Perfect Day Turns Ugly After Guest Brawl Shuts Down Pool at CocoCay

Key Aspects:

  • A large brawl broke out in the Oasis Lagoon on CocoCay on Sunday, August 3, while two ships were enjoying the private island.
  • The pool was temporarily closed afterward, possibly for cleaning and sanitizing if blood was spilled.
  • Royal Caribbean has not issued an official statement, but those involved are likely to face consequences for their unruly behavior.

A cruise vacation should be a peaceful time to relax and enjoy the company of friends and family while having fun at top destinations.

One of Royal Caribbean’s top destinations is Perfect Day at CocoCay, the cruise line’s private island in the Bahamas. Guests aboard Utopia of the Seas and Jewel of the Seas, however, experienced neither a relaxing utopia nor a jewel of a visit on Sunday, August 3.

Both ships were sailing 3-night weekend getaways that departed on Friday, August 1. Utopia of the Seas sails from Port Canaveral, while Jewel of the Seas sails from Fort Lauderdale.

During their day at CocoCay, a fight involving at least a dozen or more guests broke out in the Oasis Lagoon. The freshwater pool includes a swim-up bar and in-water loungers, and the altercation happened in waist-deep water.

Video posted on social media shows fists flying, angry splashes, yelling, profanity, pushing, slaps, and other physical violence between multiple adults.

Other guests on the island who were not involved reported that there was blood and hair in the pool after the incident, and some guests were seen being escorted away by security.

The Oasis Lagoon was temporarily closed after the fight, which would have been a necessary precaution if blood were spilled. Cleanup and sanitization would be essential after such an event.

Royal Caribbean has not yet issued an official statement about the incident.

As the fight occurred on CocoCay, charges could be brought through the Bahamian authorities depending on the extent of any injuries or how the fight began or escalated.

The guests involved are also likely to face consequences directly from Royal Caribbean. The cruise line’s Guest Conduct Policy states:

“Verbally abusive or offensive language directed toward anyone, including guests, crew members, governmental officials, or others is not permitted.”

The policy also notes that “inappropriate or abusive behavior is not permitted,” which includes “uninvited physical contact.”

All guests agree to the Guest Conduct Policy when they book a Royal Caribbean cruise. Violations can result in a range of consequences, from being admonished by security to the removal of the involved guests and everyone in their travel party from the cruise.

Involved guests might also be banned from Royal Caribbean and related cruise lines.

This is not the first time a fight has occurred at CocoCay. In May 2025, a brawl between several guests escalated over the use of ocean space in the Chill Island area.

Reactions of Other Guests

While fights certainly don’t happen on every cruise, it does seem like such incidents are becoming more common.

Longtime cruisers often wonder what can be done to dissuade such behavior. Cruise lines do try to have security visibly posted in public areas, but that isn’t always a deterrent, especially in a large area like the Oasis Lagoon.

Many cruisers have suggested bans not just from one cruise line, but from entire cruise line families. For Royal Caribbean, this would include Celebrity Cruises and Silversea, both of which are also part of the Royal Caribbean Group.

While a multi-line ban may seem harsh, it isn’t necessarily meaningful. While many cruisers enjoy sailing with different lines, people who feel no compunction against brawling in public aren’t always the type of travelers to sail on premium or luxury lines.

Some experienced cruisers hope that cruise lines might begin sharing information on banned individuals.

More From Cruise Hive

This could mean that someone banned from Royal Caribbean might also be banned on Carnival Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, or Norwegian Cruise Line.

Sharing such identifying information, not to mention details of incidents and their consequences, may face legal challenges. At this time, no cruise lines share such information outside of their corporate families.
