Fire Aboard Cruise Ship, Passengers Evacuate Cabins

At approximately 3:30 a.m. local time on the morning of Sunday, May 28, 2023, a fire broke out aboard P&O Cruises Australia’s Pacific Adventure and orders were given for passengers to evacuate their staterooms and assemble at their muster stations.

At the time, the ship was underway off the coast of Sydney, Australia, having just departed on a 3-night “Comedy Cruise” sailing with no scheduled ports of call.

Fire on Pacific Adventure Balcony

The fire engulfed one of Pacific Adventure‘s balconies and appeared to have been spreading before it was contained and eventually safely extinguished. No injuries have been reported from the incident.

“This fire activated our emergency response procedures including a full muster of guests and crew and we thank everyone on board for their cooperation,” a spokesperson for P&O Cruises said in a statement.

Passengers onboard were called to their muster stations with their lifejackets, and waited in appropriate gathering places for updates until the all-clear was given.

Some passengers reported smelling smoke in the hallways, and dramatic video from local news stations shows the balcony stateroom aglow with the blaze.

The fire was safely extinguished by the ship’s fire response team, with no injuries reported. At about 5 a.m., the emergency was declared over and guests were permitted to return to their staterooms.

In total, four cabins onboard the ship were damaged, but the overall extent of the damage is not yet determined, nor is the initial cause of the blaze.

“The extent of the damage and the cause of the fire are yet to be fully determined and remain under investigation,” the cruise line’s statement continued.

Itinerary Unaffected

Pacific Adventure had left Sydney just 12 hours earlier to begin a 3-night “Comedy Cruise” with no scheduled ports of call. The itinerary is continuing without impact, and the ship is scheduled to return to Sydney on Tuesday, May 30.

It is not known if the next cruise, a 10-night roundtrip “Discover Vanuatu” sailing, will be impacted. That cruise is scheduled to call at ports in New Caledonia as well as Vanuatu.

The 109,000-gross-ton Pacific Adventure is a Grand-class ship that formerly sailed as Golden Princess for Princess Cruises, but joined P&O Cruises Australia in 2021 to become Pacific Adventure.

The ship can welcome 2,600 guests at double occupancy, but is reported to have been sailing with just over 3,100 passengers on the current sailing, with extra berths filled for the short holiday. More than 1,000 crew members were also aboard at the time of the fire.

Fires Onboard Cruise Ships

Fire is the gravest threat aboard any cruise ship, and while thousands of cruises set sail every year without such hazards, these dangerous situations do happen on rare occasions.

In February 2023, a fire broke out aboard Viking Cruises’ Viking Orion while the ship was docked in Sydney, Australia, with three cabins damaged. Preliminary reports indicate that fire may have been caused by a “corded device” and there were no injuries, thanks to the crew’s quick response to contain and extinguish the fire.

In November 2022, a small fire aboard Disney Wonder was caused by an electrical short from a speaker system, and two decks were partially evacuated while the fire was extinguished and safety inspections were performed.

The most spectacular cruise ship fire in recent years was aboard Carnival Freedom, when the ship’s iconic “whale tale” funnel caught fire in May 2022 while the ship was docked in Grand Turk. No injuries were reported, and while the ship was repaired, it has not yet received its new whale tale.

Cruise ship fires with guests aboard are rare, but construction fires are far more common as shipyard incidents can happen when heavy equipment is used around combustible materials. The upcoming and highly-anticipated Icon of the Seas even had a small fire in February 2023, which caused minor damage to a stairway.

Cruise ship fire brigades are highly trained, expert firefighters that excel with at-sea emergencies, with continual training and drills to ensure the safest possible conditions for everyone aboard in case of any fire emergency.

Carnival Ship Delayed Due to Severe Weather, Strong Winds

Carnival Sunshine, due to return to Charleston, South Carolina on Saturday, May 27, 2023, has been delayed due to severe weather. The ship is currently off the South Carolina coast and holding position, unable to return to the port because of high winds and rough seas.

Guests planning to board Carnival Sunshine today have been advised to wait before proceeding to the port for embarkation, and Carnival Cruise Line is providing regular updates about the weather conditions and how they impact the ship.

Carnival Sunshine Delayed

Carnival Cruise Line has reached out to guests booked to set sail aboard Carnival Sunshine today with news that their cruise will be delayed due to poor weather that makes proceeding into the port unsafe.

The first update was sent via text message on Friday evening, advising of the situation and alerting guests that there might be delays.

“The ship is experiencing adverse weather conditions sailing back to Charleston and may arrive later than scheduled tomorrow,” the text read.

Carnival Sunshine is concluding a 6-night roundtrip Bahamas cruise, which departed Charleston on Sunday, May 21, and enjoyed visits to Nassau, Bimini, and Half Moon Cay. The ship was to have arrived back in Charleston by 8 a.m. on Saturday morning, but as of 10 a.m. tracking data shows the ship still well offshore.

Carnival Cruise Line brand ambassador John Heald has also helped alert cruisers to the situation.

“Ship went through some bad weather and rough seas, and that bad weather is still in the Charleston area which has stopped the ship from entering the port,” Heald said. “We are asking guests to sign up for text alerts … to stay updated.”

A second update at 8 a.m. Saturday morning informed guests that the ship continued to be delayed until weather conditions improve.

“For now, [the ship] is waiting at the entrance to the channel for conditions to improve,” the text read.

It is unknown when the weather may clear enough for the ship to safely proceed, but the cruise line’s Fleet Operations Center in Miami and local partners in Charleston are continually monitoring the situation.

Onboard Carnival Sunshine

Guests currently onboard the ship have reported rough conditions through the night, including strong rolling and waves as is typical when a cruise ship is navigating through challenging weather. They were notified on Friday evening that the Saturday morning docking would likely be delayed.

Access to the outer decks of the ship has been restricted due to high winds and slippery conditions, and crew members are taking all necessary precautions to keep everyone aboard safe and as comfortable as possible.

The 102,853-gross-ton Carnival Sunshine (formerly Carnival Destiny) is the only cruise ship currently homeported from Charleston, though other vessel occasionally make port of call visits to the southern city. On Saturday, no other ships are due in the port.

Weather System off the Southeastern US

The severe weather impacting Carnival Sunshine is a non-tropical low pressure system located about 150 miles (241 kilometers) south of Charleston, causing heavy rain and strong winds.

The system is not expected to develop into tropical strength but is being monitored by the National Hurricane Center, and the wind patterns are cyclonic in nature.

As of 10 a.m., wind gusts just outside Charleston Harbor are ranging from 30-36 knots (34-42 miles per hour / 55-67 kilometers per hour).

The National Weather Service has also issued a wind advisory for the region through 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon, predicting winds from 20-25 miles per hour (32-40 kilometers per hour), with gusts as high as 45 mph (72 kph).

Unprecedented Three-Year Voyage Hangs In the Balance

Many have been eagerly following the much-hyped three-year world cruise by Miray Cruises’ MV Gemini. Guests are already booked onboard, some of whom even sold their house to join the cruise. However, tension is growing as concerns regarding the ship’s seaworthiness come to light.

With multiple refund requests, the departure of the founding team, and ongoing questions about safety onboard, the future of this unprecedented three-year voyage hangs in the balance.

MV Gemini‘s Three-Year Cruise Hangs in the Balance

A three-year voyage, organized by Miray Cruises’ subsidiary Life at Sea, would offer an unmatched cruise that few could resist. Scheduled to begin in Istanbul in November, the cruise on board the MV Gemini would span a staggering 130,000 miles

Over three years, guests would have the unique opportunity to experience 375 ports in 135 different countries across all seven continents. The voyage, tailored towards working professionals, would offer remote work facilities coupled with global exploration. Life at Sea also promised world-class dining, onboard entertainment, recreational activities, and a comprehensive business center.

However, a report from CNN International indicates that the cruise could be in jeopardy. Customers who had booked the trip are now requesting refunds following concerns about the suitability and seaworthiness of the MV Gemini.

MV Gemini‘s Seaworthiness Questioned

According to the International Maritime Organization, a ship is considered seaworthy when it is adequately equipped and maintained to face the conditions of the intended voyage without presenting an unreasonable risk to the crew or the marine environment.

Per the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) convention, ships must have a valid Passenger Ship Safety Certificate to validate their seaworthiness.

Miray Cruises' Three-Year World Cruise

Irina Strembitsky, former director of sales and marketing of Life at Sea Cruises: “The ship, which has capacity for up to 1,074 passengers, was deemed ‘unseaworthy’ by an engineer, who also expressed doubt that it would be able to complete a three-year journey.”

In the context of the MV Gemini, the SOLAS Convention, and the Passenger Ship Safety Certificate are highly relevant. If claims about the vessel’s unseaworthiness prove to be accurate, the ship might have violated SOLAS provisions, possibly risking the lives of those onboard.

Kendra Holmes, Director of business development and commercial operations at Miray International: “Unseaworthy is a very specific term that relates to the safety of a vessel. With that said, every cruise ship must have a Passenger Ship Safety Certificate… Gemini has this certificate, and it will be renewed again at the end of July 2023.”

Internal Disagreements and Customer Concerns

Mike Petterson, the former managing director for Life at Sea Cruises, a subsidiary of Miray Cruises, and the rest of the founding team have removed themselves from the project, raising significant concerns.

Of note is that the vessel has not been classified as unseaworthy by the flag state or port state control but rather by an engineer who had stated that the ship was not suitable to sail. It seems unlikely that an entire management team would jump ship over the claims of one engineer.

Miray Cruises' Three-Year World Cruise

It could point towards other serious issues, such as the viability of a three-year cruise, at extremely low pricing of just $2,500 per stateroom per month.

The impact of internal disagreements extends to the customers, many of whom have made significant financial commitments to join the voyage. CNN reports that some customers had even sold their homes in preparation for the trip, and many are now requesting refunds.

Despite the turmoil, Miray Cruises remains committed to pushing forward with its ambitious project, even without Life at Sea. The updated 19,093 gross tons MV Gemini has been sailing around the Mediterranean since March 2023. The vessel was built in 1992.

All eyes are now on Miray Cruises and seeing how they navigate these turbulent waters. Unfortunately for the cruise line, many guests have already figured out that the current situation is too much adventure for even the most adventurous.

Norwegian Cruise Line’s Transatlantic Voyage Did Not Go as Planned

As a wave of harsh weather continues to disrupt cruises around Iceland, Norwegian Prima becomes the latest vessel to alter its course. Following in the wake of the Sky Princess, which saw four ports cancelled in Iceland in the past week, Norwegian Prima was forced to revise its voyage plans, leaving guests with altered itineraries.

Due to arrive in Reykjavik on May 24, the ship made it to its homeport on May 25. Norwegian Cruise Line issued a letter to guests onboard, apologizing for the inconvenience caused, and has offered compensation in the form of a Future Cruise Credit (FCC).

Norwegian Prima Cancels Two Ports Due to Bad Weather

Springtime doesn’t necessarily mean good weather in the North Atlantic, as thousands of cruise ship passengers have found out over the last few days. The latest ship to be affected is Norwegian Cruise Line’s flagship, Norwegian Prima.

The cruise ship set sail on a transatlantic voyage on May 14 from New York City. The itinerary was designed to provide guests with an extensive exploration of the North Atlantic, stopping at Halifax and Sydney in Nova Scotia before reaching Iceland.

After the vessel missed a call in Isafjordur due to weather conditions on May 23, NCL notified passengers onboard Norwegian Prima of more itinerary changes, citing weather conditions as the catalyst.

Originally scheduled to make port calls at Isafjordur on May 23 and Reykjavik on May 24 and 25, the 142,500 gross tons cruise ship with a capacity of 3,219 guests found itself in a holding pattern for most of May 24 and the early hours of May 25.

However, the ship eventually reached its destination in Reykjavik, docking at 3 AM today, May 25. Recognizing the inconvenience, NCL issued a formal apology to its guests, emphasizing its commitment to guest safety. The company’s leadership expressed their shared disappointment, stating:

“We appreciate your patience over the last few days, as we navigated through some inclement weather, which unfortunately impacted the original itinerary. However, as always, your safety and that of our crew is our number one priority… We apologize for any inconvenience these changes may have caused and share your disappointment.”

The cruise line also announced it would extend a 25% discount as a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) for passengers to rebook their cruise, adding a 50% FCC for those who choose to sail on any of NCL’s European voyages in 2023.

Weather Forecast for Upcoming Norwegian Prima Cruise

As Norwegian Prima prepares for its next cruise, departing on May 25, 2023, out of Reykjavik, weather forecasts indicate smooth sailing towards Isafjordur and Akureyri.

However, the outlook is less promising for the ship’s crossing to Alesund in Norway, with wave heights potentially reaching up to 20 feet. The prospect of bad weather raises the possibility of Norwegian Prima staying overnight from May 25 to 26 rather than the original plan of May 24 to 25.

These weather-induced disruptions highlight the unpredictable nature of cruising in the North Atlantic, especially around Iceland. However, they also underscore the importance of cruise lines prioritizing the safety of passengers and crew members, particularly in dangerous areas such as the North Atlantic.

This series of events mirrors the recent disruption of Sky Princess‘s voyage, which had its itinerary significantly altered due to similar weather conditions. The 145,281 gross ton Royal-class ship, housing 3,660 guests, had to cancel four of its stops in Iceland, much to the disappointment of those onboard.

Following the conclusion of a season sailing in the United States, Norwegian Prima will now operate in Europe for the summer, sailing from several different homeports, including Reykjavik, Southampton, Barcelona, and Civitavecchia.

New MSC Ship to Sail on First-Ever Net Zero Emissions Voyage

As the world moves towards a more sustainable future, the cruise industry is no exception. The industry has been under scrutiny for its environmental impact for years, and now, a significant step forward is on the horizon.

MSC Euribia, the latest addition to MSC Cruises’ fleet, is set to sail on the first net zero greenhouse gas emissions voyage in the history of the cruise industry, demonstrating a powerful commitment to environmental sustainability.

Setting Sail with Environmental Pioneering

On June 3, MSC Euribia will leave the shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, marking the beginning of the industry’s first-ever net zero emissions voyage, a major goal for the entire cruise industry.

The vessel, which runs on liquefied natural gas (LNG), will sail for four days, arriving for her naming ceremony in Copenhagen, Denmark, on June 7. With this journey, MSC Cruises aims to show that net-zero cruising is not a distant dream but a viable reality.

“This industry-first net zero gas emissions voyage of our latest flagship MSC Euribia heralds another significant step on our decarbonization journey and demonstrates more than anything the extent of our commitment,” said Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of the Cruise Division of MSC Group.

As part of their commitment to sustainable cruising, MSC Cruises has purchased 400 tonnes of bio-LNG, highlighting the importance of alternative fuels in the journey towards decarbonization.

This purchase makes MSC Cruises the first ocean cruise operator to use bio-LNG, a fuel source that significantly reduces emissions.

Vago added: “We cannot do this alone, however. Given the absolute importance of alternative fuels for our industry as well as for other sectors across civil society to achieve decarbonization, we all need to work together to increase their availability at scale.

“Our purchase of bio-LNG will send a clear and meaningful signal to the market that there is demand from cruise lines and the broader maritime industry for cleaner fuels, but we need governments, producers, and end-users to collaborate and scale-up the availability of these much-needed and new sources of power.”

First World Class Cruise Ship

Construction of MSC Euribia, which measures 181,541 gross tons and can accommodate up to 6,334 passengers when fully booked, started on June 28, 2021, at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in St. Nazaire, France. The ship is named after the Greek goddess Eurybia, renowned for her mastery of the seas.

MSC Euribia will be one of three LNG-powered ships in the MSC fleet, with MSC World Europa and MSC World America. It brings the cruise line on par with competitor Carnival Cruise Line which also operates three LNG-powered cruise ships.

“MSC Euribia’s first voyage will be an incredible feat and represents years of commitment and determination. It should prove that we have the capability to operate on a net zero greenhouse gas emissions basis with existing ship technology,” said Michele Francioni, SVP, MSC Cruise

This clean fuel choice, coupled with other environmental technologies such as a selective catalytic reduction system, an advanced wastewater treatment system, and an underwater radiated noise management system, shows MSC’s intention to reduce the environmental impact of its operations significantly.

Inaugural Voyage

MSC Euribia, part of the Meraviglia-plus class along with her sister ships MSC Grandiosa and MSC Virtuosa, is set to be christened during a naming ceremony in Copenhagen, Denmark, on June 8, 2023. The event will be led by Hollywood icon and Oscar-winning actress Sophia Loren.

Following the naming ceremony, the vessel will embark on her inaugural voyage, a 7-night roundtrip sailing from Kiel, Germany. She will call on Copenhagen and three ports in Norway,  Hellesylt, Alesund, and Flam, before sailing to Kiel in Germany.

MSC Euribia will continue to offer northern European sailings through at least October 2024. Besides Kiel and Copenhagen, the ship also offers cruises from Rotterdam, The Netherlands; Southampton in the UK, and Hamburg, Germany.

Video Shows Cruise Ship Passenger Evacuation 100 Miles From Land

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) has released dramatic onboard video footage of a recent medical evacuation from Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Eclipse, showing just how helicopter assets approach a cruise ship and handle the evacuation procedure.

Medical evacuations occur for a number of reasons and can be assisted by pier personnel, pilot boats, or aircraft as needed for the situation and the ship’s proximity to land.

Medical Evacuation From Celebrity Eclipse

On Friday, May 19, 2023, a USCG Aircrew from Air Station Astoria was dispatched for a medical evacuation from Celebrity Eclipse, at a time when the Solstice-class cruise ship was approximately 100 miles (160 kilometers) off the northern Oregon coast.

At the time, Celebrity Eclipse was spending a day at sea as part of its repositioning cruise from Honolulu to Vancouver, following the first part of the overall seasonal repositioning from Sydney, Australia to Vancouver.

Coast Guard Cruise Ship Evacuation
Coast Guard Cruise Ship Evacuation (Courtesy: US Coast Guard Pacific Northwest)

The Honolulu to Vancouver portion of the repositioning was a 12-night sailing, calling at four Hawaiian ports before spending five days at sea prior to arriving first in Victoria, British Columbia and then, on May 21, arriving in Vancouver.

The day of the rescue was the fifth day at sea as the ship headed toward Victoria.

A male guest onboard was experiencing stroke-like symptoms when the medical evacuation was requested, and a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was dispatched for the operation.

The video shows the helicopter approaching the in-motion cruise ship and hovering over the bow where the helipad is located. A gurney is lowered to the vessel, which was then used to hoist up the passenger for evacuation.

The helicopter was not able to land on the ship, because the size and weight of the MH-60 Jayhawk is too great for the structure of the ship to safely support.

The MH-60 Jayhawk is a Sikorsky design for all weather, medium range missions, with an overall range of 700 nautical miles (805 miles / 1,296 kilometers). There are currently more than 40 such helicopters in the USCG air fleet.

The helicopter’s exterior length is approximately 65 feet (19.8 meters), with an empty weight of 14,500 pounds (6,580 kilograms).

Coast Guard Cruise Ship Evacuation

After being evacuated from the ship, the cruise guest was taken to Warrenton, Oregon – just across Youngs Bay from Astoria – to be transferred to a Life Flight aircrew, which then transported him to OHSU Hospital in Portland, which is one of the highest ranked hospitals in the United States for treatment of strokes (rankings by US News & World Report).

In order to safeguard the guest’s privacy, no further information about his condition or his traveling party has been released, and the remainder of Celebrity Eclipse‘s itinerary was unaffected.

Dramatic Rescues Recently

The US Coast Guard stands ready to assist with medical cruise ship evacuations whenever necessary, and there have been several dramatic rescues in recent weeks.

Earlier this month, the same type of helicopter nearly crashed while attempting a medical evacuation from Carnival Dream. During that incident, a sudden squall blue up and the helicopter had to abandon its efforts, though a second crew later completed the evacuation successfully.

Carnival Dream Rescue
Carnival Dream Rescue

On another busy weekend, Coast Guard Air Station San Diego made three separate evacuations from three different cruise ships, all within a 24-hour period.

Medical evacuations do happen regularly from cruise ships, but the reasons vary. Most often, the incidents involve life-threatening conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, injuries that the cruise ship’s medical center may be unable to successfully treat, or conditions that may require surgery or long-term treatment unavailable onboard.

Sometimes, the incidents are unusual, like the guest who was evacuated from Carnival Dream earlier this month for ingesting a battery.

The USCG and related emergency personnel on land, onboard cruise ships, and manning evacuation transportation are all highly trained and dedicated, and perform their duties expertly to preserve the lives and safety of everyone needing their services, no matter what the situation.

Norwegian Cruise Line Cancels Full Season for Another Ship

Norwegian Cruise Line has reached out to guests booked aboard Norwegian Epic from December 1, 2023 through April 9, 2024, to inform them that all of the ship’s sailings within that time frame have been cancelled.

Guests are being offered various refunds and future discounts for the disruption to their travel plans.

Norwegian Epic European Cruises Cancelled

An email sent to booked guests and travel partners has announced the cancellation of more than four months of sailings for Norwegian Epic, with 11 total sailings impacted.

“As a result of a fleet redeployment, Norwegian Epic’s sailings from December 1, 2023, through and including April 9, 2024, have been canceled,” the email read.

The affected cruises include various departures from Rome, Haifa, Trieste, and Lisbon. These longer Mediterranean sailings – ranging from 10-14 nights – were to have visited outstanding ports in Italy, Greece, Turkey, Israel, Croatia, Portugal, Morocco, Spain, the Canary Islands, and many more destinations.

“We understand the desire to travel now more than ever, so we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” the email continued.

Refunds and Discounts Offered

All impacted guests will receive a full refund automatically returned to the original form of payment. With so many refunds – Norwegian Epic can welcome as many as 4,100 guests per sailing at double occupancy, which could mean up to 20,000-45,000 refunds – it may take up to 30 days for refunds to be processed.

If guests paid for their now-cancelled cruise with a future cruise credit (FCC), the FCC will be returned back to their Latitudes loyalty account automatically within 10 days.

As further compensation, Norwegian Cruise Line is also offering guests a 20% discount for any European sailing through and including April 30, 2024 departures. This can be a great deal to rebook a similar sailing on a different Norwegian ship, with plenty of extra time to make vacation plans.

All guests will also receive an additional 10% discount as an FCC for any future voyage for sailings through and including December 31, 2024. This 10% discount can be used in any sailing region, but may not be combined with the 20% European sailing discount.

“We sincerely appreciate your understanding and look forward to welcoming you aboard very soon,” the email concludes.

Plans for Norwegian Epic

While 4.5 months of European cruises are being cancelled, Norwegian Cruise Line has not yet announced where Norwegian Epic will be sailing in the meantime.

The email indicates “a fleet redeployment” but does not indicate what that may be. It is likely the vessel will instead sail in popular winter destinations, such as offering Caribbean itineraries, or could even be redeployed to Australia or New Zealand during that region’s summer sailing season.

There is no mention of any dry dock or refurbishment plans that would remove the ship from service. Nor are these cancellations apparently the result of full ship charters, as is the case with the cancellation of much of the 2024 Alaska sailing season for Norwegian Spirit, which was just announced a few days ago.

Norwegian Epic is currently scheduled to resume Mediterranean cruises from April 19, 2024, with a 10-night roundtrip Greek Isles sailing from Rome, calling on such amazing ports as Santorini, Athens, Mykonos, and Corfu in Greece, as well as additional ports of call in Malta and Italy.

The ship will remain homeported from Rome (Civitavecchia) through early November 2024, when she will reposition to Port Canaveral to offer 7-night cruises that include Norwegian Cruise Line’s private island in The Bahamas, Great Stirrup Cay.

In April 2025, Norwegian Epic will return to Rome for another season of Greek Isles sailings.

Disney Cruise Line Details Anniversary Fireworks Shows

Disney Cruise Line is making sure guests know there is plenty of extra magic onboard its summer 2023 Silver Anniversary at Sea sailings, with new details revealed about the line’s spectacular fireworks shows.

Along with the planned pyrotechnic extravaganzas, the cruise line is marking its 25th year of operations with special events, cuisine, and services through September.

Not All Cruises Will Feature Anniversary Fireworks

Disney Cruise Line has provided guests booked on select Silver Anniversary at Sea voyages in the Caribbean and Europe this summer with more details about entertainment options they can enjoy during their voyages, particularly the highly anticipated new signature anniversary fireworks displays.

In an email to booked cruisers, guests are assured that fireworks will be part of the festivities on most cruises, but will not always be the special anniversary show. While detailing its plans, Disney Cruise Line noted that all fireworks shows are weather dependent.

The line confirmed that all 3-night cruises aboard Disney Wish will offer the line’s traditional and very popular Pirate’s Night fireworks, while the ship’s 4-night cruise departing July 3 will feature two fireworks shows, one celebrating the Fourth of July holiday, plus the pirate show.

The 4-night Silver Anniversary at Sea Sailings aboard Disney Wish departing June 12 and 26, July 24, and August 7 also will include one Pirate’s Night fireworks show plus the anniversary show, and guests aboard 4-night Silver Anniversary at Sea Sailings on Disney Dream, departing Aug. 26 and 30, will see the new Silver Anniversary Fireworks at Sea presentation.

The anniversary shows are set to iconic Disney music and to a new signature song created for the anniversary celebrations.

Disney Cruise Line has not detailed which shows will be offered on Europe cruises, saying only that certain itineraries would not offer any fireworks due to the speed and location of the ship.

In Alaska, Disney Wonder is substituting all fireworks shows with the line’s “Freezing the Night Away with Anna, Elsa, and Friends” deck party.

Line Plans More Celebratory Anniversary Events

Disney Cruise Line, which launched operations in 1998, has created other special events to mark the anniversary through the summer season.

“To commemorate our anniversary we invite you to partake in new offerings this summer. A collection of new anniversary desserts sure to tempt cruisers with a sweet tooth, along with a special adult beverage and other novelties, also were announced. The hallmark dessert is a 25th Anniversary Disney Cruise Line Cupcake, a vanilla sponge cake with vanilla frosting topped with sprinkles and a 25th chocolate decoration.

Both the 4,000-guest Disney Fantasy and the 5,000-guest Disney Wish are sailing from Port Canaveral, offering Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries and Bahamas cruises, respectively. Disney Magic, with a capacity for 2,700 guests, is homeported at PortMiami, also sailing Caribbean and Bahamas cruises.

All three ships’ itineraries include calls at the line’s private island, Castaway Cay.

Farther afield, the 4,000-guest Disney Dream is sailing in Europe for the summer, while the 2,700-guest Disney Wonder is deployed to Alaska. (Alaska cruises will not have any fireworks shows, however, and some Mediterranean itineraries will not feature them.)
