontinued.

It is possible that guest feedback and requests have contributed to Carnival bringing back these late night snacks, including the pizza on the menu. In recent days, Carnival Cruise Line has demonstrated its responsiveness to guest feedback by resuming the Diamond Lunch loyalty benefit as well as adding more vegan menu options to the main dining rooms.

Room service remains available 24 hours a day onboard Carnival ships, but nominal fees do apply for late night orders. Only the continental breakfast menu, available from 6-10 a.m., is complimentary.

Reducing Food Waste

All cruise lines are concerned with waste and efficiency, and food waste is one of the biggest culprits onboard.

Revamping menus to remove less popular ingredients, trimming buffet dining hours, changing portion sizes, charging for third and fourth entrees, and developing cocktails that use rinds or other normally wasted food scraps are all strategies different cruise lines have used to combate food waste.

In 2022, Carnival Cruise Line added food waste biodigesters to its fleet, and in March 2023, the cruise line made an additional $500,000 investment in more biodigesters, parts, and maintenance for the technology.

Biodigesters rapidly break down food waste using beneficial microorganisms, resulting in much less waste being discharged into marine environments or offloaded in port.

Hopefully, the addition of the Late Night Snack menu will be a welcome option for cruise guests without contributing to food waste.

Carnival Cruise Line Addresses Cheating Claims at Trivia

Carnival Cruise Line has addressed guest concerns about the potential for cheating at trivia games onboard, once again showing responsiveness to guests’ feedback and willingness to raise awareness of the issue and what can be done about it. While it may seem trivial to some, onboard trivia contests can be serious fun for fans of popular music, television, movies, and more.

Trivia Cheating Claims Brought to Attention

Every cruise guest is aware of onboard trivia games, fun contests that test passengers’ knowledge. While general trivia matches may be more casual, some themed trivia activities can be very competitive indeed.

Particularly popular are trivia contests about television shows like Game of Thrones and Friends, the Harry Potter franchise, different sports, and musicians such as Michael Jackson and The Beatles.

Carnival Cruise Line brand ambassador John Heald has noted recently that some guests have concerns about cheating at these most popular trivia games. Some questions are deliberately designed to stump even the most knowledgeable fans, yet teams seem to get perfect scores consistently.

Accusations of cheating during trivia contests have arisen, with claims made that questions are so difficult that it’s impossible for teams to get perfect scores, hence they must be cheating. Other claims allege that passengers have observed rival teams using cell phones to search for correct answers even while the game continues.

Worth Reading: Can Carnival Guests Get Perfect Trivia Scores Without Cheating?

“I know that some people take trivia very seriously and I know that the staff tell people to turn their phones off and check for this kind of thing,” Heald said. “But, at the end of the day it is supposed to be, well you know, Fun.”

Carnival “Fun Squad” members – crew members who host trivia and other onboard activities as part of the Entertainment staff – do generally ask that participants not use cell phones, shout out answers, or otherwise detract from the fun of the game. When some trivias attract dozens of participants, however, it can be difficult to ensure nothing at all nefarious is going on during the game.

Is It Cheating?

Of course, it is impossible to control all possible perceived attempts at cheating. Sometimes a “cheater” may simply be using the Carnival Hub app to check on other activities, texting a family member onboard about the game they’ve joined, or reviewing photos they’ve taken of their cruise.

Because many Carnival trivias reuse questions on different sailings, it is also possible that loyal guests are already familiar with even the toughest trivia questions, and therefore do indeed score perfectly on an otherwise challenging trivia.

With more Carnival cruise ships achieving faster, more reliable internet connections – 11 ships in the fleet are now equipped with Starlink Maritime Wi-Fi – it is of course easier than ever for someone to look up an answer to a puzzling trivia question. Cheating does happen occasionally, and can be sour note on what is supposed to be a lighthearted, fun activity.

Unfortunately, calling out a potential cheater, banning them from games, or otherwise creating penalties is not possible, as these games are meant to be fun and not taken to extremes. While everyone wants to win a 24-karat-gold-ship-on-a-stick – the most coveted of Carnival prizes – there can only be one winner, and sometimes, it isn’t the person who thought they would win a particular game.

Preventing Cheating

So, what can Carnival Cruise Line do about the possibility of trivia cheaters? Heald has promised to make attempts to rectify the problem.

“I will pass this on to my colleagues in the entertainment department and see what we can do to try and stop trivia cheats,” he said.

With higher onboard internet speeds and more Carnival team members using tablets as they host games, it could be possible to use a larger question bank even for the most popular themed trivias. With more questions to choose from, fewer guests would be familiar with every question on every sailing, and other fans may have more opportunities to win.

Guests could also be asked to put their phones and tablets away more frequently, or disqualified from a particular game if they are using their phone as questions are being asked.

It might even be possible for the cruise line to keep a list of the stateroom numbers and names of trivia winners and restrict the top prizes to one per stateroom, per sailing, which could spread the honors out to more guests.

In the end, however, it is as Heald said – trivia is supposed to be fun, and enjoying the game with a lighthearted attitude will go a long way for all guests to have a great time no matter who “wins” each trivia contest.

Holland America Line Has Biggest Booking Day in 150-Year History

Holland America Line has announced that July 11, 2023 was the biggest ever booking day in the illustrious cruise line’s 150-year history, demonstrating both the quality of the brand as well as the strength of the cruise industry as a whole as travelers continue to plan for future sailings.

Holland America Line Reports Biggest Ever Booking Day

Holland America Line, one of the foremost cruise lines for global destinations, broke not only its single-day booking record on July 11, 2023, but also had its highest ever revenue booking day in the company’s history – all the way back to its founding in 1873.

While the company has not released exact figures for the number of bookings made or their total revenue, breaking such records is momentous indeed.

This demonstrates the surge in cruising desire as well as the willingness of travelers to be making vacation plans in advance, as the line has clarified that “most” of the bookings are for sailings in 2024 and 2025.

The surge in bookings also speaks well of Holland America Line’s product and the quality of cruising guests expect as they plan their future travel.

“We see a record booking day like this as encouraging for the whole industry, but for Holland America Line, it’s an endorsement of the quality of cruising product we’re able to offer to our guests,” said Gus Antorcha, president, Holland America Line.

“People are planning their vacations for next year and even into 2025, and in the process, they’re choosing the best service at sea and the unforgettable destinations that we offer.”

Ongoing Trend

Setting such a notable record for bookings continues a trend many cruise lines and port destinations are seeing in recent months – a rise in demand for cruise travel and guests eager to make plans for setting sail.

Confidence in cruise bookings continues to rise, as evidenced even with Holland America Line’s own Black Friday surge last November, when the company’s bookings surpassed 2019 levels.

Other cruise lines have seen similar record-breaking bookings and amazing demand for sailings. Carnival Cruise Line reported a record-breaking first quarter of 2023, as did sister brand AIDA Cruises. Different cruise lines have also broken their own single-day records and seen special cruises, such as world voyages, sell out spectacularly fast.

Different ports of call are also reporting record-breaking guest arrivals, with thousands of passengers visiting top destinations every week. Nassau, the Dominican Republic, Stornoway (Scotland), Mexico, Jamaica, and other ports have all reported outstanding passenger numbers and cruise ship calls in 2023.

Most Popular Destinations

Holland America Line has not revealed which cruise regions or specific itineraries have been the most sought after for recent bookings, but the cruise line is the leader in Alaska cruising with scenic visits to Glacier Bay, a bucket-list destination for many travelers.

The cruise line also offers its unique “Alaska Up Close” program with immersive onboard activities, curated shore tours, and enriching cultural experiences that give passengers a deeper, more authentic visit to the Last Frontier.

Also available are new, more immersive experiences in Europe through the cruise line’s collaboration with National Geographic, new sailings visiting 10 different countries in Asia for the 2024-25 season, and longer sailings in Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific.

Sure to be of special interest are two unique sailings in April 2024 during the upcoming total eclipse. For those voyages, one on Koningsdam and the other on Zaandam, Holland America Line is bringing aboard leading astronomy experts to add even more depth and insight for guests in the path of totality.

Holland America Line also offers a variety of short and long cruises visiting the Caribbean, Mexico, and Hawaii, along with Panama Canal cruises and transatlantic sailings.

Whatever travelers are craving for their adventuring needs, Holland America Line has a cruise to fulfill their travel dreams.

Carnival Cruise Line Brings Back Benefit for Most Loyal Cruisers

Carnival Cruise Line has announced that it will be returning a popular benefit for the most loyal cruisers, those in the “Diamond” tier of the cruise line’s loyalty program. Beginning in August, the special lunch for Diamond cruisers will be reinstated, with a revamped menu sure to entice discerning cruise travelers.

Loyalty Lunch to Resume

Carnival Cruise Line brand ambassador John Heald has announced that the Diamond Lunch for the highest loyalty level of VIFP (Very Important Fun Person) guests will be returning after feedback and requests. The lunch, which was a mainstay benefit for years, was recently discontinued to become a cocktail party rather than a full lunch.

Guest reaction and feedback, however, showed how popular the lunch is among Carnival cruisers, which prompted Heald to take the matter to the cruise line’s executives for reconsideration.

“I had a few of you write to me saying how much you missed the lunch,” Heald said. “I sent those comments to my colleague and our wonderful Senior Vice President Beard of Food and Beverage who has told me that as of cruises starting on or around August 1st he will reinstate the Diamond Lunch with a new menu.”

This reaction shows that Carnival Cruise Line does in fact monitor and take into account guest feedback to continue improving their offerings and bringing travelers the experiences they want to have.

While Heald confirmed the lunches will begin on or around August 1, 2023, there is no firm date for exactly when each ship in the Carnival fleet will resume the Diamond Lunch. Only Diamond levels guests receive the “special event invitation from the Captain” for the lunch, which is separate from the Diamond and Platinum VIFP Party that is offered on sailings of five nights or longer.

New Diamond Lunch Menu

The revamped menu for the Diamond Lunch includes appetizers, entrees, and desserts, with a range of delicious options for all food preferences.

To whet the appetite, guests will be able to choose from Tuna and salmon crudo with a wonton crisp; natchitoches meat pies from Emeril’s Bistro, or Caesar salad as appetizers.

This is followed by a choice of grilled jumbo shrimp with butternut-cauliflower gratin accented with creamy sun-dried tomato sauce; bacon-wrapped filet mignon with roasted potato and asparagus; or baked vegetable casserole with cheddar and parmesan gratinate and pumpkin garlic bread.

Carnival Lunch Menu

For dessert, guests can opt for rich chocolate decadence with lemon gratin and raspberries; pear almond crostata with mascarpone cream, or fresh fruit with pineapple sorbet. For each course, a vegetarian option is available, and guests can also let their servers know of any food allergy concerns.

Previously, the Diamond Lunch menu had similar options, such as filet mignon but without the bacon-wrapped accent, and chocolate hazelnut icebox pie rather than the chocolate decadence dessert. The menu tends to be refreshed approximately every quarter (four times per year), but favorite dishes do generally remain available.

Becoming a Diamond Guest

Guests reach Diamond level VIFP status when they have cruised with Carnival for at least 200 nights. At this time, Carnival Cruise Line does not offer extra “points” for booking suites, special cruises, or using special offers, but Heald has hinted that the loyalty program is due for an overhaul and such changes may be coming.

In addition to the Diamond Lunch, other benefits exclusive to the highest loyalty level include unlimited Wash & Fold laundry service, guaranteed seating time requests for dinner in the Main Dining Room, and priority reservations at onboard specialty restaurants.

One-time benefits are also provided to guests who have achieved Diamond status, including charitable donations in the guest’s name and a complimentary meal for two at a specialty restaurant of the guest’s choice.

Latest Update Shows Disney Treasure Construction Progress

Disney Cruise Line provides another update on the construction of its newest cruise ship, Disney Treasure. Set to join the fleet in 2024, the ship’s assembly is steadily progressing, with the recent installation of the bridge block marking a crucial stage of the shipbuilding process.

Disney Treasure will be the sistership to Disney Wish and a third LNG-powered cruise ship, which will begin operation in 2025. The design concept for Disney Treasure has generated a great deal of enthusiasm. Inspired by Walt Disney’s passion for travel and discovery, Disney’s Imagineers have created a design that captures the spirit of adventure.

Installation of the Bridge Block

Construction of Disney Cruise Line’s newest cruise ship, Disney Treasure, is advancing at a record pace. Although the first steel was only cut in January 2023, the workers at the Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, have completed most of the large block section installations.

June 26, 2023, saw the installation of the bridge block on Disney Treasure. This section of the ship houses key navigational equipment, including the ship’s wheel, allowing the captain and crew to control the ship’s direction and speed.

With the structure largely assembled, attention will now turn to the inside, where crews will bring the Disney Treasure to life. This next phase involves fitting out the ship’s many amenities, including dining areas, entertainment venues, guest cabins, and public spaces. Something that we will be able to follow with Disney’s official construction log.

Detailing Every Step

Disney has launched a detailed log documenting each significant milestone in the construction process. Starting from the steel-cutting ceremony that marked the beginning of the ship’s construction in January 2023, the log chronicles the ship’s journey from its first stages.

The journey began with the steel-cutting ceremony on January 19, 2023. This inaugural stage involved cutting the first piece of steel in the shape of the ship, marking the formal start of the construction process. This crucial step honored a longstanding maritime tradition, signifying the transition from blueprint to reality.

March 30, 2023, saw another significant maritime tradition – the Keel Laying Ceremony. As part of this ceremony, a newly minted coin was placed under the ship’s keel, symbolizing good fortune for the vessel and its crew.

The construction process has advanced rapidly with the installation of the bow on May 12, 2023, and on March 22, 2023, the Floating Engine Room Unit (FERU).

Disney Treasure Debuts in 2024

Disney Treasure is set to debut in 2024 and will be the sixth cruise ship in Disney Cruise Line’s fleet. Belonging to the Wish-class vessels, it will be the sister ship to Disney Wish, launched in 2022, and a yet unnamed third vessel set to enter service in 2025.

Weighing in at 144,000 gross tons, Disney Treasure will be powered by liquefied natural gas and feature 1,254 cabins. At full capacity, Disney Treasure will accommodate 4,000 passengers, supported by a crew of 1,555.

Disney Treasure‘s designs reflect Walt Disney’s love of exploration. With interior designs that bring to life the grandeur and mystery of a gilded palace, guests will find themselves in some of Disney’s most legendary stories.

The ship’s central feature will be the Grand Hall, which for the first time will include three iconic characters – Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, and the animated Magic Carpet from the Disney classic Aladdin.

With more details set to be unveiled closer to the ship’s launch, the anticipation surrounding Disney Treasure continues to build. The ship’s launch will coincide with the opening of Disney’s second private Bahamian island, Lighthouse Point.

Cruise Line Apologizes for Visiting Port During Whale Hunt

Ambassador Cruise Line has apologized to passengers for recently docking in the Faroe Islands while a local hunting tradition was underway.

The centuries-old hunt is not regularly scheduled but can occur at any time during the summer months when the whales are nearby, and unfortunately took place while the cruise line’s Ambition was in port.

Cruise Passengers Witness Whale Hunt

Ambassador Cruise Line’s Ambition – formerly AIDAmira – was docked in Torshavn on Sunday, July 9, 2023 when the traditional whale hunt occurred. The 48,300-gross ton ship can host 1,248 guests at double occupancy and as many as 1,727 passengers when fully booked. During the summer, the Mistral-class cruise ship is more likely to be sailing with a higher number of guests.

Those guests did not expect to see what could be considered a gruesome custom take place as they arrived at the capital of the Faroe Islands. In the late afternoon, however, they witnessed scenes of the mass hunt and its messy aftermath, during which 78 long-finned pilot whales (Globicephala melas) were killed.

According to Yahoo! News Australia, the ship’s guests were shocked to see the activities close to shore on Sunday afternoon, near where the cruise ship was docked. In less than an hour, the water was distinctly red in the nearby harbor, as scenes played out on shore where the animals had been beached.

Ambassador Cruise Line apologized the next day, objecting to the hunt and reaffirming the company’s commitment to marine conservation and sustainability.

“We were incredibly disappointed that this hunt occurred at the time that our ship was in port. We strongly object to this outdated practice,” the cruise line stated. “Sustainability is one of Ambassador Cruise Line’s core values, and we fully appreciate that witnessing this local event would have been distressing for the majority of guests onboard. Accordingly, we would like to sincerely apologise to them for any undue upset.”

The cruise line’s CEO, Christian Verhounig, reiterated the cruise line’s partnership with ORCA, a charity dedicated to studying and protecting whales, dolphins, and porpoises in UK and European waters, and further expressed disappointment in the ongoing hunting practice.

“We are dedicated to supporting ORCA in their endeavours to collect data and to monitor whales and dolphins and we are extremely disappointed that this has happened after weeks of trying to open constructive dialogue with the Faroese government and Visit Faroes on these issues,” Verhounig said.

“We continue to educate our guests and crew not to buy or eat any whale or dolphin meat and stand against any profiteering from commercial whaling and dolphin hunts.”

Ambassador’s partnership with ORCA includes a first-ever cruise “anti-whaling” campaign and pledge that firmly states “Ambassador Cruise Line is opposed to all commercial whaling.” This includes urging the Faroese Government to end their hunting practices.

The cruise line even brings ocean conservationists onboard select sailings to offer educational programs to guests as well as to collect data to further support conservation efforts, but it is not known if one of these conservationists was onboard Ambition during the impacted cruise.

Ambition is currently sailing an 11-night “Iceland’s Land of Ice & Fire” itinerary that departed Belfast on Thursday, July 6, and called at Liverpool prior to the port stop in Torshavn. The cruise has continued on to ports of call throughout Iceland.

Ambassador Cruise Line has continued visits to Torshavn planned with both Ambition as well as its larger ship, Ambience. Other cruise lines that visit the Faroe Islands, which are located between the UK and Iceland, include Azamara Cruises, Silversea, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Viking Cruises, Oceania Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, and more.

Protestors of the hunt have urged all cruise lines to boycott the Faroe Islands until the practice is halted.

About the Traditional Hunt

Called “grindadráp” in Faroese, the drive-style hunt is a community effort that brings in large numbers of pilot whales – which are actually a dolphin species and are not considered threatened or endangered – to be beached for hunting. The practice dates back more than 1,000 years, and is an important part of local history and culture.

The meat and blubber are still consumed as a delicacy and are distributed throughout the community.

Since 1948, hunts have been closely regulated and participants must be properly trained and supervised by local police. Hunting is only permitted on authorized beaches, and special weapons thought to minimize cruelty and better preserve the meat are required to be used.

In recent decades, however, the hunt has drawn increasing criticism from conservationists and animal rights activists, as well as individuals and groups concerned about the potential toxicity of eating whale meat. Protests and boycotts are common surrounding the hunt, including among local residents.

Norwegian Cruise Ship Deployment Change Announced

The reason behind the cancellation of the Norwegian Spirit cruise ship’s 2024 Alaska season has been revealed. Over the past months, there has been a lot of speculation, ranging from full ship charters and even some saying Norwegian Cruise Line would sell the Leo-class cruise ship.

That the Norwegian Spirit has been chosen for operations in Asia is, in fact, not surprising. Initially built for the Asian cruise market for Star Cruises, the vessel sailed in Singapore, Hong Kong, and South-East Asia between 1998 and 2004.

Relocation to Asia

Taiwanese media have revealed that Norwegian Spirit will operate in Asia between June and September 2024. This is instead of the Alaska cruises Norwegian Cruise Line cancelled in that period in May of 2023.

A Taiwanese tour company, Lion Travel, has chartered the vessel and will operate cruises around Taiwan in cooperation with Norwegian Cruise Line.

Norwegian Spirit will embark on its first voyage out of Keelung in June of 2024. Although some sources, particularly in the Taiwan media, have referred to the ship as the Norwegian Endeavour, official communications from Lion Tours and Norwegian Cruise Line maintain the name Norwegian Spirit.

The term “Norwegian Endeavour” may be a name used specifically for the charters or may be a mistranslation. It seems reasonably certain that Norwegian Cruise Line will not be renaming the cruise ship for the Asian market.

Boost for the Asian Cruise Market

Taiwan’s geographical position connecting Northeast and Southeast Asia offers a strategic advantage, making it an enticing prospect for the Asian cruise market.

The partnership between Lion Travel and Norwegian Cruise Line aims to make Taiwan an attractive destination for cruise travel.

Wang Wenjie, chairman of Lion Travel: “Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) is one of the top three cruise groups in the world, and its Norwegian Spirit will launch 26 trips to Keelung and Kaohsiung from June next year. The Norwegian Spirit, which was renovated during the outbreak at a cost of 100 million U.S. dollars, has been sailing regularly between Canada and the United States, New Zealand, and Australia since last year, and this will be the first time that it sails to Asia.”

Norwegian Spirit Cruise Ship

Similarly, Jason Krimmel, Norwegian Cruise Line’s Director of Sales and Marketing, expressed that Asia, particularly Taiwan, has always been an important source market for the cruise line.

The strong recovery of Taiwan’s cruise market and the enthusiasm of Taiwanese travelers for cruise travel were significant factors in choosing the Keelung and Kaohsiung twin homeports for their return to the Asian market in 2024.

Jason Krimmel, Norwegian Cruise Line’s Director of Sales and Marketing: “Asia has always been an important source market for Norwegian Cruise Line, and the strong recovery of the Taiwan cruise market, coupled with the optimism of Taiwan travelers’ love for cruise travel, has led Norwegian Cruise Line to choose the Keelung and Kaohsiung twin homeports as the first stop for its return to the Asian market in 2024.”

Besides Norwegian Cruise Line, other cruise operators have expressed interest in Taiwan as a cruise hub. Resorts World Cruises sails from the island regularly, and Seabourn, Silversea, and Regent Seven Seas all have calls scheduled.

Norwegian Spirit Itineraries

Lion Travel and Norwegian Cruise Line are jointly launching a series of itineraries aboard the Norwegian Spirit. These include 26 voyages ranging from 3 to 9 days, from June to September 2024. Destinations include Fukuoka, Hakata, and Kagoshima in Japan, South Korea, and ports in Taiwan.

Lion Travel has revealed that, after the Norwegian Spirit arrives in Taiwan, the ship will significantly increase the provision of Chinese language services and collaborate with local Taiwanese food and beverage brands to offer guests more culinary diversity.

Launched in 1998 as SuperStar Leo,  Norwegian Spirit sailed in Asia for the first six years of her life at sea. First operating from Singapore, she later repositioned to Hong Kong, sailing to China, Vietnam, and the South China Sea.

In 2004, Norwegian Cruise Line took possession of the 75,904 gross tons cruise ship and renamed her Norwegian Spirit

Disney Cruise Line Introduces Price Hike That Adults Won’t Like

Disney Cruise Line has discreetly updated their pricing for adult specialty dining at select restaurants across their fleet, effective immediately.

New dining reservations at Palo, Palo Steakhouse, Remy, and Enchanté will reflect the adjusted prices. This increase is notable as it’s the second time within the year that Disney Cruise Line has bumped up their onboard fees.

During what is the cruise line’s 25th anniversary year, Disney also increased pricing for a different adult activity, the various wine and liquor tastings the cruise line offers. This comes in addition to a gratuity increase that the cruise line introduced in July 2022.

Specialty Dining Experience at a Premium

Disney Cruise Line has introduced a price hike for four specialty restaurants onboard Disney Magic, Disney Fantasy, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, and Disney Wish.

The price increase, effective immediately, was unannounced. Guests with existing reservations for the restaurants in question will remain at the old pricing, while new reservations will include the increase.

Disney Wish – Palo Steakhouse
Disney Wish – Palo Steakhouse

Dinner at Palo, a northern Italian-inspired dining venue aboard the Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, and Disney Fantasy, and the Palo Steakhouse, an Italian and steakhouse fusion available aboard the Disney Wish, have seen a modest price hike of $5. The popular Palo Brunch continues to be available at its previous rate of $45.

High-end French cuisine establishment Remy has undergone a more significant increase. Known for its sophisticated menus and superior service, the base dinner price has increased by $10, putting the new price at $135.

Disney Wish Dining
Disney Wish Dining

The same counts for Enchanté found onboard Disney Wish. The price for dinner has been increased by $10 to $135. Enchanté offers guests a romantic, French-inspired gourmet experience.

The menu, by three Michelin-starred Chef Arnaud Lallement, features high-quality, seasonal ingredients to ensure an exceptional dining experience. The meal is accompanied by a carefully chosen wine list and first-class service. Additionally, guests can enjoy a lavish Champagne brunch or a delectable 5-course dessert menu as part of their experience at Enchanté.

A Trend of Price Increases

This latest development follows similar price increases by Disney Cruise Line. Just a few months ago, the company raised the prices for their onboard tasting seminars, with some classes seeing an increase of up to 40%. Tastings such as Cognac, Martini, Stem-to-Stern Wine, and Mojito & Caipirinha have doubled in price since April 2022.

Disney Magic Cruise Ship

A year ago, on July 12, 2022, Disney Cruise Line also raised gratuities across its entire fleet. This move increased the gratuity rate by $1 per guest per day.

Consequently, the gratuity rate is $14.50 for most rooms and $15.50 for concierge staterooms and suites. However, this now includes the stateroom assistant host in the automatic or pre-paid gratuities.

Disney Cruise Line Marks 25 Years of Maritime Magic

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Disney Cruise Line has a summer season of Silver Anniversary festivities through September 2023 on select cruises.

Guests aboard these cruises can expect various special features, including unique anniversary costumes for Mickey and Minnie and an exclusive anniversary toast led by the ship’s captain and cruise director.

The celebrations also introduce a new fireworks display specifically designed for the 25th anniversary. The fireworks will be available on select cruises only.

Disney Magic is currently sailing to the Bahamas and the Caribbean from Miami; Disney Wonder is operating Alaskan cruises from Vancouver, Canada; Disney Dream is cruising the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, and the Greek Isles; and Disney Fantasy is sailing around the Eastern and Western Caribbean.

Lastly, Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the 5,555-guest Disney Wish, offers cruises to Nassau and Castaway Cay from Port Canaveral.

Cunard Announces Special Event Cruises for 2024

Cunard Line, already known for its ultra luxurious appointments and classic style of cruising, has announced amazing special cruises with its Event Voyages for 2024.

These unique sailings offer immersive onboard experiences with top experts in different fields, giving guests the opportunity for in-depth exploration of popular topics and first-hand insights into the arts, sports, gastronomy, and more.

Cunard Line’s 2024 Event Voyages

While every cruise is an event unto itself, particularly on a renowned line such as Cunard, the special “Event Voyages” offer much more than typical cruise ship entertainment and activities.

For 2024, Cunard Line is offering seven themed voyages, each with spectacular opportunities that travelers will not find on land.

“Cunard’s Event Voyages offer far more than just stand out performances. Each is expertly curated to offer our guests unique opportunities to immerse themselves into theme or occasion, meeting and hearing from world-renowned leaders in their fields, many with interactive workshops and a programme of activities and performances to choose from throughout the day and evening,” said Matt Gleaves, VP Commercial, Cunard North America.

The line’s current flagship, Queen Mary 2, will host four of the themed voyages, while the other three will be aboard Queen Elizabeth.

Queen Mary 2 Event Voyages

In June, an 8-night eastbound transatlantic sailing from New York to Southampton will offer a “London Theatre at Sea” musical theatre theme in partnership with the Olivier Awards, first established in 1976 to honor theatre, opera, and dance.

Onboard, guests can join in-depth acting workshops, participate in behind-the-scenes talks, and enjoy award-winning performances. The cruise will depart on June 15, 2024.

Queen Mary 2‘s 400th transatlantic crossing will be even more celebratory with its own anniversary theme, sure to evoke the rich history of Cunard Line’s transatlantic voyages. This momentous sailing is August 23-30, departing from New York and traveling to Southampton, and will pay homage to the cruise line’s lengthy history along the way.
