Royal Caribbean Offers Perks to Guests Willing to Skip Overbooked Alaska Cruise

Key Aspects:

  • Voyager of the Seas’ next Alaska sailing, which embarks on June 19, 2026, is overbooked.
  • Royal Caribbean is hoping some guests will be willing to make a last-minute change to their travel plans in exchange for some generous perks.
  • Guests who volunteer to pivot may not hear if they were selected until one day before embarkation in Seattle.

Cruises to Alaska are always in high demand, but Royal Caribbean is learning the hard way what happens when a sailing becomes too popular.

Voyager of the Seas’ June 19, 2026, departure was oversold and the cruise line is now scrambling to tempt some guests to make last-minute changes to their travel plans.

The 7-night sailing features many of Alaska’s biggest highlights, including Juneau, Skagway, Endicott Arm Fjord, and Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

Royal Caribbean sent out its request to guests on June 12, 2026, exactly one week before embarkation in Seattle, Washington.

“Ahead of our Voyager of the Seas June 19, 2026, sailing, we are looking to see if you and your travel party have flexible travel arrangements,” Royal Caribbean wrote in a letter to its future guests, which was obtained by Cruise Hive.

Adding another layer to this last-minute predicament, those who volunteer to reschedule might not hear if their offer is accepted until as late as June 18, one day before departure.

One cruiser inquired on Reddit: “Our plans are flexible a week out. But a couple days might be an issue. It eventually says if you haven’t heard from us BY JUNE 18th you are on your original travel plan. That’s the day before lol. Surely they’ll tell us before?”

Especially as many avid cruisers like to travel to their departure port early to allow time for potential delays, Royal Caribbean is certainly cutting things close.

What Options Do Guests Have?

If passengers are unable to change their travel plans at this late hour, there is no requirement to do so. They can simply mark the email as “read” and move on.

But if guests can be flexible, Royal Caribbean hopes they will volunteer to switch to a different Alaska itinerary. Volunteering will come with a complete refund of their cruise fare plus a 50% future cruise credit to put toward a new voyage.

These guests would also be booked in the same or a similar stateroom category and would be reimbursed for any non-refundable, pre-purchased travel expenses.

If passengers are married to specifically sailing onboard the 3,602-guest Voyager of the Seas, one option is to wait for her 7-night Alaska cruises that embark in Seattle on September 18 or September 25, 2026.

Alternatively, they could switch to Anthem of the Seas’ August 24 itinerary, which is a 7-night sailing from Seattle to Ketchikan, Sitka, Endicott Arm Fjord and Dawes Glacier, Juneau, and Victoria.

The Quantum-class ship also has room on its subsequent August 31 sailing, which will visit Sitka, Skagway, Juneau, and Victoria over the course of seven days.

As another option, another possible itinerary will be operated by Ovation of the Seas and will depart from Royal Caribbean’s brand new cruise terminal in Seward, Alaska, on August 28.

This is another 7-night cruise that will sail one-way from Seward to Vancouver, calling at Hubbard Glacier, Juneau, Skagway, and Icy Strait Point along the way.

If none of these options sound good, passengers can also opt to cancel in exchange for a full refund and a 100% future cruise credit to put toward any Royal Caribbean sailing they want.

Will More Sailings Be Overbooked?

While nothing is certain, this isn’t the first overbooked Royal Caribbean sailing that Cruise Hive has covered, and it likely will not be the last.

In order to maximize revenue and counteract last-minute cancellations and no-shows, it’s standard practice for cruise lines to book beyond 100% capacity. An empty cabin is perishable revenue and some guests always do drop out.

Experts analyze historical data to pinpoint how many cabins the cruise line can safely sell for each voyage, but sometimes the estimates don’t get it exactly right.

The Alaska cruise season also tends to be particularly busy. Not only is Alaska one of the most sought after cruise destinations in the US, but the season overlaps with summer break when kids are out of school and families like to go on vacation.

All that said, cruisers shouldn’t be worried about their sailing being oversold. Typically, there are many passengers who will happily snatch up the compensation to adjust their plans so that remaining guests get the onboard experience they want and expect.

Did Carnival Legend Really Hit a Sandbar in the Baltic Sea?

Social media is full of crazy suggestions, AI-generated falsehoods, and attention-grabbing headlines that don’t quite add up to truth. Such is the case with a recent Reddit thread that claimed “Carnival Legend Hit Sand Bar” when, in fact, the ship is just fine.

The post was made on Friday evening, June 12, after the 88,500-gross-ton, Spirit class ship had left Tallinn, Estonia and was on her way to Helsinki, Finland.

Roughly 20 miles northwest of Tallinn, after Carnival Legend left port, the ship slowed to a near stop and spent some time making a few turns in the area before moving on with her route to Helsinki. During that slow time, some guests became concerned that something might be amiss with the ship.

“My family is currently on the ship and stated that they just ran aground on a sandbar and are currently stuck. As of right now, passengers have not been notified as to what the plan of action is for moving forward and getting the ship unstuck,” the poster on Reddit shared.

The concern is understandable as cruise ships can develop propulsion issues that may lead to delays, missed ports, and cancelled sailings.

Depending on weather conditions at the time, the ship may even have shuddered slightly as her speed was reduced or seemed to roll more than expected, which could cause even more trepidation.

It is not unheard of for ships to become stuck on sandbars or other obstacles, either, as Cruise Hive has previously reported. In April 2026, Fiji Princess became stuck on a coral reef near Fiji, while in May 2026, Carnival Breeze got stuck near Belize when her anchor snagged and was unable to be freed right away.

Tallinn and Helsinki, however, are just 50 miles apart across the Gulf of Finland, with an average depth in the channel of 125 feet (far too deep for sandbars).

It is common practice for cruise ships moving between the two capital cities to travel slowly and to make curves or circles along the way.

Carnival Legend Track
Carnival Legend Track (Cruise Hive’s Cruise Ship Tracker)

The same tactics are used in the Bahamas when ships may be visiting private islands on one day followed by Nassau, Freeport, or Bimini the next day. The destinations are very close together and the ships simply take leisurely routes to get there.

Carnival Legend docked in Helsinki as planned with no delays and has already moved on in her 12-night Scandinavian and Baltic Sea itinerary. The ship first departed from Dover on Sunday, June 7, and is visiting ports in the Netherlands, Germany, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and Belgium before returning to the UK on June 19.

Other Guests Clarify What Really Happened

Cruise Hive reached out to Carnival Cruise Line for clarification about the ship’s position and speed but the cruise line did not respond to the inquiry. Other guests onboard Carnival Legend, however, shared more explanations.

“I am currently on this boat. We did not hit a sand bar. We did however complete an annual compass calibration that took several hours as we spun in a very, very slow circle,” one guest said.

This would explain the slow speed and the circling Carnival Legend did on her way between port visits.

“I’m also on this ship and can verify this was a planned calibration which was communicated to us in advance,” another guest noted.

Carnival Legend‘s cruise director (currently Simon London) did make announcements explaining the process. During the maneuver all onboard operations proceeded normally.

The social media drama, including jokes about sandbar beach days, drink packages, and the possibility of damage to the ship, was surprising to those onboard who have no idea how the sandbar idea even got started.

Carnival Cruisers Can Now Reserve Private Beachfront Cabanas in Australia

Key Aspects:

  • Carnival Cruise Line has unveiled the brand-new Tangalooma Dunes Cabana Club on Moreton Island in Australia.
  • 20 private cabanas are already available to pre-reserve at a cost of $399.99 AUD per cabana.
  • Each cabana has room for eight guests, and comes with luxurious perks like phone charging ports and cooling capabilities.

Carnival Cruise Line is bringing a taste of beachfront luxury to Australian cruisers for the first time ever with the Tangalooma Dunes Cabana Club.

Carnival guests are now able to reserve one of 20 private cabanas on Moreton Island, Queensland, for sailings that embark on or after August 1, 2026.

“Carnival is proud to offer the first beachfront cabana club for cruise guests in Australia,” said Carnival’s Assistant Vice President Sales & Marketing Anton Loeb.

Each cabana will offer stunning views of the pristine Tangalooma Beach, which has won awards for its natural beauty.

This new Cabana Club adds an extra element of luxury to one of Australia’s most popular cruise destinations. According to the cruise line, Australians show the most demand for South Pacific sailings, followed by voyages to Moreton Island.

And with luxury comes a hefty price tag to match. Cruise Hive learned that it will cost $399.99 AUD (about $281 USD) to rent one of these limited cabanas.

What Do the Carnival Cabanas Include?

The new cabanas will have room for up to eight passengers, making them a great option for families or groups of friends to enjoy the island.

“The cabanas are perfect for families or groups of friends looking to spend a day relaxing in style on beautiful Moreton Island,” Loeb noted.

Aside from stunning views and a guaranteed, private spot to relax on the beach, the cabanas will also come with direct beach access and lockable storage to keep personal belongings safe while enjoying the ocean. Complimentary towels will also be provided.

Tangalooma Beach is famous for its wild dolphin hand-feeding program, as well as snorkeling and diving at the Tangalooma Wrecks, an impressive collection of 15 deliberately sunken ships that have been turned into a marine sanctuary.

Guests will also find an in-cabana fridge, adjustable shutters, and a fan to cool things off. Even in the winter, temperatures on the island can reach into the high 70s, and it’s easy to work up a sweat playing on the beach.

Additionally, charging ports will be installed to keep smartphones juiced up for all of the guests’ photography and videography desires.

Guests who are interested in pre-booking this experience can already do so online, or can try their luck at the shore excursions desk after setting sail.

Cruising to Moreton Island

Carnival Cruise Line is the only brand to operate in Australia during the winter (June to August) and to cruise to Moreton Island year-round.

This is partly because Carnival has a long-standing partnership with Tangalooma Island Resort, which offers exclusive access for cruise ships at the third-largest sand island in the world.

Carnival Adventure and Carnival Splendor, both of which are based in Sydney, Australia, will call at Moreton Island nine times before the end of the year.

Most of the sailings are 4-night getaway cruises, but each ship will operate one 9-night voyage that includes Moreton Island, Airlie Beach, Cairns, and Willis Island.

The 108,865-gross ton Carnival Adventure will operate this limited itinerary first in August, followed by Carnival Splendor in September.

Dream Cruise Suites Your Whole Family Will Love

Key Aspects:

  • Royal Caribbean has the best suites for families.
  • Royal Caribbean and Disney Cruises have the largest suites for families.
  • Other cruise lines with family-specific suite offerings include Norwegian Cruise Line and Carnival Cruise Line.

Not all cruise lines cater to families, but for those who do, they’ve realized something: When on vacation, families don’t want to cram everyone together into one balcony cabin or a few adjoining cabins. Families dream of something bigger, better, more playful and fun. They want a suite that’s entirely designed around their needs and that will deliver a truly amazing cruise, with memories that will last a lifetime.

If you’re with me, nodding along and thinking that that’s what you want for your family’s next cruise, too, you’re in the right place. These are the best suites for families, found across many different ships from a handful of different cruise lines.

Some are jaw-dropping incredible, featuring everything from in-suite slides to gaming rooms and beyond. Others just offer the basic family-friendly necessities, because sometimes that’s all you need. Whatever the case, you’re sure to find the best suite for your crew of little cruisers.

Royal Caribbean’s Ultimate Family Suite

The Ultimate Family Suite
The Ultimate Family Suite

When Royal Caribbean introduced the Ultimate Family Suite in 2018, debuting on Symphony of the Seas, well … let’s just say that family cruising fanatics were wow-ed in a big way. This suite delivers on its promise: It is truly the ultimate.

The suite features two stories of fun and all the suite perks you can handle. There’s an in-suite slide, an air hockey table, in-suite cinema with gaming (and more old-school games like Connect-Four, even if it is a super-sized version of the game). There’s a balcony with a jacuzzi, and a master bedroom for the parents. It sleeps up to eight people total.

As Royal Caribbean is apt to do, though, the cruise line upped the ante with Icon of the Seas’ suites, introducing the Ultimate Family Townhouse. The townhouse takes the Ultimate Family Suite to the next level, literally. Instead of two stories, it features three.

There are still fan-favorite features like the in-suite slide and hot tub on the terrace, as well as the cinema. It also sleeps up to eight guests and has three full bathrooms, a dining room, and a kitchenette.

Additionally, this suite, which is only on Icon-class ships thus far, gives cruisers immediate access to the family-focused Surfside Neighborhood, which was likewise first introduced on Icon of the Seas.

Yet another new offering for families that was originally introduced on Icon of the Seas, Surfside Family Suites are also located within that previously mentioned Surfside Neighborhood

These suites aren’t as flashy as the Ultimate suites, but they are still pretty cool. Designed with families with smaller kiddos in mind, each suite features one and a half bedrooms (for added privacy), split bathrooms and bunkbeds for the kids that include built-in televisions.

Suites can sleep up to four comfortably, and feature balconies that overlook the neighborhood.

Carnival Cruise Line’s Family Harbor Suites

Carnival Family Harbor Suite
Carnival Family Harbor Suite

Carnival Cruise Line similarly developed its own category of suites that keep families’ needs at the forefront. However, I’ll admit that, from experience, these suites aren’t nearly as creatively bold as what you’ll find on Royal Caribbean’s newest ships.

Still, they offer the main elements that many families are looking for. Some of us don’t need in-suite slides, we just need space to spread out and get out of one another’s hair.

All of the Carnival Cruise Line Family Harbor suites are nautically themed and have space for about five guests without getting crowded.

Just note, though, that these suites don’t include an entirely separate bedroom for the parents. You’ll still share the same, albeit larger, sleeping space, with a king bed, pull-down bunks, and/or a sofa bed. You do get a split-bathroom setup, though, with one full bathroom and a half bathroom, making for easier bath times and no more kids knocking on the door asking when you’ll get out.

Even better, you get a lot of great perks when you book one of these suites. Family Harbor suite guests enjoy access to the Family Harbor Lounge, which serves free breakfast and snacks, as well as provides activities like movies and games; free dining for kids at specialty restaurants; and one free evening of babysitting services.

Disney Cruises’ Concierge Suites

Disney Destiny Royal Suite Incredibles

Disney Cruises doesn’t necessarily call out its suites as family-friendly, but the cruise line doesn’t have to. When the entire brand is based around delivering amazing magic to kids and kids at heart, it’s just assumed that the suites will do their part as well.

Disney has multiple suites that I think you should consider for your next cruise, and we’re going to start with those that fit within the Concierge category.

“Concierge” is like Disney’s VIP category. Those in Concierge suites and cabins enjoy extra amenities and, as you could probably assume, concierge service. There’s also a concierge lounge.

The Concierge Royal Suite features two bedrooms and 2.5 baths, as well as a living and dining room. It can sleep five to seven people. Depending on the exact ship you’re on, you may or may not have a hot tub on your verandah.

Need another full bathroom? Get the very similar six-person, two-bedroom, three-full-bathroom Concierge One-Story Royal Suite (specifically only available on Disney Wish and Treasure, where the room are themed around Disney classics such as Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin and The Jungle Book).

A similar Two-Story Royal Suite, on the same ships, offers similar themes, but a spiral staircase separates the living and sleeping spaces.

If these Royal Suites offers too much space for you and your fam, you can opt for a Concierge one-bedroom suite, which also comes with a verandah and a single set-apart bedroom, as well as up to two bathrooms. There’s also a Concierge two-bedroom suite on Disney Wonder and Magic, that are overall just smaller at 945 square feet.

Disney Cruises’ Tower Suites

Disney Destiny Tower Suite

Disney Cruises’ Tower Suites, though, are considered to be even better than the Concierge suites. They’re literally situated within a fake ship funnel. You have to take an elevator to get to the suites. They’re all two stories and they all fit eight people.

They’re also massive. Literally, this suite was bigger than my house.

The one thing that I found missing? There’s no balcony or veranda, but you still get great views regardless.

In addition to the two main bedrooms, a children’s bedroom, and a library that can be used as a bedroom as well, these suites come with 4.5 bathrooms.

Again, classic Disney themes abound, such as Fantasia and Moana. On Destiny, the theme is Marvel, specifically Iron Man.

Norwegian Cruise Line’s Family Suites

Norwegian Prima Family Suite
Norwegian Prima Family Suite

Sleeping up to six, Norwegian Cruise Line offers some family suites that provide a little more space than your average cabin.

The line’s basic family suites do not feature a separate bedroom, but have a wide-open floor plan, with living and dining areas and dividers that allow for a degree of separation. Plus, bathrooms feature tubs for the little ones.

Then, there are one and two-bedroom family suites that actually do have completely separate bedrooms set apart from the living areas, for even greater privacy.

Both options feature balconies and suite amenities like butler service.

There’s nothing particularly kid-friendly in the design, beyond the layout that allows for more separation and the occasional bathtub, but sometimes that’s all you really need, especially if you’d rather the kids be out exploring the ship and enjoying all the fun you paid for, versus holed up in their suite bedroom playing games.

Then, on Norwegian Cruise Line, there’s the Haven Family Villa, which comes in options with two or three bedrooms. The villas encompass multiple bedrooms, up to three bathrooms, dining areas, large balconies and living areas, and provide an upscale environment that you’ll be sad to leave.

Plus, because you’re staying in The Haven, the VIP area of the ship, you’ll enjoy extra-special amenities, such as 24-hour butler service, access to a private pool, your own Haven lounge and restaurant, and more.

That said, even though these villas seem to pack a lot, note that they can be on the smaller side, depending on which you book, with an almost shockingly small square footage.

What About Other Cruise Lines?

Of course, there are other cruise lines out there that cater to families, but some don’t offer specifically family-focused and designed suites.

MSC Cruises’ Family Offerings

For example, I’ve found MSC Cruises to be a great cruise line for traveling with kids, but the brand doesn’t have any family-specific suites beyond just interconnecting cabins and your typical, basic suites.

That said, MSC Cruises does offer some booking options that are listed as Superfamily Plus, Superfamily + Ocean view or Balcony, Superfamily, Family balcony and Family Ocean view. What does this all mean?

Premium Suite Aurora on MSC World America

Basically, it means that you’re booking two or more connecting cabins that can accommodate up to 10 individuals, all under one booking number. These aren’t special cabins by any means. They’re just connected.

This option is available on MSC Virtuosa, MSC Grandiosa, MSC Bellissima, MSC Meraviglia, MSC Seaview, MSC Seaside, MSC Preziosa, MSC Divina and MSC Opera.

Celebrity Cruises’ Family Offerings

While maybe not the best cruise line for kids overall, previously, Celebrity Cruises did offer what it called a family veranda stateroom. Then the cruise line changed the name of these staterooms to the Ultra Deluxe Veranda Stateroom.

Available on Celebrity Millennium, Celebrity Summit, Celebrity Solstice, Celebrity Eclipse and Celebrity Reflection, these are the largest staterooms with a veranda and are still billed as suitable for traveling families, thanks to their size.

These suites measure in at 630–680 square feet and come with two bedrooms, a big balcony and one bathroom.

Chaos at Royal Caribbean’s Beach Club as Guests Brawl in Nassau

Key Aspects:

  • A large fight was filmed at the Floating Flamingo at Royal Beach Club Paradise Island this week.
  • Several security personnel and other employees had to intervene to break up the altercation.
  • No official statement has been released but the guests are in violation of Royal Caribbean’s conduct policies.

It’s been a rough and tumble week for cruise guests in Nassau, Bahamas, as another violent altercation has occurred, this time at Royal Caribbean’s private club that opened in late December 2025.

Cruise Hive already reported on the five cruise guests who were arrested after fighting in the cruise port area and continuing their altercation at the police station on Monday, June 8. That fight caused property damage and even injured police officers.

Another brawl recently erupted at the Royal Beach Club on Paradise Island, just across the harbor from Nassau Cruise Port. A video of the incident was posted on Facebook on June 9, though it may have been filmed at an earlier date.

The video, which is just over a minute long, shows at least a dozen guests involved in a very physical exchange, including slaps, pushes, hair pulling, and punches. Even after some guests fell to the ground, they continued fighting with one another.

While most of the participants in the altercation appear to be women, some men are nearby and involved on the edge of the fight. It is unclear whether everyone was involved from the beginning or if some joined in as the situation escalated.

Music from the nearby DJ covers any specific words in the video, though some guests are obviously yelling at one another. It’s a fair bet they were not exchanging polite pleasantries.

The fight occurred at the south side of the Floating Flamingo Pool & Swim Up Bar, a central gathering spot at the Royal Beach Club on Paradise Island. Colorful arching architecture stretches over the pool, which is surrounded by brightly colored chairs and loungers.

At least three security personnel and several Royal Beach Club employees intervened as the fight continued, attempting to break up the participants and calm the situation. Some other guests also appeared to step in to try and keep their friends from continuing the scuffle.

Throughout the video, other guests stay clear of the area and one woman quickly moves her young children out of the way.

As the video ends, the fight appears to have calmed, though one voice is heard saying “Get out of here,” and that may have been the individual filming the video or another nearby guest choosing not to pursue the event and instead distance themselves from the spectacle.

Because the exact date of the fight is unknown, it is unclear which ship the guests may have been visiting from. On Tuesday, June 9, the day the video was posted, Utopia of the Seas was the only Royal Caribbean ship visiting Nassau.

What Will Happen to the Involved Guests?

Royal Caribbean has not made any public statement about the altercation or guest misbehavior, but it is likely that the involved guests may face harsh penalties.

The cruise line’s Guest Health, Safety, and Conduct Policy explicitly outlines expectations for guest behavior as well as the consequences for poor behavior.

Depending on the exact situation that led to the fight, involved guests may be in violation of the policy in several ways. For example, any “verbally abusive or offensive language directed toward anyone” is not permitted, whether slurs or profanity are used toward other guests or crew members.

Likewise, “inappropriate or abusive behavior” is not permitted, which includes “uninvited physical contact” (legalese for fighting). “Disruptive and discourteous” behavior is also prohibited, and certainly the fight was disruptive and discourteous to other guests who were simply trying to enjoy a fun day at the pool.

The policy does cover the cruise line’s private destinations, including the Royal Beach Club properties, and all guests agree to abide by the policy when they book a Royal Caribbean cruise.

Violations lead to a variety of consequences, including removal of onboard privileges, suspension of loyalty benefits, being removed from the ship, or even being completely banned from future Royal Caribbean cruises.

The incident may also have been reported to local authorities for processing and possible charges.

Carnival Urges Guests Not to Waste Time on Debunked Stateroom Hack

Key Aspects:

  • A hack to get a cruise cabin upgrade on embarkation day is once again circulating on social media.
  • John Heald has reminded guests that Carnival ships are fully booked and random upgrades are not possible.
  • Unusual and emergency circumstances might warrant switching to a different stateroom on rare occasions.

A long-standing cruise stateroom hack is making the rounds on social media again and has been brought to the attention of John Heald, Carnival Cruise Line’s brand ambassador.

Despite his recent announcement of stepping back from some of his online interactions, Heald still answers guest questions and helps clarify Carnival’s policies, and this persistent rumor is one that needs that clarification.

The message, which Heald shared on Facebook, comes from a guest who claims to have the information from a “top cruise influencer.”

“This link I am sending you John Heald [gives] tips on how to get an upgrade to your room on embarkation day at the guest services desk. Is this correct and how come you have never told people this?” the guest asked.

“If this is not true then I think that Carnival should randomly give upgrades to cruisers on embarkation day. It would be great press if you did.”

These stateroom hacks are similar to telling flight attendants you’re on your honeymoon in the hopes of scoring an upgrade to first class, or mentioning a honeymoon or anniversary when checking into a hotel as a way to get upgraded to better accommodations or receive other freebies.

On cruises, some of the “tricks” include mentioning claustrophobia and needing a larger stateroom or the cruise will be ruined, celebrating special occasions, being a first-time cruiser, or otherwise trying to stand out as worthy of a free upgrade.

While every business operates in different ways with respect to upgrades, Heald is very clear that Carnival Cruise Line does not fall for that type of wishful thinking.

“Most of our cruises are sold out which we are very grateful to you all for,” he confirmed. “We do not give out upgrades at Guest Services unless there are unforeseen or unusual circumstances.”

Carnival Cruise Ship Stateroom
Carnival Cruise Ship Stateroom (Photo Copyright: Cruise Hive)

Carnival Cruise Line has reported record bookings for 2026, including an average occupancy rate of 103% across all Carnival brands. This is possible because not only are all staterooms booked, but many rooms are higher than double occupancy, with third and fourth guests sharing the same cabin with family members and friends.

What Unusual Circumstances Might Warrant an Upgrade?

While Heald does not define exactly what “unusual circumstances” might warrant an unexpected and complimentary upgrade, such situations are few and far between.

Cruise Hive has occasionally reported on guests switching staterooms when a cabin may be accidentally flooded or have severe technical problems (a constantly overflowing toilet comes to mind). At those times, the initial stateroom is uninhabitable and guests will be relocated to a different room that may or may not be an upgrade from their booked cabin.

A confirmed bed bug infestation or other damage might also prompt a stateroom change or upgrade.

These types of upgrades happen on all cruise lines when necessary. For example, on a November 2023 sailing of Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas, a couple’s original stateroom was torn up for repairs when they boarded the Oasis class ship.

Because of communication errors between the ship and the port check-in staff, the couple received keys to the flood-damaged room and had to spend several hours sorting out the confusion before being moved to a different room.

New MSC Mega-Ship Will Feature the Longest Dry Slide at Sea, Spanning 12 Decks

Key Aspects:

  • MSC Cruises has unveiled the Tree of Life, a 32-foot-tall centerpiece aboard MSC World Asia.
  • The attraction will feature The Spiral @ Tree of Life, a 266-foot dry slide spanning 12 decks and will be the longest dry slide at sea.
  • The centerpiece will anchor The Harbor family entertainment district.

MSC Cruises is offering a closer look at one of the most recognizable features planned for its next flagship.

The cruise line has unveiled new images of the Tree of Life, a large architectural centerpiece currently under construction aboard MSC World Asia at Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France.

The attraction will serve as the focal point of The Harbour, the ship’s outdoor family activity and dining area.

Standing 32 feet above the deck, the Tree of Life will weigh close to 8 tons. MSC Cruises says the structure incorporates nearly 500 feet of integrated LED lighting that will allow its appearance to change throughout the day and evening.

A walkway wrapped around the structure will lead guests to The Spiral @ Tree of Life, a 266-foot dry slide stretching across 12 decks. MSC Cruises say the attraction will become the longest dry slide at sea when the ship enters service, December 4, 2026.

The slide will connect directly to the ship’s World Promenade, one of MSC World Asia’s main public areas for dining, entertainment, and ocean views.

“Meet the Tree of Life,” the cruise line shared in a video on its Facebook page“By day, a gathering place at the heart of The Harbor outdoor park. By night, a glowing centrepiece of onboard entertainment.”

The Harbor area will also feature waterslides, a ropes-course-style Adventure Trail, playground areas, dining venues, and Cliffhanger, the cruise line’s over-water swing attraction that debuted on MSC World America.

MSC Cruises says the Tree of Life’s design was inspired by contemporary Asian cities and Singapore’s famous Supertrees at Marina Bay, tying into the vessel’s Asia-themed design elements.

MSC World Asia Nears Completion

MSC World Asia is the third vessel in MSC Cruises’ World Class series, following the 2022 debut of MSC World Europa and the 2025 launch of MSC World America.

Construction officially began in March 2024 with a steel-cutting ceremony at the French shipyard that also completed its sister ships. The vessel is expected to measure 215,863 gross tons and carry up to 6,758 passengers at maximum occupancy, making it one of the largest in MSC Cruises’ fleet.

Like its sister ships, MSC World Asia will be organized into seven distinct onboard districts, each offering its own mix of dining, entertainment, accommodations and attractions. The vessel is not meant to be an Asia-based ship but instead incorporates design, dining, and entertainment inspiration from the continent.

Entering service on December 4, 2026, MSC World Asia’s inaugural cruise will depart from Barcelona, Spain, beginning a winter season of 7-night Mediterranean voyages. The itineraries will include calls in Marseille, France; Genoa, Civitavecchia (Rome), and Messina, Italy; and Valletta, Malta.

Guests will also have the option to embark or disembark at several of those ports for a more fluid sailing schedule.

Following MSC World Asia is MSC World Atlantic, scheduled to debut in 2027, also under construction at Chantiers de l’Atlantique.

Construction Starts on Sixth Icon-Class Ship Before the Real Build Begins

Key Aspects:

  • The sixth Icon-class ship isn’t officially under construction yet, but work has already begun on her future floating engine room unit.
  • Construction on the actual vessel will likely begin in the Meyer Turku Shipyard later in 2026 or 2027.
  • Royal Caribbean intends to launch the unnamed megaship in 2029.

Royal Caribbean’s sixth Icon-class ship is meeting major construction milestones before the steel has even been cut.

Construction is yet to begin in the Meyer Turku Shipyard in Turku, Finland. But in the meantime, the work on the floating engine room unit (FERU) officially began in the Crist Shipyard in the Port of Gdynia, Poland, on June 8, 2026.

“The start of FERU production is a significant milestone in the project’s progress. A well-designed and carefully prepared start of production creates a strong foundation for the success of the entire project,” Icon 6 Project Manager Kimmo Suutari stated.

Meyer Turku and Crist have a strong partnership, and in fact, this will actually be the fourth FERU built through a collaboration between the two shipyards.

“Crist is already a familiar shipyard to us, and we have successfully built a strong spirit of cooperation between the project organisations,” FERU Project Manager Marja Aartovaara also added.

“In addition, we have an excellent site team at the shipyard to ensure that the FERU is built on schedule and with high quality,” Aartovaara continued.

For context, the FERU refers to a prefabricated mega-block that contains the entire power plant (with the main engines, LNG tanks, and auxiliary machinery) for modern cruise ships. Once completed, it will be brought to the primary shipyard via tugboats.

What Do We Know About Icon 6?

Cruise Hive reported that Royal Caribbean ordered its sixth and seventh Icon-class ships at the end of April. But beyond that, little is known about the upcoming additions to the fleet.

As delivery of the sixth ship in the fleet is scheduled for 2029, work will likely officially begin in Meyer Turku later in 2026 or in 2027. Construction typically starts with a traditional steel cutting ceremony, and then it takes one to three years to complete the job.

Giving an idea of timing, the original Icon of the Seas began construction on June 14, 2021, and entered service on January 27, 2024, about two years and seven months later.

Things went slightly faster for Star of the Seas. The 5,610-guest ship began construction on February 15, 2023, and entered service two years and six months later on August 31, 2025.

Legend of the Seas, which formally debuts on the 4th of July, will have also completed the construction process in two years and six months at the time of its launch.

It’s unclear how similar or different the sixth ship will be compared to her older sisters, but Royal Caribbean is certainly taking notes to continue innovating and improving the guest experience as the fleet grows.

More Icon-Class Ships Under Construction

Currently, two earlier Icon-class vessels are under construction at the shipyard. Hero of the Seas, the fourth Icon-class ship, has been under construction since September 2025  and is scheduled to debut in August of 2027.

The fifth Icon-class ship began construction earlier this year on January 19, 2026, and is supposed to debut in 2028.

Before things can really get underway for the sixth ship in the popular class, her older sisters will need to move out of her way, or at least get further along in the process.

Meyer Turku shipyard is able to build two to three large cruise ships at once because their massive dry dock and outfitting piers require extensive staging, staggering the construction pipelines, and extensive planning to coordinate it all.

Cruise Passengers Fined More Than $52K After Nassau Police Station Brawl

Key Aspects:

  • Six American cruise passengers have been fined a total of more than $52,000 for a brawl in Nassau on Monday, June 8.
  • The incident involved property damage, injury to officers, obscene language, and other charges.
  • All six passengers were from Colorado but it is not known what cruise ship or line they were sailing with at the time.

The six American cruise passengers who were arrested in Nassau on Monday, June 8, 2026 have now been fined a total of more than $52,000 for damages and injuries from their behavior.

Cruise Hive initially reported the incident involving what was then believed to be five cruise guests. The fight began in the Nassau Cruise Terminal but later escalated as the suspects were taken into custody.

According to The Tribune, all six visitors are from Colorado and range in age from 19-50: Jaeyln Duran (19), Andrew Tapia (21), Daniella Duran (22), Irvin Castro (26), Gabriella Aguilar (27), and Jose Duran (50).

Together, the group faces charges that include assaulting a police officer, disorderly conduct, obscene language, resisting arrest, causing dangerous harm, and causing damage and obstruction.

The fight began in the cruise port area and was reported to authorities just after 4:45 p.m. on Monday afternoon. This was when guests would have been returning to their cruise ships and the terminal would be more crowded.

The cause of the fight has not been released, and it is not known whether the incident in the cruise terminal may have been a continuation of an earlier altercation.

Upon arriving at the Tourism Police Station, just outside the port area and across the street from the Bahamas Museum of Junkanoo, the defendants escalated the fight and attempted to flee custody.

Their actions included dislocating one officer’s shoulder and causing minor injuries to several others, as well as damaging private property and breaking the glass door of the police station. The suspects also suffered minor injuries and were treated by emergency personnel.

All defendants pled guilty to the assorted charges and claimed they were intoxicated during the fight and subsequent actions at the police station.

This incident is not related to another Nassau brawl reported later in the week that involved more than a dozen people at Royal Caribbean’s Royal Beach Club Paradise Island. It is not known whether the individuals involved in that altercation were arrested or if they will face any charges.

Fines Add Up Fast

Each defendant in the cruise terminal brawl was fined various amounts for their actions or offered the alternative of time in prison. Daniella, for example, was fined $16,600 or one year in prison, and must also compensate two officers a total of $2,625 for injuries and damage.

Both Gabriella and Jaeyln were fined $11,600 or six months in prison, and each must pay one of the officers $125 for damages.

Irvine was fined $2,800 or six months in prison and must compensate one of the officers $2,500, while Andrew was fined $4,600 or one year in prison and Jose was fined $150 or one month in prison.

Together, the fines add up to $47,350, while the compensation to different officers is another $5,375. This brings the grand total of fines and compensatory fees to a whopping $52,725 for the six cruise guests.

While it has not been revealed which of the cruise ships the guests had been traveling on at the time of their arrest, it’s a fair bet that those fees were more expensive than their travel plans, even with drink packages.

Six different ships from four cruise lines were in Nassau that day: Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas; Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration; Disney Fantasy; and Caribbean Princess.

Of the roughly 30,000 cruise guests those ships brought to the capital of the Bahamas on Monday, 29,994 managed to avoid being arrested and charged for multiple violations.

Cruise lines have always been clear that guests must follow all local laws and are responsible for their own behavior. It is possible the guests may also face additional consequences from their cruise line, such as being banned from future travel, loss of loyalty benefits, or other penalties.
