Could Carnival Be Considering Dress Code Changes?

Ah, dress codes. We had them in school, and we still have them on cruises.

However, cruise dress codes are in place for a reason. You do not want to see someone’s feet (or worse!) when you are trying to enjoy a meal.

One cruiser unfortunately did experience some discomfort on their recent Carnival cruise when fellow passengers decided to disregard the dress code in dining areas.

This passenger took to Facebook to share their grievances about the poorly enforced dress codes while on the 2,124-passenger Carnival Legend.

“Our one complaint is the dress code in the main dining room! Too many men wearing hats – concert tee shirts – flip flops!” complained the poster. “We saw this even on elegant nights!”

Carnival’s dress code suggests dressing in ‘Cruise Casual’ — which is outlined thoroughly on their website.

For women, this means wearing casual or summer dresses, trousers or skirts with a blouse, jeans, and even elegant shorts. The men’s suggestions include dress pants, polo shirts, jeans, and of course elegant shorts.

What are elegant shorts and why are they casual? The world may never know.

This dress code also asks guests not to wear basketball shorts, flip-flops, cut-off jeans, swimsuits, or tracksuit trousers. While these clothing items might seem more casual, the cruise line wants to make sure all guests feel comfortable when dining.

The poster also added, “In the buffet area – people in bathing suits – no cover ups – bare feet!” No thank you.

As for Elegant Nights, the dress code is a bit more strict — along with the cruise casual clothing restrictions, this version also does not allow for shorts, jeans, sportswear, and baseball caps.

However, this poster pointed out that neither dress code is being enforced as they should.

The post tagged Carnival Cruise Line’s brand ambassador John Heald to ask for help in understanding why people are allowed to dress in such a way on a cruise that would be unacceptable elsewhere.

Heald quickly responded, initially hoping that the dress code violators did not spoil the cruise.

In an interesting twist, however, he then went on to express that the dress code might need to be revisited.

“I do think we need to take another look at the dining recommendation dress codes. We haven’t as it really is impossible to police this completely,” he said.

While it may be hard for the crew to enforce these guidelines fully, what is and isn’t suitable dining attire seems to be becoming a recurring issue for guests.

Denim Deja Vu

Just days ago a large debate was sparked after a passenger complained about men wearing jeans during an elegant dinner while on the 2,610-passenger Carnival Spirit.

Jeans are not recommended for elegant dining experiences with Carnival Cruise Line, but this passenger decided to let it affect them.

Unlike the poster from Carnival Legend who clarified they still had a great time, this cruiser was livid about their experience and thought the cruise line would lose guests due to the poorly enforced dress code.

Again, in comes Heald to save the day! After suggesting the passenger should not let other’s fashion choices bother their dining experience, he created a poll to see how fellow cruisers felt about others wearing jeans for formal occasions.

The results were that most would not care if they saw someone wearing jeans, though maybe a new one poll is now warranted about wearing shoes!

Carnival Cruise Line’s Elegant Nights were formerly known as Formal Nights — the ships even used to have a shop where passengers could rent formalwear.

Over time, the dress code has become significantly less strict, and Heald has heard it all when it comes to complaints.

Another recent issue on Carnival Legend was whether or not military uniforms were appropriate in dining areas.

The complaint came from a cruiser when he spotted three men wearing uniforms. These US military service members were celebrating their retirement from their careers, but apparently it was too much for this one guest.

After badgering Heald on why this was allowed, the poster added, “It brings back to a reality that [guests] are trying to get away from, so I’m not just speaking for myself. What does cruising have to do with war.”

Carnival Cruise Line does allow for military uniforms to be worn, and Heald suggested this one passenger simply should look away.

Bare feet and a full uniform are two very different instances, however. It may be worth it for the dress codes to be reconsidered and more strictly enforced moving forward — though many might appreciate the cruise line keeping it casual.

After all, cruisers just want to have fun!

Princess Cruises Cancels Future Sailings From Texas for Redeployment

They say the early bird gets the worm, but guests who booked well in advance for a cruise got bad news for voyages departing from Galveston, Texas, between late 2026 and early 2027.

Princess Cruises announced it would remove its 141,000-gross-ton Majestic Princess from the homeport, beginning with cruises scheduled in November 2026.

In the announcement, the cruise line said, “Princess Cruises has made the difficult decision to cancel all sailings aboard Majestic Princess from Galveston scheduled between November 2026 and March 2027.”

“We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause our guests and appreciate their understanding as we work to enhance our global offerings.”

Passengers who booked now-cancelled cruise vacations aboard Majestic Princess will receive full refunds from the cruise line.

With the bookings so far ahead, no flights or hotels have likely been booked yet to be cancelled and refunded, but some passengers fear the prices for alternative cruises will increase.

“I bet prices are higher for those who booked a year or more ago,” worried one passenger on social media.

Princess Cruises says it is assisting guests with finding alternative cruise options, including other sailings from Galveston to the Caribbean.

“We remain committed to delivering exceptional vacation experiences and look forward to welcoming guests aboard Majestic Princess in its soon-to-be-announced deployment,” the cruise line said.

Less than two years ago, the cruise line was touting its partnership with the Port of Galveston, sending the city its 3,560-passenger Regal Princess, Majestic Princess’s sister in size and capacity.

At the time, November 2023, Princess Cruises Chief Commercial Officer Terry Thornton said, “Princess loves Texas, and we know Texas enjoys the convenience of having the Love Boat so close by offering a hassle-free drive or convenient fly option.”

It’s uncertain if the cruise line has changed its tune about sailing from the Lone Star State.

With the cancellation of the vessel’s 2026-27 season, Princess Cruises will not have any ships sailing from Texas to replace it.

Right now, its last scheduled Galveston cruise will be in March 2026 on Regal Princess.

Deployment Reshuffle to be Announced

While the news is disconcerting for the passengers looking forward to sailing with Princess Cruises from Texas, the reason for the cancellation has guests wondering what’s to come.

The cruise line said leaving Texas is “part of our broader global fleet deployment strategy.”

At press time, it hadn’t specified what that new global deployment strategy may be and whether or not any of its fleet will call Texas home following the changes.

Passengers on social media shared other unconfirmed cancellations taking place in 2026, including several guests saying they received word that Island Princess’s Hawaii and South Pacific cruise from Los Angeles in September 2026 has been removed.

“Our 32-day South Pacific Islands/Hawaii, September 23 to October 25, 2026, cruise on the Island Princess has been cancelled ‘due to changes in our deployment program,’” shared one guest.

Another said the cruise line had also just cancelled a Southeast Asia voyage, also in September 2026, indicating Princess Cruises’ ship reshuffle could include multiple vessels.

Meanwhile, the Port of Galveston may take a hit if Princess Cruises doesn’t return. But it could be minor, considering the popular port broke its own records in 2024, welcoming more than 380 cruise ship calls and over 3.4 million passengers.

There are a host of major cruise lines basing big vessels there, including Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line, Disney Cruise Line, and Carnival Cruise Line, so passengers have not been left high and dry if Galveston is their go-to homeport.

Virgin Voyages Skyrocketing With Record-Breaking Bookings

Sir Richard Branson loves to celebrate, and his cruise ships show it.

Whether it’s partying with his guests during Scarlet Night or surprising them with free cruises, Branson is having fun operating the cruise newcomer that features adult-only voyages and an anti-cruise cruise environment.

Now he has another reason to celebrate: Passengers absolutely love Virgin Voyages.

The proof is evident in its 2025 wave season, which brought in record-breaking revenue and bookings.

The cruise line, now in its fourth year and adding a fourth ship to its fleet later this year, said bookings are up 34 percent year-over-year, with revenue climbing 45 percent, marking the company’s best period ever.

“These outstanding results show the incredible momentum our brand has built – driven by our Travel Advisors who recognize that our kid-free, award-winning experience offers a true premium alternative in the industry,” said Virgin Voyages’ CEO Nirmal Saverimuttu.

Savermiutto said passengers love the more intimate ships, which each are 110,000 gross tons and accommodate 2,700 guests, as well as the varied offerings and experiences.

“Our record repeat rates are loved by First Mates [travel agents] because another booking is almost guaranteed after their client’s first sailing,” he added.

He says repeat passengers account for as much as 60 percent of bookings.

“Sailors,” as Virgin calls its guests, have been leaving rave reviews following cruises, with some on social media calling it their favorite cruise line.

“Going on my third Virgin cruise next month,” wrote one former guest. “I can’t wait for my family to experience it!”

And, the cruise line’s best season follows the launch of its new 8- to 14-night sailings, which Virgin Voyages says have already driven more than a 50 percent increase in bookings.

“We are a brand that is much loved, much talked about, and much commented on and we embrace that,” said Saverimutto. “This is just the beginning of what we know will be our best year yet.”

Momentum Continues to Build

Virgin Voyages remains on an upward trajectory. At the start of 2025, the company reported it had a 60 percent increase in revenue in the first three weeks of January versus 2024’s same time period.

It also saw a 40 percent uptick in new bookings.

Brilliant Lady Cruise Ship
Brilliant Lady Cruise Ship

During Thanksgiving’s Black Friday sales in November 2024, the cruise line witnessed a 300 percent increase in booking and revenue over the same sale period in 2023.

This year, the anticipation builds as its final ship, Brilliant Lady, joins the fleet in September 2025.

Set to focus on the US market, the new vessel will homeport in New York City, Miami, Los Angeles, and Seattle and will be the first in the fleet to sail through the Panama Canal, as well as the first to enjoy a season in Alaska.

The ship will offer voyages ranging from 5-14 nights, which coincide with the cruise line creating longer itineraries because their passengers can’t seem to get enough.

However, it did upset some guests recently by dropping some longer cruises on its Valiant Lady in favor of shorter 3- and 4-night sailings to the Caribbean.

Still, Virgin Voyages’ “brilliant” marketing has it spitting out exciting new offers seemingly every other week.

From new group booking enhancements to unlimited cruising with an annual pass and from remote work offers to themed voyages, Branson and his team’s unique approach seems to have found a niche in need.

MSC Cruises Receives World America, Marks Milestones for Sister Ships

Let the final countdown to the debut of MSC Cruises’ biggest ship to date begin!

On March 27, 2025, the 215,863-gross-ton MSC World America was officially handed over to MSC Cruises from the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard. What comes next will be a parade of firsts for the vessel.

The delivery ceremony took place in Saint-Nazaire, France. For the occasion, with the cruise line’s second World Class vessel is ready to set sail, Captain Gianluigi Aponte, founder and group chairman of MSC Cruises, and Pierfrancesco Vago, MSC Group’s Cruise Division’s executive chairman, were on hand.

They were joined by the shipyard’s General Manager, Laurent Castaing; Marc Ferracci, the French Minister for Industry and Energy; and the ship’s many engineers, builders, officers, and many others involved in the ship’s construction over the past 30 months.

“Today is a proud moment for all of us at MSC Cruises and Chantiers de l’Atlantique as we mark these major milestones in the development of our fleet,” said Pierfrancesco.

“Our new flagship is a testament to our long-standing, innovative partnership spanning over 20 years, resulting in five groundbreaking prototypes and 19 ships.”

Boasting an array of sustainability enhancements, such as advanced shore power connectivity and wastewater treatment, the 6,762-passenger MSC World America is one of the cruise line’s greenest ships.

Castaing shared that it even “has the best energy efficiency design index (EEDI) from the International Maritime Organization.”

“And we will go even further with the two sister ships we are celebrating today!” Castaing added.

But for future passengers, the handover means they are one step closer to sampling the ship’s brand-new restaurants, entertainment, and activities.

Her big reveal to the North American guests she is built for takes place at MSC Cruises Terminal in PortMiami on April 9, 2025.

Following a star-studded christening event that features the ship’s recently named godmother, Drew BarrymoreMSC World America will set off on a three-night introduction voyage, giving industry insiders a taste of what’s to come.

Her maiden sailing will take place on April 12, 2025, bringing her first official guests on a 7-night Eastern Caribbean cruise to visit the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and the cruise line’s private resort destination, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve in the Bahamas.

She will remain homeported in Miami and offer alternating 7-night journeys between the Eastern and Western Caribbean, with the latter calling in Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico, and Roatan, Honduras, as well as Ocean Cay.

Additional World-Class Ships Feted

The partnership between Chantiers de l’Atlantique and MSC Cruises was further highlighted during the handover by additional milestones taking place simultaneously.

“It is with great emotion that we are marking today not one, but three MSC World Class ships,” said Castaing.

“Continuous improvement of the onboard experience, ever more optimized energy performance – what a journey MSC Cruises and Chantiers de l’Antlantique teams have accomplished so far.”

The cruise line’s third World Class ship, MSC World Asia, celebrated its traditional coin ceremony during the jam-packed day to inspire good fortune and safe sailing when she joins the fleet in the winter of 2026-27.

Meanwhile, the cruise line also revealed the name of its fourth World Class vessel, MSC World Atlantic, and commemorated her steel-cutting at the French shipyard – the beginning of her official construction.

This ship will be added to the fleet in 2027 to offer Caribbean cruises from Port Canaveral, Florida.

Carnival Cruise Line Clarifies Coffee-To-Go Policy Amid Concerns

In a recent flurry of online discussions, Carnival Cruise Line guests feared their beloved coffee to-go was being tossed by the cruise line.

A post circulating on social media suggested that Carnival is planning to eliminate to-go coffee cups in favor of mandatory sit-down consumption at its JavaBlue Café aboard its ships.

In a panicked message to John Heald, the company’s brand ambassador, a frequent Diamond-status passenger asked if the rumors were legit.

“A [moderator] said that baristas will no longer have to-go cups,” the guest wrote. “The Carnival story/rationale – sustainability and to save ships’ water.”

“Who decides this crazy stuff? Does anyone even think it through?” she continued. “I will miss the cozy, welcoming atmosphere of Starbucks when I am on the Vista. Totally disgusted.”

Heald was quick to calm the passenger, saying he’s been receiving a number of “Is it true?” messages.

“The answer is ‘no, of course it isn’t,’” he replied.

He then went on to address the Starbucks comment, adding that he personally thinks Carnival Cruise Line baristas are brilliant.

“How they smile, how they remember your coffee order after only a few days, and how they put up with Mr and Mrs Glitterknickers and their morning grumpy moods is quite amazing to me,” he said.

Hundreds responded to the share post on Heald’s Facebook page, agreeing that JavaBlue’s baristas are above par.

“I had a barista recognize my wife and I from a different ship a year prior,” said one guest. “As I started to order my coffee halfway through, she took over and finished saying what was in my coffee. I am still completely blown away.”

Another went on to say the baristas are wonderful, “Just as good, if not better, than my local coffee spot. Even Starbucks.”

However, one guest pointed out that on a recent sailing, the coffee cups were recycled and expected to be returned for reuse.

“They had run out a few days into our cruise, and we had to wait for cups to be returned before we could order our coffees,” the passenger revealed.

“I do not think it is made clear that these blue cups are to be recycled, as I saw many thrown away.”

Carnival’s Coffee

The cruise line’s ships do serve free coffee in its buffet restaurants, but its specialty coffees require purchase from JavaBlue Café, available on 17 ships, or the Coffee Bar, available on 12.

These premium-branded caffeine hubs offer baked goods and hot and cold drinks, with Lavazza coffee serving as the star. The Italian-based coffee maker has been serving up its artisanal brews since 1895 and can be found worldwide, including on Carnival’s sister line, Princess Cruises.

In order to enjoy the coffeeshop-style coffee without racking up extra fees requires a drink package, such as the Cheers Package. (Carnival doesn’t offer a coffee-only drink package.)

This all-inclusive drink package provides coffee and tea specialties in cafes and main or specialty restaurants, as well as sodas and non-alcoholic drinks, beer and wine by the glass, water bottles, some spirits, and premium beverages like Powerade, Honest Tea, and Rocky Star Energy Drinks.

It’s priced at $82.54 per person, per day, and includes 18 percent gratuities. Anyone purchasing the premium coffees is welcome to take them to-go, despite the rumors.

Guests can also pack their own coffee and, with a little creativity, brew their own in their rooms.

Princess Cruises Reveals 2026-2027 Southeast Asia Itineraries

On March 26, 2025, Princess Cruises announced a diverse range of itineraries for the winter 2026-2027 season in Southeast Asia.

This is the second time the cruise line has extended its schedule in the region, having been originally extended from fall of 2025 through winter of 2026.

The only ship that sails for Princess Cruises in Asia regularly is the 3,100-passenger Diamond Princess, which spent its 2024 winter season in Australia, just having returned to Asia this month (March 2025).

Now, with the new dates being offered from November, 2026 through March, 2027, the ship will be spending the next two years bringing hundreds of thousands of passengers around Asia.

With the new bookings now available for the end of 2026 into early 2027, there are 11 different itineraries to choose from.

These cruises will visit 28 ports in eight different countries, allowing passengers to enjoy the best of what Southeast Asia has to offer.

Now these voyages are definitely for cruise lovers — as they range from 10- to 31-days. Nothing like spending a full month on a ship!

If you are looking for that shorter 10-day itinerary, there is only one available — but do not worry, it does not leave until December 9, 2026.

This one short-ish cruise is round-trip out of Singapore makes stops Vietnam including Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Da Nang, and Ha Long Bay — a UNESCO World Heritage site featuring tall limestone islands surrounded by rainforests.

Ha Long Bay is also one of the stops where the ship will be having a late-night stay, meaning it will be at the port until 9 p.m. or later, giving passengers extra time to explore. Other late-night stays will be available in Hanoi, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Kyoto.

Just like the 10-day cruise, there is only one 31-day cruise available — and it stops just about everywhere you could think of (in Southeast Asia, not Texas).

Diamond Princess will depart from Singapore on February 13, 2027 and will visit six countries at 17 different ports before disembarking in Yokohama, Japan on March 16, 2027.

In total, there will be three stops in Malaysia (Penang, Langkawi, & Klang), five in Vietnam (Nha Trang, Ha Long Bay, Da Nang, & Ho Chi Minh City x2), five in Japan (Ishigaki, Naha, Kochi, Kobe/Osaka, & Yokohama), and one in Singapore, Thailand (Phuket), Hong Kong, and Taiwan (Keelung).

The mid-length 15-day cruise offers the best of both worlds. Departing out of Singapore on March 1, 2027, this cruise offers destinations such as Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and ends with several stops throughout Japan before disembarking on March 16 in Yokohama.

What to Expect When Cruising in Asia

Asia has quickly become a more popular cruising destination, as evidenced by Princess Cruises’ decision to extend their season in the region for the second time.

Diamond Princess was actually built in Japan, so it seems only fitting that the ship’s homeport will be Yokohama, Japan and neighboring Singapore for the next two years.

The ship itself offers authentic Asian dining experiences at its onboard sushi bar Kai Sushi — where guests can also enjoy Japanese-inspired cocktails created by mixologist Rob Floyd, such as a Sake Martini.

Princess Cruises also offers folkloric shows, traditional Izumi baths, regional entertainment, and occasional holiday celebrations to highlight the local cultures while on the ocean.

If this seems of interest to you, but you want to go sooner or even for a shorter amount of time, Princess Cruises will have 50 itineraries to choose from between February and November 2026.

These itineraries range from 28- to just 7 days, and visit 38 destinations in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.

If these itineraries are not exactly what you are looking for, Cunard, Holland America Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Oceania Cruises, and Celebrity Cruises all also offer cruises in Asia, so there is no lack of options!

Carnival Cruise Line Addresses Ghostly Encounters at Sea

Have you ever felt a chill down your spine while cruising the open seas or thought you glimpsed a shadow flitting through your stateroom? You’re not alone.

Recently, a Carnival Cruise Line guest reached out to its Brand Ambassador, John Heald, asking if he or the cruise line have any stories to share about onboard hauntings.

In a message to Heald, the passenger said she and her husband sailed on a P&O Cruises Australia’s Pacific Adventure in February 2025, just before it was absorbed into Carnival Cruise Line’s operations.

The couple, revealing a cabin number that was hidden by Heald so it didn’t scare others away from booking it, said they “absolutely believe this room to be haunted” and wanted to know if others had any experiences.

In typical Heald style, his response was filled with ghastly puns.

“I remember when I was on the Carnival Breeze that myself and a few of the department heads were conducting a séance. We made contact with the founder of a bottled water company. That was probably because we were using a Fiji Board,” he joked.

“Then, later that night, we contacted the long-lost spirit of the first plumber on Carnival Cruise Line’s ship, Mardi Gras,” he added. That was probably because we were using a Luigi Board.”

But Heald got serious and asked other former passengers to share their stories if they had them.

And they did.

Ghost Stories

“Every Carnival cruise I’ve been on, my room has been haunted,” shared a passenger. “You would leave the room, and the towels would magically contort themselves into animals. It was crazy.”

While generating a lot of laughs, many respondents actually experienced real moments that caused the hairs on their arms to stand.

Queen Mary
Queen Mary (Photo Credit: GagliardiPhotography)

One guest said her adjoining cabins on Deck 7 of Carnival Magic were definitely haunted. She said lights flashed, room phones rang, and there was a lot of banging. Even maintenance couldn’t pinpoint what was happening.

Then the real terror happened.

“I was getting dressed and was sitting on the bed. My hubs was on the couch. From behind me, I heard a groan. I looked at my hubs and said, ‘Was that you?’ He said, ‘Nope, that noise came from right behind you,’” she said.

After hightailing it out of there and telling guest services they thought the cabin was haunted, the couple was moved to Deck 9 and didn’t have any further experiences.

Another passenger on the same ship also said his wife had a frightening occurrence. She saw a recently departed person she knew sitting on the bed.

“She first thought it was me. I was asleep next to her,” he wrote.

Plenty more passengers said they’ve had some haunting encounters aboard Cunard Line’s Queen Mary.

The ship, built in 1930 by Carnival Corporation’s Cunard Line and the inspiration for the Queen Mary 2, has long been retired and serves as a hotel in Long Beach, California.

It is also where many Carnival Cruise Line guests book a stay before or after a voyage on Carnival Firenze, which is homeported there.

“That ship definitely has a creepy vibe,” said one about Queen Mary, as another added her two sisters both had ghostly run-ins.

“The one heard screaming that no one else did, and the other saw a person that seemed otherworldly,” she said. “Very eerie!”

It seems most passengers would, surprisingly, welcome a visit from a ghost while sailing with Carnival Cruise Line.

In fact, many people suggested the cruise line host haunted cruises, particularly around Halloween. Sadly, the cruise line doesn’t offer themed voyages, just themed nights.

Carnival Expands Exclusive Live Entertainment Offerings

Already known for featuring an array of live entertainment to keep the fun in its Fun Ships, Carnival Cruise Line has announced it will feature even more shows in 2025.

The Carnival LIVE Spotlight Series is getting expanded to showcase even more singers, including many recognizable faces and voices from popular reality TV shows like NBC’s “The Voice.”

“We’re building on the success of the program thanks to positive guest feedback since its launch,” said the cruise line’s vice president of entertainment, Chris Nelson.

He added, “The best way to exceed our guests’ expectations is to deliver something unexpected.”

Carnival will do so by bringing live, concert-like performances onboard during an extensive entertainment schedule that includes 30 production shows, live music performances, nightly comedy shows, and other activities that will enthrall guests throughout the year.

“Each Carnival LIVE Spotlight Series performance is a great value-add to our industry-leading entertainment,” said Nelson.

Carnival’s announcement is a bit elusive, however. It did not reveal the official lineup that will be featured on select sailings across Carnival Cruise Line’s fleet of 27 ships or even which ships will have the special concerts.

It did tease the new series with an image of “The Voice’s” Omar Cardona, who finished fourth on season 22 under Grammy-winning Coach John Legend’s tutelage.

Cardona, who got his start performing at Disney theme parks in Orlando and aboard a number of cruise vessels sailing from Port Canaveral, has been serenading fans onboard as of late. Most recently he appeared on a 3,646-guest Carnival Dream voyage from Galveston to the Bahamas in November 2024.

Last week, Deejay Young, who appeared on “The Voice” Season 24, posted on his social media that he had spent a week headlining the Carnival LIVE concert series in the Bahamas while aboard the 2,754-passenger Carnival Sunrise, which homeports in Miami.

In the past, even bigger names have popped in for the Carnival LIVE series, including country legends Tim McGraw and Little Big Town and rock-band icons like Foreigner and Styx.

Entertainment Options on Carnival

Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival LIVE series brings concerts onboard its vessels, meaning passengers need to book tickets just as they would a live show on land.

Guests can select from general admission to VIP tickets, ranging in price from $35 to $250, depending on the artist, for a more intimate performance for just over 1,000 guests.

Its VIP offerings often include front-row seats in a ship’s theater, an artist meet-and-greet, and a chance to take a photo with the artist.

But even guests not choosing to book one of these shows can find live music all around Carnival ships – mostly for free.

Performers can be found nightly at the laidback RedFrog Pub, during Lido deck parties, and at the Piano Bar, although the latter is so popular that it requires an additional fee to enjoy.

Additionally, the cruise line features its Playlist Productions for Broadway-style entertainment.

These shows also vary by ship but include “America Rocks” for rock music, “Broadway Beats” for show tunes, and a risqué burlesque show, “Blanc de Blanc.” (Again, the latter comes with an additional cost.)

Carnival cruises also feature comedy shows at the Punchliner Comedy Club, a chance to sing along with other guests at the karaoke club, and music to dance by at the nightclub.

There are also complimentary dive-in movies, a mix of free and ticket-needed game shows like “Family Feud Live” and “Deal or No Deal,” and IMAX films (extra), along with plenty of sports to watch at the SkyBox Sports Bar.

Of course, trivia, Bingo, and games like cornhole and mini-golf round out the fun.

Cruise Ship Reports Outbreak Mostly Affecting Crew Members

Even ultra-luxury cruise lines are susceptible to the dreaded norovirus, the bug that causes gastrointestinal illness and has plagued multiple cruise ships in recent months.

This time it’s Seabourn’s Seabourn Encore, an Odyssey-class ship that launched in 2016 and carries 600 guests and 450 crew members.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the federal agency that tracks onboard illnesses, it is the crew members who are most affected by this recent outbreak. Twenty-two team members, or 5.4% of employees, have reported symptoms while just 7 guests out of a total 461 onboard, 1.5%, have done so.

The presence of norovirus, which can cause diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps, must be reported to the CDC when the percentage of affected people onboard reaches 3%. Following the outbreak, Seabourn Encore staff increased their cleaning and disinfection procedures, isolated impacted guests and crew, and collected specimens for testing.

The ship is currently at sea, headed toward Honolulu, Hawaii, following a port call to Yokohama, Japan on March 20, 2025. She departed from Singapore on March 2, 2025, sailing a 39-night Southeast Asia, Japan & Hawaiian Islands voyage.

Seabourn Encore already had called at ports in Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and several in Japan. Following her visit to Oahu and Kauai, Hawaii, the ship’s itinerary will conclude in Los Angeles on April 9, 2025.

The outbreak was the first to be reported on any Seabourn ship so far this year.

New outbreak confirmations at the CDC also shed light on a recent viral illness reported on Cunard’s Queen Mary 2. The iconic ocean liner revealed there were multiple cases of gastrointestinal illness during her 29-night Eastern Caribbean cruise that sailed roundtrip from Southampton, UK, on March 8, 2025.

During her port call on March 22, 2025 in Barbados, guests not impacted by the bug were asked to go ashore while an intensive cleaning took place across the vessel. Many guests would have had shore tours booked, so the request would not have seemed unreasonable.

Any guests who did not wish to leave the ship were asked to vacate their staterooms and to enable cleaning crews to access those spaces for thorough disinfecting.

The exact number of affected guests and crew was not initially known, but the CDC has now confirmed that 183 of 2,538 guests were impacted, representing 7.2%, and 14 of 1,232 crew members, or 1.1%, reported symptoms.

The current outbreak is at least the third onboard Queen Mary 2 since mid-December. The earlier viral infections also were confirmed as norovirus and happened on back-to-back sailings. The first voyage impacted was a December 21, 2024 departure from New York.

Persistent Norovirus Impacts Ships Across Industry

Norovirus has affected several of the major cruise lines in 2025. Three Holland America Line ships, Eurodam, Rotterdam, and Volendam, all experienced spread of the bug onboard, with Rotterdam having to deal with it twice — once on a February voyage and again in March.
