Carnival Planning Special Holiday Menu With Irish Theme

There can be no better place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than at sea with an oceangoing getaway that will make your friends and family members at home green with envy.

Carnival Cruise Line is making their St. Patrick’s celebrations even better with a new Irish-inspired menu that will be available across the entire fleet on March 17, 2025.

While the cruise line often offers special holiday menus for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s, new themed menus have begun to debut for other holidays. Following the recent Valentine’s Lunch menu, Carnival will now be offering a special, one-day-only St. Patrick’s Day dinner.

“Here is the brand new Irish traditional menu that will be offered across the fleet on St. Patrick’s Day,” John Heald, Carnival Cruise Line’s Brand Ambassador, announced.

The new menu offers starters, entrees, and a special dessert, each featuring delicious Irish inspiration.

To whet the appetite and engage the taste buds, guests can choose from three shamrock-worthy starters. Corned beef muffins with cheddar cheese, potatoes, leeks, and chives are a rich option, or guests could try the fish chowder with shrimp, mussels, scallops, and clams, served with soda bread.

For a lighter beginning, the Irish pub salad is a delicious choice with green lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, and cheddar cheese.

Moving on to entrees, two selections have delicious connections to the Emerald Isle. First, the classic beef pot roast with roasted potatoes, celery, peas, and carrots topped with beef gravy is comfort food at its finest. For a bit lighter choice, the salmon with dill sauce served with roasted vegetables is sure to be packed with flavor.

While it’s interesting that corned beef and cabbage is not featured on the menu, the pot roast certainly has classic Irish flair.

It wouldn’t be a holiday without finishing a meal with something sweet. For dessert, the themed menu will feature Bailey’s cheesecake with an Oreo cookie crumble and whiskey caramel.

St. Patrick's Day Carnival Menu
St. Patrick’s Day Carnival Menu

I have to say, my very first ever cruise was aboard Carnival Fascination that departed Miami on St. Patrick’s Day, and while our dinner menu was delicious, it wasn’t nearly as themed and exciting as these holiday specialties!

If these choices don’t quite tempt guests’ tastebuds, however, other classic menu selections will still be available. This will include appetizers, entrees, and desserts, as well as vegetarian and vegan selections.

Some themed foods are also sure to be served at the Lido Marketplace buffet, but they may not be the same options as the Main Dining Room menu.

Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day Onboard Carnival Cruises

Everyone can feel a little bit Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, and there are sure to be special activities and themed fun across the Carnival fleet on Monday, March 17.

Guests could start their day with a hearty “top o’ the mornin’!” and specialty Irish coffee to wake up with the spirit of the leprechaun and have enough energy for all the fun.

Irish-themed trivia contests, jig-dancing lessons, a leprechaun or four-leafed clover scavenger hunt, green-themed party, Irish music, drink specials, and more could all be part of the onboard activity schedule.

Each ship’s photographers will also be out in full force to capture all the fun, and special green, rainbow, or holiday-themed backdrops may be available, as well as special borders on photos taken that day.

Of course, exact activities will vary on different ships and may depend on whether the ship is in port or enjoying a day at sea. Guests should check the Carnival Hub app or their Fun Times newsletter for exact activities and times.

Guests can also make their own fun by decorating their stateroom door with a St. Patrick’s Day theme, or even chasing their own pot of gold (and hoping for the luck of the Irish) by spending time in the casino. How will you celebrate?

Do Short Carnival Cruises Deserve to Have a Bad Reputation?

Shorter cruises – which are typically defined as sailings under seven days or weekend getaway voyages – often get a bad reputation.

It’s true that many in the cruising community think that a shorter cruise equates to rowdier passengers onboard, with some associating these sailings – which they call “booze cruises” – with getting drunk and bad behavior.

This term seems to come up a lot when thinking about shorter cruises operated by Carnival Cruise Lines’ “Fun Ships.” But is this accurate? That’s something one Carnival fan wanted to find out once and for all.

“Apologies if this comes off as insensitive, but genuinely curious. I heard that the shorter 4-day cruises tend to attract more rowdy and drunk people, wondering if anyone has had any safety concerns while being on these shorter cruises. Please correct me if I’m wrong,” they asked on Reddit.

As a more budget friendly cruise line, Carnival’s shorter sailings are often seen as more accessible for the working class who want to take a quick break from reality and let loose onboard – but might not be able to sail with a luxury brand.

Carnival does have a bit of a reputation for attracting big partiers and guests from this crowd who are eager to meet the 15-drink daily limit set by the Cheers! Drink Package

That said, all crew members – and especially the bartenders and onboard security team – work together to make sure guests stay safe and aren’t becoming too intoxicated

At the end of last year, the brand also launched a search to fill two new security positions that were specifically designed to monitor alcohol consumption onboard and to protect guests under 18.

I’ll admit I had my own hesitations when I first sailed on a 3-night Carnival cruise over a weekend in the fall of 2024, as I had also heard about rowdiness and the occasional brawl in the past.

While I did encounter some passengers who were certainly drinking, I never felt unsafe and I didn’t have any trouble finding more mellow parts of the ship to relax.

Pushing Back Against Shorter Cruises

With more than 31 million cruisers taking to the high seas each year, it’s only natural that everyone will have a different experience – which can even be true of guests sailing onboard the same ship.

But ultimately, most Carnival fans in the Reddit community were like me and didn’t feel unsafe while partaking in shorter sailings – with some noting that they made sure not to get overly intoxicated themselves so that they could stay in control of their situation.

“I have never felt unsafe. You just have a few more partying people on the shorter weekend cruises. But it doesn’t bother me for other people to be having fun,” one person replied to the original post.

“The drunkies tend to congregate in certain areas like the pool or event areas like sports bars. Having said [that] you are able to steer clear if that isn’t your scene. But have never felt unsafe nor have I witnessed fights,” another person chimed in.

The time of year may also make a difference for the vibe onboard. For example, I sailed on a weekend during off season and a time of year when kids are in school and I had no trouble relaxing.

Sailing during peak travel seasons, such as summer break or the winter holidays, may result in more crowds and a more celebratory atmosphere.

There is also an argument to be made that there might not be enough time to explore everything the cruise ship has to offer in a shorter time period – particularly with growing complaints that Carnival sailings have become more crowded.

On a ship like Carnival Jubilee – which is the most recent addition to the fleet and the largest – up to 6,631-passengers could be competing with each other to take advantage of the unique amenities and entertainment onboard.

Royal Caribbean Guest Accidentally Forgets Suitcase in PortMiami

It’s always frustrating when your luggage gets lost – but what happens when your bag wasn’t misplaced, but simply forgotten?

One recent Royal Caribbean passenger is finding this out the hard way after mistakenly leaving Florida’s PortMiami without one of her checked bags.

“I forgot a bag at the terminal in Miami…I realized my mistake when I got to MIA. I felt it was too late to go back for the bag,” the cruiser admitted on Reddit.

If the unidentified guest had realized her mistake prior to leaving the port, she perhaps could have spoken to port staff to re-enter Terminal A – which is the terminal used by Royal Caribbean.

In most cases, guests can re-enter a cruise terminal after exiting, but would likely need to go through the security check points a second time.

Unfortunately, she did not realize her error until she arrived at the Miami International Airport (MIA) – when it was too late to go back.

She also enjoyed a post-cruise excursion before heading to the airport. So by this point, the woman and her son needed to catch a flight and several hours had likely passed.

From the airport, she tracked her bag using AirTags she had packed and found the item was no longer at the cruise terminal either.

“I have made my AirTag discoverable and updated the Chargerback site with the last whereabouts of my bag… Which, interestingly enough, is on a road…not in the terminal,” she added.

Most likely, Royal Caribbean or port authorities were relocating her forgotten suitcase to a secure location until it could be reunited with its owner.

Additionally, the baggage pick-up zones in Terminal A likely needed to be cleared for upcoming cruise ship calls.

In addition to Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises and Silversea Cruises also operate out of this busy terminal – both of which are brands owned by Royal Caribbean

A Simple Mistake – But Now What?

Disembarkation day can be hectic. You’re tired after your cruise vacation and can feel rushed to get off the ship and to catch a flight or make it to your next destination.

In the case of this RCL guest, she also checked her carry-on suitcase – which is not something she normally does. The break in her routine was forgotten in the stress of the morning.

“Why did I forget a bag, you might well ask. Well, ‘normally’ I keep my carry-on bag with me. Last night I decided to leave it with my big suitcase for the porters to handle. This being out of the ordinary (for me), I completely forgot I had a second bag to gather,” the guest explained.

So, what happens now? The cruiser has thus far contacted Royal Caribbean and was told that she will need to go through the process of filling out a “lost item” report.

She said: “Royal finally called me back, then informed me my only course of action was the lost item report. ‘Our agents will contact you in seven to ten days…’

Per Royal Caribbean’s website, the guest would have needed to fill out a short form through Chargerback.com to initiate the lost and found process – which can be completed online.

The form asks simple questions to try to locate the missing item, such as the date it was lost, sail dates, and where the item was last seen.

“We will make every attempt to locate the items and return it to you. If found, all items will be shipped to the guest at their expense at a price determined by the courier company,” Royal Caribbean’s policy states.

“Due to Customs and other factors, there may be a delay in shipping, or some items may not be deliverable,” Royal Caribbean’s website continues.

In the Reddit community where this guest sought advice, the passenger was told not to beat herself up too much about the mistake and to try not to stress while the “lost and found” process gets underway.

Cruise Ships Rerouted to Avoid Tropical Cyclone

Cruise ships are adjusting and informing guests as a tropical cyclone heads for the Sunshine Coast in Australia.

Unfortunately for P&O Cruises’ Pacific Encounter, Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Sun, and Cunard’s all-new Queen Anne, the Port of Brisbane has closed due to Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

The good news for two of these ships is that they can simply reroute — while the other remains at port.

Norwegian Sun has rerouted to Cairns — while Queen Anne is heading to Airlie Beach where it will arrive March 4, shifting its schedule on its 111-night inaugural world cruise.

Meanwhile, the 108,865 gross ton Pacific Encounter spent several days dodging the tropical cyclone while out at sea on its March 1, 3-night sailing.

The vessel was forced to end this cruise early — and after getting special permission to dock in Brisbane, where the port is currently closed, 2,600 passengers disembarked.

The Pacific Encounter is set to depart for its next cruise on March 4, 2025 — with P&O Cruises’ even releasing a statement that the cruise would go on as planned.

The cruise line said in a communication to guests, “Guests should arrive at the terminal based on their check-in time selected in Cruise Control. All guests will need to complete check-in and board Pacific Encounter by 2pm.”

It continues,as you would be aware, the southern Queensland coast is currently being impacted by Tropical Cyclone Alfred. Our highest priority is the safety and comfort of our guests and crew, and although we will remain clear of this weather system, there may be some residual impact as we first depart.

Tropical Cyclone Alfred is currently impacting the southern Queensland coast — which happens to be exactly where this cruise is departing and heading through. No other ships are docked or sailing in this area at this time.

The quick 4-night round-trip out of Brisbane is heading north to its one stop in Airlie Beach on March 6 — returning on March 8.

Brisbane City Council issued a warning on Monday, March 3, at 10:45 am, urging residents to prepare their property for the storm.

Along Pacific Encounter’s route up to Airlie Beach are several counties that are all under level 3 advisories — which are telling residents to prepare now before things get bad.

At this stage, based on the current weather forecast, we expect to make our call to Airlie Beach on Thursday 6 March, however we will keep guests updated if this changes,P&O added in its communication.

P&O Cruises does expect that there will be some residual impact on the ship during departure — but insists the crew’s top priority is to keep passengers both safe and comfortable.

Further detailed by the update provided by P&O Cruises was a decision to also still visit Airlie Beach on March 6 — though they would keep guests updated.

Currently, Brisbane’s port remains closed — yet P&O Cruises has made no further changes to Pacific Encounter’s March 4 cruise. As the cyclone has been updated to a Category 2 storm, this cruise may be in jeopardy of not happening.

Tropical Cyclone Alfred Details

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the storm intensified to a Category 2 system as early as the morning of March 4, promising to be one of the most destructive storms Australia has seen in decades.

Tropical Cyclone Alfred will make landfall between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast late Thursday or early Friday. While it may be upsetting to miss a port you were excited for, a cyclone like Alfred is worth avoiding.

Tropical Cyclone Alfred
Tropical Cyclone Alfred

Byron Bay, which is more southern than Brisbane, is already starting to feel the effect of cyclone Alfred — with the region expecting up to 11 inches of rain, which is 25% of the annual rainfall.

Other reports are now expecting damaging winds and rain to begin as early as Wednesday, March 5 — lasting through the early weekend.

Concerns are pouring in about flooding and power outages, as the dams in Queensland are not built to mitigate such intense storms.

Flooding is typical when this area gets about 7-11 inches of rain in less than 48 hours, and in many areas about to be hit by Alfred, they are expecting 15 inches.

If the Pacific Encounter is still departing on March 4, it should expect low attendance — as passengers could be facing cancelled flights and flooded roads.

MSC Cruises Drops Hot 2025 Summer Itineraries

If you’ve been daydreaming about a summer vacation, MSC Cruises just delivered the ultimate tease with its full 2025 summer lineup

The newly announced itineraries feature the sun-drenched beaches of the Caribbean and Mediterranean and the awe-inspiring fjords of Northern Europe.

“MSC Cruises is offering an unparalleled choice of destinations and embarkation ports across the globe, each providing an abundance of enriching experiences,” said the cruise line.

On the list of summer fun? The debut of MSC World America, which will embark on its inaugural season from the new PortMiami terminal in April 2025.

The 215,863-gross-ton, 6,762-passenger ship is wrapping up construction at Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in France – recently completing its sea trials – and will be the cruise line’s first vessel specifically designed to spend its sailings in North American ports.

Her first season will feature 7-night voyages to the Eastern and Western Caribbean, with calls in Mexico, Honduras, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic.

The ship will also enjoy calls at the cruise line’s private island destination, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve in the Bahamas.

MSC World America won’t be alone in providing guests with Caribbean excursions. MSC Seascape, MSC Seashore, and MSC Meraviglia will all be setting sail for the tropics this summer.

Passengers can find shorter escapades from PortMiami on the 170,412-gross-ton MSC Seascape.

Up to 5,877 passengers will sail to the Bahamas and Ocean Cay on 3- and 4-night cruises but can also elect to sail 7 nights to destinations that include Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.

Meanwhile, guests will have an option to sail 3 to 7 nights from Port Canaveral on the 170,412-gross-ton MSC Seashore. The 5,877-passenger vessel will sail similar routes as MSC World America.

It will take 6,300 passengers on both quick 2-night escapes to more immersive 14-night adventures that travel as far as the Fjords and the Canary Islands.

Cruise Passenger Arrested for Firearm at Aruba Port

0

A passenger packing more than sunscreen was arrested in Oranjestad, Aruba, after trying to board a Royal Caribbean cruise with a revolver in his possession.

The incident unfolded on February 26, 2025, during the 5,602-guest Oasis of the Seas’ call in the Caribbean nation’s capital city.

According to reports from a local news outlet, the ship’s security crew discovered the firearm during a routine screening process.

The unidentified male passenger was immediately detained with police arresting the would-be cowboy and escorting him off the ship. He was transported to the local precinct for questioning.

Key inquiries will likely focus on whether the guest had been carrying the gun since the ship’s February 22 departure from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, or whether he purchased the item during the vessel’s 14-hour call in Aruba.

While details remain unclear, firearms are on Royal Caribbean’s prohibited list. This includes rifles, shotguns, pistols, revolvers, and other dangerous items.

“For security reasons, our company policy does not permit guests to carry firearms onboard during their voyage or otherwise secure weapons for anyone on our vessels or at the pier,” says Royal Caribbean.

But it’s not just policy, it’s the law. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) specifically says weapons are a no-go when cruising and passengers sailing to Aruba with a firearm, or even purchasing one in the country, can take a lot of heat for packing heat.

“If you are traveling to the Caribbean, know that it is illegal to import or export firearms or ammunition to or from any CARICOM (Caribbean community) member states unless you have a firearm import license or a firearm export license granted by the appropriate authority (such as the Commissioner of Police),” the ATF states.

The minimum civil fine for bringing a firearm through security when arriving in Aruba is $1,500. If loaded, the passenger faces a minimum $3,000 fine. The passenger could also face jail time for his mistake.

The 226,838-gross-ton Oasis of the Seas was sailing on an 8-night roundtrip voyage from Fort Lauderdale, and on its second call when the arrest was made.

It is unknown whether the man was able to reboard the ship or if he was detained in Aruba.

Additional passengers were not affected by the incident, continuing on to the cruise line’s Perfect Day at Coco Cay in the Bahamas on March 1 and returning to homeport on March 2, 2025.

A Case of Déjà vu?

Unfortunately, passengers sailing with prohibited items seems to be a repeat offense on Royal Caribbean vessels.

Last April 2024, a male guest from Virginia sailing on the cruise line’s 4,375-passenger Independence of the Seas was arrested during a call in Turks and Caicos for possession of ammunition.

Tyler Wenrich had been on a bachelor party with friends when a routine security search during a call on the island uncovered two bullets.

He claims they were mistakenly left in his bag and had passed through airport security in Virginia, as well as initial security checks when he first boarded the ship in Florida.

Regardless, he served three weeks in jail in Turks and Caicos, narrowly avoiding the country’s mandatory minimum 12-year prison sentence after his congressman advocated for his release. He also paid a $9,000 fine.

The US government makes it very clear on its Turks and Caicos travel advisory page that passengers need to “carefully check their luggage for stray ammunition or forgotten weapons before departing from the United States.”

Although a similar warning isn’t in place on the Aruba page, claiming a forgotten revolver in a pocket might not pass muster.

SS United States Reaches Her Final Destination After Complex Voyage

After 13 days for her final journey, the SS United States has entered Mobile Bay and is just hours away from docking at Modern American Recycling Services, where she will be refurbished and remediated ahead of scuttling.

The stately old gal departed Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 19, 2025. The City of Brotherly Love had been her home since 1996, but the love was running out following protracted legal battles about berthing fees and unrealized hopes for the ship to be restored as a hotel, museum, or other preservation purpose.

The aged ocean liner has been towed along the eastern seaboard to move to Mobile, Alabama. This is an essential step to prepare the vessel for sinking as what will become the world’s largest artificial coral reef.

Along the way on her final journey, the SS United States has experienced some of her former glory. Crowds gathered at various vantage points as she moved down the Delaware River and left Philadelphia.

The ship was far out to sea for much of the southbound portion of her relocation journey. Some rougher seas provided ethereal “ghost ship” images that give a glimpse of how the ship conquered rough waters in her heyday.

The SS United States was moved closer to the Florida coast over the past few days as she prepared to round the peninsula and turn into the Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America) toward Mobile. That route led to a wide range of amazing viewing opportunities, and one very special encounter.

Royal Caribbean’s Utopia of the Seas, one of the world’s largest cruise ships, diverted her planned route to move alongside the SS United States, offering guests a phenomenal view of the stately ship.

Utopia of the Seas honored the SS United States as Captain Raymond Coleman offered three blasts of her horn before moving away and continuing the Oasis-class ship’s planned cruise.

SS United States in Mobile Map
SS United States in Mobile Map

On Sunday, March 2, 2025, the tow operation for the SS United States sped up in anticipation of poor weather that could have made her final hours at sea more dangerous. The ship is not sailing under her own power, but is being carefully towed for the complete journey.

Just one tug boat has been necessary to keep the ship moving along the nearly 2,000-mile route.

As the ocean liner entered Mobile Bay, dozens of fans of the vessel were gathered on the east end of Dauphin Island to watch the ship’s historic passage into the bay.

Additional tugboats will facilitate the ship’s arrival and docking, and local law enforcement patrol boats will ensure a safe zone around the SS United States so there are no untoward incidents as she concludes her final journey.

What’s Next for the SS United States

The SS United States will remain at Modern American Recycling Services for approximately one year, undergoing extensive and detailed work to ensure she can be a safe and environmentally responsible reef.

All toxic materials must be removed from the ship to ensure no damaging chemicals can leach into the marine environment.

SS United States Departure
SS United States Departure

At the same time, additional pieces of memorabilia may be removed to eventually become part of the planned land-based museum that will showcase the ship’s history and legacy near her final resting place. This includes one of the ship’s iconic funnels if its removal proves possible.

The ship’s hull will also be structurally reinforced in such a way that when the vessel is sunk in the waters off Destin-Fort Walton Beach, she will land upright. This will provide an exemplary dive experience for visitors, which will attract tourists to the site and help spread the ship’s legacy to new fans.

At this time, there is no confirmed date for when the ship’s preparation work will be complete or when she will be officially sunk. Weather, shipyard labor, and any potential difficulties during the remediation process could all impact precisely when the SS United States will begin her new era beneath the waves.

Guest Overboard From Explorer of the Seas Themed Cruise

The wildly popular and nostalgic 80s Cruise aboard Royal Caribbean’s Explorer of the Seas has had a sad and unfortunate beginning with an overboard alert just hours after setting sail for a week of energetic and colorful parties.

The ship departed Miami, Florida on Sunday, March 2, 2025 for a 7-night trip to the past, but it was just a few hours later that the present cruelly intruded on the fun.

The “Oscar! Oscar! Oscar!” code was announced onboard around 11 p.m. on Sunday evening, alerting the crew to a potential overboard. The ship immediately slowed and turned to begin search operations.

Also nearby was Norwegian Pearl, and that ship briefly joined the search as well. Whenever such an incident happens, any nearby vessel – whether another cruise ship, a cargo ship, or other craft – will offer assistance.

While no details of the identity of the individual overboard have been released, guests onboard have noted that a couple was arguing just before the emergency call was made. The overboard guest is believed to be a female passenger.

The response to the overboard appears to have been immediate, rather than a delayed reaction that would indicate a person was noted as missing first.

Searchlights and the ship’s pilot boat were used to attempt to locate the individual, as is a standard search and rescue response. Due to the late hour, it is unlikely that any follow-up shipboard announcement may have been made about the situation.

Satellite tracking data confirms that Explorer of the Seas executed several sharp turns in the search region, moving to better facilitate searching in the most probable area for the individual to be found and recovered.

The incident happened roughly 30 miles south of Freeport, Bahamas and 75 miles east of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The ship resumed course for her first port of call – Nassau – shortly after 1 a.m. The original arrival time in the capital of the Bahamas was to have been 7 a.m., and any delay was relatively insignificant. The port of call has not been impacted, nor are there any changes anticipated to the rest of the weeklong itinerary.

After her visit to Nassau, Explorer of the Seas will spend Tuesday at sea, will enjoy a day in San Juan on Wednesday, March 5, will have another day at sea Thursday, and will visit her last port of call – Labadee, Haiti – on Friday, March 7. After another day at sea, the ship will return to Miami on Sunday, March 9.

The 138,194-gross-ton, Voyager class ship can welcome 3,286 guests aboard at double occupancy, or up to 4,290 passengers when fully booked with all berths filled. Also onboard are approximately 1,200 international crew members to help everyone have an amazing cruise filled with 80s vibes.

Explorer of the Seas is Sailing a Themed Cruise

Because this is a themed sailing as “The 80s Cruise” each day will be filled with retro fun and nostalgic activities.

While the sad start to the cruise might cause some minor changes to the daily schedule on Monday, it is unlikely to have a significant impact to the ship’s activities.

Advertised as “The Ultimate 80s Party” the themed cruise includes live music, theme parties, costume contests, 80s trivia competitions, karaoke to the top 80s hits, screenings of top movies of the decade, music videos on the big screen, and much more.

Sadly, this is not the first time an overboard incident has occurred from Explorer of the Seas. In August 2024, a passenger went overboard while the ship was sailing in the Adriatic Sea near Croatia.

Cruise Hive’s thoughts are with the passengers and crew aboard Explorer of the Seas during what is undoubtedly a sad time on what was to have been a very fun and worry-free sailing.

Family’s Missing Luggage Found After Weeks on Carnival Ship

Since embarking on an anniversary cruise onboard Carnival Magic on February 8, 2025, Jason and Tammy Merritt have been fighting to locate their missing suitcase.

But as of March 1, 2025, the Merritt family updated their growing group of followers that the suitcase had been located in the stateroom of another guest – finally signaling an end to the saga after more than 20 days of searching and waiting

“THEY FOUND MY LUGGAGE!!!!!! And there is a back to back to back thief!!! They found it in a [lady’s] cabin a ‘couple doors down’ from our cabin! The assumption is she liked my bag so she took it,” Jason shared on social media.

While luggage going missing isn’t overly uncommon, what made this case particularly unique is that the suitcase – which belongs to Jason – was lost onboard the Dream-class ship and then seemingly disappeared.

Thanks to a pair of Apple AirPods inside the bag, the family was able to track the suitcase to the ship using the “Find My iPhone” App – it was just a question of where.

They then watched from home as the tiny headphones kept sailing the Caribbean in the weeks since the couple disembarked without their suitcase on February 16, 2025.

In fact, the adventures of the AirPods – which the family refers to as Daddy-O’s – now even have their own dedicated Facebook page, which will remain active at least until the suitcase is reunited with its owner.

Eventually, one of Carnival Magic’s 1,367 crew members recognized the suitcase – but it was those very same AirPods that confirmed that the bag really did belong to Mr. Merritt.

“They were able to confirm it was mine by…wait for it…the serial number on my AirPods!!!!!!!,” Jason said.

“It is my understanding that her room had been checked and she said it was her bag. It wasn’t until a crew member saw a pic of my bag that he remembered seeing one like it and went back to check the room again. This time they searched it and found my stuff,” he continued.

The cruise line has promised to ship the suitcase home on Monday, March 3, 2025.

What Happens Next?

The unidentified woman who stole Jason’s suitcase not only allegedly took something that wasn’t hers, but lied about it.

Once the bag’s true identity was confirmed, she was placed under “house arrest” – meaning she was confined to her cabin for the remainder of her sailing – which disembarked on March 2, 2025, in Miami, Florida

Frankly, she was lucky not to be sent to the brig – which is also known as the onboard jail cell.

“She was put under house arrest and has been banned from all future sailings, is what I’m told,” Jason confirmed.

In addition to being banned from all Carnival ships, it’s also likely that she was banned from all Carnival-owned brands – which includes popular cruise lines like Princess Cruises and Holland America Line.

Jason will also have to eventually decide if he wants to press charges against the cruiser. Per his latest update, he is waiting to receive an inventory list from Carnival to see if the guest took anything.

In an earlier post from Tammy, she estimated that the contents of the suitcase – which included things like medication, a CPAP machine, and electronics – was valued at around $1,000.

“We’ll know more in the coming days and then I need to decide if I want to press charges. If nothing is missing then I’m not really sure it’s worth the hassle. If something is missing then I’m dang sure pressing charges,” the recent Carnival guest continued.

But until they know more, the Merritt family is happy that their belongings were finally found and that there may be a light at the end of this tunnel.

That said, they will continue tracking the AirPods until the suitcase is back in their possession.
