Harvest Caye: What to Know About NCL’s Private Island in Belize

If you’re traveling on a Norwegian Cruise Line ship in the Caribbean Sea, there’s a good chance you will visit Harvest Caye, which is a private island owned by the cruise line. Located just off the coast of Southern Belize, the island paradise offers NCL guests stunning natural beauty, relaxation, and plenty of opportunities for adventure.

Where Is Harvest Caye?

Harvest Caye is located just 1.5 miles south of the Placencia Peninsula along the southeast coast of Belize. As mentioned, Harvest Caye is only accessible to ships belonging to Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL).

Thanks to a single pier that stretches out from the northern tip of the island, NCL cruise ships can dock directly at this 75-acre oasis rather than using tender boats

While the pier can only accommodate one cruise ship at a time, it allows guests to disembark much more easily and get the most out of their time there.

Thanks in part to its convenient location along the Caribbean Sea, twelve ships from Norwegian Cruise Line’s fleet regularly list a port of call visit to Harvest Caye in their itineraries.

Beach, Pool & Relaxation

While the island of Harvest Caye is stunning, it has much more to offer than just gorgeous scenery. The first time I visited, I assumed it would look like any other cruise port in the Caribbean, but there are actually so many unique things to do and see.

In fact, I almost felt like I didn’t have enough time to do everything I wanted, which is why knowing what to expect is so useful for first-time visitors.

To make it easier for you to get the most out of your visit, I will break down Harvest Caye’s main highlights, starting with its picture-perfect beach.

The Beach

The well-maintained white-sand beach spans a full 7 acres, making it the perfect location if you’re hoping to soak up the sun.

I absolutely loved the beachside cabanas, which can accommodate up to six guests at a time. And if lounging on a comfy cabana and listening to the waves isn’t enough, optional concierge food and beverage services are available.

Do yourself a favor and order a round of your favorite rum cocktails right to your cabana—it’s the ultimate way to indulge and unwind.

For those looking to keep costs down, plenty of complimentary beach loungers are available. The beach is also lined with ample private, air-conditioned bathrooms.

Like any good Caribbean beach, it is fully lined with shady palm trees, and the water is a beautiful turquoise. Whether you want to take a quick nap or splash around in the water, Harvest Caye’s beach is something you won’t want to miss.

The Lagoon and Marina

A partially enclosed saltwater lagoon is also the perfect venue for trying out watersports. I tried paddle boarding for the first time, but you can also rent electric float boats, sea kayaks, and snorkeling gear.

Just beyond the lagoon, you’ll also find a large marina hosting a food and bar area. This is also where you can book some of the many shore excursions on offer at Harvest Caye, like the above-mentioned watersports experiences, fishing trips, and parasailing.

The Resort-Style Swimming Pool

One of the island’s other major attractions is a 15,000-square-foot pool, which features a swim-up bar, a man-made waterfall, and complimentary access for all visitors. The swim-up bar was the main highlight for me, as it gave me the full resort experience that is sometimes missing from a cruise vacation.

If swimming isn’t your thing, there are plenty of shaded areas surrounding the pool and plenty of lounge chairs. If you’re traveling with children, the pool area is perfect.

Relaxation Vibes

I know I just said the beach is one of my favorite things about visiting Harvest Caye, but what really has me wanting to go back is how relaxing the entire experience is.

For starters, I found navigating the entire island really easy. With clear signage and a well-planned layout, exploring is a stress-free experience. It’s also well-staffed, which might explain why the entire island feels so clean and organized.

From strolling through the shopping village to finding bathroom facilities, everything just seemed straightforward, giving the island a really relaxing and inviting atmosphere.

While I definitely love experiencing different cultures and the more authentic experience I get when visiting Caribbean towns, visiting Harvest Caye is just easy. Plus, it’s totally safe, which isn’t something that can be taken for granted in that part of the world.

Things to Do in Harvest Caye

While relaxation is certainly a theme at Harvest Caye, that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to do on the island. Again, to help you properly plan your visit, here are the main highlights:

Adventure Activities

Harvest Caye Zip Line

If you’re looking for excitement, the zip line experience offered at the 136-foot-high Flighthouse isn’t something you’ll want to miss. With 3,000 feet of zip line ropes available, it’s an amazing experience and a great way to see everything the island has to offer from above.

If you’re not feeling quite up to the full zip-lining experience, or you just want to save a few bucks, I’d still highly recommend climbing the Flighthouse, as there’s a free observation deck that’s definitely worth checking out. You can even see the mainland from there on a clear day!

Wildlife Experiences

While Harvest Caye definitely has a well-manicured look and feel, the island still offers plenty for nature lovers hoping to enjoy the natural ecosystem and wildlife.

The lagoon is home to a huge variety of tropical fish and turtle species, as well as plenty of sea birds in the trees that surround it.

Visiting the aviary allows you to view toucans and parrots, which are both native to the island. You can also explore the Blue Morpho Butterfly Garden, a sanctuary facility housing numerous species of butterflies, including the enormous Blue Morpho, for which the building is named.

Water Sports

The island’s natural saltwater lagoon is the perfect spot to try a variety of water sports. There are marked off areas where visitors can snorkel and scuba dive in the clear waters.

As well as calm waters for paddleboarding and kayaking. For adrenaline junkies, the jet ski rentals can also be found on the north side of the lagoon, but there are speed limits in the lagoon itself, so visitors will do most of their jet skiing beyond the lagoon.

Personally, I found paddleboarding to be one of the highlights of my entire vacation. It was a new experience for me and a truly peaceful way to experience the island’s natural beauty.

Plus, it was a bit of a workout, which made me feel less guilty about eating an enormous burger on the rooftop patio at LandShark Bar & Grill afterwards.

Excursions Beyond the Island

If you’re interested in exploring the mainland, Harvest Caye almost serves as a sort of gateway to the culture and natural beauty Belize has to offer.

In fact, NCL even offers a ferry from Harvest Caye to Placencia. A round-trip journey costs $25, which was a bit of a disappointment, given that I assumed it would be complimentary, but it’s definitely worth it if you want a more authentic island experience.

Like any excursions offered at Harvest Caye, you can purchase your ferry tickets before you arrive by visiting the excursion desk on your cruise ship. With a hard limit of only 400 tickets available per day, booking ahead of time is definitely a good idea if you want to explore beyond the island.

While the ferry is the most budget-friendly way to venture off the island, there are numerous excursions offered through NCL that will take you beyond Harvest Caye, including guided trips to Mayan ruins, river tubing adventures, and ATV tours to Cayo’s many waterfalls.

Tips for Making the Most of Your Visit

It may be a relatively small island, but you’ll enjoy your visit to Harvest Caye so much more if you plan ahead. Here are a few tips I wish I knew the first time I visited the island:

Bring Cash

Although NCL operates Harvest Caye as a cashless port, meaning you can make most purchases using your cruise card, having some cash available for the local vendors in the shopping village is a great idea.

With locals from the mainland selling authentic, hand-made Belizean goods, you won’t want to find yourself without cash if you spot a souvenir you want.

Plan Your Meals

Unfortunately, NCL’s onboard dining and beverage packages do not extend to the island. If you want to eat or drink at venues like the LandShark Bar & Grill, plan for additional costs.

Book Excursions Ahead of Time

Pier and Island

You’ll want to book your excursions before you get to the island, especially if you plan on going to the mainland. Spots are limited, and they tend to fill up quickly.

I’d even recommend booking your excursions as soon as you board your cruise ship if you want to ensure you have the experience you envision.

Arrive at the Beach and Pool Early

While the beach and the pool have plenty of loungers, shaded areas are somewhat limited. Knowing this, you’ll also want to bring sunscreen with you, especially if you are visiting with small children.

Speaking of kids, all the paths and walkways are paved, so you can bring strollers or scooters. In fact, you can even rent a golf cart if you want to explore the island in the most convenient way possible.

See You at Harvest Caye!

Harvest Caye offers a unique blend of relaxation and adventure. While it lacks some of the more authentic cultural experiences you’ll find elsewhere in the Caribbean, the pristine beach, natural lagoon, huge swimming pool, and simplified layout make it an amazing place to visit.

Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth Arrives at New Homeport for the First Time

After completing a 19-night transpacific repositioning voyage, Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth has finally arrived in Seattle for the very first time.

The 90,901 gross-ton vessel arrived on the morning of June 12, 2025, the same day it will embark passengers for its first of many upcoming Alaskan cruises.

Queen Elizabeth’s arrival also marks the first time the ship will homeport in Seattle, expanding the cruise line’s offerings to those passengers interested in luxury sailings out of the Pacific Northwest.

“The Port of Seattle is honored to welcome Cunard and the iconic Queen Elizabeth for their first homeported season in Seattle,” shared Steve Metruck, Port of Seattle’s Executive Director. “This partnership marks a major milestone in our work to expand economic activity and to support local jobs through cruise, and we look forward to advancing together our shared vision for sustainability and responsible tourism.”

“Our view of luxury is rooted in a belief that experiences can be both elegant and relaxed, and our Alaska voyages aboard Queen Elizabeth personify that spirit,” added Liz Fettes, the Senior Vice President of Commercial for North America at Cunard.

The Alaskan voyages aboard Queen Elizabeth in 2025 will run from June 12 through September 25 — after which the ship will be repositioned to Miami.

There are 11 available round-trip cruises during this time, ranging from 7- to 12 nights long. These sailings will call on Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan, Glacier Bay National Park, as well as Victoria in British Columbia.

Passengers will also be able to enjoy the natural beauty of Hubbard Glacier, as well as experience scenic day viewings of the Inside Passage — the world’s longest-sheltered inland waterway.

Those guests on the June 12 sailing will be some of the first to experience the recent upgrades made to Queen Elizabeth, which concluded a dry dock in March of 2025.

What Upgrades Were Made to Queen Elizabeth?

During a three-week-long dry dock earlier this year, the 14-year-old Queen Elizabeth received some major work to improve the overall guest experience.

Revitalized were the ship’s signature spaces, and the Princess and Queens Grills experiences were elevated.

Those passengers staying in the Grill Suites will find that the rooms are now more expansive and include extra amenities, butler services, and even exclusive access to private restaurants and spaces onboard.

Also exclusive for Grill Suite guests is a new three-course Gala Evening menu designed by Michelin-starred chef Michel Roux.

Among the upgrades to the ship available to all passengers is the Pavilion Wellness Café, a dining experience focused on mindful eating and feel-good food. Here is some good news — breakfast and lunch at this location are complimentary.

What is sadly not free is the three bespoke journeys available at the Harper’s Bazaar Wellness at Sea program.

The recover, energize, and relax packages are curated and include a selection of ELEMIS products, nutritious smoothies, wellness treatments, and rejuvenating masterclasses.

Beyond the upgrades, there are some experiences available exclusively for the Alaskan cruises on Queen Elizabeth.

This includes an enriching speaker series with the Royal Canadian Geographical Society (RCGS), which will feature experts sharing insights on the region.

There will be a second speaker series with 11 local Alaskans called “Locals Onboard,” including a Denali expeditionist, a master Tlingit dance group, local historians, artists, and photographers.

To further honor Cunard’s presence in the Pacific Northwest, guests onboard will get to enjoy locally sourced wine from Charles Smith Wines, Double Canyon, Goose Ridge, Canoe Ridge Estate, and Elsom Cellars.

While Queen Elizabeth will reposition to Miami in September of 2025, the ship will be back homeporting in Seattle again beginning in May of 2026, offering more Alaskan voyages.

Princess Cruises to Boost Seasonal Capacity in Singapore

Princess Cruises is upping its game in Singapore for the 2026-27 season, adding a second ship to the homeport as it aims to boost its presence in the growing Asia cruise market.

Essentially doubling its capacity, the cruise line announced it will deploy Sapphire Princess to Singapore starting in October 2026, joining Diamond Princess, which has been sailing from Singapore on a seasonal basis for the last two years and is headed there again for the 2025-26 season.

Sapphire Princess and Diamond Princess are sister ships in the line’s Gem class, each with a capacity for 2,670 guests in double occupancy. They both entered service in 2004.

It will not be the first time that the two vessels were based in Singapore at the same time; both ships operated from the port during the 2018-19 season. In fact, Sapphire Princess became the first in the fleet to homeport at Singapore and was based there seasonally from 2014 to 2020.

Sapphire Princess will sail a 33-night repositioning cruise from Los Angeles to Singapore on November 22, 2026,  calling at ports in Hawaii, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Vietnam. The sailing includes the Christmas holiday and concludes on December 26, 2026.

The ship will sail a total of 18 itineraries from Singapore, including a lengthy, 42-night Japan & Southeast Asia Grand Adventure. This sailing departs on February 6, 2027 and has a 14-night segment that includes the New Year holiday.

The shorter segment calls at Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Langkawi, Malaysia; Phuket, Ko Samui, and Bangkok, Thailand; Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; and Sihanoukville, Cambodia.

Her roster of Southeast Asia departures is scheduled through late February 2027.

Sapphire Princess’s final departure from Singapore is a 14-night Southeast Asia & Japan with Halong Bay cruise, which concludes in Tokyo on March 6, 2027. Featured port calls are Nha Trang and Halong Bay, Vietnam; Hong Kong; Taiwan; and Ishigaki and Nagasaki, Japan.

Halong Bay is featured on most itineraries operated by both ships. The destination is known for its rainforests and beaches, and is a favorite with scuba divers, rock climbers, and hikers.

Diamond Princess to Sail From Singapore Until March 2027

The cruise line revealed some details of Diamond Princess’s 2026-27 Singapore season earlier this year. Before deploying to Singapore, the ship will operate an extended season in Japan, sailing 7- to 28-day voyages from February to November 2026.

Her repositioning cruise to Singapore will be a 24-night Japan & Southeast Asia with Halong Bay sailing that departs Tokyo on November 25, 2026. The voyage calls at ports such as Kagoshima, Nagasaki, and Ishigaki, Japan; Taiwan; Hong Kong; and several destinations in Vietnam.

Once she launches her Singapore sailings, Diamond Princess will offer 11 voyages until March 2027. The itineraries feature 28 destinations and include holiday cruises.

A combination Christmas and New Year cruise departs Singapore on December 9, 2026. The 24-night Malaysia, Thailand & Vietnam with Halong Bay cruise visits ports in Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia.

Diamond Princess’s seasonal deployment to Singapore concludes in mid-March 2027.

Princess Cruises, a Carnival Corporation brand, has a fleet of 17 ships sailing global itineraries. The line’s newest ship is Sun Princess, which launched in 2024.

Costa Ships Will Slow Down or Stop for Scenic Guest Experiences

Imagine cruising off the Greek island of Santorini and your captain locates the perfect location for viewing the sunset. As the sky turns vibrant colors, music begins playing on deck, and you sit back, relax, and let it all sink in.

That’s called Endless Sunset, one of Costa Cruises’ programs offered as part of its “Sea & Land Destinations,” a collection of unique experiences that has been revitalized as the summer 2025 season begins.

Sea & Land Destinations represent a new way of traveling, where the sea and the land create unique and complementary opportunities that transform each trip into a spectacular, multi-sensory experience designed to amaze guests,a statement from Costa Cruises explains

There are a slew of at-sea experiences offered on various ships in the Costa fleet, but more about that later.

The cruise line, a Carnival Corporation brand that caters mainly to the Italian market, also has reinvigorated its land destination programs to be so unique that they cannot be independently copied.

The excursions offer substantially more than guided sightseeing by, for example, featuring “privileged access” to the world’s top landmarks and sites, offering activities specifically for family groups, and making the best use of the time in ports without stressing out guests.

The land tours are formulated to provide full and rewarding experiences, and to convince guests that their best bet is to book excursions through the cruise line and not via independent vendors at the various ports of call.

At-Sea Experiences Offer Serene As Well As Lively Programs

Turning to Costa Cruises’ Sea Destinations, the onboard experiences are divided into three regions — Northern Europe, Eastern Mediterranean, and Western Mediterranean. The activities and experiences are offered only on ships sailing in those regions during the summer months.

For example, the Endless Sunset experience mentioned above is offered on the 2,700-guest Costa Fortuna, which is sailing a summer series of Greek Island voyages roundtrip from either Athens or Istanbul.

Other new experiences are offered on Costa Cruises’ newest ship, Costa Toscana, which was christened in 2022.

The 6,500-guest mega-ship offers the experience called Symphony at Dawn, as the ship sails the waters off Calanques National Park Bay, near Marseille, France.  In this serene Western Mediterranean program, the ship sails slowly past the cliffs of Les Calanques at dawn, offering an unforgettable view of sunrise.

Costa Toscana Cruise Ship

Costa Toscana is sailing a variety of 5- to 7-night summer sailings roundtrip from Marseille, Barcelona, Rome, and Palermo, Sicily.

Some experiences are much more lively. Take, for instance, Costa Deliziosa’s summer cruises in the Eastern Mediterranean operating roundtrip from Venice.

During the Summer Carnival experience, the 2,260-guest ship sails into the Venice lagoon while guests are given decorative masks to wear and fans to hold, while music plays on the outdoor decks.

In Northern Europe, as Costa Diadema sails the Norwegian Sea, guests can enjoy the Friluftsliv Meditation experience. In this program, guests onboard the 5,000-passenger ship can join a guided meditation. Friluftsliv, by the way, translates to “life in the open air.”

In some cases, special performances are part of the experience. Guests on Costa Fortuna will surely delight in the Dervishes Show, as the ship sails through the Dardanelles Strait in northwestern Turkey. The strait separates Europe from Asia, and the traditional Dervish dances are considered an ancient Turkish ritual.

Due to the nature of the various “Sea & Land Destinations” programs, weather conditions can impact planned experiences.

Carnival Guest Warns Others After Being Targeted by Scam

The scammers are at it again – and they seem to keep getting smarter and more convincing. But thankfully, one Carnival cruise guest realized that she was on the verge of falling for a scam in the nick of time and is now warning others.

Her lesson was that when you call the cruise line, you need to be sure that you really are calling the right number.

After running into a minor glitch during the online check-in process, the unidentified woman called Carnival for assistance – or so she thought.

She had googled the phone number for the Miami-based cruise brand, but didn’t go all the way to the website. The search results associated the fraudulent phone number with the legit website, which is why she thought it was safe to call.

“The number I called was attached to the official carnival website, but it was not a carnival number… It is attached to the official website, but it’s not actually ON the website,” she explained on Reddit.

Relatedly, another similar scam has been circulating throughout the first half of this year in which scammers send fake emails pretending to be Carnival and post ads with fraudulent phone numbers.

The shady advertisements are meant to draw in victims with unbelievable promotions. When interested cruisers call to book, the con artists pretend they work for the cruise line and steal credit card numbers and other personal information.

And ultimately, a promotion that sounded too good to be true is what made this future cruise guest realize that the person on the other end of the line might not have good intentions.

Cruise Scam
Cruise Scam (Credit: adhdhuh)

“While I was explaining the issue on the phone, the agent said there is a promotion going on and if he cancels my reservation and rebooks the exact same cruise for me he can get me about $1000 cheaper,” she wrote.

Worth Reading: Transportation Scams Plague Popular Cruise Homeport

“My cruise is in 5 days…I kept asking him what the catch is and it was kind of hard to understand it with our language barrier but he said something about bulk purchasing of rooms,” she continued.

With a bad feeling in her gut, she hung up and had her husband call the real Carnival phone number from the website – where actual employees confirmed that the alleged promotion was a scam.

Staying Safe From Scammers

Luckily, this cruiser had a good head on her shoulders – and knew that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

If this ever happens to you, it’s always okay to hang up and call the cruise line back at a legitimate number – as she did. You’ll either save yourself a lot of heartache, or the promotion will still be available and the customer service agents will understand.

Unfortunately, the woman did reveal her name and booking number to the crook before she realized what was really going on – but Carnival has been working to help protect her booking since she notified them quickly.

Sharing this information with a malicious recipient does put the cruiser’s vacation at risk, as they could use it to make unwanted changes or even cancel her voyage altogether.

“He has my booking number unfortunately. The real carnival customer service has been helpful. They are trying to lock down my account so the scammer can’t change anything about my booking. I feel so dumb,” the guest added.

But while this cruiser will likely make it onboard her cruise without suffering any major problems – aside from perhaps a deflated ego – not everyone is so lucky.

Not only do cruisers need to stay vigilant to look out for fake advertisements and phone numbers, but some scammers will directly contact specific guests pretending to be from the cruise line.

At the end of April, the famous Kyndall “Fire” Magyar – who can be found onboard Carnival Jubilee – advised that someone was sending out scam messages in which they impersonated the Carnival cruise director in order to get money.

Meanwhile, an employee from a competing cruise brand, Norwegian Cruise Line, recently warned of scammers calling guests who had opted for “fly & cruise” packages – in which the criminal pretends to book the airfare and steals credit card information in the process.

The guest that the NCL customer representative had spoken to had lost nearly $20,000 through the ruse – which again speaks to the importance of staying aware and safeguarding your personal information.

Cruise Guest Embarrassed After Realizing What His Shirt Suggests

Among seasoned cruisers, it’s a well known fact that a pineapple symbol – especially when the pineapple is upside down – is a sign that a guest may be part of the swinging community.

But for novice cruisers who may not be in the know, a pineapple might simply seem like happy, tropical imagery that fits perfectly on a sailing bound for destinations like the sunny Caribbean or the Bahamas.

One such cruise guest, who recently spent his 7th anniversary with his partner on a Carnival Cruise ship, learned the true meaning of the Pineapple symbol during his sailing through his wardrobe choices – much to his chagrin.

The cruiser in question, who goes by Ricky Bobby on his TikTok (@prericky), posted about what happened when he wore a yellow shirt covered in pineapples onboard. The video has now been viewed a whopping 18.7 million times.

“Me: Wondering why random ppl kept on talking to him on our cruise,” reads the text, seemingly from Ricky’s partner’s perspective, over various clips of other passengers noticing Ricky’s attire.

As other guests walked by, they would clearly stare at the shirt, whisper under their breaths, and some would even go so far as to flirt.

At first, Ricky was amused by his unexplained popularity, but was “pissed” when he realized it was because of the symbol on his shirt – although his partner was clearly amused by the situation.

“We didn’t know what the shirt meant,” Ricky added in the caption.

By the end of the video, Ricky had discarded his festive shirt and was questioning if his partner knew the secret meaning the entire time. It’s unclear how he was finally clued in on what the Pineapple symbol meant.

But to be clear, there is nothing wrong with consenting adults participating in swinging – or the act of exchanging sexual partners, often between couples. However, the practice can feel uncomfortable for people who are not part of the swinging community.

An Easy Mistake to Make

Although Ricky may have felt a bit embarrassed by his fashion faux pas, he can rest assured that he isn’t alone in his now former ignorance.

I like to think that I’m somewhat of a cruise expert – afterall, I do write cruise news! – and even I didn’t know what the upside pineapple symbol meant for several years.

My excuse is that I always associated pineapples with Hawaii, where the fruit is synonymous with feelings of joy and hospitality.

Upside down Pineapple
Upside down Pineapple

Some cruise lines, such as Carnival, have actually started to prohibit pineapple door decorations due to the potential for unwanted or awkward situations – especially if the passengers staying in the cruise cabin also aren’t aware of the secret meaning.

Believe it or not, sometimes new crew members don’t even know what upside down pineapples really symbolize.

Lucy Southerton, who posts all about cruising on her YouTube channel (Cruising As Crew) after working as a cruise ship crew member for a decade, once shared what she described as an embarrassing story of how she was clued in to the hidden meaning.

Early in her career at sea, Southerton was working as a masseuse in the onboard spa and was trying to make friendly conversation with a couple that had come in for massages – and noticed that both of the guests wore silver upside down pineapple necklaces.

“Oh, I love your necklaces. I think it’s so cute that you’re both wearing matching necklaces… But why the pineapple? What does that represent to you in your relationship?,” she recounted asking.

Although the couple was very amused by her question, she was understandably “mortified” when her guests explained that they were part of the swinging community.

Engine Issues Cause Yet Another Valiant Lady Itinerary Change

For the second time this month, Virgin Voyages has had to notify booked guests just days before their June 15 Valiant Lady cruise out of Miami, Florida, of some important itinerary changes.

“We have made an itinerary update to your upcoming Mayan Sol voyage, sailing on June 15, 2025,” read the email notification. “Due to engine maintenance, you will now visit Cozumel, Mexico, instead of Costa Maya, Mexico, on Day 3.”

Also included in the communication was the full schedule, including the original and updated one, with all changes being highlighted in red.

Initially, the 110,000 gross-ton Valiant Lady was set to call on Costa Maya from 9 a.m. through 6 p.m. on June 17, 2025.

Instead, it will be docked in Cozumel on June 17 from 8 a.m. through 8 p.m., giving guests three additional hours to explore the tropical destination.

The rest of the itinerary will go on as scheduled, with one stop in Bimini on June 19 before disembarking passengers in Miami on June 20.

Unfortunately, Virgin Voyages is notifying passengers of the change just four days ahead of the Mayan Sol cruise, so understandably, booked guests are having mixed reactions.

“Has this happened to past cruisers? Do you think it is related to maintenance?” commented one passenger.

“VV may have maintenance done in Cozumel- it’s a great port!” one cruiser responded.

“Costa Maya is just a strip mall of tourist shops, you’re not missing anything. Cozumel will be way more fun,” added another.

While the timing is not ideal, many seasoned cruisers have voiced their preference for Cozumel over Costa Maya, citing that there are more things to do and it is overall less crowded.

Prior to the June 15 voyage, Valiant Lady is sailing a quick 4-night Fire Sunset Soiree cruise departing June 11 — this itinerary remains unchanged, calling on Key West and Bimini.

That being said, the change to the June 15 sailing is not the most recent time Valiant Lady has had to alter its schedule due to engine issues.

Not the First Impact Due to the Engine Issue

Just a handful of years after launching, Valiant Lady is already experiencing its fair share of issues.

On June 3, 2025, Virgin Voyages announced that the June 6 sailing, literally called the Dominican Daze voyage, was no longer visiting the Dominican Republic.

Instead of visiting Puerto Plata on day 3 of the sailing, the vessel called on Grand Turk, arriving on June 9, 2025.

Beyond that, the arrival time in Bimini was also moved up an hour from 9 a.m. to 8 a.m., giving passengers an extra hour to enjoy the island.

An email sent out to booked guests by Virgin Voyages shared that the change to the June 6 itinerary was due to engine maintenance.

However, this was not the start of the issues the ship has been having, as it goes all the way back to January of 2025.

First, the January 17 voyage had to swap the visit from Puerto Plata to Grand Turk — the same as the June 6 voyage — and while the reason was not confirmed, guests speculated it was due to engine maintenance.

Then, the January 31 sailing also had the same itinerary change, with the cruise line citing that the schedule was adjusted due to Valiant Lady needing extra maintenance.

To top it all off, there was a shipwide power outage on May 30, 2025, which happened while departing from Bimini.

Whether or not any other upcoming voyages will be affected is yet to be seen — but hopefully, the June 15 sailing will be the last one affected by the engine issues.

Carnival Valor Resumes Service After Major Dry Dock Upgrade

On June 11, 2025, Carnival Valor embarked passengers for the first time since finishing a fairly comprehensive dry dock on June 10.

While welcoming guests in Barcelona, the vessel was dry-docked at the Navantia shipyard in Cádiz, where it had been since May 10, 2025.

During the dry dock, the 21-year-old Carnival Valor was upgraded to enhance passenger comfort and add new features, such as the new Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge as well as the WaterWorks aqua park.

Having first debuted on Carnival Panorama in 2019, the addition of the Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge to Carnival Valor marks the 16th ship in the Carnival fleet to have the military hero-focused venue.

“Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge is a heartfelt salute to the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve our country – and it’s fitting to have this popular venue now featured on Carnival Valor, a ship named in honor of our heroes,” said Christine Duffy, President of Carnival Cruise Line.

Duffy also noted that Carnival is honored that more military families choose to sail with them compared to any other cruise line. The new Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge is located on deck 5 of this particular vessel.

Carnival Valor is also now the 24th Carnival vessel to feature the WaterWorks aqua park, which features the several-hundred-foot-long Twister Waterslide.

Beyond the lounge and water park upgrades, the vessel was also refurbished to upgrade public areas and prioritize accessibility by enhancing pathways and improving facilities. Staterooms also received upgrades such as better lighting and newly added USB outlets.

The onboard casino was expanded and refreshed to improve the layout and offer more gaming options.

Passengers will find that the gym and spa facilities have now been rebranded as the Cloud 9 Spa, which emphasizes a revitalized environment for relaxing treatments and fitness routines.

But wait, there is more! A Dream Studio was added on deck 3 to allow passengers to have personalized photo sessions, and Carnival Adventures on deck 5 will be available for guests interested in learning about or booking shore excursions.

Of course, Carnival did not forget about the kiddos. Younger passengers will also get to experience some refreshed areas with tailored amenities according to their interests and age groups.

This includes Camp Ocean’s fleet-first LED feature wall, which offers multi-player video gaming and engaging programming.

For older children and teens, Circle “C” and Club 02 will both have new karaoke and gaming experiences.

Finally, the last few adjustments made on Carnival Valor included upgrading the carpets and refurbishing all public areas — truly capturing the cruise line’s commitment to continuous improvement.

Where is Carnival Valor Off to?

As mentioned above, Carnival Valor embarked passengers in Barcelona, Spain, on June 11, 2025.

The ship is set to sail a 15-night one-way repositioning voyage, but is first stopping in Malaga and Cádiz in Spain, as well as Ponta Delgada in Portugal, before heading across the pond.

After more than a week at sea, the vessel will arrive back at its homeport in New Orleans on June 26.

Also happening that very same day is the first of many 4- and 5-night Western Caribbean cruises Carnival Valor will be doing year-round.

These voyages usually include stops in Progreso and Cozumel in Mexico, but also will occasionally call on Costa Maya.

From June of 2025 through April of 2027, there will only be two sailings longer than five nights, and they are both happening this year.

Departing on June 30, 2025, the ship will be sailing a 7-night itinerary that includes stops in Roatan in Honduras, Belize City, and Cozumel in Mexico, before disembarking guests on July 7 in New Orleans.

The only other slightly longer sailing is the 6-night round-trip voyage departing November 24, 2025, which will call on Cozumel, Belize City, and Costa Maya.

With hundreds of upcoming voyages available, cruisers seeking to experience Carnival Valor’s upgrades will have plenty of opportunities to do so.

New Cruise Ship Suite Is Bigger Than Most Homes and Costs $25,000 a Night

When Regent Seven Seas Cruises revealed it would introduce a new suite category on its new-build Seven Seas Prestige, who could have imagined the accommodation would span a whopping 8,800 square feet and have a per-night rate starting at $25,000?

The ultra-luxury line has unveiled exactly that in a June 11, 2025 announcement detailing the wildly opulent and all-inclusive Skyview Regent Suite, the first of its kind for the brand.

The ship, under construction at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Marghera, Italy, is due to launch in December 2026. She recently celebrated her keel-laying ceremony, a maritime tradition and construction milestone.

In tandem with the big reveal about the top suite, the cruise line also confirmed that Seven Seas Prestige will split her inaugural season between the Caribbean and Europe, offering two transatlantic crossings. Bookings for all voyages open on June 25, 2025.

Among destinations that will be featured during the 822-guest ship’s maiden season are Belize, the British Virgin Islands, England, Portugal, and France, in addition to two transits of the Panama Canal.

The Skyview Regent Suite, one of a dozen suite categories the ship will offer, is being designed as a two-level living space with a total of 8,794-square-feet. A wraparound balcony will offer 3,700 square feet of outdoor space.

The new accommodation will have two bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, a spacious living room, and a stone stairway to the second level. But guests won’t have to ascend the stairs if they don’t want to — there will be an in-suite elevator.

Along with a private gym and sauna, an in-suite dining area will feature a glass-enclosed bar. The suite will have access to a venue called The Study, which is a private dining room accommodating up to 12 guests and situated between two of the ship’s restaurants, Prime 7 and Chartreuse.

Seven Seas Prestige is the first of two ships that will comprise the line’s new Prestige class.

At Regent, we are committed to setting new standards in ultra-luxury travel, and the Skyview Regent Suite is a true embodiment of that promise, said Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer for Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

At nearly 9,000 square feet, this breathtaking two-level suite delivers the most exclusive and elevated experience at sea, complete with every imaginable luxury included in the voyage fare,Montague added.

Miami-based Studio DADO created the Skyview Regent Suite design, which is described as having clean architectural lines and a neutral color palette. Skylights will ensure plenty of natural light, and the suite’s bar area offers ocean views.

The suite’s upper level hosts the main suite, including a bedroom, sitting area, and bathroom with a hand-carved tub, walk-in shower, and sauna. The private gym will have training equipment and a dedicated massage room.

Adding to the ultra-luxe experience, guests booking the new suite will enjoy the services of a private car and driver in every port call.

Luxury Ship’s Maiden Voyage Is a 2026 Holiday Cruise

The 77,000-gross ton Seven Seas Prestige is scheduled to sail her maiden voyage on December 13, 2026, a 14-night transatlantic crossing from Barcelona to PortMiami.

Once homeported for the winter season in Miami, the ship will sail 10- to 12-night voyages across the Caribbean, including two transits of the Panama Canal.

In April 2027, the ship will sail a 14-night “Emerald East Coast” voyage from Miami to New York, and then operate an eastbound transatlantic crossing — a 14-night “Gilded Crossing” — to Barcelona in advance of summer itineraries in Europe.
