Carnival Cruise Ship In Trouble With Engine Difficulties

Carnival Panorama has developed engine difficulties that have impacted the ship’s maximum cruising speed, and as a result, two ports of call have been cancelled on her current sailing.

No other onboard systems are impacted, and the ship will still be able to return to Long Beach, California on schedule for debarkation on Saturday, November 11, 2023.

Carnival Panorama Skipping Ports of Call

Guests onboard Carnival Panorama have been notified of an itinerary change that is resulting in two out of three ports of call being cancelled on the ship’s current cruise. The sailing departed Long Beach, California on Saturday, November 4, on what was to have been a 7-night Mexican Riviera itinerary.

The cruise was originally scheduled to visit three popular ports of call – Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán, and Cabo San Lucas. Now, however, two of those stops have been cancelled.

“The ship has developed an issue that is affecting its maximum cruising speed only,” a letter delivered to guests’ staterooms explained. “Regrettably, due to the reduced speed, we will not be able to visit Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlán.”

Carnival Panorama will still call on Cabo San Lucas, but the visit has been changed to Wednesday, November 8 from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. instead of as originally planned on Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The extra 90 minutes in port will give guests slightly more time to explore the vibrant and scenic destination, as it is now the only port of call on the week-long cruise.

It must be noted that the ship’s safety systems and onboard operations, including hotel operations, food and beverage, and entertainment, are not impacted by the technical issue.

Only the ship’s maximum cruising speed of 22.6 knots (26 miles per hour / 42 kilometers per hour) is affected, which changes the distance the vessel can sail and still keep her schedule.

Compensation Offered

All shore excursions purchased through Carnival Cruise Line for Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlán are being automatically cancelled and refunded to guests’ onboard accounts.

The ship’s Shore Excursions team is working with tour operators in Cabo San Lucas to adjust booked tours to Wednesday rather than Thursday, but guests will be notified if such adjustments are not possible.

As compensation for missing ports of call, all staterooms are also being given a $400 onboard credit to use for drinks, specialty dining, spa treatments, or other onboard purchases.

“We apologize for this situation and appreciate your understanding,” the letter, signed by Captain Carlo Queirolo, concludes.

Previous Engine Issues

This is not the first time Carnival Panorama has had engine issues impacting her cruising speed and planned itineraries.

In early June, the ship was delayed returning to Long Beach because of engine issues, which created embarkation delays for the next sailing. Further sailings at that time were also impacted with adjusted itineraries to compensate for the reduced speeds.

Onboard engineers are always able to work to correct technical problems, but occasionally special parts or different expertise may be required for permanent repairs. It is unclear whether or not this current issue with Carnival Panorama is an extension of her earlier difficulties or a new technical problem.

At this time, it is unknown whether or not additional upcoming sailings of the ship may be affected, though guests booked on sailings in the next few weeks will want to stay alert to possible itinerary changes or delays.

Carnival Panorama also experienced very similar issues in August 2021, with adjustments to port visit times and delayed returns to Long Beach. The same types of problems were also noted in December 2022.

The 133,868-gross-ton, Vista-class ship can welcome 4,008 guests at double occupancy, or as many as 5,146 passengers when fully booked. Also onboard are more than 1,400 crew members to ensure that all travelers have a memorable and fun cruise vacation, despite any unexpected difficulties.

Largest-Ever Princess Cruise Ship Out of Texas Begins Sailings

We don’t often hear of Princess Cruises sailing out of Texas, but that will become more common with Regal Princess becoming the largest in the fleet ever to make the Port of Galveston a homeport. The cruise line has now welcomed guests onboard as the vessel kicks off an inaugural season from the port with Western Caribbean voyages.

Regal Princess Debuts in Galveston, Texas

Princess Cruises joins Carnival Cruise Line, Disney, Royal Caribbean International, and Norwegian Cruise Line at the Port of Galveston, with Regal Princess becoming the largest in the fleet to sail from the port. The ship welcomed guests in Texas for the first time on Sunday, November 5, 2023 and held a traditional maritime plaque ceremony onboard to commemorate the occasion.

Princess Cruises Chief Commercial Officer Terry Thornton, who attended the ceremony, said, “We first started sailing out of Galveston nearly 20 years ago. Princess loves Texas and we know Texans enjoy the convenience of having the Love Boat so close by offering a hassle-free drive or convenient fly option to enjoy the beautiful destinations in the Western Caribbean.”

The event was hosted by Celebrations Ambassador Jill Whelan and included a performance by Galveston’s local Ball High School Drill Team, the Tornettes, along with an appearance of the school’s mascot named Tuffy.

Along with Thornton and Whelan, there were other key people in attendance, including the ship’s captain Aldo Traverso and Galveston Wharves Board Vice Chairman Jeff Patterson.

“As we celebrate the arrival of Regal Princess, we extend our deep appreciation to the Port of Galveston for their ongoing partnership, and we’re excited to welcome aboard the only premium cruise experience from Galveston,” said Thornton.

Regal Princess Caribbean Season From Galveston

Regal Princess‘ first sailing from the Lone Star State is 7-night Western Caribbean sailing, featuring stops in Costa Maya, Roatan, and Cozumel before returning to Galveston on Sunday, November 12.

The ship will now offer a series of 21 voyages from Texas, with 7-, 10-, and 11-night itineraries on offer. Depending on the sailing date and cruise length, ports of call may also include Belize City, Belize; George Town, Grand Cayman; and Montego Bay, Jamaica.

“Princess Cruises is an iconic cruise line and we’re delighted to welcome guests from Regal Princess, the largest Love Boat to ever sail from Galveston,” said Rodger Rees, Galveston Wharves port director and CEO.

“Regal Princess will visit beautiful ports throughout the western Caribbean while expanding the array of attractive and enticing cruise vacation choices from Galveston, America’s fourth most popular homeport.”

Of special note is the December 3, 2023 sailing, a themed “Love and Romance Celebration” cruise with Princess Cruises’ Love Ambassador and bridal fashion icon Randy Fenoli. During the cruise there will be special events featuring the bridal icon, including tips for how to choose the right wedding dress and the debut of the “Randy” cocktail.

Regal Princess will leave Galveston on Sunday, March 24, 2024 with a 12-night Caribbean Islander itinerary. The ship will visit Cozumel, Aruba, Curacao, Antigua, and the British Virgin Islands on her way to Fort Lauderdale, where she will arrive on Friday, April 5.

From Fort Lauderdale, the ship will make a transatlantic crossing to Southampton, where she will begin her European summer season sailing the British Isles, Scotland, and France. She will return to Galveston in October 2024 for a second season sailing from Texas.

The 142,229-gross-ton, Royal-class Regal Princess features 19 decks and amazing features, including the glass-floor SeaWalk that extends 28 feet beyond the ship’s edge for thrilling views. The ship also offers spectacular entertainment, including the Watercolor Fantasy Show, live music, and outstanding production shows.

Onboard, guests will also find delicious dining at the Crown Grill, Chef’s Table Lumiere, Alfredo’s Pizzeria and more, as well as pools, hot tubs, the sports court, the just-for-adults Sanctuary, and so much more.

Regal Princess can welcome 3,560 guests per sailing (at double occupancy), and there are over 1,300 crew members onboard to ensure everyone truly gets the Princess treatment.

Carnival Flagship Hosts Largest Ever Casino Slot Tournament

Carnival Celebration hosted the largest ever $1 million casino slot tournament aboard Carnival Cruise Line during the ship’s most recent sailing, awarding impressive prizes to the top 100 players, including grand prize of $500,000. More than 1,600 players participated in the event, and two additional competitions are already planned for 2024 and again in 2025.

Largest Casino Slot Tournament in Carnival History

A total of 1,691 guests aboard the October 29, 2023 departure of Carnival Celebration set casino history as part of the largest ever slot tournament the cruise line has hosted. The $1M Slot Tournament is a popular event for novice slot players and experienced casino guests alike, particularly with amazing prizes awarded.

The top 100 players in the tournament were awarded prizes, and a $500,000 grand prize was presented to the winner, Rhonda Anderson, on Thursday evening, November 2, 2023. The second place winner, Courtney Paschal, was awarded $150,000, while third place winner, Robert Blevins, earned $50,000.

“Carnival has a history as an industry leader with our casinos and our $1M Slot Tournament not only exemplifies that, but it celebrates it,” said Jonathan Lask, Carnival’s vice president of CRM and performance marketing.

“Our onboard casinos bring fun and excitement to our Carnival Players Club members on all our ships, and this week has been a great way to bring many of those valued guests together and amplify the enthusiasm.”

Slot tournaments are a fast-paced, intense competition for guests to rack up the most points or totals, depending on how the competition is organized.

For this record-breaking competition, Carnival Celebration was sailing a 7-night Western Caribbean itinerary that departed Miami, Florida on Sunday, October 29. The ship visited Cozumel and Costa Maya in Mexico as well as Roatan, Honduras during the cruise, along with three days at sea for guests to enjoy not only the casino, but all the other features of the Excel-class ship.

Carnival Celebration is currently the largest ship in the Carnival fleet at 182,521 gross tons, and can welcome 5,282 guests aboard at double occupancy. Also onboard are 1,700 international crew members to ensure everyone feels like a winner – whether they enter the slot tournaments or not.

More Competitions Coming in 2024 and 2025

With the great success of this most recent tournament, Carnival Cruise Line is already planning two $1M Slot Tournaments for 2024 on the cruise line’s other Excel-class ships – the upcoming Carnival Jubilee as well as the first of the Excel-class, Mardi Gras.

The tournament aboard Carnival Jubilee will be during the ship’s May 18, 2024 sailing from Galveston, Texas, a 7-night cruise visiting Roatan, Costa Maya, and Cozumel.

The second $1M Slot Tournament of the year will be aboard Mardi Gras on the ship’s November 2, 2024 sailing from Port Canaveral, Florida. That voyage is a 7-night Eastern Caribbean cruise that will visit Nassau, Amber Cove, and Grand Turk.

Another pair of $1M Slot Tournaments will also be held in 2025, this time aboard Carnival Celebration and Carnival Jubilee. The first will be the May 17, 2025 departure of Carnival Celebration, an 8-night Southern Caribbean itinerary from Miami, Florida with visits to Bonaire, Aruba, and Curacao.

The second of the 2025 tournaments is planned aboard Carnival Jubilee‘s November 1, 2025 sailing, a 7-night Western Caribbean cruise to Roatan, Costa Maya, and Cozumel.

At this time, no large-scale slot tournaments have been announced for other ships in the Carnival fleet, though smaller, individual tournaments are held on many cruises.

For card players, blackjack tournaments are currently planned for Carnival Panorama (May 4, 2024); Carnival Dream (September 7, 2024); and Carnival Magic (October 19, 2024). For each of those events, prizes will total $50,000.

Passenger Overboard During Norwegian Cruise Ship Charter

A somber event cast a shadow on Norwegian Pearl during the Lamb of God Headbangers Boat charter cruise, when a guest went overboard in the early hours of November 3, 2023. The incident unfolded as the ship sailed near the Bahamas, on its way back to Miami, Florida

A search for the missing passenger was quickly initiated. However, after a nine-hour search, the Captain of Norwegian Pearl was forced to cancel the search and rescue mission, and the vessel resumed her course to PortMiami.

Man Overboard Norwegian Pearl

A 41-year-old male went overboard the Norwegian Pearl on Friday, November 3, as the vessel was making her way from Nassau to Port Miami.

The alarming situation was promptly addressed by the ship’s crew as they initiated a search and rescue operation.

A statement released by a spokesperson for Norwegian Cruise Line to Rock Feed read: “On the early morning of Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, Norwegian Pearl was notified that a 41-year-old male guest went overboard while the ship was sailing near the Bahamas on its way to Miami.”

“The authorities have been notified and the United States Coast Guard search and rescue operation is underway. The investigation is ongoing, and we will share updates as appropriate. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this difficult time.”

Norwegian Pearl, a 93,530 gross tons Jewel-class cruise ship with a capacity to accommodate 2,394 guests, set sail from Miami on October 31. The itinerary included a day at sea, a call to Nassau, Bahamas, followed by another day at sea, with a return to Miami scheduled for Saturday, November 4, 2023.

The Headbangers Boat cruise was a special charter voyage, offering a unique blend of heavy metal music with the popular metal band Lamb of God as the headliner. The charter cruise was organized by Sixthman, which is in partnership with Norwegian Cruise Line.

Eyewitness Account

Frank Godla, CEO of MetalSucks and Metal Injection, provided a detailed account of the incident as it unfolded on board the Norwegian Pearl on the MetalSucks website. According to Godla, the vessel made a sharp turn around 3:30 AM, around the time that the passenger went overboard.

Approximately 20 minutes later, the ship’s captain informed the passengers of the distressing news that a guest had gone overboard, initiating a search and rescue mission.

Frank Godla: “Around 3:30 a.m. I was woken up by some really choppy waters and the boat making a hard u-turn that left me wondering what’s going on. Roughly 20 minutes later, the captain made us aware a passenger went overboard and a search and rescue mission has begun.”

By around 6 AM, guests were informed that the scheduled program would be paused until 1 PM.

The search for the missing passenger continued for around nine hours in total, after which the Captain decided to resume course to PortMiami. The inclement weather during the night of November 3, plus the limited visibility, made finding the passenger impossible.

He recalled: “An hour ago, the captain had to make a very sad announcement to all onboard that after 9 hours of searching, they have no choice but to conclude the rescue mission and resume course to Miami.”

Despite the shocking events, guests onboard remained understanding of the situation and appreciated the actions taken by the Captain, the ship’s crew, and the festival organization. Norwegian Cruise Line and the United States Coast Guard are working together to uncover the details of the incident.

Unfortunately, man-overboard situations happen routinely, be it because of foul play, an accident, or because of excessive alcohol abuse. While cruise ships have several safeguards to prevent accidents from happening, and ships perform extensive training on rescue responses, the fact of the matter is that the chances of surviving a fall from a cruise ship while at open sea are slim.

Carnival Cruise Passengers Pull Off Art Heist

Two passengers aboard a Carnival cruise ship swiped a pair of art pieces valued at nearly $13,000, but a search warrant has successfully recovered both small sculptures. While the passengers have not yet been charged with the theft, further legal action could be taken.

Security Footage Shows Art Theft

High-stakes art heists are normally the focus of mystery novels or dramatic films, but a real-life theft took place aboard a Carnival cruise ship just weeks ago.

Two passengers aboard Carnival Legend in late September on a sailing from Baltimore to Bermuda allegedly stole two sculptures from the art gallery, removing them from the ship without authorization. The individuals did not bid in an onboard art auction or otherwise purchase the artwork.

Court documents for a search warrant were filed on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 in federal court in Baltimore, Maryland. With that warrant, agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted an appropriate search and recovered the missing sculptures.

According to ABC News, security footage from the cruise ship was instrumental in recognizing the theft and identifying the individuals involved, a man and a woman. One of the ship’s onboard art auctioneers had noticed the sculptures were missing on Sunday, October 1, the day after the ship had returned from its previous sailing.

Security footage was reviewed and showed two individuals enter the ship’s art gallery empty-handed on September 29 at approximately 2 a.m., then leave several minutes later carrying items “consistent in appearance with the missing sculptures,” according to the filed court documents.

The individuals were then identified, and one person’s appearance was correlated with a recent social media account photo that seemed to show the same distinctive attire as seen in the surveillance footage.

Though the sculptures have been recovered, the two individuals’ names have not been released because federal charges of theft and transportation of stolen goods may yet be filed.

About the Stolen Sculptures

Cruise ships have a wide range of artwork onboard, ranging from stunning paintings and prints to sculptures of all sizes and styles. The two sculptures that were stolen are both acrylic pieces.

One is by artist Robert Wyland depicting two sea turtles facing one another, titled “Kiss the Sea” with wave-like formations at the base. The limited edition piece, crafted in 2019, measures 13 5/8″ by 14 3/8″ by 4 1/4″, and has Wyland’s hand-engraved signature. Wyland has done several similar pieces depicting dolphins, whales, and even mermaids. Court documents set the value of the piece at $6,200.

Wyland’s artwork is especially familiar to cruise travelers, as the artist created the hull art for Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Bliss with a similar ocean life motif.

The second stolen – now recovered – piece is by artist Marcus Glenn and is titled “Tappin’ the Keys for Love.” Similar in materials to Wyland’s sculpture, this piece shows a man playing a piano keyboard with a red heart in the background. Music motifs are common in Glenn’s work, and this piece is valued at $6,600.

Art auctions onboard all Carnival cruise ships are conducted by Park West Gallery. Paintings, sculptures, lithographs, autographed items, and other special pieces are often included, though the collections vary on different ships and different sailings. Collections may also be curated to the sailing region to generate even more interest, such as works depicting Alaska on Alaska cruises.

In addition to Carnival Cruise Line, Park West Gallery also handles art auctions on more than 90 ships worldwide, including aboard Celebrity Cruises, Holland America Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean International, and Princess Cruises.

Iconic Cruise Line Will Stop Homeporting in Australia

Just as this year’s Australia cruise season is heating up, Cunard Line has announced that it will have no Australia-based ships in the region from 2026 onward.

Guests will still be able to sail Down Under with the iconic cruise line after the 2024-2025 season, but only on select segments of world voyages.

Cunard Line Leaving Australia

Cunard Line has homeported the 90,901-gross-ton, Vista-class Queen Elizabeth seasonally in Australia since late 2019. Despite a lengthy hiatus during the industry-wide pandemic shutdown, the ship has remained popular for her Down Under itineraries.

In fact, the ship is already underway toward her 2023-2024 season in Australia, having left Barcelona on Monday, October 23 on a 35-night voyage that will end in Fremantle, Australia on Monday, November 27 by way of the Mediterranean, the Suez Canal, India, Singapore, and Indonesia.

“We know that many guests in Australia and Japan love to sail with Cunard and Queen Elizabeth is already on her way to Australia to begin her 2023/2024 homeport season starting 27 November,” said Matt Gleaves, Commercial Vice President of North America & Australasia for Cunard Line.

This season, the iconic ship will offer a range of itineraries departing from Fremantle, Melbourne, and Sydney through mid-March, visiting top destinations like Tasmania, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Fiji, New Zealand, and of course a variety of destinations in Australia.

Queen Elizabeth will also offer exclusive Australia sailings in 2024-2025, but after that point, will be repositioned elsewhere.

“The ship will also return for her scheduled 2024/2025 season,” Gleaves confirmed. “From 2026 there will be no locally based program.”

Instead of returning to Australia, Queen Elizabeth will be based in the Caribbean for the winter seasons, offering tropical destinations from North America homeports and strengthening the cruise line’s presence in that popular market. In the summer, the ship will offer Alaska itineraries.

No detailed explanation for the deployment shift has been given, but it is not unusual for cruise lines to regularly adjust where ships are based. Bringing a ship to a new market or deployment region can spark interest from new travelers, as well as continue to engage loyal guests who are interested in new destinations.

Sailing to Australia With Cunard Line

Not to worry, travelers loyal to Cunard Line will still be able to visit Australia and New Zealand, but only on special sailings.

“Australia and Asia will remain important destinations on our round-the-world voyages and we look forward to welcoming guests from these regions wherever they chose to sail with us,” said Gleaves.

Cunard Line offers spectacular global journeys visiting amazing ports of call on different continents, including “World Voyages” and “Grand Voyages” that are more extensive itineraries with unique destinations.

World Cruises are typically longer than 100 nights, while Grand Voyages are often shorter segments of 20-40 nights, though exact lengths vary for each sailing depending on the vessel and where she is sailing at the time.

Itineraries for 2026 and beyond have not yet been released, but are sure to include segments in Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific.

New Options for Cunard Line

The news about Queen Elizabeth‘s future deployment comes as the cruise line is preparing for its first new vessel in 14 years. The highly-anticipated Queen Anne is scheduled to debut in May 2024, sailing from Southampton with itineraries around the British Isles, to the Canary Islands, into the Mediterranean, to Iceland, and along Northern Europe.

More From Cruise Hive

This will bring new experiences and amazing new opportunities for Cunard travelers and cruise lovers to explore on the new and innovative vessel.

Queen Anne will also visit Australia and New Zealand during her 107-night Maiden World Voyage, leaving Southampton on Thursday, January 9, 2025. By mid-February, Queen Anne will be sailing in the South Pacific for the first time, with her inaugural call to Sydney, Australia on February 28.

Carnival Cruise Line Creates Special Drink in Honor of Veterans

In the run-up to Veterans Day, Carnival Cruise Line is brewing up a special drink in honor of active military members as well as veterans of the US armed forces. Its new pale ale will be offered to guests on the cruise line’s five ships that have onboard breweries, and will help support many other veterans and military members onshore as well.

Special Pale Ale to Debut on Veterans Day

Carnival Cruise Line is expanding its Homeport Tributes to Veterans project rolled out on November 1, 2023 with a specially-brewed Heroes American Pale Ale that will debut on November 11, Veterans Day.

The new pale ale will be available on tap aboard Carnival Vista, Carnival Horizon, Carnival Panorama, Carnival Celebration and Mardi Gras, as each of these vessels has their own onboard brewery.

The cruise line will donate $1 for each pint glass poured for guests onboard the five ships as contributions to Operation Homefront, the nonprofit group that provides relief and recurring family support programs and services to the military community.

After the Veterans Day launch, the brew will be offered year-round on all five ships. Of special note is that the brew actually has connections to military members.

Carnival Cruise Line Heroes Lounge

“Our new Heroes American Pale Ale is special because it’s made with hops chosen by veterans themselves,” said Zachary Sulkes, senior director of beverage operations at Carnival Cruise Line.

“Our hops supplier collaborates with military veteran brewers across the country for their annual Veterans Blend. Incorporating this special hop blend into our new pale ale celebrates veterans and complements our growing selection of exclusive beers that are popular with our guests.”

Along with Carnival Cruise Line’s $1 donation for each pint of the new pale ale poured, it also is donating the same amount for each of the line’s Heroes souvenir pint glasses sold at the Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge, which is available on seven of the line’s ships.

Carnival Cruise Line is now adding those souvenir glasses to bars across the fleet, enabling guests on any of its vessels to participate in donating to Operation Homefront.

Six Ships to Honor Veterans With Special Tributes

The new brew ties in with Carnival Cruise Line’s Homeport Tributes to Veterans program, which is a weeklong series of appreciation events happening at six of the cruise line’s homeports starting on November 5, 2023.

Under the program, hundreds of veterans at each of the six ports will be honored aboard the Carnival Cruise Line vessels based at each participating port. Events will feature special ceremonies of recognition and lunch for all attendees.

The events kick off onboard Carnival Horizon, home-ported in Miami, and Carnival Paradise at her homeport of Tampa, Florida, on November 5, 2023 and continue aboard four other ships in four other homeports through to Veterans Day.

Cruise Line Welcomes The Most Military Guests

Carnival proudly welcomes more active and retired military members than any other cruise line in the world, and embraces the demographic with a special and meaningful event on every cruise itinerary.

In July 2023, Carnival Cruise Line added a Military Appreciation Day aboard all ships in its fleet, replacing what had been called a Military Appreciation Gathering. The new event offers enhancements such as special messages to guests who are part of the military community and information offered to all guests about Operation Homefront and the wonderful work it does.

As part of its new partnership with Operation Homefront, the cruise line aso began processing guest donations to the group via their Sail & Sign cards in July.

About Carnival Breweries

Carnival Cruise Line’s breweries that operate onboard five of its ships all have proven very popular with guests, but the first ship to offer the venue was Carnival Vista, when she debuted in 2016.

The line had partnered with Miami-based Concrete Beach Brewery to provide a choice of three hand-crafted beers —ThirstyFrog Port Hoppin’ IPA, ThirstyFrog Caribbean Wheat, and FriskyFrog Java Stout.

The new introduction of Heroes American Pale Ale adds another exclusive beverage to the lineup – what will Carnival be brewing up next?

Royal Caribbean Australia Fleet Complete as Season Begins

Royal Caribbean International’s third ship to sail Australian waters this summer has arrived as Ovation of the Seas completes the Down Under fleet for the 2023-2024 season. More Royal Caribbean ships with more capacity than ever before are sailing in the region, offering tens of thousands of guests outstanding options for amazing oceangoing holidays.

Ovation of the Seas Arrives in Sydney

The 168,666-gross-ton, Quantum-class Ovation of the Seas arrived in Sydney, Australia on Friday, November 3, 2023 to begin her summer season in the South Pacific. This completes Royal Caribbean’s lineup of three vessels in the region this summer, as Ovation of the Seas joins two other ships whose summer seasons have already begun.

“Ovation of the Seas’ sixth season in Sydney’s iconic harbour underscores just how much Australians are seeking a holiday that has experiences for everyone in the family and all ages,” said Gavin Smith, vice president and managing director, Australia and New Zealand, Royal Caribbean International.

Brilliance of the Seas was the first ship to arrive, debuting in Sydney on October 22 for her first-ever season in Australia and New Zealand. Quantum of the Seas (sister ship to Ovation of the Seas) arrived several days later on October 28, and is now offering sailings from Brisbane.

“It’s exciting to see all of our three award-winning holidays now in Australian waters for what is Royal Caribbean’s biggest and best season yet!” said Smith.

In total, Royal Caribbean will host more than 250,000 travelers on the three ships during the Australia season, with 90,000 setting sail on Ovation of the Seas alone. These numbers are 30% higher than the cruise line’s bookings in the region for the 2022-2023 season.

All three vessels will remain in Australia into April 2024, at which time the ships will all undertake transpacific sailings to return to North America for the Alaska sailing season.
