Carnival on the Rise With Record Bookings and Strong Demand

Carnival Corporation, the world’s largest cruise company, has released its business update for the first quarter of 2023, reporting a record-breaking quarter with exceptional booking volumes and strong financial performance.

The company’s first-quarter revenue was almost equivalent to the levels achieved in 2019, and it exceeded its guidance for the quarter, surpassing expectations. Carnival’s Q1 earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization, also outperformed its guidance by more than $30 million. However, the outlook for 2023 could be something that investors are not overjoyed with.

Strong Q1 2023 for Carnival Corporation

Carnival Corporation has started 2023 on a high note, exceeding the guidance it had put out during Q4 of 2022 by a considerable margin. The world’s largest cruise company also set a record for the highest number of bookings in a single quarter in history. At the same time, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization exceeded expectations by more than $30 million.

Carnival Corporation reported a US GAAP net loss of $693 million and an adjusted net loss of $690 million, significantly better than the December guidance range of $750 to $850 million net loss for Q1 2023.

Adjusted EBITDA for the first quarter reached $382 million, outperforming the guidance range of $250 to $350 million. First-quarter revenue reached $4.4 billion, 95% of the company’s revenue in 2019.

CEO Josh Weinstein commented on the company’s performance: “In the first quarter, we outperformed our guidance on all measures. We achieved record first-quarter net per diems, exceeding the high end of our guidance, driven by improving ticket prices and sustained growth in onboard revenue while delivering an additional seven points of occupancy on higher capacity compared to the prior quarter.”

The significantly better numbers for the first quarter have ensured Carnival can also start using cash to pay back the enormous mountain of debt it has accumulated over the last three years. Much of that cash is coming from a record-breaking Wave Season.

Chief Financial Officer David Bernstein noted: “We believe our debt balance has peaked this quarter and will reduce over time based on our ample liquidity position of $8.1 billion and the expected cash flow strength of our business.”

Record Booking Volumes

Carnival Corporation experienced its highest booking volumes for any quarter in its history, breaking records for North American, Australian, and European cruises.

Weinstein continued: “We are enjoying a phenomenal wave season, achieving our highest-ever quarterly booking volumes and breaking records in North America and Europe. Our strong performance has extended into March, and we expect this favorable trend to continue based on the success of our efforts to drive demand.”

Total customer deposits reached a first-quarter record of $5.7 billion as of February 28, 2023, surpassing the previous first-quarter record of $4.9 billion as of February 28, 2019, by 16%.

Is Carnival Corporation on the Way Back?

Carnival expects to return to 100% occupancy levels by the summer, where it already achieved 98% over the last quarter. It is also continuing to slim down, even removing Seabourn Odyssey from the fleet, a move that Carnival expects to make a gain on.

Moving three Costa Cruises cruise ships from Costa to the hugely successful Carnival Cruise Line looks like it will be a tremendously successful strategic decision, with interest in cruises onboard Carnival Luminosa, Carnival Venezia, and Carnival Firenze peaking.

The financial results announced today could signal the turnaround investors have been waiting for. In the past two years, the hope had been that Carnival Corporation could show the same performance as the competition, Royal Caribbean Group, in particular. However, while Royal has gained nearly $40 in its stock price since March 2020, Carnival Corporation has been lagging.

With occupancy levels returning to the 100% barrier and possibly going beyond, and bookings exceeding all expectations for 2023, Carnival Corporation could be returning to being the golden goose it once was. However, investors don’t seem to agree.

Carnival Corporation’s outlook for Q2 and the remainder of 2023 seems to be too negative, despite the company reporting better-than-expected fiscal first-quarter results and record bookings.

The company’s downbeat outlook for Q2 and the full-year losses caused the stock to turn lower, losing 6% after a strong opening, overshadowing the phenomenal revenue increase. The company expects a per-share loss of 42 cents to 34 cents for Q2 and adjusted per-share losses of 44 cents to 28 cents for the fiscal year 2023.

Carnival Cruise Ship Rescues Boat Taking on Water

Carnival Valor rescued three stranded boaters on Sunday, March 26, 2023, after being alerted to the emergency situation by the United States Coast Guard. The incident happened in the morning on the second day of the ship’s sailing, as the vessel had departed New Orleans on Saturday, March 25 for a 5-night Western Caribbean cruise.

Carnival Valor Rescue

Carnival Valor was contacted by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) shortly after 7 a.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2023, alerting the cruise ship to a vessel taking on water 386 miles (621 kilometers) offshore of Alabama.

The vessel in distress was the 44-foot recreational boat Snail Mail, with three boaters onboard, and had activated emergency gear on board to signal its condition.

The USCG received the emergency alert, and reached out to Carnival Valor as the nearest vessel able to assist the craft in distress. At the time, Carnival Valor was approximately 35 nautical miles (40 miles / 65 km) from the Snail Mail. An Aviation Training Center Mobile HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew was also mobilized.

The Conquest-class cruise ship diverted slightly from its route to intercept the distressed craft. Carnival Valor was en route to its first port of call on the 5-night Western Caribbean itinerary, Costa Maya, where the ship will be docked on Monday, March 27.

A rescue boat – one of the cruise ship’s lifeboats – was launched, and the three boaters – all males from Honduras – were safely taken aboard and transferred to the cruise ship. They have received appropriate medical care, food, and water, and are reported in good condition.

“Special thanks to the crew of the Carnival Valor for rescuing all three people aboard the sinking vessel,” said Lt. j.g. Gretchen Gochnour, a command duty officer at the District Eight Command Center. “The Coast Guard urges the boating public to emulate the Snail Mail by having an EPIRB and geolocating devices onboard before taking to the sea.”

“Moreover, the Coast Guard encourages commercial mariners to participate in AMVER [automated mutual-assistance vessel rescue system] and self-report their location as this played a pivotal role in this rescue.”

Next Steps

Because the rescued boaters were taken aboard during a day at sea, they will remain aboard Carnival Valor until the ship calls on Costa Maya on Monday. The ship is scheduled to be in port from 1-8 p.m., during which time the boaters will be transferred to the appropriate authorities.

A statement from Carnival Cruise Line confirms “Carnival Valor’s itinerary is unaffected.” Current tracking data also shows the ship on course as planned for Costa Maya.

After Costa Maya, the ship will visit Cozumel, Mexico on Tuesday, before enjoying Wednesday as another day at sea and arriving back to New Orleans on Thursday, March 30.

This is not the first rescue or emergency situation that Carnival Valor has been involved with. In November 2022, the ship made worldwide headlines for an overboard passenger who was rescued by another craft after nearly a full day in the water.

The ship is homeported year-round from Louisiana, offering 4-5 night Western Caribbean cruises. The shorter sailings only visit Cozumel, while the longer cruises also include Costa Maya or Progreso, depending on the departure date.

The 110,000-gross-ton Carnival Valor joined the Carnival fleet in 2004. The ship has a guest capacity of 2,980 passengers at double occupancy, and up to 3,756 guests when fully booked with all berths filled. Approximately 1,200 international crew members are also onboard to offer excellent service.

Speed Issues Change Multiple Itineraries for Royal Caribbean Ship

Royal Caribbean International has reached out to guests on multiple sailings of Anthem of the Seas to notify them of itinerary adjustments, shortening the times the ship will spend in different ports of call. While the changes are relatively minor, multiple changes on a single itinerary can add up significantly.

Anthem of the Seas Port Time Modifications

Guests booked on different sailings of the Quantum-class Anthem of the Seas have been informed that their cruises have been slightly adjusted, with port times modified for several destinations. All the communications are similar, stating:

“To maintain a safe and comfortable speed along our journey, we’ve adjusted the times we’ll visit [impacted ports of call].”

Both the June 4 and June 16 itineraries are confirmed to have similar changes, though the sailings are very different.

The June 4, 2023 departure is a 12-night Discover the Canaries cruise roundtrip from Southampton, with calls in Vigo, Spain; Funchal, Portugal; three destinations in the Canary Islands – Lanzarote, Las Palmas, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife; and Lisbon, Portugal.

For that sailing, the calls in Vigo, Funchal, and Lanzarote have all been shortened. Time in Vigo has been trimmed by two hours – arriving one hour later and departing one hour earlier than originally planned – while the times in Funchal and Lanzarote have been trimmed by just one hour each, arriving later than the original schedule.

The June 16, 2023 departure is a 7-night Norwegian Fjords cruise, also roundtrip from Southampton. On that sailing, the ship is visiting four different ports in Norway: Bergen, Olden, Maloy, and Kristiansand.

The port time adjustments for this cruise are more extreme, as the ship will now be in Bergen from 2:30-8 p.m. and in Kristiansand from noon until 8 p.m. The visits to Olden and Maloy are not changed, but this is still a loss of 4.5 total hours in port. The majority of that time is trimmed from Bergen, which was originally scheduled for 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Anthem of the Seas will also return to Southampton 30 minutes later than initially planned, with an anticipated arrival time at the end of the cruise of 6 a.m. rather than 5:30 a.m.

For both cruises, the email confirms that tours are being rescheduled for impacted ports of call. “Our Shore Excursions team will automatically reschedule any pre-paid Royal Caribbean International shore excursions affected by this change,” the email reads.

Guests who have booked independent tours should contact their tour operators to make time adjustments or arrange for cancellations and refunds if necessary.

Ongoing Propulsion Issues

Guests booked on recent and upcoming sailings of Anthem of the Seas have reported a variety of similar changes to multiple sailings, and earlier this month it was reported that the ship had a “mechanical limitation” with one of its engines that impacted overall speed.

This does not affect the ship’s safety or seaworthiness, nor are any onboard hotel, dining, or activity arrangements affected. Under normal operation, the ship’s top speed is 22 knots (25 miles per hour / 41 kilometers per hour).

This is also not the first time Anthem of the Seas has experienced engine issues affecting overall speed. Similar problems were also encountered in 2017, with similar solutions – slower speeds that altered port visits. At that time, and overnight port of call was used for any external mechanical work necessary.

At the moment, the 168,666-gross-ton Anthem of the Seas is homeported from New York, sailing 7-night Bahamas cruises that call at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private island destination. Nassau, the capital of The Bahamas, as well as Port Canaveral, Florida are also on those itineraries.

Due to the engine issues, however, several recent cruises have trimmed or skipped Port Canaveral.

On May 1, 2023, the ship will depart New York in a transatlantic repositioning cruise to Southampton, where she will be homeported all summer, offering a wide range of Mediterranean, Spain, Canary Islands, and Norway sailings.

In October, Anthem of the Seas will return to New York for another winter of Bahamas cruises, and she will again be homeported from Southampton in the spring and summer of 2024.

Boat Refuses Rescue From Newest Carnival Cruise Ship

Carnival Celebration has aided an overcrowded rowboat during a day at sea at the end of the new ship’s current sailing, but without taking the occupants aboard. The encounter was successful and all individuals were in good health, and provided with appropriate supplies as requested.

Carnival Celebration Provides Supplies to Refugees

On Friday, March 24, 2023, Carnival Celebration encountered a crowded rowboat while sailing northeast of Cozumel. The incident occurred at approximately 6 p.m. ship time (Eastern/Ship Time), when the small craft was sighted with at least 12 occupants, both male and female.

The cruise ship immediately diverted to offer assistance, prepared to take the people from the small craft aboard if necessary. The small boat was using multiple oars for propulsion and steering, but was not otherwise signaling for emergency aid. While constructed in part of varying materials, including duct tape, the craft seemed reasonably stable.

Carnival Celebration pulled up alongside and communicated with the craft, and while the occupants stated they did not want rescue, they did accept food and water. Everyone was observed to be alert and in good health, and the boat – while small and crowded – was not in immediate danger.

After the incident, Carnival Celebration‘s cruise director, Chris Williams, made an announcement to explain procedures to guests onboard.

“The most important thing to us of course here at Carnival Cruise Line and our captain and his amazing team is to make sure that we always make sure that people are safe and preserving life at sea,” he explained.

“We have spoken to the people in the boat and they do not need any rescuing at this time. All they need is of course any water or food. We’ve done everything to make sure that they have that and everyone seems in good health.”

Williams went on to note that Carnival’s shoreside team and the United States Coast Guard were both contacted about the encounter, which is standard procedure for such events. The cruise ship remained alongside the small craft until clarification of next steps was received, at which time the ship was released to continue on its sailing.

Why No Rescue?

Photos and video from guests onboard show that the individuals in the boat all had appropriate clothing to protect themselves from the sun and unpredictable weather, and the small boat was carrying storage containers for supplies.

While cruise ships are obligated to offer aid to anyone who may seem in distress – whether refugee boats, stranded mariners, fishermen, or other cruise ships – there is no requirement that anyone be forced to board a larger or more stable vessel, provided their own craft is reasonably sound.

The encounter took place approximately 90 miles (145 kilometers) east of Cancun, Mexico, and roughly 105 miles (169 km) northeast of Cozumel, where Carnival Celebration had visited earlier on the cruise, on Tuesday, March 21. Prior to the incident on Friday, the ship had visited Costa Maya on Wednesday and Roatan on Thursday.

The ship is currently sailing a 7-night roundtrip Western Caribbean itinerary from Miami, which will end on Sunday, March 26. There is no delay or change in the remaining part of the cruise due to this encounter.

This is not the first time the newest Carnival ship – Carnival Celebration just debuted in November 2022 – has encountered a small, haphazard craft. In early January, the ship rescued five refugees from a small raft off the coast of Cuba. In that incident, the refugees were taken aboard the cruise ship.

Famous Cruise Ship Captain Has Unexpected Reaction

Captain Kate McCue is famous as the first American woman to serve as master of a major cruise ship, but guests should be glad she’s the captain of Celebrity Beyond rather than one of the ship’s culinary staff. In a recent attempt at simple baking, her closest critic has deemed her efforts less than acceptable.

Captain Kate McCue’s Baking Attempt

In 2015, Kate McCue became master of Celebrity Summit, making history as the first female to command a cruise mega-ship. She has since captained a number of Celebrity Cruises vessels, and today is in command of the line’s most recent ship, the Edge-class Celebrity Beyond.

While as captain she fulfills a number of roles to oversee the ship’s entire crew and staff, the vessel’s safety, and guests’ satisfaction, she also has other duties on board to one very special crew member – Bug Naked, her pet Sphynx cat, who shares her quarters and is often seen out-and-about onboard in a feline stroller.

Cruise Ship Captain

Recently, Bug Naked celebrated her seventh birthday, and Captain McCue opted to bake the cat’s special cake herself – with hilarious results.

McCue purchased a specialty “birthday kit for cats” to bake a turkey-flavored cake with yogurt frosting, in a fun fish shape. Made with organic ingredients, able to be microwaved, and with a festive candle to finish the recipe, the idea seemed simple enough.

In a video that has generated almost 100,000 views, McCue documents her efforts and the special challenges involved with baking a pet cake on a cruise ship.

“I’ll need a third cup water – I don’t have any measuring cups,” McCue said, hitting her first obstacle just after opening the package.

She also lacked non-stick spray for the fish-shaped mold, but improvised with olive oil (which is safe for cats in small amounts). Bug Naked’s food measuring scoop, which is one-quarter cup, sufficed to estimate for the water measurement.

Cooking the cake was another unexpected surprise. The 2-minute, 30 seconds baking time was more than enough to create a powerful and not entirely pleasant odor.

“I’m not going to lie, that is disgusting,” McCue said, suppressing a gag as the cake was cooking. “That smell… Ugh.”

McCue frosted one of the three resulting cakes and decorated it with a ring of treats before adding the candle and presenting it to her favorite feline. Bug Naked, however, was less than impressed at the results. While she did sniff over the cake, she only ended up eating a few of the treats.

Of course, with Celebrity Beyond featuring 15 restaurants and 5 cafes, not to mention room service and additional bars and lounges, perhaps it would be best to get Bug Naked a special take-out treat for her next birthday!

Pets Onboard

Cruise fans who may want to celebrate with their own pets onboard should take note that Bug Naked is a very special exception to the cruise line’s no pets policy. Only service dogs are permitted onboard Celebrity Cruises’ ships, a policy that is similar to most cruise lines.

Guests who do plan to bring a service dog onboard need to notify the cruise line’s Access Department when booking and no later than 30 days before sailing to arrange for a “relief area” for the animal.

Guests should also review all of Celebrity Cruises’ guidelines and policies for service dogs prior to booking a cruise or setting sail.

All appropriate documentation, including vaccination records and any documentation required by ports of call, is the sole responsibility of the guest. The exact requirements for bringing a service dog onboard may also vary based on embarkation port and overall cruise destinations.

Carnival Cruise Line Alerts Guests to Traffic Problems

Carnival Cruise Line has emailed guests booked aboard the March 25, 2023 sailings of Carnival Vista and Carnival Dream that a significant road closure leading to Galveston may impact travel times to the cruise terminal.

Guests setting sail this weekend should adjust their travel driving or rideshare plans to ensure they reach the cruise terminal at an appropriate time.

Traffic Alert for Two Carnival Cruise Ships

Guests sailing aboard Carnival Vista or Carnival Dream this weekend should plan extra travel time to reach the Galveston cruise terminal, due to a local highway closure. Carnival Cruise Line has reached out to guests to notify them about the potential difficulty.

“Officials in Galveston have informed us that a planned road closure is taking place along I-45, southbound to Galveston,” the email read. “Please allow ample time to commute to the cruise terminal for prompt arrival within your pre-selected arrival appointment.”

Guests who have arranged transfers through Carnival Cruise Line may also have their travel plans impacted, though the cruise line will make adjustments to account for delays as necessary.

“For guests who have purchased Carnival’s transfer services, we are working closely with our transportation provider to offset any potential delays,” the email explained.

Guests who have made independent rideshare or shuttle arrangements should contact their transportation providers to adjust pick up times if needed, while guests who are driving to the port themselves should plan to leave earlier than anticipated to allow ample time for traffic delays.

Carnival Vista‘s Saturday, March 25 departure isa 7-night Western Caribbean cruise visiting Roatan, Honduras; Belize City, Belize; and Cozumel, Mexico. Carnival Dream‘s sailing is an 8-night Eastern Caribbean cruise to Key West and three ports of call in The Bahamas – Freeport, Half Moon Cay, and Nassau.

No changes to the ships’ departure times have been announced, nor should their itineraries be impacted by the highway closure.

About the Road Closure

Interstate 45 is a major traffic artery in Texas, connecting not only Houston to the Galveston area, but also continuing north to Dallas. The southbound closure will dramatically impact travel times from those metropolitan areas as well as major airports, potentially causing congestion and delays for many cruise travelers.

According to local Texas news reports, the road closure will begin at 9 p.m. Friday, March 24, and will continue through 5 a.m. Monday, March 27, and will also impact several ramps in the immediate vicinity.

The closure is due to striping work and overall highway renovation that will eventually increase the number of southbound lanes on 1-45. The most heavily impacted area will be between the NASA Bypass and FM 518, a stretch only 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) long, but traffic may be backed up significantly ahead of the closure.

The closed area is approximately 28 miles (45 km) from the Galveston cruise terminal.

Impacts on Other Galveston Cruises

In addition to the two Carnival ships, Royal Caribbean International’s Adventure of the Seas is also setting sail on Saturday and guests may be impacted by the traffic congestion. That cruise is a 5-night Western Caribbean itinerary to Costa Maya and Cozumel.

Sunday sailings may also have traffic difficulties. Princess Cruises’ Ruby Princess and Royal Caribbean’s Oasis-class Allure of the Seas are both departing from Galveston that day.

The closure should be finished by Monday morning when Radiance of the Seas and Carnival Breeze return from their latest sailings, but as guests do not debark until approximately 7-7:30 a.m. and the road should be reopened by 5 a.m., traffic problems that day should be minimal.

All cruise guests, from any homeport, should always stay in close contact with their cruise line with updated email, phone, and text contact information to be notified of last-minute delays, traffic alerts, and other information as they prepare to set sail.

Hand Washing Clothes on Cruise Ships – The Ultimate Guide

The last thing anyone wants to think about on a cruise is laundry. You may be lucky and pack enough outfits to last your entire cruise. However, more often than not, accidents happen – especially if you’re traveling with kids!

So what do you do when you’re on a cruise and need to wash a few articles of clothing to wear the next day? You could take advantage of your cruise ship’s laundry service, but that comes at a price. One alternative that you should consider is hand washing your clothes.

In this article, you’ll learn everything you need to know about hand washing clothes on cruise ships and find a step-by-step guide to ensure your clothes come home stain-free.

What You Need to Hand Wash Clothes on a Cruise

Let’s jump right into what you’ll need when hand-washing clothes on a cruise. Make sure that you have at least the following:

  • Detergent
  • A sink
  • Clothesline

The trickiest part about hand-washing clothes on a cruise is finding somewhere to do the hand-washing. In general, your two options are the sink and the shower.

The sink is preferable due to the depth, allowing you to soak your clothes and get them as clean as possible. Now let’s walk through the steps of hand washing your clothes on a cruise.

Step-by-Step Guide to Hand Washing Clothes on a Cruise

Want to ensure that you’re extra prepared for washing your clothes on your upcoming cruise? Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to hand wash your clothes.

Hand Washing Clothes on a Cruise Ship

1. Prepare Your Items

The first step to hand-washing clothes on a cruise is to know exactly what you’re washing.

Small items such as underwear, bathing suits, or a single shirt are easiest to wash as they fit the size of the sink. Larger items, such as a long dress, may be tricky as they may not entirely fit. Once you have your clothing, keep it on standby while you prepare the sink.

2. Fill the Sink and Add Detergent

The next step is to fill the sink with water and detergent.

First, plug the sink, then add the appropriate amount of detergent. You don’t want to add too much! Ensure it’s the right amount for the sink size and the clothes you’re washing. Fill the sink up, being careful not to overfill it.

3. Soak Your Clothing

Once your sink is full of detergent and water, it’s time to soak your clothing in the water. If you’re washing a lot of clothes, you may have to do this in batches to ensure not to overfill the sink and make a mess in your bathroom.

Let your clothes soak in the soapy water for at least a few minutes. If there are stains, let them soak a little longer.

4. Scrub Your Clothing

Once your clothes are saturated in the water, it’s time to scrub them clean!

Scrub each article of clothing together and pay special attention to areas with stains. You should scrub for at least a few minutes. If there are tough stains, you may have to scrub, let the clothing soak again, then scrub again.

5. Rinse

After scrubbing all of your clothing, it’s time to rinse. Start by draining the sink. From there, there are several ways that you can go about rinsing your clothes.

Rinsing in Sink

First, you can fill the sink with clean water to rinse your clothes. This is the go-to method for many people. You may have to change the water out a couple of times if you’re rinsing a lot of clothes.

Alternatively, you can also rinse the clothes in the shower, which is convenient if you are going to take a shower anyways. Either way, it’s important to make sure that you remove all of the detergent from your clothes.

6. Hang Dry

The final step in hand washing clothes on a cruise is to hang them to dry. This can be the trickiest part of the process. Cruise lines do not allow you to hang your wet clothes off the balcony for safety reasons, so your only option is to hang your clothes inside.

The bathroom is a great place to dry your clothes. You can also hang them in other places around your stateroom. Another option is to bring a clothesline with you on your trip to set up in your cabin and have a dedicated spot to dry your clothes.

Better yet, a few cruise lines, such as Carnival Cruise Line and Disney Cruise Line, have clotheslines in the shower to allow you to hang your wet clothes to dry. Once your clothes are dry, ask your housekeeper if you could borrow an iron to do any pressing if necessary.

FAQs

Can you bring detergent on a cruise ship?

You’re allowed to bring detergent on a cruise ship. It’s recommended, however, that you bring a limited amount – bring enough for you to do a couple of quick washes if necessary. Single-use laundry detergent is an ideal item to bring onto your cruise.

What are the benefits of hand-washing clothes on a cruise?

Hand washing your clothes is the cheapest option. If you bring your own detergent, this process is essentially free! Another benefit of hand-washing clothes on a cruise is that you know exactly where your clothes are. With any laundry service, you risk the chance of the cruise ship misplacing your clothes. While they should eventually find them, it’s inconvenient if you have an event coming up that night.

Wrap-Up: Hand Washing Clothes on a Cruise Is a Great Option

In summary, it’s always good to be prepared on a cruise, including having a plan to do laundry. While your cruise ship might have great laundry facilities and services, if you want to let someone else take care of your laundry, this option could be pricey.

Disney Cruise Line to Open Bookings for New Private Destination

Guests eager to visit Disney Cruise Line’s new private destination in The Bahamas, Lighthouse Point, have their chance to reserve the first sailings, as itineraries for the highly anticipated port have been announced and will soon be open for reservations. At the same time, the cruise line has also revealed all new destinations for the summer 2024 season.

Lighthouse Point Bookings Opening Soon

Disney Cruise Line recently announced that Lighthouse Point would open for the summer of 2024, and the family-oriented beach retreat is one of the most highly anticipated destination for future cruises.

Now, guests can prepare to book those future cruises.

“We are delighted to take families to new places during the summer 2024 season, including our newest island destination at Lighthouse Point in The Bahamas,” said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager, Disney Cruise Line.

The new island will be featured on 3-, 4-, and 5-night sailings, with both Disney Magic and Disney Fantasy sailing to Lighthouse Point.

Disney Magic will be sailing from Fort Lauderdale and regularly visiting Lighthouse Point, beginning with a special 3-night preview cruise departing June 6, 2024 for a sneak peak at the island. Because of the nature of the preview event, not all features on the island may be accessible for that inaugural visit.

Disney Fantasy will also offer a special sailing to visit Lighthouse Point, a 7-night cruise from Port Canaveral departing on June 8, 2024.

This “ultimate Disney Cruise Line island destination itinerary” will feature not one but two stops at Lighthouse Point, and will also visit Disney Cruise Line’s other private destination in The Bahamas, Castaway Cay. A visit to Nassau, the capital city of The Bahamas, is also on the itinerary.

A second Disney Fantasy cruise later in the summer will also visit Lighthouse Point. This longer voyage is a 10-night Southern Caribbean itinerary departing Port Canaveral on Thursday, July 25, and will include stops in Antigua, St. Lucia, Dominica, and Tortola as well as both Lighthouse Point and Castaway Cay.

All bookings that include Lighthouse Point will open to the public on March 30, 2023, and are sure to sell out quickly.

About Lighthouse Point

Located on the island of Eleuthera approximately 65 miles (105 kilometers) east of Nassau, the 700-acre Lighthouse Point is being thoughtfully designed to infuse Bahamian culture with Disney magic for a one-of-a-kind visitor experience with an emphasis on family vacations while preserving the destination’s natural beauty.

Key environmental features of Lighthouse Point will include a pier engineered to avoid the need for dredging, elevated walkways that preserve the natural landscape, and a solar array that will meet 90% or more of the destination’s power needs.

A tram will transport guests around the site, with pristine beaches to enjoy and activities such as an extensive water play area for younger cruisers, private cabanas to rent, a gaming pavilion, volleyball courts, and a tranquil adults-only area.

More New Destinations in 2024

In addition to Lighthouse Point, Disney Cruise Line has also announced brand new and returning ports of call for the 2024 season in Europe and Alaska.

Brand new to the cruise line are visits to Valencia, Spain; Haugesund, Norway; and Hamburg, Germany aboard Disney Dream. The ship will also return to three popular ports of call for the first time since 2014: Catania, Italy; Kusadasi, Turkey; and Valletta, Malta.

European sailings will range from 3-12 nights depending on departure port and specific itinerary, including options such as Mediterranean and Greek Island sailings, northern Europe cruises, and British Isles cruises.

“All of these Disney Cruise Line sailings provide the unique experiences that our guests have come to expect from Disney, from world-class dining and dazzling entertainment to character encounters and legendary guest service,” said Siskie.

Of special interest will be one unique 12-night Disney Dream sailing visiting the Norwegian fjords and Iceland, including an overnight stay in Reykjavik. That cruise departs Southampton on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

Also during the summer of 2024, Disney Wonder will be offering Alaskan cruises from Vancouver, with itineraries from 5-9 nights. Meanwhile, the new Disney Wish will continue to offer 3-4 night Bahamian vacations from Port Canaveral.
