Royal Caribbean Requiring App-Based Check-In for One Homeport

Royal Caribbean International has notified travel agents that 2024 departures from Vancouver, Canada will require passengers to check-in via the cruise line’s app.

This will impact guests setting sail for the immensely popular Alaska sailing season as well as select other cruises, but if travelers are unable to use the app, they will still be able to check in at the cruise terminal.

Royal Caribbean Requires Check-In on the App

In a newsletter sent to travel agents, Royal Caribbean International has announced that app-based check-in will be required for sailings departing from Vancouver, Canada.

“Effective immediately, select 2024 sailings departing from Vancouver, British Columbia, will require app check-in only,” the email stated. “If guest[s] cannot check in via the app, they have the alternative option to check in once at the terminal.”

This appears to indicate that online check-in using a computer will no longer be possible, but only on departures from Vancouver. Guests booked on ships sailing from other homeports can still use online check-in if they prefer.

The check-in window opens 45 days before sailing, and guests will be able to use the app up to 9 a.m. local time on their departure date. After that time, they will need to check-in manually at the cruise terminal.

Checking in on the app is intended to make the process of verifying passengers’ identities, setting up onboard accounts, and completing health questionnaires smoother and easier. This will ultimately save time at the cruise terminal, moving crowds along more quickly and getting guests on vacation faster and more efficiently.

To make the app-based check-in even easier, booked guests should log in to the app several days before their check-in window opens to be sure the app is updated and working properly. If they have trouble, uninstalling and reinstalling the app may be effective at correcting errors.

The app can be downloaded for free from Google Play and the App Store, and is compatible with a variety of mobile platforms.

Before arriving at the cruise terminal, guests should ensure their phones are fully charged and keep their paper documentation, including their passports, close at hand in case they are needed.

Which Ships Are Affected?

Though the change is to be implemented immediately, it should be noted that no Royal Caribbean International ships are sailing from Vancouver until Radiance of the Seas opens the cruise line’s Alaska sailing season on Friday, April 26 for a 7-night “Alaska Adventure” itinerary calling on Juneau, Icy Strait Point, and Ketchikan.

Quantum of the Seas will follow three days later with her first and only Vancouver departure of the year after she arrives from Brisbane, Australia. The ship will leave Vancouver on Monday, April 29 for a 7-night Alaska cruise that will reposition the ship to Seattle for the season.

Brilliance of the Seas will also be sailing from Vancouver for the Alaska season, but will not arrive until early May, along with Ovation of the Seas, which will do a one-time Vancouver departure similar to Quantum of the Seas before homeporting from Seattle.

Ovation of the Seas will also depart from Vancouver for a second time at the end of the season as she heads to Hawaii on her return trip to Sydney, Australia.

Will More Cruise Homeports Require App Check-In?

At this time, the requirement to check on via the Royal Caribbean app is only for departures from Vancouver. The cruise line even indicates it is only for “select departures” but further details are not yet available.

It is possible that this may be a testing period for whether or not app check-in has a strong impact on embarkation processing. If it is successful and receives a positive response, Royal Caribbean may choose to roll out the requirement to other cruise homeports, though no such plans have been announced or confirmed at this time.

World’s Largest Cruise Ship Debuts at Western Caribbean Cruise Port

Royal Caribbean’s newest ship has been making waves throughout the Caribbean with cruise ports eager to welcome Icon of the Seas. As of March 4, 2024, Roatan became the latest destination to receive an inaugural call from the world’s largest cruise ship.

Icon of the Seas debuts in Roatan

Being one of the newest ships on the high seas comes with a lot of firsts. The latest milestone for Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas, which officially entered service on January 27, 2024, was making its debut in Roatan, Honduras.

Roatan celebrated the arrival of the world’s largest cruise ship, which has the ability to carry up to 7,600 guests and 2,350 crew members to the Western Caribbean Island. This is great news for the local economy, which relies heavily on tourism.

“It is a historic day for tourism in Honduras with the arrival of the largest cruise ship in the world to the beautiful island of Roatán; It is great news because of the economic benefits and benefits it will bring to the islands and without a doubt we will continue to receive cruises of this size,” said Yadira Gómez, Minister of Tourism.

The historic visit comes just a day after the 250,800 gross-ton ship made headlines for a heroic rescue at sea. On March 3, 2024, Icon of the Seas was sailing near Honduras when it came across 14 individuals who had been stranded for eight days on an ill-equipped raft.

The luxury cruise liner transformed into a maritime miracle worker to bring all 14 people safely onboard. From there, crew members provided them with sustenance and medical attention.

At the instruction of the U.S. Coast Guard, Icon of the Seas brought the refugees to its next port of call to meet up with the Merchant Navy of Honduras, which just so happened to be the ship’s debut in Roatan.

A life-saving rescue mission and an inaugural port call are a lot of excitement for one cruise, but all of this has already happened on a 7-night Western Caribbean sailing that embarked from Miami on March 2, 2024.

With several more days to go and a trip to CocoCay in the Bahamas before the ship returns to Miami on March 9, it will be interesting to see what other excitement might unfold.

Roatan Reports Welcomed Growth In Cruise Tourism

Roatan, Honduras, is already home to two cruise ports, making it well equipped to handle increased numbers of cruise passengers.

Royal Caribbean ships, like Icon of the Seas, dock at Coxen Hole Roatan Cruise Port, which is also managed by Royal Caribbean International. The port is located in the Town Center of Coxen Hole, the capital of Roatan, and can service up to three cruise ships at once. In addition to Royal Caribbean Cruises, the port is also utilized by Norwegian Cruise Line and Celebrity Cruises.

The other cruise port, called Mahogany Bay, is only about 8 km, or 5 miles away, located in Dixon Cove. Mahogany Bay is owned by Carnival Corporation, and is typically only used by Carnival and its sister cruise lines, such as Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, Seabourn, and Costa Cruises.

According to the Honduran Government, cruise tourism in the Caribbean country has been trending upward. In 2023, Honduras welcomed 1.4 million passengers to Roatan – an increase of 47.6%.

“Every week, more cruise ships choose Roatan as an important stop on their itinerary, and this is a clear indication of the increasingly prominent status that the island of Roatán has achieved in the Caribbean tourism landscape,” the Institute of Tourism stated.

Icon of the Seas will also return to Roatan as the vessel continues to alternate between Western and Eastern Caribbean Cruises, inevitably making more maiden calls along the way. So far, the world’s largest vessel has also already made noteworthy inaugural calls to destinations like St. Kitts and Nevis on January 30; St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands on January 31; and Philipsburg, St. Maarten on February 13.

New Royal Caribbean Ship to Set Sail Sooner Than Planned

Just days after Royal Caribbean International announced that the second Icon-class ship would be delayed and her first two sailings cancelled, the cruise line has just confirmed that the next upcoming up – Utopia of the Seas – will be ready to enter service sooner than expected.

A new 3-night inaugural sailing is being offered, and guests booked on what will now be the ship’s second sailing will have the option to move up to the earlier cruise if they prefer.

New Inaugural Sailing for Utopia of the Seas

Royal Caribbean International has reached out to guests booked on what was to have been the first sailing of Utopia of the Seas to inform them that the new ship is actually going to be welcoming guests earlier than originally planned.

This means a new, earlier inaugural sailing for the sixth Oasis-class ship, and a missed opportunity for travelers who had eagerly booked the July 22, 2024 departure for the once-in-a-ship’s-lifetime very first cruise. These guests are, however, being offer the opportunity to change their booking if their travel plans are flexible.

“Utopia of the Seas is ahead of schedule and arriving at Port Canaveral earlier than originally planned. Although the July 22nd, 2024 inaugural season sailing that you booked will still take place, we are adding an extra voyage prior to this one,” the email notification read.

“Now, the first inaugural season sailing will be a 3-night weekend cruise on July 19th, 2024 instead of the 4-night sailing on July 22nd, 2024.”

The cruise line acknowledges that many travelers may have booked the specific July 22 cruise to be the first onboard the ship, and to accommodate that desire, these guests have the option to move their booking to the new cruise.

If booked passengers do opt to transfer their cruise three days earlier, they will be in the exact same stateroom as their original reservation, and they will be given a prorated one-day refund of their cruise fare to compensate for the shorter length of the new inaugural cruise. A similar pro-rated refund will also be provided for pre-paid gratuities, Wi-Fi packages, beverage packages, and other add-on options.

Any travelers who booked airfare for the original cruise through Royal Caribbean will have their flights changed as needed, and the cruise line will cover any non-refundable change fees for guests with independent flight or hotel arrangements, up to $200 (USD) per person for domestic travel or $400 for international travel.

Receipts will need to be submitted for reimbursement consideration, as is standard procedure with these types of changes.

The offer to move to the new sailing is only available for a limited time, and guests must make their decision no later than Tuesday, March 12. After that date, it is likely the new inaugural sailing will be opened for bookings for other travelers.

If guests do not respond to the offer, they will remain on the July 22 departure with no impact to their reservation.

It should be noted that Utopia of the Seas will be homeported from Port Canaveral, and both cruises will visit Nassau as well as CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private island in The Bahamas. The only difference between the two cruises is that the 4-night cruise will also include a day at sea.

Two Inaugural Sailings

A cruise ship’s maiden voyage is often filled with special events such as extra parties, souvenir gifts for passengers, and unique moments travelers don’t get to experience on other sailings.

Royal Caribbean has reassured guests that both of Utopia of the Seas‘ first two sailings will include such special moments so everyone can enjoy the experience.

Royal Caribbean's Utopia of the Seas

“Whether you join us on your original sailing or the new one, we’re thrilled you’ve chosen to set sail on Utopia of the Seas for the inaugural season! Make sure to look out for some sweet commemorative items to celebrate our newest ship in the fleet in your stateroom during the first and second sailing, despite which of these sailings you end up choosing,” the email said.

Utopia of the Seas will be the sixth Oasis-class ship in Royal Caribbean fleet, and was long believed to be the final ship in the immensely popular class – especially after the wildly successful debut of the next class with Icon of the Seas.

On February 15, however, the cruise line announced a new order for what will be the seventh Oasis-class ship, which is not yet named.

While construction for the new ship has not yet begun and financing is yet to be arranged, she is expected to debut as early as 2028 – offering cruise guests yet one more opportunity for an inaugural sailing aboard an Oasis-class ship.

World’s Largest Cruise Ship Makes Heroic Rescue at Sea

In a commendable demonstration of maritime expertise and humanitarian action, Icon of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, became the centerpiece of a high-seas rescue operation off the coast of Honduras.

Maritime Miracle

Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas, which only just launched its maiden voyage on January 27, 2024, shifted roles from luxury liner to rescue vessel upon encountering 14 individuals stranded at sea for eight days.

The operation unfolded in the early hours of a “7-Night Western Cruise” itinerary through the Caribbean. As the sun rose over the horizon on March 3, 2024, a lookout aboard the ship spotted a small, inadequately equipped raft bobbing aimlessly in the vast blue expanse.

Without hesitation, Captain Henrik Loy and crew initiated a well-coordinated rescue operation, bound by the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS).

Regulation 33 of Chapter V states, “A master of a ship at sea, which is in a position to be able to provide assistance on receiving a signal from any source that persons are in distress at sea, is bound to proceed with all speed to their assistance.”

Icon of the Seas crew, collaborating with the U.S. Coast Guard, provided immediate medical care to stabilize the refugees’ conditions after days of exposure to the elements.

A spokesperson for Royal Caribbean told CruiseHive, “On March 3, 2024, Icon of the Seas encountered a small vessel adrift and in need of assistance. The ship’s crew immediately launched a rescue operation, safely bringing 14 people onboard. The crew provided them with medical attention, and is working closely with the U.S. Coast Guard.

According to a local media outlet, Icon of the Seas transported the refugees to its next port of call, Roatan, Honduras, where the Merchant Navy of Honduras met the ship.

The Honduran news source reported that the migrants were hopeful they would be allowed to be transported to the U.S.

A Legacy of Maritime Assistance

While the recent rescue operation by Icon of the Seas stands out due to the vessel’s stature, rescues at sea are not uncommon in the cruise industry.

Just three weeks before Icon’s mission, Carnival Celebration, operated by Carnival Cruise Line, came to the aid of 20 Cuban refugees facing distress in the Florida Straits. The ship’s crew provided food and water to those in need until the U.S. Coast Guard’s Key West sector arrived.

In January, Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady rescued 18 Cuban refugees from a sinking boat in the Caribbean.

This is also not the first time a Royal Caribbean ship has rescued passengers in the Caribbean. In January 2023, Liberty of the Seas executed a similar rescue, saving 17 Cuban refugees found adrift in a small raft as it was en route to The Bahamas.

Continuing a Groundbreaking Voyage

Icon of the Seas, launched by Royal Caribbean International, has quickly ascended to the forefront of maritime achievement as the world’s largest cruise ship.

The ship, which measures an impressive 1,198 feet from bow to stern and weighs 250,800 gross tons, is homeported in Miami. It is spending its first season and most of 2024 and 2025 in the Caribbean.

With a capacity to host 7,600 passengers, Icon of the Seas sails a series of 7-night roundtrip voyages between Miami and the Western and Eastern Caribbean.

Its current cruise, which began on March 2, 2024, made its first port of call in Roatan after the rescue was made.

Icon of the Seas proceeded to run its course, traveling to Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico. The ship will spend time at Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at Coco Cay in the Bahamas before circling back to Miami on March 9, 2024.

Royal Caribbean Cabin Steward Arrested Over Hidden Cameras

A male stateroom attendant aboard Royal Caribbean International’s Symphony of the Seas was arrested on Sunday, March 3, 2024 under accusations of installing hidden cameras inside guests’ staterooms. The attendant confessed to the acts and faces federal charges, and he will be detained until his trial.

Royal Caribbean International is fully cooperating with investigators for this disturbing incident.

Stateroom Attendant Arrested for Hidden Cameras

A Royal Caribbean stateroom attendant, 34-year-old Arvin Joseph Mirasol from the Philippines, was arrested in Fort Lauderdale when Symphony of the Seas returned from her most recent cruise, an 8-night Southern Caribbean sailing that had departed Port Everglades on Saturday, February 24.

Mirasol allegedly placed hidden cameras in a number of staterooms, even moving the cameras on different sailings to film guests who met his preferences – including younger passengers.

Even more shockingly, Mirasol admitted to hiding under the beds in staterooms on “several occasions” while guests were reportedly in the shower.

Mirasol’s activities were discovered when a guest found a camera in her stateroom bathroom early on the sailing. She was traveling with two female family members, and found the camera underneath the sink. She alerted the ship’s security department, which immediately took action. Mirasol was detained by the ship’s security for the rest of the sailing.

The employee’s equipment, including a USB stick, SD card, camera, and cell phone, has been seized and examined. Several videos showed the illicit activities, including one video of Mirasol installing a camera in a guest stateroom.

Mirasol’s actions were reported to Homeland Security by the cruise line. His employment has been terminated, and he was turned over to authorities as soon as the ship docked.

“We have zero tolerance for this unacceptable behavior. We immediately reported this to law enforcement and terminated the crew member, and we will continue to fully cooperate with authorities,” a statement from Royal Caribbean said.

Further investigation has shown that Mirasol began working on Symphony of the Seas in December 2023, but no details have been released about how many staterooms may be impacted by his actions, or whether or not video was obtained from multiple sailings.

Mirasol now faces seven different charges and remains booked in the Broward County Jail without bond.

The 228,081-gross-ton, Symphony of the Seas is currently homeported from Fort Lauderdale, offering a mix of Southern Caribbean and Western Caribbean sailings. In May, the ship will reposition to New Jersey to offer Bahamas and Eastern Caribbean cruises for the summer, before moving to Miami in November to resume varied Caribbean itineraries.

The Oasis-class ship can welcome 5,518 guests at double occupancy, or as many as 6,680 passengers when fully booked with all berths filled. Also onboard are approximately 2,200 international crew members. This incident has not impacted Symphony of the Seas‘ sailings or itineraries in any way.

Other Camera Incidents

This is not the first time hidden cameras have been reported aboard a cruise ship. In May 2023, a guest aboard Harmony of the Seas was arrested for placing a hidden camera in one of the ship’s public unisex restrooms.

In 2017, a family aboard Carnival Cruise Line’s now-retired Carnival Fantasy found a hidden camera near their stateroom television.

While the vast majority of cruise ship employees are outstanding individuals with strong work ethics, it is unfortunate that – just like in any job position – there are occasionally individuals who behave inappropriately, even criminally.

Cruise guests can protect themselves by remaining vigilant about their surroundings and inspecting their staterooms as soon as they arrive for their vacation, ensuring there are no suspicious cables, lenses, or other equipment – especially focused on beds or in bathrooms. Anything uncertain should immediately be reported to ship’s security or Guest Services.

Passenger Sues Cruise Line After Unexpected Donkey Injury

After being kicked by a donkey while visiting Grand Turk in the Caribbean, a Florida man is seeking compensation from Carnival Cruise Line. Although the man was injured, the social media commentary online suggests that people are wondering who is really at fault in this situation.

Florida Man Sues Carnival After Donkey Kick In Grand Turk

According to Daniel Goldston, a Florida resident and recent passenger onboard Carnival’s Mardi Gras, the cruise line is to blame for his less than stellar experience in Grand Turk.

Mardi Gras, an Excel-class ship, is currently one of the largest vessels operated by the cruise line at 180,800 gross tons and a maximum guest capacity of 6,500.

While visiting the cruise port with his wife, which is owned and operated by the cruise line, Goldston took a photo with a donkey. The animal then kicked him, fracturing his right knee, which he says has required multiple surgical procedures to treat.

The unhappy cruiser filed a lawsuit against Carnival Corporation on February 16, 2024, accusing the cruise line of negligence. Goldston alleges that Carnival was negligent because the company “failed to maintain and operate the cruise terminal properly and failed to install warning signs about the animals and potential risk of harm.”

He also claims that Carnival knew of similar incidents involving donkeys at the cruise terminal, but it’s unclear where he got this information and the cruise line has not responded publicly to this allegation.

That said, the popular cruise line, which currently operates 27 ships, does take safety seriously – but also acknowledges on its website that guests have a role in protecting themselves, too.

“Although everyone’s safety is our number one concern, all guests should take responsibility for their own personal safety,” reads Carnival’s code of conduct.

On social media, the sentiment among commenters was that Goldston was in the wrong for approaching an unknown animal or must have done something to provoke the donkey.

“Wonder what he was doing to the donkey… There’s no way the donkey kicked him (if it actually did) without being provoked or threatened, commented another

Alejandro J. Gonzalez of Homestead is representing Goldston in the lawsuit, in which his client seeks “compensatory damages for his injuries and medical expenses as well as lost income, earning capacity and non-economic damages such as pain, suffering, disability, physical impairment, scarring, disfigurement, mental anguish, inconvenience and loss of capacity to enjoy life. He also seeks court costs, interest and other relief.

Neither Gonzalez nor Carnival Corporation have released public statements regarding the suit at the time of this publication.

Tourist Experience Takes A Nose Dive in Grand Turk

Carnival Cruise Line built, owns, and operates The Grand Turk Cruise Center – the only cruise port in the Turks and Caicos. The $50 million cruise terminal opened in 2006 to serve the island country, which is located between the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas.

Although the port mainly caters to Carnival Cruise Line ships, other cruise lines like Princess Cruises, Costa Cruises, Holland America Line, Marella Cruises, and Virgin Voyages are also known to use the cruise terminal.

But lately, things haven’t been all smooth sailing in Grand Turk. At the end of 2023, it was reported that Grand Turk saw a decline in profitability and customer service ratings.

The main causes behind the lowered perceptions related to drug-related incidents and physical altercations on the island, as well as complaints of not enough shore excursions and activities. But, it also seems another problem may be getting out of hand.

Reports have been circulating that suggest that the population of wild donkeys and stray dogs is overwhelming communities in Grand Turk, which is leading to car accidents because of animals on the road and incidents with tourists who try to pet them.

There are also concerns about how to properly care for all of the animals, with some locals also concerned about the potential for animal neglect or for injured animals to go untreated.

Celebrity Cruises Informs Guests Out of An Abundance of Caution

Celebrity Cruises has reached out to guests who have sailed aboard Celebrity Ascent with notification of a Legionella diagnosis for two passengers who sailed aboard the ship in January 2024.

The notification has been sent in an abundance of caution, and the disease is not contagious between individuals, but lives in water droplets. Enhanced sanitation has been implemented onboard as a precaution.

Celebrity Cruises Informs Passengers

A letter sent to recent Celebrity Cruises guests has informed them of a confirmed diagnosis of Legionella from two prior guests onboard the brand new Celebrity Ascent.

“Your health and safety are always our top priority, and out of an abundance of caution, we are reaching out because the CDC advised that two guests who sailed on Celebrity Ascent in January were later diagnosed with a respiratory illness known as Legionella,” the email notification read.

To be clear, the guests were not diagnosed onboard the cruise ship, nor has there been a recognized outbreak linked to a specific sailing.

“While they do not know if these guests were exposed onboard or elsewhere, we are working with the CDC to ensure awareness,” the email explained.

As soon as the cruise line was notified, extra sanitation protocols were implemented aboard Celebrity Ascent. This would include extra cleaning of vulnerable surfaces and equipment as needed, and changes to operational protocols to limit any potential spread.

It should be noted that the disease is not spread through person-to-person contact, but instead is a bacterial infection passed via contaminated water droplets such as through air conditioning condensers, hot tubs, water dispensers, and similar sources.

The disease also occurs naturally in freshwater ponds, lakes, and rivers, as well as in municipal water supplies, public pools, decorative fountains, hot water tanks, and other water sources.

To protect their privacy, further details about the exact Celebrity Ascent sailing or the infected guests’ names or identifying information has not been released. It is not known whether the individuals are related or were traveling together, though that does seem likely.

The 3,260-passenger, 140,600 gross-ton, Edge-class ship officially joined the Celebrity Cruises fleet in December 2023. Celebrity Ascent is now homeported from Fort Lauderdale, offering Caribbean and Bahamas itineraries until she moves to the Mediterranean in late April for the summer sailing season.

About Legionella

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Legionella – in its more severe form, Legionnaires’ Disease, and in its more mild form, Pontiac fever – has an incubation period of 2-14 days. It is unknown whether or not the individuals who tested positive after their cruise aboard Celebrity Ascent contracted the illness from the ship or from some other source prior to boarding.

It is also unclear exactly when the disease was confirmed, and given the variance in the incubation period, it is even possible they contracted the disease after the sailing. Droplets of contaminated water must be breathed in for infection to occur, or contaminated water must otherwise get in the lungs.

Celebrity Ascent Resort Deck
Celebrity Ascent Resort Deck

Typical symptoms of both Legionnaires’ Disease and Pontiac fever include coughing, fever, muscle aches, headaches, and shortness of breath. Severity of symptoms will vary between individuals, and may be confused with pneumonia or similar diseases.

Individuals at increased risk include those over the age of 50, anyone with a weakened immune system, or those with compromised breathing abilities, such as current or former smokers or individuals with emphysema or similar conditions.

In 2018 – the most recent year with complete data – roughly 10,000 cases of Legionnaires’ Disease were reported in the US. It is believed the disease is likely underreported due to the similarity of symptoms with other illnesses. The disease can be contracted at any time of year, but is more common in summer and early fall.

Celebrity Cruises is urging any passengers who experience symptoms associated with Legionnaires’ Disease within 14 days of sailing aboard Celebrity Ascent to seek medical attention and alert medical authorities to their recent travel.

Norwegian Joy will remain sailing from Miami through the end of March, before moving to New York for the summer and fall seasons, offering primarily Bermuda itineraries as well as select Canada and New England departures for amazing autumn voyages.

The ship will return to Florida in the fall, alternating sailings from Miami and Los Angeles before the 2025 Alaska season, after which she will sail from Port Canaveral.

Port Reopens After Fog, Carnival Ship Arrives Hours Late

Carnival Elation is on the move again after a delay of several hours due to heavy fog as the ship returned to the Port of Jacksonville.

Guests booked on the ship’s next cruise have been alerted to the delay and advised to move their arrival time appointments five hours later in the day to accommodate the late arrival, but all travelers must be onboard by 7 p.m. for the ship’s revised departure.

Carnival Elation Delayed Five Hours

Due to heavy fog that closed the Port of Jacksonville to all marine traffic on Monday morning, Carnival Elation was delayed while returning from her latest cruise, a 4-night Bahamas sailing. Now, the ship will be arriving at approximately 1 p.m. to debark guests and prepare the vessel for the next cruise.

Passengers eager to board for that next cruise have been alerted to the delay through a series of emails and text messages. The final update, provided at noon, was the good news that the ship would soon be arriving and the embarkation arrival plans were confirmed.

Travelers still on the Fantasy-class Carnival Elation are likely being offered assistance to help adjust their travel plans after the cruise, such as complimentary internet use to change flight reservations or contact family members, friends, or ride share companies planning to pick them up at the cruise port.

If flights were purchased through Carnival Cruise Line, they will be automatically adjusted to the next available flights.

During the delay, the onboard crew will also do everything possible to provide extra activities and updates, keeping everyone as informed as they can about the ship’s progress and docking plans.

Will the Next Itinerary Be Changed?

Guests may be understandably concerned whether or not their slightly-delayed cruise may suffer from knock-on effects to the overall itinerary.

The ship is scheduled for a day at sea, followed by a visit to Nassau on Wednesday and Bimini on Thursday, and another day at sea before Carnival Elation returns to Jacksonville on Saturday, March 9.

More From Cruise Hive

Because cruise ships typically slow down during days at sea to ensure more comfortable conditions for passengers to enjoy all the activities on the open decks – pools, hot tubs, deck parties, games, contests, live music, and more – it is easy for a ship to increase speed and make up lost time during a day at sea.

At this time, there are no expected changes to Carnival Elation‘s time in port. The ship will be in each port from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on their respective days, but it is possible those times may yet be revised as the ship is en route.
