One cruise line that’s shown this exceptionally well is Celebrity Cruises, which offers an array of foodie-approved restaurants and bars that are sure to make your mouth water.

1. Blu Restaurant

Blu Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but there’s a catch. This restaurant is only open to AquaClass cruisers and you can view the menu here.

However, if you’re one of the lucky few to book a cabin within this category, which comes with tons of spa-related amenities, you’ll definitely want to make tracks to Blu at some point during your cruise.

The restaurant feels a little upscale, and the menu items are more or less on the healthy side, which aligns with the wellness amenities that AquaClass cruisers are looking for. Breakfast options include continental offerings, bakery items and an omelet station, as well fresh juices and smoothies.

For dinner, Blu’s signature entrées include items like a Dijon-glazed salmon salad, roasted chicken breast and pan-seared filet mignon. A portion of the menu is dedicated to “clean cuisine” with additional entrée options like orecchiette pasta and pan-seared red snapper.

Fine Cut Steakhouse is featured on all of Celebrity Cruises’ Edge-class ships. While the steakhouse’s focus is on USDA Prime steaks, it offers plenty more to love, for a high-end, classic steakhouse experience.

Think shrimp cocktails and Caesar salads for your app; steak just about any way you like and served with an array of specialty toppings; and classic steakhouse sides like creamed spinach and loaded baked potatoes.

Just like most cruise ships offer some sort of steakhouse-style restaurant, so do most cruise ships offer an Italian restaurant. Celebrity Cruises’ version of this is Tuscan Grille, where authentic Italian eats are served for both lunch and dinner, and the wine menu has received nods from the likes of Wine Spectator.

The ingredients-focused menu utilizes artisanal meats and fresh, homemade pastas (made right on the ship!), and the drinks menu highlights all things Italian, with Italian wines, cocktails and beers.

5. The Porch

A seafood-focused eatery with a light and airy beach feel, The Porch is located near The Lawn Club on Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection. The casual restaurant is counter-service, so place your order, then grab a seat and enjoy the venue’s ocean views.

The highlight on the small menu is the restaurant’s Seafood Tower, which contains shrimp, lobster tail, scallops, mussels and a seafood salad, but other tempting options include the Hamachi crudo and classic lobster roll.

6. Le Voyage

Featured on Celebrity Cruises’ newest ships, Celebrity Beyond and Celebrity Ascent, Le Voyage comes courtesy of Chef Daniel Boulud. The restaurant is the chef’s first signature restaurant on a cruise ship, and the chef is Celebrity Cruises’ global culinary ambassador.

The restaurant itself boasts a modern, eye-catching aesthetic, with artistic architectural features that provide visual appeal and craft intimate spaces for diners to enjoy a private meal.

Tasting menus (both plant-based and otherwise) are available here, but the a la carte dinner menu includes globally inspired menu items like Brazilian moqueca (grouper, shrimp and squid with cashew rice and a coconut broth), 5-spice duck pithivier (with bok choy, shiitake and a sweet and sour sauce) and risotto au homard (with lobster, zucchini and a cherry tomato confit).

7. Eden Restaurant

Similarly featured on some of Celebrity Cruises’ newest ships and offering a blend of attractive dining spaces and tastebud-tempting menus, Eden Restaurant has a large and impressive feel, thanks to the space’s ample natural light and focus on greenery and wood tones.

Multi-course tasting menus, including plant-based tasting menus, are available, but for dinner, expect to enjoy contemporary international flavors, with options like sheep’s milk gnocchi served with speck ham, sage butter and smoked pecorino, or tomato couli served with Israeli couscous, chickpeas and vegetables. 8. Le Petit Chef

Yes, at first glance, this particular restaurant might look a little gimmicky. An animated chef appears, projected onto your plate and table, to basically provide a bit of whimsical entertainment alongside your meal.

That said, while it’s not a dining experience that will appeal to everyone, it is an incredibly unique experience, a great option to consider if you want a “special” meal, but you don’t really like sitting in a formal restaurant where you’re expected to know your salad fork from your dessert fork.

Plenty of cruisers do really enjoy the experience, and so Celebrity Cruises has this restaurant on the majority of its ships. It’s worth checking the menu here.

The only downside with this restaurant is that, due to the programmed nature of the show, you get very few menu options — two options each for four courses. You can choose between a tomato salad and burrata salad, chicken Caesar salad and bouillabaisse, chicken and steak, and rice pudding or an ice cream sundae.

With the wide-open sky above and plenty of sea views all around, you’ll enjoy an array of smoked and grilled meats, like baby back ribs, smoked brisket and grilled burgers. 10. Café al Bacio

Not all of the eateries aboard Celebrity Cruises’ ships are focused on sit-down meals for lunch and dinner. Available on the majority of Celebrity Cruises ships, Café al Bacio is a European-inspired café serving specialty coffees, pastries, desserts and authentic gelato. So, whether you need to get a caffeine fix, or just satisfy your sweet tooth, you can do so here.

The menu includes a nice selection of espresso-based drinks, from lattes to Americanos, as well as both hot and cold teas and specialty drinks like hot cocoa and affogato. Coffee-based cocktails are also available, as is wine.

11. Luminae

If you’re cruising on a ship that features The Retreat — the suite guests-only area on certain Celebrity Cruises ships, and that often feature a private restaurant, sun deck, lounge and more, only for suite guests’ use — then you have to take advantage of one of your VIP dining spaces at some point: Luminae restaurant.

Luminae is a high-end restaurant that’s completely complimentary for suite guests, and which serves breakfast and dinner daily. One cool feature?

The menus are exclusive to the restaurant, so that means that, in addition to having exclusive access to the restaurant itself, you’ll also enjoy exclusive access to dishes that no one else on the ship can order.

These specialty items include options like a slow-roasted radicchio with a romesco sauce and quinoa, and a Moroccan chicken tagine with saffron couscous. Take a look at the menu right here.

12. Raw on 5

Featured on just a few ships (Celebrity Edge, Apex, Beyond and Ascent), Raw on 5 specializes in expertly crafted sushi, with a menu designed by Chef Yoshikazu Okada. Whether you prefer sushi rolls, sashimi or nigiri, albacore, shrimp, eel or salmon, you’ll find something to sate your cravings.

On ships that have the Celebrity Cruises Magic Carpet feature, such as Celebrity Edge, the floating cantilevered platform provides a unique dinner experience after dark. You’ll dine in a setting that’s literally floating over the water, for unparalleled views of the ocean beyond.

The menu is an extension of what you’ll find at Raw on 5 — and, as such, has a seafood focus — with a few unique offerings added in that you won’t be able to get at Raw on 5.

While the Magic Carpet sits on Deck 5, adjacent to Raw on 5, during lunch hours, for the Dinner on the Edge experience, the Magic Carpet moves up to Deck 14, where it’s an extension of the Resort Deck on Deck 14, providing even better, higher views.

While reservations are required, the Magic Carpet restaurant is one of the more casual specialty dining experiences on Celebrity Cruises’ ships.

14. Le Grand Bistro

For European eats in a French bistro-style setting (this restaurant has the French sidewalk dining experience down pat), go to Le Grand Bistro.

Here, you’ll find it easy to sip away at your favorite café beverages during the morning or afternoon (or maybe a glass of wine, if you’re feeling cheeky). Then, after dark, the bistro becomes a cozy spot for a casual dinner.

What About the Main Dining Rooms and Buffets?

You probably noticed that we didn’t include any of Celebrity Cruises’ main dining rooms or the buffet on this list of best restaurants, and we didn’t focus so much on complimentary dining across the fleet.

This is in part because, while Celebrity Cruises’ main dining rooms and buffets are perfectly okay, they’re not exactly over-the-top special — and for cruising foodies, you really want those special features that are going to ‘wow’ and make for a memorable dining experience, whether that’s the menu or setting.

However, if you do want to dine at the main dining rooms, you’ll find that most Celebrity Cruises ships feature two to four main dining rooms: Cyprus, Tuscan and Normandie, and then Cosmopolitan, which is featured on Apex and Edge-class ships. Each dining room has its own aesthetic.

All are generally the same in that they give you a multi-course meal that’s described by many cruisers as more or less just “fine.” It’s also been described as similar to wedding food. Think, again, perfectly fine catered fare, but nothing exceptional.

At the buffet, the quality is pretty much the same. However, many cruisers like a cruise ship buffet due to the wealth of options available to you, as well as the laid-back atmosphere. Additionally, many cruise ship buffets now offer cook-to-order stations, like omelet stations, for super-fresh bites.

Celebrity Cruises’ buffet is the Oceanview Buffet, and it’s open for three meals per day, serving up a variety of cuisines and items, with lots of staples like pizza, pasta, sandwiches, salads, Asian cuisine, Mexican cuisine, hot dogs, burgers, fries, etc., plus bakery items and other desserts.

Carnival Becomes First to Plug Into Shore Power at PortMiami

PortMiami celebrated a significant environmental milestone as it is launched its new shore power facility, with Carnival Corporation’s Carnival Conquest being the first cruise ship to utilize this technology.

The initiative is part of a collaboration between Miami-Dade County, Florida Power & Light Company, and several cruise lines, making PortMiami the first major U.S. eastern seaboard cruise port to offer shore power at five of its cruise berths.

Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, expressed pride in Carnival being the first to plug into the new technology, saying, “This is an important milestone for our hometown and we’re proud to support Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and all county and port officials for their amazing partnership in bringing shore power to PortMiami.”

The introduction of shore power allows docked ships to plug into the local electricity grid rather than running diesel engines, cutting down on greenhouse emissions while docked. The program has been implemented at Cruise Terminals AA, A, B, F, and V, home to MSC Cruises, Royal Caribbean International, Norwegian Cruise Line, Carnival Cruise Line, and Virgin Voyages, respectively.

Carnival Conquest, which homeports in Miami, returned from a 3-night roundtrip cruise to Nassau, Bahamas, to connect to shore power ahead of its next departure, a 4-night Bahamian cruise to Princess Cays and Nassau.

PortMiami’s Shore Power Initiative

By utilizing shore power at PortMiami, which welcomed nearly 7.3 million cruise passengers in 2023, the port will reduce emissions by up to 98%. It is estimated that the emission reductions from one terminal are equivalent to removing 7,500 cars from the road. With five terminals at PortMiami with shore power, that equates to 37,500 cars.

The Shore Power Program at the port was a significant investment with an estimated cost of $125 million divided across the equipped terminals. The funding was supported through grants totalling $21.7 million, including contributions from the Florida Department of Transportation and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Despite the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) reporting that 30% of global cruise ships, which represent 40% of capacity, have shore power technology, it also revealed that fewer than 20 ports globally are equipped to provide the service to cruise ships.

Recently, the Port of Seattle announced it will mandate 100% of cruise lines homeported will be required to utilize shore power by 2027. Carnival Corporation currently homeports eight ships in Seattle.

Currently, 67% of Carnival Corporation’s fleet, which includes 27 Carnival Cruise Line ships, 17 Princess Cruises ships, four Cunard Line ships, 11 Holland America Line ships, seven Seabourn Cruises ships, and 11 AIDA Cruises ships, is capable of using shore power. 

Josh Weinstein, CEO of Carnival Corporation, highlighted the company’s longstanding commitment to reducing its environmental impact, saying, “Using shoreside electricity to power our ships in port is an integral part of our global strategy to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and minimize our environmental footprint.”

Shore power technology supports Carnival Corporation’s decarbonization efforts and aligns with its broader strategy to achieve net zero GHG emissions by 2050. The company has reduced its GHG emissions by over 10% since 2011, despite a 30% increase in capacity.

By the end of 2024, three additional ships in Carnival’s fleet will be outfitted with shore power capabilities. A partnership with Swiss technology provider ABB Group is set to add 30 more shore power connections to the fleet in coming years.

Miami-Dade County is also investing heavily in renewable energy and energy efficiency in its efforts to become a more sustainable global city.

Norwegian Cruise Line Ship to Host Rock Cruise in 2025

Music promoter On the Blue Cruises announced it will present a 5-night Monsters of Rock Cruise aboard a Norwegian Cruise Line ship in spring 2025, featuring a slew of rock band performances and other interactive events for guests.

The full-ship charter of Norwegian Joy will depart the Port of Miami on March 10, 2025, and make two port calls, one at Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian Cruise Line’s private island destination in the Bahamas, and another at Nassau, Bahamas.

With nearly 40 bands already lined up, the rock cruise — dubbed MORC ’25 —will be hosted by Eddie Trunk, the radio personality known for his hard rock and heavy metal radio and television shows. A group of co-hosts will join the sailing as well, serving as moderators for musician Q-and-A sessions and other events.

Among the rock bands scheduled to perform are Tesla, LA Guns, Slaughter, Rose Tattoo, Aldo Nova, Iron Maidens, Lynch Mob, The Bites, Midnight City, Hurricane, The Cruel Intentions, Winger, and Michael Schenker.

The performances are just part of the Monsters of Rock Cruise, which in 2025 will mark its 13th year as a theme cruise at sea. Along with the bands, interactive events will feature Gong Show Karaoke, Cooking with Rock Stars, and Painting with Rock Stars. The voyage will mark the first time the theme sailing will be held aboard Norwegian Joy.

A sports event, yet to be announced, is planned, too, with a “Rockers vs. Average Joe’s” theme. Comedy shows are also on the activity schedule.

The rock bands will perform on multiple stages set up across the Breakaway Plus-class ship, which accommodates about 3,880 guests in double occupancy. Norwegian Joy, which entered service in 2017, was the second of the cruise line’s four Breakaway Plus vessels.

Other ships in the class include Norwegian Bliss (2018); Norwegian Encore (2019); and Norwegian Escape (2015). The class represents the line’s largest ships, all with a total capacity of about 4,400 cruisers when all berths are occupied. The ships were the first to debut Norwegian Cruise Line’s popular Speedway go-kart tracks.

The 167,725-gross ton Norwegian Joy also features multiple pools and water activities, such as thrilling waterslides, and for those seeking a quiet atmosphere, the ship offers the line’s adult-only Vibe Beach Club and the Mandara Spa.

As on all the Breakaway Plus ships, guests can book accommodation in The Haven, Norwegian Cruise Line’s exclusive ship-within-a-ship luxury area.

Guests to Enjoy Two Port Calls in the Bahamas

Cruisers booking the Monsters of Rock Cruise will spend one day at Great Stirrup Cay, the 250-acre private island in the Bahamas.

The destination offers a slew of water-based activities, such as snorkeling, kayaking, swimming, and jet skiing. The island retreat also provides a variety of eateries, including some that are complimentary and some with a cover charge.

At the Nassau port call, guests will find a new cruise terminal, recently completed with an investment of $300 million. Among the improvements to the port are a redesigned waterfront, more cruise ship berths, entertainment spaces, food sellers, retail stores, and a living coral exhibit.

Guests can choose from many active excursions and tours, such as the Dolphin Encounter and Atlantis Aquaventure, plus relaxing alternatives like the Blue Lagoon Island Beach Day. Disney Cruise Line has announced its sailing itineraries for fall 2025 through spring 2026, introducing a variety of destinations across the Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexico, and the Pacific. The itineraries, which continue to follow this season’s sailing routes, include several themed voyages.

Disney Cruise Line’s upcoming schedule features the Disney Fantasy, Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and Disney Dream, all set to visit Disney’s exclusive island destinations, Disney Castaway Cay and the brand-new Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, which welcomed its first guests on June 10, 2024.

Starting in October 2025 through May 2026, Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish will be a staple for shorter Caribbean getaways. Both 4,000-passenger weighing 144,000 gross tons will offer 3- to 5-night sailings from Port Canaveral to the Bahamas, where both Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay await. 

Fort Lauderdale will serve as the departure point to the Bahamas for 3- to 5-night sailings on the 4,000-passenger Disney Dream, also featuring Disney Castaway Cay and Disney Lookout Cay. Additionally, the slightly smaller ship at less than 130,000 gross tons will offer 7-night sailings San Juan, Puerto Rico, to explore the Bahamas and Eastern Caribbean, running from October 2025 to May 2026.

Disney Magic, the oldest and smallest ship in the fleet at 83,000 gross tons, will also operate 7-night sailings from San Juan to the Bahamas and Eastern Caribbean from October to November 2025.

Then, from November 2025 to May 2026, the 2,400-passenger ship will reposition to the Gulf of Mexico to offer 4- to 7-night voyages from Galveston, Texas, with stops in Cozumel and Progresso, Mexico.

Also sailing in the Eastern and Western Caribbean will be the new Disney Treasure, which embarks on its inaugural cruise in December 2024. Also a 4,000-passenger, 144,000-gross-ton ship, its first season will feature a similar itinerary from Port Canaveral.

Only Disney Wonder will veer from the U.S. and will be deployed for Australia and New Zealand from October 2025 to February 2026. These voyages will range from 3 to 10 nights, exploring destinations in Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific, including Wellington, New Zealand, and Hobart, Australia.

But the 1,750-passenger ship weighing 85,000 gross tons will reposition to San Diego, California, from March to May 2026. From there, it will offer 3- to 4-night sailings along the Pacific Coast and Beja Peninsula, with stops at Catalina Islands and Ensenada, Mexico, much as it did earlier this year.

Themed sailings will also be available with the return of the popular Halloween on the High Seas offered on select sailing in September and October 2025, and Very Merrytime Cruises available in November and December 2025, providing seasonal experiences for guests.

Disney Ships Visiting Disney Destinations This Summer

Following the grand opening of Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, Disney Magic and Disney Wish are each spending summer through Halloween traveling between Fort Lauderdale and the new destination, as well as Castaway Cay.

Unfortunately, Wi-Fi is not provided inside Seward Cruise Ship Terminal, but there are plenty of coffee shops and restaurants in Seward itself where you can access public Wi-Fi. For example, the Sea Bean Café on 4th Avenue in downtown Seward offers fast and free Wi-Fi for customers, and it is less than two miles from the port. 

Getting to the Port

If you are hoping to travel to the Seward Cruise Port from outside Seward itself, accessibility is fairly simple, especially by Alaskan standards. Seward Cruise Port is approximately 140 miles south of Anchorage, Alaska’s largest and most populous city. 

For this reason, many people fly into Ted Stevens International Airport (ANC) in Anchorage and then take a short flight on a smaller plane to Seward Airport (SWD), which is located just 1.9 miles away from Seward Cruise Ship Terminal.

For those looking for a more scenic version, it is also possible to rent a car in Anchorage and drive the roughly two-hour and twenty-minute journey along State Highway 9, which connects Anchorage to Seward.

Seward City Tours also operates a free shuttle bus with a pickup location on the harbor’s edge. The shuttle then takes passengers on a free 30-minute route through the town, with various stops at points of interest.

Keep in mind that stops are at designated locations, so you will have to walk from them. Fortunately, Seward is a small and compact town, so it is easy to navigate on foot. 

On top of that, the majority of the most popular attractions in town are located within just one mile of the port, so walking is really easy. Some of the town’s hotels and tour operators also provide complimentary shuttles to and from the port.

If you choose to walk from the port into the downtown area, a waterfront walking path makes it easy, even with luggage and daypacks.

The Intermodal Hub and Alaska Railroad

For those interested in exploring Alaska by rail, Seward Cruise Port offers a unique feature—it sits adjacent to the Alaska Railroad. This means passengers can easily transition from traveling by cruise ship to railcar or vice versa.

Walk Around Seward Waterfront Park

You don’t have to travel outside Seward to enjoy stunning views of Alaska’s Iconic nature. Seward Waterfront Park stretches 5 miles from the harbor to the above-mentioned Alaska SeaLife Center, so you can combine a visit to the facility with a pleasant stroll along the water. With views of the distant mountains and the water, you won’t regret it!

The park entrance is located right at the edge of the port, making walking incredibly easy. If you walk along the path, you’ll also see the Trail Landmarks Statue, which marks the original starting point for the world-famous Iditarod Race.

The park’s boundaries begin just one mile away from Seward, so it makes sense why visiting is such a popular activity. In fact, there is even a National Park Service Visitor Center for the Kenai Fjords National Park located just a short walk from the port.

These majestic waters and well-preserved fjords are home to some of Alaska’s most iconic species, including orcas. If you’re looking to see Alaska’s Rugged beauty first-hand, the park is the ideal place to do so.

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has collaborated with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to implement facial biometric technology at the Canada Place cruise terminal. The initiative marks the first use of such technology in a Canadian seaport for the embarkation of cruise passengers.

The technology automates the manual checks of travel documents for passengers entering the U.S., like those heading to Alaska, by comparing their live photo with the one in their pre-trip documentation within seconds.

Peter Xotta, president and CEO of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, emphasized the benefits of the new system. “We’re excited to partner with U.S. authorities to implement this state-of-the-art passenger processing technology, which will help us provide a fast, secure, and convenient experience for passengers embarking on a cruise.”

The newly introduced technology replaces the automatic passport kiosks that were installed at Canada Place in 2015. Developed by Pangiam, the technology uses an advanced computer vision and AI to ensure accurate, real-time facial recognition. The system takes a photo of each passenger during the boarding process, which is then matched against the photo from their travel documents.

“Technologies being deployed in Vancouver have been purpose-built to enhance passenger experience, terminal efficiency, and border security,” said Kevin McAleen, president of BigBear.ai, which owns Pangiam.

Passengers who prefer not to use the new biometric system can opt out by informing a representative at the primary inspection point and will then undergo a manual document check.

Facial Biometric Technology Gains Traction

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has been installing facial biometric technology at airports in the U.S. since 2019, according to the New York Times. Now found at more than 30 airports, facial biometric technology is also already at use at 20 U.S. cruise terminals for debarkation, including New Orleans, Louisiana; the Port of Portland, Maine; Bayonne, New Jersey; Brooklyn and New York City, New York; and multiple ports across Florida.

The technology, which can identify passengers within two seconds, has a reported 98% accuracy rate.

The integration of the technology at Canada Place is expected to significantly decrease wait times and enhance the efficiency of the boarding process for the 1.27 million passengers anticipated to visit in 2024.

Multiple cruise lines are in favor of utilizing facial recognition technology. For example, Royal Caribbean’s $247-million terminal at PortMiami, which opened in November 2023, uses the technology for its “frictionless boarding process.”

“Technology plays a huge part in our everyday existence, and so you need to start building the technology into the experience,” Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, told Digital Travel Summit. “It’s happening with the airlines; it’s happening with the cruise lines; it’s an inevitable journey.

Carnival Cruise Lines, which utilizes the technology at the majority of its U.S. homeports, including Port Canaveral in Fort Lauderdale, PortMiami, Port of Galveston in Texas, and the Port of Long Beach California, said the debarkation process has expedited by an average of 30 percent following the installation.

“Through our partnership with Carnival Cruise Line, we will continue to transform cruise operations by leveraging technology and enhanced processes while also strengthening our data sharing agreement to further secure U.S. seaports,” said Diane J. Sabatino, acting executive assistant commissioner, Office of Field Operations for the CBP.

In Europe, the European Commission will introduce biometric technology for facial and fingerprint recognition at all cruise ports beginning in October 2024.

First International Cruise Line Begins Homeport Operations From Indonesia

Since its founding just two years ago in 2022, Resorts World Cruises has carved out a spot for itself as the leader of the Asian cruise market. 

Along the way, the young brand has accomplished many milestones – and its newest ship, Resorts World One, has once again made history with her inaugural call on Jakarta, Indonesia, on June 16, 2024. Her arrival marks the first time an international cruise line is homeporting in the country.

The cruise line only recently acquired the 1,856-passenger ship from Dream Cruise Line in 2023 as the second ship in its small but mighty fleet. 

Jakarta, which is home to famous landmarks like the Monas Tower, Istiqlal Mosque, and Jakarta Cathedral, celebrated the debut of the 75,338 gross-ton cruise ship with much fanfare. 

The festive event was attended by more than 250 guests, including representatives from the cruise line, local government officials, members of the media and key influencers, and professionals from the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Tourism. 

“On behalf of the Ministry of Transportation, we would like to congratulate Resorts World Cruises on being the first international cruise line to establish a homeport in Indonesia with the arrival of the Resorts World One,” said Captain Hendri Ginting M.M. , Director of Marine Safety & Seafarers, Directorate General of Sea Transportation, Ministry of Transportation. 

“The presence of the Resorts World One will not only stimulate the local economy, but also enrich the diversity of our tourism destinations. With the luxurious accommodations and world-class facilities, Resorts World One will attract a new segment of cruise passengers from both within and outside the country,” continued the captain.

Local authorities hope that the arrival of Resorts World One will encourage other cruise lines to consider homeporting in Jakarta, thus furthering the country’s foreign exchange through the variety of tourists visiting and boosting the local economy further. 

Resort World One’s Inaugural Season In Jakarta 

While Resort World One’s debut in Jakarta is impactful, her season in the Indonesian region will be rather brief. She will remain at her current homeport from June 16, 2024, until July 1, 2024 – which is only about a month.

During her stay, the vessel will operate four round-trip cruises embarking on June 16, June 21, June 26, and July 1. Each sailing will call on Singapore and Kuala Lumpur (the capital of Malaysia), and will spend two days cruising at sea. 

Resorts World Cruises was designed to create a luxurious at-sea experience for Asian passengers, with the experience carefully cultivated from the way the gourmet food is prepared to the 35-meter over-water zipline – so the itinerary builds in time to enjoy the amenities on board.

The ship will then operate a two-night cruise from Jakarta to Singapore that embarks on July 6, 2024, with no port calls included. 

Once in Singapore, the pride of the fleet will sail on a 4-night voyage to Keelung in northern Taiwan, again with no port calls included on the itinerary. 

Keelung will then serve as the 1999-launched vessel’s home base for the majority of July, August, and September, offering a series of 2 to 5-night sailings, primarily to Japanese cruise ports like Kumamoto and Kagoshima.

Meanwhile, Genting Dream, the 3,352-guest ship that originally launched the Asia-based cruise line, is primarily homeporting in Singapore and Port Klang, Malaysia, with most sailings calling on whichever port the cruise didn’t embark from, as well as Penang, Malaysia. 

Both ships are currently offering discounted booking rates in honor of Resort World Cruises’ second anniversary, which just recently passed in May.

Princess Cruises’ New Dining Reservation System Delayed

Princess Cruises announced a delay in the launch of its new dining reservation system, citing an unforeseen holdup in the Princess Cruises App update as the cause. Originally scheduled to launch on June 17, 2024, the new date for guests to make dining reservations is now set for July 1, 2024.

The cruise line said in a letter sent to guests, “We wanted to inform you of a change regarding our main dining reservations. Due to an unanticipated delay in finalizing our app update, the ability to book reservations has been delayed. The new date for reservation is now set for July 1.“

Starting September 14, 2024, the cruise line is introducing reorganized dining arrangements across its fleet. This includes the separation of dining rooms aboard each ship to better cater to various guest preferences for mealtimes and settings.

The options available to guests will include Traditional Dining with early and late seatings, Reservable Dining times to accommodate planned meals, and open seating to support Walk-in Anytime dining.

The cruise line expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the reservation delay. In a statement to cruise passengers.

Princess Cruises said, “Once updates are complete, you will be able to use the app ahead of your voyage to opt for traditional seating in a dedicated dining room with the same waiter, same table, and same time each night, or flexible dining, allowing you to enjoy dinner at any available time and table size of your choosing in either the Reservable or Open Seating dining rooms.”

Guests immediately took to social media to comment about the delay noting the ability to book specialty dining venues is also not yet functional, and that the app delay is also affecting passenger reservations on sailings before the September 14 rollout. 

Princess Cruises launched its updated app in December 2023, replacing the older MedallionClass version. Available since then on Google Play and the App Store, the overhaul included renaming services like “Dine My Way” to “Reservations” and “JourneyView” to “My Journey.” However, the new app and its updates continue to cause hiccups, like the delay in the new reservation system.

Passengers scheduled to depart before or near the new July 1 rollout may be forced to make their dining choices on the day of embarkation. This could lead to longer wait times at dining venues and adds an element of uncertainty for passengers who prefer to have their schedules organized before boarding.

Expanded Dining Choices for Princess Cruises

Princess Cruises announced the overhaul to its dining services in April following the successful dining model first implemented on the Sphere-class Sun Princess, which set on its inaugural voyage in February 2024.

The newly revamped dining options include Traditional Dining to maintain the familiar setup of assigned waiters, tables, and dining times, catering to guests who prefer consistency in their dining experience, a Reservable option that allows guests to pre-book their dining times, and a Walk-in Anytime choice enabling guests to dine at any available time and table without the need for reservations.

The transition forced the cruise line to cancel all existing main dining reservations for voyages sailing on or after September 14, 2024, with the exception of those booked on Sun Princess.

Reservations at specialty dining areas such as Crown Grill steakhouse, Sabatini’s Italian Trattoria, and the seven-course 360 and Chef’s Table experiences were not affected by the changes and cancellations, but passengers are reporting the app is not allowing them to book specialty restaurants at this time.

Once the app is functional, passengers will be able to book their preferred dining style, with the Main Dining Rooms, known for their all-inclusive, multi-course gourmet meals in a restaurant-style setting, segmented into these three new categories.

Due to space limitations, Coral Princess and Island Princess will combine the Reservable and Walk-in Anytime Dining Options into a single Main Dining Room.
