One Major Cruise Line Now Discouraging Cruising Ducks

Many frequent cruisers are familiar with the cruising ducks phenomenon, but one major cruise line now has a policy discouraging the guest-led scavenger hunt. Disney Cruise Line is requesting that guests not hide the ducks in either public areas or staterooms, which effectively eliminates the activity.

Disney Cruise Line Not Supporting Cruising Ducks

Cruise ducks can be a fun game onboard nearly any cruise ship, but guests sailing with Disney Cruise Line will now have fewer opportunities to either hide or find these quirky keepsakes. In response to passenger inquiries, the cruise line has confirmed that they prefer guests not hide ducks around their ships.

While bringing rubber ducks onboard is not strictly prohibited – the small toys are not on Disney Cruise Line’s prohibited or restricted items list – the cruise line does not encourage the practice of hiding ducks for others to find.

“According to our policy, guests are allowed to bring rubber ducks onboard,” Disney Cruise Line said. “However, it’s important to note that pool toys, including rubber ducks, are not permitted to be used in the pools. Additionally, we kindly request that guests not hide items such as rubber ducks in public areas or staterooms.”

While not strictly prohibited, the “kind request” amounts to a prohibition on the fun game that many cruise travelers enjoy. No further details about why Disney Cruise Line discourages the practice have been released or confirmed.

Because travelers who participate in cruising ducks often take great pains to be stealthy about where, when, and how they hide the small trinkets, it is unlikely that any strong measures, such as fines or bans from future cruises would be taken against those who hide or find ducks onboard Disney cruise ships.

It is always important to abide by cruise line’s policies, however, and guests taking Disney cruises should leave their ducks at home.

Furthermore, because Disney Cruise Line has discouraged the ducks, disregarding the request not to hide ducks and doing so anyway will just make more work for crew members, who will need to be collecting and discarding the ducks. All cruise travelers know that crew members are incredibly hard-working already, and it is best to avoid giving them more work.

Other Cruise Lines’ Reactions

It should be noted that hiding and finding rubber ducks on cruise ships is not an official activity aboard any cruise line, but rather is a guest-driving, voluntary scavenger hunt, similar to geocaching or painted rocks.

While Disney Cruise Line is the first to gently discourage the game, no cruise line has explicitly banned ducks with enforceable consequences. This would be difficult to do, as the ducks are not often labelled with guests’ names or identifying details, though some travelers add tags or “passports” that show the cruise date, line, or ship with a fun message about the game.

Other cruise lines have either not reacted to the cruising ducks fad, or have commented on it in a relatively unofficial capacity.

The phenomenon started aboard Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Breeze in March 2018, and has grown to be found on all major cruise lines to varying degrees. Carnival Cruise Line has reacted to the game with their typical fun and easy-going attitude.

“Many of the crew love finding the ducks and have them in their cabins as they bring them cheer,” said John Heald, Carnival Cruise Line brand ambassador. “We have absolutely no problem with guests leaving them as we do think it’s fun.”

Other cruise lines have no official policy on cruise ducks, but no cruise line outright bans the small toys either. Have you hidden or found any cruise ducks onboard a ship? Share your experiences on the Cruise Hive boards!

Taylor Swift Themed Cruise Taking Over Royal Caribbean Ship

It won’t be a “cruel summer” for Taylor Swift fans! On January 4, 2024, Quality Travel announced the Summer Era Cruise – a five-night cruise celebrating Taylor Swift and her music designed by Swifties for Swifties.

Taylor Swift Fans Charter Royal Caribbean Ship For Themed Cruise

First, the Eras Tour swept the nation, becoming a global phenomenon. Now, the hype of the Eras Tour is coming to the ocean for five nights of Swiftie heaven at sea.

Quality Travel has announced a one-time only Summer Era Cruise embarking from Galveston, Texas, on June 15, 2024 on Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas.

The Taylor Swift-themed cruise will sail to the western Caribbean, calling on Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico, before returning to Galveston on June 20, 2024.

Quality Travel is an award-winning travel agency based in Texas. It was founded by Rebecca Landry, who is a self-identified Taylor Swift fan. Landry is co-hosting the cruise with her husband, Steve, her daughter, Parker, and sons Blake and Bryce – all of whom are fans.

The cruise is meant to be the ultimate Swiftie experience for Taylor Swift’s followers, although the singer-songwriter will not be on board or appearing at any of the ports. It is a fan-sponsored event that is not endorsed or affiliated with Taylor Swift or TASRM.

During the cruise, Swift will be performing on an international leg of The Eras Tour, with concerts scheduled in the UK during the same week.

That said, there will be many activities on board dedicated to the star, such as friendship bracelet exchanges (a popular activity at the Eras Tour concerts), goody bags, trivia, themed bingo, karaoke, dance parties, and door decorating contests.

“My goal is to spread her name and music by creating genuine, enjoyable activities that represent all her music stands for and the things she has done like the Eras tour,” says Parker, Landry’s daughter and cruise co-host.

“We won’t just have a dance party; each activity will be based on a piece of her work or music, like Mirrorball, Lover, or bracelet making,” adds Parker.

Pricing for the themed cruise starts at $863.64 (USD) per person for interior cabins and peaks at $1,426.64 for oceanview balcony rooms. Swiftie Swag Bags and insurance are available for an additional fee. Booking is available until March 1, 2024.

Swiftie Cruise To Embark on Mariner of the Seas

For their themed getaway, the Taylor Swift fans of Quality Travel have chartered Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas. The Royal Caribbean cruise ship can accommodate 3,344 passengers and 1,185 crew members at maximum capacity.

For the purpose of this themed cruise, the ship has been chartered, meaning any other previously scheduled itineraries that conflicted with the dates or passengers who are not part of the themed cruise would have been cancelled to give Swifties the full run of the ship.

Prior to the Summer Era Cruise, Mariner of the Seas will be sailing on four to five-night cruises throughout the Western Caribbean and the Bahamas.

The ship will also host a seven-night Star Trek cruise to Curacao and Aruba beginning on February 22, 2024, followed by a seven-night 80s-themed cruise to the same destinations beginning on February 29, 2024.

Carnival Pushes Two Cruise Destinations Past One Million Passengers

With the help of the Carnival Cruise Line ships, two popular cruise destinations managed to welcome over 1 million cruise passengers in 2023. Amber Cove, Carnival’s private destination in the Dominican Republic, and Ensenada, Mexico, celebrated the massive achievement by the end of the year.

The achievement underlines that cruise tourism is on the rise and becoming more popular. The significant number of cruise passengers has a massive impact on the local economy due to guest spending and job creation for locals.

Celebrations at Amber Cove and Ensenada

When Carnival Cruise Line’s Excel-class cruise ship Mardi Gras arrived at Amber Cove, Dominican Republic, on December 20, the Collier Family was celebrated as the one-millionth guests to arrive at the Carnival-owned destination.

One week later, as Carnival Radiance docked in Ensenada, Mexico, the Andrus Family stepped off the vessel as guests of honor.

“This year, we’re celebrating that no one does fun like Carnival, and it’s also true that no cruise line drives demand and the tourism economy like Carnival! We’re delighted that our guests set these important distinctions for both Amber Cove and Ensenada,” said Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy.

In both cruise ports, local dignitaries were present to celebrate with guests and Carnival Cruise Line officials. Bringing over one million cruise passengers to Ensenada and Amber Cove means the destinations benefit heavily from the economic impact that cruise ships have.

Besides guests spending money on souvenirs, local food and drinks, and tours, there is also significant income generation due to provisioning, port fees, and job creation.

Amber Cove: Carnival’s Caribbean Haven

Operational since 2015, Amber Cove has two berths to hold two large cruise ships simultaneously and can handle up to 8,000 passengers daily. Owned and operated by Carnival Corporation, the resort is open to all the company’s brands, including Princess, Holland America, Seabourn, AIDA, Costa, and more.

“Amber Cove is one of the best destinations in the Caribbean. Our guests love the relaxation and adventure they find here and that’s why many of our ships visit Amber Cove,” Christine Duffy said.

David Collado, the Dominican Republic’s Minister of Tourism, congratulated the cruise destination on reaching this milestone, acknowledging the significant growth and benefits it brings to the Puerto Plata region.

“We congratulate the Amber Cove cruise terminal for reaching one million cruise visitors. This represents unstoppable growth for Puerto Plata and its people who directly receive the benefits of these achievements.” said the Dominican Republic’s Minister of Tourism, David Collado.

Carnival Horizon, Carnival Freedom, Carnival Celebration, Carnival Magic, Mardi Gras, and Carnival Venezia have regular calls to Amber Cove in 2024, where guests can indulge in a range of activities from relaxing poolside to excursions like snorkeling and waterfall adventures.

Rich History and Vibrant Culture

Carnival’s relationship with Ensenada, Mexico, spans nearly three decades. Known for its historical landmarks and thrilling activities like ATV riding, Ensenada has evolved into a vibrant destination offering a blend of culinary delights, cultural experiences, and exploration of the nearby wine country.

“Ensenada is a quaint coastal town that has grown into a strong part of our West Coast offerings. Our guests love its rich history and vibrant culture, with the addition of Carnival Firenze joining our fleet this spring, plus some exciting plans under development, we see even better things ahead for the destination,” Duffy added.

Carnival Firenze will join Carnival Cruise Line in April 2024. Sailing from Long Beach, California, Carnival Firenze will offer a range of itineraries, including four-day cruises to Catalina Island and Ensenada, and five-day Mexican Riviera cruises calling in Cabo San Lucas and Ensenada. Carnival Miracle, Carnival Radiance, and Carnival Panorama make regular calls to Ensenada.

Royal Caribbean Partners With World’s Largest Live Music Event

Royal Caribbean International has become an official partner of the Eurovision Song Contest for 2024 and 2025, helping bring to life vibrant musicians and amazing entertainment right at the start of the cruise line’s next two European sailing seasons. Both the contest and the cruises will be memorable experiences for guests, blending culture and music globally for outstanding entertainment.

Royal Caribbean and Eurovision

Music is an amazing part of any cruise vacation, from a wide range of live musicians performing onboard to energetic DJ parties to outstanding musical numbers in theater production shows.

Royal Caribbean is now taking music to the next level by becoming an Official Partner for the Eurovision Song Contest, an iconic, annual event that first debuted in 1956 and has grown more popular every year.

Eurovision is the longest-running international televised music competition, according to Guinness World Records, and is one of the most watched non-sporting events. The event is organized annually by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and in 2023, reached more than 170 million viewers. Over the years, more than 50 countries have joined the competition.

“As two world-renowned brands that are known for delivering memorable moments to millions across the globe, the combination of Royal Caribbean International and Eurovision Song Contest makes the ultimate partnership that will bring to life the very best of world-class live entertainment and a fusion of cultures from all over,” said Ben Bouldin, vice president of Europe, Middle East and Africa, Royal Caribbean International.

Royal Caribbean and Eurovision
Royal Caribbean and Eurovision

“With more than 60 historic years of the Eurovision Song Contest, we’re proud to partner with an iconic brand that has a global audience, which only continues to grow with the popularity of an event that has become a cultural moment for so many around the world.”

With Royal Caribbean partnering with the contest for both 2024 and 2025, this puts the cruise line in a prime position for marketing visibility and showcasing European sailings each summer.

In 2024, for example, six Royal Caribbean ships will offer a variety of European itineraries, offering departures from eight homeports. In 2025, the cruise line is offering even more options, with European sailings ranging from 2-12 nights to suit any traveler’s vacation plans.

Uniting Cultures

The contest is renowned for the diversity of its musicians and musical styles, and is an entertaining way for music fans to discover new genres, uncover hidden artists, and enjoy an immense array of musical talent.

“The Eurovision Song Contest and Royal Caribbean share a passion for creating unforgettable experiences that unite people from all around the world,” said Martin Österdahl, Executive Supervisor for the Eurovision Song Contest. “We look forward to making new memories for our fans and guests alike and can’t wait to set sail together on this new adventure!”

This blends well with Royal Caribbean’s own diversity, offering live music and entertainment on four unique types of presentations on different ships in the fleet – classic theater productions, as well as air, ice, and water shows, depending on each vessel’s facilities.

So popular are Royal Caribbean’s shows that on larger ships, guests must reserve seats for various performances, due to capacity limitations in various theaters. Shows are often filled to capacity, but standby lines do accommodate passengers without reservations if seats remain available close to showtime.

On longer sailings, multiple performances of the same show are often planned in order to give more guests the opportunity to see the incredible work of the amazing singers, dancers, acrobats, contortionists, aerialists, musicians, soloists, and other performers.

With great sailings in Europe for the next two years and a partnership with such a fabulous contest, Royal Caribbean is certainly upping its music game for everyone to enjoy.

Are Changes Coming to Carnival Cruise Line’s Signature Dessert?

Carnival Cruise Line’s signature dessert, its exquisite warm melting chocolate cake, may be undergoing some changes. Guests onboard various ships in recent weeks have reported different sizes and shapes of the wildly popular dessert, which may indicate some testing for changes in the coming months.

Changes Spotted to Melting Chocolate Cake

Frequent Carnival Cruise Line guests know there is no more decadent dessert onboard than the cruise line’s signature Carnival Melting Chocolate Cake, a rich ramekin of molten lusciousness topped with a dusting of powdered sugar and served with a side of vanilla ice cream.

Traditionally served in white ceramic ramekins, the cake can range from a very fluid warm lava to more fully cooked, spongy cake. For most guests, the proverbial sweet spot is somewhere in between, with a bit of firmer cake on the outer edges, a slight crust to break through, and a center filled with oozing, ooey-gooey sweetness.

Onboard different ships recently, however, guests have been surprised to find their melting chocolate cakes dramatically reduced in size and now served in significantly smaller dishes, only slightly larger than the ice cream scoops that traditionally accompany the cake.

Another variation that has been spotted is the cake served in more of an oblong, oval-shaped dish, much shallower than the classic ramekin.

The different dishes have been spotted recently on Carnival Magic, Carnival Glory, Carnival Horizon, and Mardi Gras, and may also be in use on other ships across the fleet.

Why Does Size Matter?

Different dishes and dish sizes can make a significant difference in how these delicious cakes are baked. Smaller or flatter dishes, which contain less batter, could be more easily overcooked, losing the “melting” quality so key for the outstanding dessert. This can lead to great inconsistency in the cake’s texture, which can be disappointing to some guests.

At the same time, smaller dishes may be welcome to other passengers as a means to better help with portion control of a dessert that undoubtedly contains a frightening number of calories. These cakes include both semi-sweet chocolate and milk chocolate, as well as additional sugar, butter, eggs, and flour, not to mention the ice cream the dessert is served with.

Depending on overall portion size and the exact ingredients used, one serving of Carnival Melting Chocolate Cake can have as many as 800 or more calories, according to the cruise line’s recipe.

With smaller servings, conscientious guests can still indulge in this phenomenal treat without going overboard, and there may be less food waste as a result, which can lead to savings for the cruise line.

Of course, it is also possible that the recent sightings of different dishes and dessert sizes are simply coincidence, with different ships having a variety of dishes on hand and using what is available to ensure all guests can enjoy this amazing treat. Carnival Melting Chocolate Cake is featured nightly on the Main Dining Room dessert menu on every vessel in the Carnival fleet.

The Perfect Carnival Melting Chocolate Cake

There are simple ways to ensure you get the perfect Carnival Melting Chocolate Cake whenever you set sail. First, if you have a preference for firmer or meltier cakes, simply let your server know with a polite request, and they will try to get you the perfectly cooked cake for your tastes.

Carnival's Chocolate Melting Cake
Video Footage By: John Heald

While the cake is traditionally served with vanilla ice cream, you can also request different sides. If you enjoy Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, for example, ask for a side of peanut butter with your melting cake for a gourmet take that will astound your taste buds. If you want a bit more chocolate (there’s no such thing as too much!), you can ask for chocolate ice cream on the side.

Want a bit more cake to enjoy? You can always order two as there is no charge for multiple desserts, unlike the surcharge for additional entrees. If one serving is a bit much, however, you can always share the treat with someone special.

Personally, I prefer a middle-of-the-road cake, firm on the outside but still wonderfully melty on the inside, with the classic vanilla ice cream as a flavor and temperature contrast. While one is enough for me each evening, I can’t help but enjoy several during every Carnival cruise!

Royal Caribbean’s World Cruise Has Flooding Just 3 Weeks Into Voyage

Royal Caribbean International’s Ultimate World Cruise has hit its first significant glitch just 24 days after departing Miami, Florida.

Dramatic flooding has been recorded onboard, with streams of water flowing down corridors, soaking carpet, and flooding balconies. But will this problem cause ongoing issues for the epic 274-night sailing?

Flooding Onboard Royal Caribbean Ultimate World Cruise

Videos from the much-talked-about Ultimate World Cruise aboard Royal Caribbean’s Serenade of the Seas have shown massive flooding on Deck 12. Water has been streaming in from one side of the ship and flowing to the other, pooling in the corridor and so deep along the way that currents and ripples can be seen as loose debris floats away.

The flooding is the result of stormy weather with strong winds as the ship makes her way down the coast of Brazil and Uruguay, between her port visits to Rio de Janeiro on December 31 and Montevideo on January 4.

You can watch the video below, which was posted by Adita and has already gained over 1.1 million views:

In that region, wind speeds over the past day have peaked at 20-30 miles per hour (32-48 kilometers per hour), with gusts as high as 35 mph (56 kph). Combined with the ship’s motion, this could mean relative wind speeds of 60 mph (96 kph) or greater depending on wind direction and the ship’s heading.

These strong winds are driving rain and sea spray into the ship, flooding the outside deck and the water then flows through exterior doors on Deck 12 and into the hall. Guests with balconies are also experiencing similar flooding on their balconies.

When the seas calm and the winds die down, the excess water on deck and on balconies will drain through various outlets back into the ocean. Meanwhile, crew members are working to minimize water intrusion, and the ship’s forward elevators are temporarily closed in case of damage or water.

Undoubtedly, interior measures will also be taken, such as squeegeeing the water back out to the deck and using industrial fans to quickly dry out carpeting. While the issue is ongoing, certain public corridors may also be closed.

It is important to note that at this time, only one section of Deck 12 seems to be experiencing these problems. The 90,090-gross-ton, Radiance-class Serenade of the Seas actually has 13 total decks (only 12 are accessible to guests), and no other areas of the ship have reported problems.

There is no indication at all of any structural issues with the ship, nor are there any hull breaches or other emergency issues. This flooding – while startling – is simply a result of poor weather, and can happen onboard any cruise ship anywhere in the world.

About the Ultimate World Cruise

This one sailing of Serenade of the Seas is an epic voyage, a total of 274 nights. The ship departed Miami, Florida on Sunday, December 10, 2023, and will not return until September 10, 2024.

Along the way, the ship will be visiting more than 150 ports of call in 65 different countries across all seven continents, including opportunities to see 11 World Wonders, including the Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu, Christ the Redeemer, Petra, Chichen-Itza, the Great Pyramid of Giza, and the Taj Mahal.

Guests who are unable to commit to the entire voyage can also join in different segments. A total of 17 one-way cruises make up the Ultimate World Cruise, ranging from 9-28 nights.

The cruise was announced and bookings opened in late 2021, and great anticipation has been building for the sailing – one of the longest world cruises in history.

With prices starting at $60,000 (USD) per person for the entire cruise for an interior stateroom and starting from $118,600 per person for a Junior Suite, the cost of the epic journey isn’t for everyone, but it will certainly be a voyage to remember.

Norwegian Cruise Line Dining Venue Becomes Complimentary

It’s never been the most popular dining choice onboard the Norwegian Cruise Line ships and has often been empty. So, the choice to make the American Diner a complimentary offering instead of a for-fee dining experience is one that only makes sense.

This transition, which began in early January, is expected to be completed by mid-February across six NCL vessels. The new menu removes some of the more upscale options, such as Lobster Sliders, and aligns the available options with other complimentary dining options across the fleet.

Transition to A Complimentary Dining Experience

Starting January 2, 2024, Norwegian Cruise Line has started with the transition to complimentary lunch and dinner at the American Diner.

The transition will be taking place across the six Breakaway and Breakaway-Plus cruise ships that currently have the specialty dining option available, Norwegian Getaway was the first ship to be included in the transition for the January 2 cruise. Norwegian Escape will be next for its January 6 cruise from Port Canaveral, Florida.

Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Breakaway, and Norwegian Bliss will transition on January 7, and the final ship to transition will be Norwegian Joy on February 13, 2024, as confirmed on the NCL website.

The American Diner, known for its classic Americana atmosphere reminiscent of a classic diner, has never really been the most popular option onboard the Norwegian Cruise Line ships. Menu options have been available in one variation or another across other dining options that are complimentary such as The Local and O’Sheehan’s.

Then again, the changes that NCL will be incorporating in the new menu for the American Diner are largely similar to the menu options at O’Sheehan’s and the Local. Spaghetti and meatballs at the American Diner, or Fettucine Carbonara at O’Sheehan’s. The Wrangler Burger, another staple at O’Sheehan’s will also be featured at the NCL dining venue.

Norwegian Cruise Line American Diner
Norwegian Cruise Line American Diner

The new menu does remove the popular lobster sliders. New starter options include a smoked fish dip, white bean chicken chili, cheese nachos, Caesar Salad and Grecian Salad,

Sandwich options will include a battered fish sandwich, pulled pork sliders, and a chicken salad sandwich. Comfort foods like chicken pot-pie casserole, Lechon Asado, and homemade meatloaf are also on offer.

For dessert, guests have the choice of bread pudding, carrot and walnut cake, and chocolate mousse. Not everything will be complimentary as milkshakes will have a $7 surcharge.

Positive Effect On Dining Traffic

The choice of Norwegian Cruise Line to make the American Diner complimentary will have a positive effect on the other complimentary dining options across the vessels, such as the Garden Cafe, the Main Dining Rooms, and O’Sheehans and Shanghai’s Noodle Bar.

The welcoming atmosphere at the American Diner, with its checkered floors and classic booths, will certainly draw in more guests as a complimentary dining option than it ever did as a paid option.

Norwegian Joy Cruise Ship

At a minimum, it will help relieve some of the pressure on those venues, with the Garden Cafe in particular known to be excessively busy during peak hours for lunch and dinner.

The question remains whether the American Diner will be opening up for complimentary breakfast as well, or even as a 24-hour dining option, although O’Sheehans has that covered already.

The American Diner is only available on the Breakaway and Breakaway-Plus class cruise ships, not on the new Prima-class cruise ships Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva, Norwegian Epic, or any other cruise ships in the fleet.

Norwegian Cruise Line Makes Change for Once-in-a-Lifetime Sailing

Norwegian Cruise Line has notified guests booked on the February 4, 2024 departure of Norwegian Star of a shortened port visit during the coveted sailing that includes scenic cruising in Antarctica.

While the change is relatively minor, it could be a disappointment to guests who are eager for what is often a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit this remote region.

Norwegian Star Itinerary Change

Guests setting sail next month on Norwegian Star for a 14-night South America: Argentina & Chile cruise have been alerted that one of their port calls is being slightly shortened. Norwegian Cruise Line emailed guests of the change so they can plan accordingly.

“We are committed to providing the best vacations at sea and have been working tirelessly to continue to elevate the quality of our offerings and overall guest experience while driving a positive impact on society and the environment,” the email explained. “As we optimize itineraries for fuel efficiencies, we have modified Norwegian Star’s itinerary.”

The impacted sailing departs on Sunday, February 4, 2024, and two small changes have been made to the previously planned schedule. On Friday, February 9, the ship is calling in Punta Arenas, Chile from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. That time remains unchanged from the original itinerary, but now “Cruising Chilean Fjords, Chile” is also listed for that date.

Because there is no time change for the visit to Punta Arenas, the addition to the date is simply clarifying that there will, in fact, be scenic cruising that evening. On February 9, the will set at approximately 9:25 p.m. local time in Punta Arenas, so even though the fjord cruising is later in the day, the views should be spectacular.

The second itinerary adjustment is to the last port of call on the itinerary, Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands on Thursday, February 15. Originally, the ship was scheduled to be in port from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., but now the visit has been trimmed by one hour and Norwegian Star will depart at 3 p.m.

This small change may affect some shore excursions later in the day, but should not have a major impact on options offered in the destination. Passengers who may have arranged their own private tours, however, will want to be sure their tour operator can accommodate an earlier time back to the ship.

No other itinerary changes are indicated at this time, and Norwegian Star will be returning to Buenos Aires, Argentina as originally scheduled on Sunday, February 18.

The 91,740-gross-ton ship is homeported from Buenos Aires offering similar outstanding itineraries through the end of March. Guests booked on similar sailings will want to stay in contact with Norwegian Cruise Line in case their cruises also have slight itinerary modifications.

Norwegian Star can welcome 2,348 guests onboard, and is also home to just over 1,000 international crew members. After her season in South America, she will reposition to Europe to offer a variety of sailings to the British Isles, Scandinavia, Iceland, Greenland, and northern Europe before returning to South America in December 2024.

Will These Itinerary Changes Help?

Such a small in-port time change may not seem significant, but it can be helpful as the cruise line has stated, for “fuel efficiencies” and having a positive impact on the environment. Norwegian Cruise Line has made similar itinerary modifications to various ships and sailings in the Caribbean as well.

By leaving earlier, the ship can cruise at a slightly slower, more efficient speed, lowering overall emissions and minimizing marine noise that can disturb delicate habitats and disrupt wildlife.

In a remote destination like the Falkland Islands, where nature viewing and photography is a main tourist draw, protecting the environment and safeguarding wildlife is critical. By taking simple steps now, Norwegian Cruise Line and other cruise lines are working to ensure that future cruises can also enjoy the region with the same pristine quality and phenomenal viewing opportunities.

Princess Cruises Readies for Record-Breaking Alaska Season

Princess Cruises in 2024 will celebrate two major milestones tied to the Last Frontier State, as it honors the 65th anniversary of Alaska’s statehood and marks the 55th year it has been sailing to the pristine and sought-after destination. Not surprisingly, the cruise line will have a big presence in Alaska during the upcoming summer season.

Princess Cruises to Unveil New Cruisetours in 2024

Princess Cruises in 2024 will offer a series of cruisetours that combine sea voyages with land stays at wilderness lodges and visits to iconic national parks and other popular destinations. In all, 20-plus cruisetours are featured in 2024, taking guests to Denali National Park, Kenai Peninsula, Copper River, Fairbanks, and Anchorage.

The upcoming season will debut two new cruisetours. One is a 15-night National Parks Tour that takes guests to five parks — Glacier Bay, Denali, Wrangell-St. Elias, Kenai Fjords National Parks, and Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. The itinerary combines a 7-day cruise with eight nights on land, and accommodations at Princess Cruises’ lodges.

The second new cruisetour is the 9-day Katmai National Park Tour, offered pre- or post-cruise. The itinerary includes a 7-night sailing and two nights in Anchorage, providing opportunities for guests to see brown bears at Brooks Falls in the national park. Flights between Anchorage and the park are included in the cruisetour fare.

All Princess Cruises’ voyages to Alaska feature the line’s North to Alaska cultural immersion programs, which include guest interaction with local people, educational activities about the state’s history and traditions, and the availability of Alaskan seafood for onboard dining.

For youngsters, the Alaska Explorer’s Youth Program offers a Junior Ranger experience, in partnership with the Glacier Bay National Park Rangers.

Looking ahead, Princess Cruises has rolled out its plans for its 2025 season as well, offering 150-plus departures on seven ships sailing from five homeports. Also in 2025, the line will feature some 25 cruisetours.
