Carnival Cruise Line has confirmed the updated list of parties and events onboard every ship in the fleet.
All ships will feature the signature 80s Rock-N-Glow party and its totally rad, day-glo vibes.
Exact events will vary on different ships and sailings based on cruise length and available space.
Carnival cruisers are generally a lively crowd, enjoying music, dancing, and fun.
The cruise line leans into that vibe with multiple parties onboard, with every ship in the fleet having at least 1-2 signature events during even the shortest sailings.
Some events change seasonally as ships shift to new homeport regions. It does not make sense, for example, to offer a “Tropical Nights” party for ships sailing in Alaskan waters.
Some events are also only offered on longer sailings when there is more time to schedule parties.
Now, the cruise line has updated the event schedule for the winter season (or in Australia, the summer season), and guests will be thrilled to enjoy the most popular event, the 80s Rock-N-Glow party, on every single ship on every single sailing.
So pack the leg warmers, day-glo, and shoulder pads to strut your 80s vibe, but don’t miss out on these other parties across the Carnival fleet as well:

While these are the planned events for all Carnival ships, schedules can vary from sailing to sailing depending on different factors.
It can be difficult to have multiple deck parties if the weather is poor, for example. Similarly, if space may not be available due to group events, some parties might be relocated or cancelled.

The most updated event schedule will be in the Carnival Hub app when guests board their cruise ship. Events are also printed in the FunTimes newsletter, and will often be announced by the cruise director each day.
Parties May Not Be for Everyone
While these signature events are popular onboard Carnival ships, no one is ever forced to join in if they aren’t interested.
Furthermore, there is no established dress code, dance move, or other qualification to participate in different parties.
Want to be part of the White Hot Party but don’t pack along white clothes on a cruise? No worries, just go ahead and have a good time! Don’t fit into your 80s leggings anymore? That’s okay, you can show off your moves all the same.
All these events are free and open to all ages, so everyone can enjoy the fun onboard, no matter how they prefer to party.
The FBI is investigating a guest’s death following Carnival Horizon‘s November 2 sailing, a 6-night cruise.
No details about the guest’s age, identity, or cause of death have been confirmed by authorities.
There has been no delay to Carnival Horizon and the ship has already set sail on her next voyage.
A cruise vacation is supposed to be a fun and memorable time, but some guests aboard Carnival Horizon will be remembering their sailing for all the wrong reasons.
When the ship returned to PortMiami on Saturday, November 8, 2025, members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) were on hand to look into the death of a passenger.
Few details are available at this time, but according to CBS Miami, Carnival Cruise Line has confirmed that it is cooperating with the FBI Miami office to facilitate the investigation.
“Our focus is on supporting the family of our guest and cooperating with the FBI,”a statement from the cruise line read.
This only confirms that it is a guest who is deceased, but no further details have been released. There is no information about the guest’s age, traveling party, or the cause of death.
There are various rumors on social media groups about the incident, including the suspicion of foul play or substance abuse, that the guest was found unresponsive in a stateroom, and that it may have been a young woman. These are not officially confirmed, however, and are speculation only.
Some guests onboard the sailing have recalled a medical emergency call to Deck 8 on the last day of the sailing, but this may have been unrelated. Medical emergencies are not uncommon on cruise ships.
Some guests on Deck 8, however, did receive notification in their staterooms that they would have priority debarkation in order to stay clear of investigators.
“Authorities will be joining the ship first thing upon arrival to complete an investigation and will be in the area of your hallway,”the notification said.“It could be noisy and disruptive, so we kindly ask that you be out of your stateroom by 7:00 am.”

Those guests had an option for breakfast, then were escorted first off the ship. It is unclear, however, whether they were personally involved in the investigation or simply in nearby staterooms that needed to be emptied to facilitate the investigation and protect the privacy of those involved.
An FBI spokesperson also released a brief statement confirming the investigation.
“I can confirm that the FBI has responded to the scene,”the spokesperson said.“Because this is an ongoing matter, no further information is available at this time.”
Is the Next Sailing Impacted?
Carnival Horizon just completed a 6-night Western Caribbean itinerary that initially departed on Sunday, November 2. The ship delivered relief supplies to Ocho Rios, Jamaica and enjoyed port visits to Grand Cayman and Cozumel before returning to Miami.
It is not known when the guest may have passed, though cruise ships are equipped with morgues if necessary. A Medical Examiner van from Miami-Dade County was on hand when the ship arrived back to port.
While some guests noticed a delay with the morning’s debarkation, there was no delay to Carnival Horizon‘s next voyage. The Vista-class ship has already departed on the 8-night Southern Caribbean “ABC” itinerary.
Carnival Horizon can welcome 3,960 guests aboard at double occupancy, or as many as 4,977 travelers when fully booked with all berths filled. There are also roughly 1,400 international crew members onboard.
Cruise Hive’s thoughts are with the impacted guests and crew members aboard Carnival Horizon at this troubling time.
Cruise directors are the face of fun aboard Carnival cruise ships, and having the Carnival cruise director schedule can help travelers plan which ships to book to enjoy their favorite Fun Squad leaders.
This updated schedule is the ultimate tool for knowing which particular cruise director is assigned to which ship in the coming months.
We’ll keep updating this list weekly.

Schedules can change as operational needs change, and different cruise directors may move to different positions in their careers. Gaps in the listed dates may indicate dry dock plans or currently unassigned roles.
The Carnival Cruise Director Schedule Remains Fluid
Carnival Cruise Line employs approximately 30-40 cruise directors, though schedules and assignments are fluid and not every cruise director may be under contract at the same time.
Contracts vary from just a few weeks to several months, though even in those time periods, an individual cruise director may move from one ship to another, depending on operational needs and available assignments.
The dates for each cruise director indicate the beginning and end of a specific ship contract, with multiple entries listed for different individual contracts.
Dates Can Overlap
Dates occasionally overlap for multiple cruise directors as assignments change. This extra time is when the new cruise director will meet their team, familiarize themselves with the vessel, and prepare for a smooth transition from one leader to the next so all guests have the very best onboard experience.
Individual cruise directors often remain aboard the same ship for several weeks or months at a time, allowing them to develop a truly unique personality for that vessel and to work seamlessly with their Fun Squad team.
Cruise directors with greater seniority may request specific ships or homeports as they prefer, though assignments are always subject to the operational needs of the overall fleet.
What Are the Social Profiles for Each Cruise Director?
What You Need to Know About Carnival Cruise Directors
The cruise director is one of the most visible members of a ship’s crew. He or she is the “face” of fun for Carnival Cruise Line’s Fun Squad—the crew members who host trivia contests, lead deck parties, judge contests, and share other fun with every guest.
Cruise directors are leaders of the activities staff and coordinate closely with the entertainment staff to provide amazing fun for everyone aboard, no matter what the time of year, specific cruise itinerary, or any challenging circumstances.
Cruise directors often introduce the evening’s entertainment or production shows, host question-and-answer sessions, make onboard announcements, greet embarking passengers, and more.
Behind-the-scenes duties such as planning daily activity schedules, balancing the schedules of crew members under their leadership, and ensuring the Fun Squad is fully equipped with games, prizes, and equipment is also part of the cruise director’s job.
Fleet Carnival Cruise Director
Carnival Cruise Line also has a unique role in its leadership team, the Fleet Cruise Director position. This is an experienced and charismatic individual who helps train other cruise directors and develops new activities that can be used fleet-wide.
Carnival’s first Fleet Cruise Director was Mike Pack, who was promoted to the leadership role in early 2022, along with Chris “Donkey” Salazar, who assumed the role in early 2023. However, Mike Pack announced in November 2024 that he would be retiring.
Fleet Cruise Director, Lee Mason (Photo Credit: Lee Mason)
It is possible that additional active cruise directors will also be promoted into the new leadership position in the future. At that time, they would no longer have individual assignments on specific ships, but would operate from Carnival Cruise Line’s shoreside offices to support all cruise directors on the line’s 29 vessels.
Confusing bags in the hallway have led one Carnival guest to question how laundry valet services work.
John Heald has clarified that guests should keep their laundry request bags in their stateroom.
This is not the first time Carnival has had questions and concerns about valet and self-service laundry.
It’s never quite fun to go home from a cruise vacation with luggage full of dirty laundry. Many guests avoid this problem with laundry services onboard, but there can be some confusion about how the services work.
While self-service laundry facilities (where available) are quite self-explanatory, what about sending one’s laundry out for valet cleaning?
This does cost a fee depending on the overall amount of laundry and the types of clothing, but it can be a great time-saver. After all, who wants spend precious vacation time in a laundry room?
An interesting question about laundry services have arisen on Carnival Magic, however. While laundry doesn’t magically disappear, how are guests supposed to send it out for cleaning services?
One guest reached out to John Heald, Carnival Cruise Line’s brand ambassador, for instructions.
“I’ve sailed plenty and utilize the laundry every cruise. This cruise however on the Magic I noticed multiple people leave their filled laundry bags outside their cabin door,”they began.
“I have never done this. I have always found my room steward in the hall or called their number to let them know I have laundry ready. What is the room steward’s (or Carnival’s) preferred method for notifying laundry is ready for sending out?”
This is certainly an interesting question. After all, Carnival Cruise Line does prefer guests place used room service dishes in the hallway for collection, instead of leaving them in the room.
Laundry, however, is one’s personal property. On the other hand, guests do put their personal luggage out in the hallway for collection at the end of the cruise, so what is the proper procedure for laundry requests?
Heald quickly answered, clarifying the best option.
“We always ask the guest to please keep it inside of the cabin,”he confirmed.“Thank you for bringing this to my attention and I will speak directly with the ship.”
Carnival Magic is currently sailing an 8-night Eastern Caribbean itinerary, having left PortMiami on Saturday, November 1. This is one of the ship’s SEA adults-only cruises, and she will return to Florida on Sunday, November 9.
Why the Confusion?
There are several reasons why the guest may have been confused about laundry bags in the hallway.
While it’s unlikely they were mistaking room service dishes for bags of laundry, it is possible the stewards were in the process of collecting laundry.
They could have left the bags in the hallway for a brief period while collecting more or attending to other tasks, such as an emergency call from another stateroom.
Another possibility could be they didn’t see laundry bags at all, but perhaps bags of linens that had been positioned in the hallway in anticipation of changing sheets or exchanging towels.
I’ve seen that several times on different cruise ships, and it can indeed look like a bag of laundry. The linen bags, however, are much larger and look very different than the little paper bags guests fill for laundry service.
The guest did not share a photo of the bags, so it’s difficult to determine whether they actually saw guest laundry bags or linen collection bags the stewards use.
Nevertheless, understanding exactly how laundry requests are best processed is useful for any prospective guest interested in the service.
This is not the first time Carnival’s laundry procedures have been questioned. For example, some guests have wondered if multiple guests’ laundry items are mixed together for washing. While they are indeed washed in the same machine, Heald has explained that all items are bagged separately.
The self-service laundry rooms available on some Carnival ships have also been the subject of controversy. This usually arises when guests might leave their items in machines for hours, not giving others the opportunity to use the equipment.

Couple’s Lawsuit Charges Bedbug Infestation
In a case that could be described as having a major “ick factor,” two former guests on a Carnival Cruise Line ship are suing the brand for an alleged bedbug infestation aboard Carnival Horizon.
Catherine Shockley and William Maycock filed the lawsuit in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida on October 28, 2025. It states they were bitten by multiple bedbugs as they sailed on Carnival Horizon‘s February 15, 2025 cruise to the Southern Caribbean from Miami.
After experiencing bites and severe itching on their arms, legs, and faces, they inspected their bedding and allegedly found live bedbugs and evidence of bedbug eggs. The couple notified the crew but claimed no action was taken, and they were not moved to another stateroom.
They are seeking damages to cover medical costs and lost property, and for emotional distress and scarring.
The cruise line’s protocol for bedbug problems includes chemical treatments followed by inspections. Shockley and Maycock indicated that they saw crew members fumigate nearby staterooms, which could indicate that the cruise line knew of a bug infestation.
Betting on Bagels Aboard Carnival Panorama
Carnival Cruise Line is going big on bagels. The line’s new Bagels @ Sea breakfast offering is being tried out onboard one ship, the 4,000-guest Carnival Panorama.
Offered during breakfast hours in the space occupied by the Pizzeria del Capitano on Deck 10, the new menu offers multiple sandwiches on bagels.
These include Carnival Lox, featuring smoked salmon and cream cheese with capers, onion, fennel, and avocado, and Breakfast Club, a western omelet with sausage, bacon, cheddar cheese, chive cream cheese, and a special sauce.

Or, how about Powerhouse Protein, featuring pesto chicken and egg whites with spinach, avocado, tomato, and pepper jack cheese? And there’s more!
Guests can also mix and match items or just have a plain bagel with cream cheese if they wish. The best part is that the new breakfast offering is included in the cruise fare.
Carnival Cruise Line has not disclosed whether Bagels @ Sea will be expanded to other ships. Carnival Panorama is homeported at Long Beach, California.
Cruise Line Delivers Relief Supplies to Jamaica
Royal Caribbean’s Rhapsody of the Seas made an important port call to Falmouth, Jamaica, on November 4, 2025, when it delivered 120 pallets of relief supplies following the devastating Category 5 hurricane that hit the region two weeks ago.
Sailing from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Tampa on November 2, 2025, the ship was to call at the port per her scheduled itinerary. But due to hurricane damage, no guests disembarked at Falmouth. Instead, supplies were unloaded, and the ship went on her way.
Carnival Horizon Supplies for Jamaica
Supplies included bottled water, non-perishable foods, medical supplies, and other needed items — all part of a $1 million pledge the line has made to the island’s recovery.
Hurricane Melissa caused major infrastructure damage and flooding across Jamaica, and also impacted the Dominican Republic, Cuba, and the Bahamas before heading out of the Caribbean. Jamaica was the hardest hit.
Other cruise lines have pledged donations to aid in the recovery efforts on the island, which is home to the busy cruise ports of Ocho Rios and Falmouth.
Carnival Cruise Line Unveils Turkey Day Menu
Those lucky cruisers who get to spend their Thanksgiving holiday onboard a Carnival Cruise Line ship will be able to indulge in all of the delights of a traditional turkey-day menu, and then some.
The cruise line disclosed its holiday menu, which, along with the usual Thanksgiving favorites, offers dishes for vegetarians as well as those who just want a nice, thick, juicy steak!
For the traditionalists, the ships’ main dining rooms will feature roasted turkey with all the fixins’, including stuffing, sweet potato casserole, green beans, gravy, and cranberry relish.
Carnival Thanksgiving Menus
Beef lovers can order the blue cheese-crusted filet mignon with black truffle jus, mustard potatoes, and roasted vegetables, while vegetarians can go for salmon Wellington, baked in puff pastry with a spinach and tarragon cream sauce.
Let’s not forget about dessert! Guests can enjoy traditional dishes like pumpkin pie, cheesecake, or caramel apple cobbler, or select the ultimate in dessert comfort food — warm chocolate melting cake.
Guests who would rather dine in the Lido Marketplace buffet will not be disappointed, since turkey and the traditional side dishes will be available there, too.
Royal Caribbean Reveals 2027 Florida Deployments
Royal Caribbean will make its presence in Florida known in 2027 with the deployment of five ships to three of the Sunshine State’s ports in April of that year.
Port Canaveral will be homeport for three ships year-round, while PortMiami and Port Tampa Bay each host one ship. Between the various options, guests will choose from 2-night getaway cruises to weeklong and 8-night voyages.
All of the ships destined for the Florida ports are mega-ships, except for one — the 2,500-guest Radiance of the Seas. The smaller vessel will be based at Tampa, sailing 4- to 8-night voyages to the Western Caribbean.

The star of the show may well be the 5,600-guest Star of the Seas, the cruise line’s newest ship, which will be based at Port Canaveral and offer 7-night cruises to the Eastern and Western Caribbean.
Other ships bound for the Central Florida port are Utopia of the Seas and Harmony of the Seas, sailing 3- and 4-night cruises and 7-night voyages, respectively.
Based at PortMiami, Wonder of the Seas will sail 3- and 4-night getaways to the Bahamas.
Virtually all of the cruises will call at Royal Caribbean’s private island destinations, such as Perfect Day at CocoCay, as well as those not yet open but in the works.
These include Royal Beach Club Paradise Island, set to open in December 2025, and Royal Beach Club Cozumel, slated to debut in 2026.
NCL Brings Back Popular Free at Sea Promotion
Norwegian Cruise Line guests can say goodbye to More at Sea and hello to Free at Sea.
The line has relaunched its Free at Sea promotion after cancelling it a year ago and replacing it with More at Sea. Free at Sea was popular, and will likely be again, since it provides a bundled package of benefits that can reflect a value of about $2,000 on a 7-night cruise.
Perks are based on cruise length and include unlimited open bar, WiFi, three specialty dining meal credits, and $50 in shore excursion credits at every port (tours must be booked through the line).

The package is typically offered for the first two guests booked in a cabin, although on some sailings, it can include a third and fourth passenger sharing the stateroom. The Free at Sea package can also be personalized by removing parts of the promotion and reducing the cruise cost.
The Free at Sea plan announcement included Norwegian Cruise Line’s Black Friday deal, which offers a 50% discount on all voyages.
Cruise Guests Receive Warning Tied to Legionnaires
A safety warning about Legionnaires’ disease was sent to current and former guests of Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Epic after it was learned that two past guests had contracted the illness.
Its November 4, 2025 alert explained that while it is unknown how or where the ill guests had contracted the disease, any current or former passengers should immediately contact medical professionals if they begin to experience symptoms of the disease.
These include fever, headache, coughing, muscle aches, and shortness of breath, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which is investigating the case.
The CDC says Legionnaires’ disease is caused by the Legionella bacteria, and emerges as pneumonia in infected victims. The bacteria does not spread person-to-person, but rather is found in water droplets from showers, misters, hot tubs, fountains, and other water sources.
In the past, there have been other suspected cases of Legionnaires’ disease impacting a cruise ship, although they are very rare.

We’ve all heard someone say it at some point: Cruise ships are filled with germs. However, while cruise outbreaks may make headlines, do you know what doesn’t?
The thousands of other cruise ship sailings go on without a problem whatsoever. The truth is, cruise ships are perfectly safe and there’s really little risk of falling ill when taking a cruise. Here’s why.
1. Cruise Ships Don’t Actually Account for All That Many Norovirus Outbreaks
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), norovirus is the most common cause for gastrointestinal distress-related illness outbreaks on cruise ships. However, while norovirus may be what’s most likely to get you sick during a cruise, it doesn’t actually impact all that many cruises.
The CDC estimates that, when you look at all the reported norovirus outbreaks and all the ways you’re likely to get it, cruise ships only account for a mere 1% of the country’s norovirus outbreaks.
You’re far more likely to encounter this illness in other places that you frequent far more regularly than a cruise ship. Schools, childcare centers, college campuses, restaurants, catered events and healthcare facilities are of more concern, says the CDC, than cruise ships.
2. The CDC Regularly Inspects Cruise Ships
While we’re on the topic of the CDC, did you know that the CDC actively inspects cruise ships to ensure that they don’t pose any risks to cruisers’ health?
According to the organization, cruise ships under the CDC’s jurisdiction must be inspected twice per year, while the ships are in port.
CDC Sign
The very thorough inspections can take as long as eight hours and cover eight key areas: the ship’s medical center, drinking water, galleys and dining rooms, swimming pool, housekeeping, pest control, children’s areas and HVAC.
Along the way, inspectors are doing things like taking water samples to test. They’re ensuring food is stored and prepped properly. They’re even looking at crew members’ personal hygiene and interviewing crew members to see if they know the safety precautions they should be taking.
In short, these inspections are incredibly detailed and thorough.
3. Cruise Lines Put Hand Cleanliness Front and Center
While cruise lines can’t really force you to wash your hands a lot, they certainly will do their best to remind you to do so. After all, hand washing is one of the most important things you can do to prevent the spread of illness.
For example, on some Royal Caribbean ships, there’s a crew member character called Washy Washy, who sings hand-washing-focused remixes of popular songs outside dining venues, near the hand-washing stations. While it might seem a little cringeworthy at first, the songs have actually gone viral on social media in the past.
In one interview, crew members who’ve played Washy Washy said they would start their jobs singing hand-washing tunes as early as 6 a.m., so they can catch the early birds at breakfast, with other crew members on the job right up until dinner ends.
Furthermore, with COVID times, many cruise ships began installing hand sanitizer stations throughout public spaces, so even those who aren’t swayed by a dancing crew member to wash their hands have an easy way to cut down on any potential germ-spreading.
4. Industry Oversight Encourages a High Level of Cleanliness
It’s not just the CDC and national bodies that pressure cruise lines to keep things clean, though. Within the industry, organizations further press cruise lines to keep their ships clean and safe for human health.
For example, there’s the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), which boasts more than 50 cruise line members. Among these are probably some of the cruise lines you cruise with frequently, such as Carnival Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises, Disney Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean and more.
The CLIA requires all of its members to meet certain cleanliness standards. Crew members must regularly clean cabins, restaurants and common areas.
After every cruise, crew members must use specific cleaning products and protocols to clean the entire ship top to bottom. Crew members must be trained in public health, etc.
5. Cruise Ships are Cleaned Extensively Following Any Outbreak
While cruise lines obviously clean the ships’ public areas throughout the day, and staterooms once per day, with more extensive cleaning conducted between cruises, if there ever is an illness outbreak on a ship, cruise lines really go above and beyond.
For example, following a Coronavirus outbreak in 2020, Princess Cruisescleaned not just staterooms and public areas as normal. Crew members sanitized all soft furnishings (like carpets and drapes).
Any removable soft materials, like shower curtains and linens, even down to mattresses, were literally thrown away. HVAC systems were disinfected.

Similarly, following a norovirus outbreak, Royal Caribbean went over Explorer of the Seas with extreme attention to detail. High-touch areas like elevator buttons and railings were bleached. Carpets were soaked in disinfectant.
The cruise line didn’t just clean the ship once, either. Explorer of the Seas was cleaned top to bottom three times total, before it was put back into commission.
As such, even if there is an outbreak, by the time the next cruise leaves on the affected ship, it’s like that outbreak never even happened.
6. Passengers are Becoming More Aware
While this is more so a result of misinformation in the media regarding cruise ship safety and the incorrect assumption that cruise ships are floating petri dishes, it still results in less risk of illness overall. Fearing getting sick, cruise passengers are now more aware of their habits than ever and are taking steps to reduce germ spread.
Look to just about any blog or website that covers cruising and you’ll find articles about how to stay healthy during a cruise.
Even the CDC offers a guide for cruisers, recommending preventative steps to take like washing your hands often, taking care of your immune system, reporting to the ship’s medical center immediately if you do feel ill, and notifying a crew member if you see anyone that’s ill.
In short, more people are being mindful of keeping themselves healthy during their cruise, which benefits everyone aboard the ship.
7. Ships are Becoming Larger and More Spacious
Yes, as some cruise ships have gotten bigger and bigger, they’ve just packed on more passengers. However, some cruise lines have, in contrast, realized that more space per passenger is a good thing.
People want to be able to spread out — and when you can spread out on a cruise ship, you can put distance between yourself and any potentially ill cruisers.

To find out which ships will give you the most breathing room, you can calculate a ship’s space per passenger ratio by looking at the ratio between the gross tonnage and passenger capacity.
Using this formula, you’ll see that Disney Cruise Line ranks very well in terms of space per passenger. However, larger cruise lines also rank well, including Norwegian Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean.
As you could possibly expect, Carnival Cruise Line’s space per passenger ratio isn’t very good, as the budget cruise line attempts to cram in as many cruisers as possible.
8. Crew Members are Well Trained to Put Public Health First
Crew members often go through training that helps them comply with CDC vessel sanitation standards. This training might be provided from the CDC itself, but there are other, third-party organizations that likewise provide training related to health and safety.
Princess Cruises Crew Members (Photo Credit: Erin Cadigan)
Additionally, there’s an actual crew member whose entire job is dedicated to public health. The ship’s Public Health Officer ensures that crew members are complying with all public health standards, and oversees responding to any issues. They also train other crew members in public health.
So, you can rest assured that the crew isn’t just winging it — they’re fully prepped to keep you as healthy and safe as possible.
9. Cruise Ship Technology is Evolving to Keep Cruisers Safer
When we talk about cruise ship technology, a lot of cruisers are more so interested in the tech that’s going to make their experiences a little cooler. Think VR entertainment or an outer facing stateroom wall that disappears at the touch of a button.
However, behind the scenes, other evolving technology is just as important, especially when it comes to keeping your cruise safe and healthy.
For example, Norwegian Cruise Line began using an innovative electrolyzed water-based cleaner, or hypochlorous acid (HOCI). This cleaner was only made possible in recent years thanks to the development of tech that could produce HOCI in large quantities suitable for a cruise ship’s use. The cleaner is safer than traditional disinfectants but provides a bleach-like cleaning power that can fight off viruses, bacteria and fungi.
MSC Cruises, meanwhile, introduced new advanced air sanitation technology, called Safe Air. The sanitation system uses short-wavelength light to clean air flow within the ship’s air conditioning system, preventing the spread of viruses and bacteria.
Many of these new tech developments were pushed into use in 2020, with the cruise industry eager to get back to business, but they’ve just further made cruising even safer and healthier in the years to follow.
10. Cruise Ship Illnesses Seem So Prominent/Common Because They Must Be Reported
If the entire staff at a local business is out sick, you’re probably not going to hear about it. If a bunch of people at an all-inclusive resort become ill, you may not see it in the headlines.
However, everyone knows if a cruise ship outbreak occurs. It’s everywhere. It’s on all of the news TV stations, on all of the major news websites, on social media, etc. You may not have any interest in cruising whatsoever, but you’ll still hear about it.

This makes cruise ship outbreaks seem pretty common, but it really just seems that way because of the stringent reporting requirements at play. That information about outbreaks is readily available to news outlets.
As soon as a crew member feels ill on a cruise ship, they’re required to report it to medical staff. Then, if a confirmed illness — crew or cruiser — is confirmed, cruise ships must report it to the authorities.
These requirements are in place to help minimize an outbreak’s damage. However, all that reporting puts that info out into the world, making it look like outbreaks are the norm.
11. The CDC Will Make a Ship Stop Sailing if It’s Risky
Remember how we discussed the CDC’s stringent inspection requirements? Well, if the CDC decides that the cruise ship isn’t up to snuff, and that it poses an imminent public health risk, the CDC will order a cruise ship not to sail until those risks are addressed.
However, the CDC assures that this is rarely ever an issue, because the inspections are so thorough that they get ahead of any potential risks before this is even the case.
CDC Sign (Photo Credit: Tada Images)
Problems that would cause the CDC to recommend a cruise ship not sail include the inability to chlorinate drinking water, inability to keep food at a safe temp, inability to keep facilities clean, inability to control infectious disease, and inability to dispose of waste.
12. The Cruise Line Requires Sick Passengers to Isolate
Another way that cruise lines are keeping cruisers safe? If there’s a guest that’s deemed too ill to be around the general public, and contagious, the cruise line will make that cruiser isolate in their cabin.
For example, if you’re cruising on a Royal Caribbean ship, and you feel ill and go to the medical center, if the medical staff say you’re infectious, you’ll have to remain in your cabin until you can disembark at a port of call and take other transportation home, or until the cruise is over.

You may be moved to a stateroom close to the medical center as well, so that the medical staff can keep an eye on you. Don’t worry, though — Royal Caribbean will cover the costs for all of your in-room dining and WiFi.
Cruise Ships are Just as Safe as Any Other Mode of Travel — Maybe Even More So!
All in all, while cruise ships may get a bad reputation as a germy place to be, they’re really not all that much of a threat. There are many other places and modes of travel (airplane, anyone?) where you’re at a higher risk of contracting an illness.
When you add in cruising’s low safety risks overall, beyond illness, it’s easy to see: If you’re worried about your health and safety, you should be going on a cruise for your next trip.
Port of Galveston has officially opened Cruise Terminal 16, its fourth cruise ship terminal, on Friday, November 7.
MSC Seascape is now in Galveston and will welcome her first Texas guests on November 9, 2025.
The new terminal will be used year-round by MSC Cruises and every winter by Norwegian Cruise Line.
Everything is bigger in Texas and the Port of Galveston is getting bigger and better than ever with the opening of its fourth cruise terminal, Cruise Terminal 16, at 1602 Harborside Drive.
A ceremony was held on Friday, November 7, 2025 to officially open the new terminal in conjunction with welcoming MSC Seascape to her new homeport.
More than 200 port officials and local dignitaries were in attendance for the momentous occasion, along with representatives from both MSC Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings. Both MSC Cruises ships and Norwegian Cruise Line ships will utilize the new terminal.
“This is a tremendous milestone in the port’s history as a major U.S. cruise port,”said Rodger Reese, Galveston Wharves port director and CEO.“We welcome MSC Cruises as a new cruise partner, as well as a Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH), which has committed to more sailings from Galveston.”
MSC Seascape will set sail on Sunday, November 9, for her first Texas-based sailing, a 7-night Western Caribbean voyage with calls to Costa Maya, Roatan, and Cozumel.
The 170,400-gross-ton ship will remain in Galveston year-round, bringing the MSC Cruises experience to up to 5,877 guests on each sailing.
“MSC Seascape is arriving in Galveston with true Texas flair, adding to the blend of European style and American comfort our guests love,”said Lynn Torrent, president of MSC Cruises North America.
“Expanding our North American footprint to Galveston and cutting the ribbon on the port’s brand-new Cruise Terminal 16 are exciting steps for us on our path to making MSC Cruises a household name in the North American market.”
Norwegian Viva will set sail from the new terminal for the first time following her European season. On November 28, she will depart Lisbon for a 15-night transatlantic cruise that will bring her to the Lone Star State.
The Prima-class ship’s sailings include 7- and 14-night options with visits to Mexico, Belize, and Honduras. In January 2026, her two 14-night sailings are Eastern Caribbean voyages that will visit Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Grant Turk, the Virgin Islands, and more.
Port of Galveston Cruise Terminal 16
Norwegian Viva‘s first departure from Galveston will be on December 13. While the ship is only homeporting from Galveston in the winter season, she will return in October 2026 as well.
“We want to give a warm Texas welcome to MSC Cruises as the world’s third largest cruise line enters the Galveston market,”said Vic Pierson, Galveston Wharves Board Chairman.“Having MSC and Norwegian Cruise Line homeporting in Galveston says a great deal about our position in the U.S. and global cruise markets.”
More Improvements and Cruise Options at Port of Galveston
Both MSC Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings committed to long-term partnerships with Galveston Wharves in 2024.
Those agreements helped fun the $154 million new terminal, which includes the 165,000-square foot terminal as well as a new parking garage and boarding bridges to service homeported ships.
“Today we’re celebrating a major port milestone and what it means to our community, cruise guests and port partners,”said Craig Brown, Galveston mayor.“This new terminal will generate jobs and economic growth for the region, exciting new cruise choices for our market, and growth opportunities for our port partners.”
In 2026, it is expected that the Port of Galveston will welcome 445 sailings with nearly two million cruise passengers. This will be a new record for the port and showcases its growth and popularity with eager cruise guests.
In addition to MSC Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line, ships from Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean, and Disney Cruise Line all set sail from the Lone Star State.
Star Princess was officially named on November 6, 2025, with Camila and Matthew McConaughey serving as godparents.
The McConaugheys christened the ship using a bottle of their brand, Pantalones Organic Tequila.
A drone show and plague ceremony also took place before the ship begins its first season in the Caribbean.
Cruise guests gathering at Port Everglades on November 6, 2025, were treated to an unusually celebrity-heavy scene for a ship naming.
Camila and Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey stepped into their newest maritime role as godparents of Princess Cruises’ Star Princess, officially christening before it began its inaugural Caribbean sailing.
But rather than breaking a bottle of champagne against the hull as in maritime tradition, the couple broke a bottle of their own Pantalones Organic Tequila brand, kicking off a new partnership with Princess Cruises.
The ceremony took place inside the ship’s Princess Arena and was hosted by TV personality Dawn McCoy.
Passengers, invited guests, and members of the media, including Cruise Hive, looked on as the pair delivered brief remarks and carried out the naming.
“It’s an honor to follow in the footsteps of past godparents and welcome Star Princess into the Princess fleet,” the McConaugheys said.
“We are excited to share this moment with the guests who step aboard – coming together with family and friends, making new memories, and sharing a Pantalones cocktail, or two.
Princess Cruises President Gus Antorcha and Captain Gennaro Arma both participated in the ceremony, with Antorcha saying the naming ceremony is a “milestone filled with pride and joy.”
“We’re grateful to Matthew and Camila McConaughey for joining the Princess family and know their warmth and infectious spirit will always be felt throughout Star Princess,” he added.
The ceremony also included a live performance by nine-time Grammy winner and friend of the McConaugheys Sheryl Crow. A drone display capped the night, tying into the ship’s future deployment to Alaska.
Star Princess’ First Season
The 177,800-gross-ton Star Princess is the second vessel in Princess Cruises’ newest class and can carry 4,300 guests. Following its naming ceremony, the vessel officially begins its Caribbean deployment on November 7, 2025, from its Fort Lauderdale homeport.
To kick off this special milestone, a plaque ceremony took place aboard the ship with Port Everglades officials officially welcoming Star Princess home.
The inaugural Caribbean voyage is a short, 3-night preview sailing to the cruise line’s private Bahamian destination, Princess Cays, and Nassau, with the ship returning to Fort Lauderdale on November 10, 2025.

Her next voyages will be longer, beginning with a 5-night journey to the Dominican Republic and Turks and Caicos and then a 7-night Western Caribbean adventure to Belize, Honduras, and Cozumel, Mexico.
Star Princess will offer alternating 7-night Eastern and Western routes with 14-night options for those who want to sample both.
Guests onboard enjoy more than 1,500 balcony staterooms, including the new Sanctuary Collection suites and mini suites that come with an exclusive restaurant, adults-only deck space, and elevated amenities.
Public spaces include a redesigned Piazza enclosed in a glass sphere and used as a central gathering area for dining and daily activities. Additional venues include O’Malley’s Irish Pub with expanded seating and Love by Britto, a specialty dining room tied to artist Romero Britto’s “Love” theme.
The vessel also debuts two original productions – Meridian and Illuminate – staged inside the Princess Area, while the Dome, a glass-covered top-deck venue, will host a Candlelight Concert Series.
After the vessel’s Caribbean deployment, Star Princess will reposition to Alaska in the spring of 2026 for a summer in the Last Frontier.
Carnival Paradise will make a guest port visit to Jamaica on the ship’s November 10 departure.
The ship was scheduled to visit Montego Bay, but will be going to Ocho Rios instead.
Not all ships can visit Jamaica yet, but this is a great step in the nation’s recovery from Hurricane Melissa.
Just over two weeks since the country was devastated by Hurricane Melissa, one port in Jamaica is ready to welcome back cruise guests, at least in a limited fashion.
Carnival Paradise will be the first of Carnival Cruise Line’s ships to visit the Caribbean nation as tourists. The ship will not be going to the original port on its itinerary, Montego Bay, but will visit Ocho Rios instead.
Carnival Paradise‘s November 10, 2025 departure from Tampa is a 6-night Western Caribbean voyage with visits to Key West, Montego Bay, and Grand Cayman.
Naturally, booked guests have been wondering whether or not the visit to Jamaica would be possible, considering the damage and flooding caused by the Category 5 hurricane.
Carnival Cruise Line has notified guests that they will, in fact, be able to visit Jamaica during their sailing, though not quite at the planned port of call.
“We have been in close contact with Jamaican officials about our expected stop in Montego Bay for Thursday, November 13,”the email explained.“The city is still in recovery mode and regrettably, unable to accommodate our visit.”
At first, this is disappointing, but the notification goes on with good news.
“Currently, Ocho Rios, Jamaica, is more prepared to welcome cruise guests, so, we have revised our itinerary to call there instead,”the email confirmed.
Both Montego Bay and Ocho Rios are on Jamaica’s north shore, but Ocho Rios is located roughly 55 miles further east. Hurricane Melissa struck the western part of the country, and while the entire nation suffered from the devastating impact, Ocho Rios has been able to recover more quickly.
This does not mean the port will look pristine and as well-equipped as it may have been before the hurricane, but businesses will be open and ready to welcome cruise guests.
Visitors have a great opportunity to support Jamaica’s recovery by exploring the port, buying souvenirs, grabbing snacks, and otherwise enjoying their time in Ocho Rios.
“I encourage you to please think about taking an excursion from the ship,”John Heald, Carnival Cruise Line’s brand ambassador, urged.“We really want to support the local economy as much as we can, we want to keep you safe, so take an excursion.”
Different tours are available for guests to book online or through the Carnival Hub app, or they can be booked onboard at the Shore Excursions desk midship on Deck 7, Empress Deck.

“Thank you so very much for getting off the ship, maybe spending a few dollars at one of the shops or doing something in one of the markets,”Heald said.“I know how much they will appreciate you.”
Heald noted that guests will also have the opportunity to donate onboard the ship to help support the country’s recovery efforts in partnership with the cruise line’s generous $1 million relief donation to Jamaica.
The rest of Carnival Paradise’s itinerary is unchanged.
Are All Cruises Heading Back to Jamaica?
It is important for booked guests to realize that just because Carnival Paradise is able to arrange an alternative port and still visit Jamaica, this does not mean the island’s recovery is complete and all ships can resume.
For example, Carnival Liberty‘s November 9 departure from New Orleans was also scheduled to visit Montego Bay. An alternative port has been arranged for that cruise, and the ship will be sailing to Progreso, Mexico instead.
“It all depends on space at the pier and other operational factors,”Heald explained.
The Fantasy-class Carnival Paradise is one of the smallest ships in the Carnival fleet and can welcome 2,124 guests. Carnival Liberty is a mid-sized Conquest-class vessel that can welcome 2,980 guests.
A smaller ship will be easier to accommodate while pier space may be limited or port personnel are short-staffed. Furthermore, if tour operations are more limited as locals rebuild, cruise lines will take that into account to be sure their guests will all have opportunities to enjoy the port.
This is an ambitious goal, but Carnival Paradise‘s first port visit is certainly a great step in that direction.
In the meantime, multiple ships from multiple cruise lines will continue making relief visits to deliver critical supplies to help the people of Jamaica recover and rebuild.
