Popular Show Ends on Norwegian Bliss, New Rotation Collection to Debut

Key Aspects:

  • The musical “Jersey Boys” is ending its run aboard Norwegian Bliss by the end of February 2026.
  • No production show has yet been announced to replace the popular performance.
  • Norwegian Cruise Line will be offering “a rotating collection of performers” onboard instead of the musical.

Guests on upcoming sailings of Norwegian Bliss may not be able to see one of Norwegian Cruise Line’s most popular production shows, “Jersey Boys,” as the show is ending its run on the Breakaway-plus Class ship.

The final showings of the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons will be next month, February 2026, with new entertainment to debut in March.

“‘Jersey Boys’ will be concluding its run in the Bliss Theater,” emails sent to booked guests confirmed in Cruise Hive’s NCL group. “While we know this change may come as a disappointment, we are refreshing our offerings with a rotating collection of performers chosen to surprise, delight, and keep your evenings just as memorable.”

The email hints that different specialty acts, such as comedians, jugglers, and magicians, will be onboard, though it does not appear that a full production show will be replacing “Jersey Boys.”

It is possible, however, that plans have simply not been confirmed for which show will be highlighted aboard Norwegian Bliss. It can be quite a challenge to schedule the proper performers and complete casts, as well as to arrange for stage sets, technicians, and other details to present a high-quality production.

The exact end date of the “Jersey Boys” performances has not been confirmed, though it appears the show will be ending before March 1, 2026.

The 168,000-gross-ton Norwegian Bliss is currently homeported from Los Angeles, offering 7-night Mexican Riviera itineraries visiting Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, and Mazatlan.

In April 2026, the ship will reposition to Seattle for the Alaska sailing season, offering 7-night round trip voyages to Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka, Icy Strait Point, and Victoria, with spectacular scenic cruising along the way.

It is possible that a new production show will be in place by the time Norwegian Bliss begins her Alaska season, which will last through early October, though such plans have not yet been confirmed.

Some guests booked on Norwegian Bliss are reporting that the show “Choir of Man,” with its English pub vibe, will be replacing “Jersey Boys,” but the cruise line has not made this statement.

Are Entertainment Options Shifting?

Speculation is high about how entertainment options onboard Norwegian Cruise Line ships are changing.

Rather than longer, more elaborate production shows, the current trend appears to be toward shorter, more specialty entertainment. This can permit more showtimes in a single evening, giving guests more flexibility with the schedule and more opportunities to enjoy different performances.

Game show entertainment, including “The Price Is Right,” “Family Feud,” and “Deal or No Deal” are popular options on many different ships and cruise lines. These interactive shows with the opportunity to win prizes appeal to many guests with their high energy and nostalgic references.

Entertainment does continually change aboard cruise ships. Not too many years ago, talented soloists were a popular show option, but they are rarely found today.

Shorter, more unique options such as hypnotists, whip crackers, break dancers, beat boxers, and even contortionists can provide new options for shows that keep guests coming back for multiple performances.

Developing in-house production shows rather than licensing familiar Broadway productions is another option some cruise lines are choosing.

The musical “Jersey Boys” first debuted in 2004 and has been performed on Broadway more than 4,000 times. Off-Broadway performances have been popular in different locations, including London’s West End and both US and UK tours as well as international tours.

Norwegian Cruise Ship Rushes Back to New York Early Ahead of Winter Storm

Key Aspects:

  • Norwegian Breakaway is returning to New York early to get ahead of a bomb cyclone heading for the US East Coast.
  • The ship will arrive in New York on February 1 instead of February 3, and the extra time will be treated like an overnight port call.
  • Because of the change in plans, the ship will skip its call to St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, on January 30.

Less than one week after Winter Storm Fern dropped a barrage of ice and snow on much of the US, another powerful storm is looming upon the US East Coast.

In light of the storm, Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Breakaway will be skipping its planned port call to St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, on January 30, 2026, and rushing back to New York early to avoid the worst of the weather.

“A large winter weather system moving through the eastern United States and the North Atlantic is affecting our ability to return to New York City on the original schedule, and it’s making it challenging to maintain the speed needed for our planned turnaround,” the letter reads, in part.

St. Thomas was meant to be the final port call on an 11-night sailing to the Caribbean and the Dominican Republic, which embarked on January 23, 2026, at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal.

It’s also worth acknowledging that Carnival Cruise Line made a similar decision for Carnival Sunshine, which will be returning to Norfolk early from her 8-night Eastern Caribbean due to the storm.

An Early Arrival in New York

Instead of sailing into New York on the morning of February 3, 2026, for disembarkation, the namesake vessel of the Breakaway-class ships will return to Manhattan on February 1, 2026, at 11 p.m. EST.

Cruise tracking data shows that the 3,903-guest ship is already on her way back to her homeport, sailing through moderate swells of 1.8 meters (around 6 feet).

During the extra day in New York, guests will be able to enjoy all the amenities that the ship has onboard. The only offering that should be closed is the casino, which is not allowed to be used while in port.

They will also have the option to explore New York City, as they would during a typical port call, and may be permitted to debark early if they are not happy with the change of plans.

“Am I the only one who’d rather have another day at sea? I don’t want to pay taxes on my drinks or have the casino shut down if there’s nothing else to do. I get that you’re in NYC and can enjoy that but if I wanted that then I’d take a trip to NYC,” one guest reacted.

“It’s more like 30 hours sitting in port…..I mean. I live here, I totally get it. But I’d be mad for no casino,” another cruiser said.

It’s not clear if NCL is providing compensation for the change of plans, and if prorated refunds might be provided to those who do choose to end their sailings early.

How Bad is the Storm?

This new storm, which has been classified as a bomb cyclone, could potentially bring blizzard conditions from the coastal areas in North Carolina to parts of New Jersey and New York.

Forecasters have even predicted that sunny Florida, which is known for being warm all year, could experience some snow flurries. The storm is expected to be at its worst from Friday, January 30, through Sunday, February 1.

In addition to snow, the storm will bring strong winds along the Mid-Atlantic Coast and extremely high tides, which can create navigational challenges for cruise ships.

“The rapidly deepening storm system will produce powerful onshore winds along the Mid-Atlantic Coast from the North Carolina Outer Banks northward,” The National Weather Service (NWS) said in an update on X.

“Wind gusts near-hurricane force will coincide with astronomical high tides to produce moderate to locally significant coastal flooding,” The NWS continued.

New York itself is anticipating freezing temperatures with wind chills as low as  minus 11 degrees Fahrenheit and is under a cold weather advisory. Around two inches of snow and wind gusts of up to 45 miles per hour are possible for Sunday, February 1.

The worst should be over by the time Norwegian Breakaway’s subsequent cruise embarks on February 3, 2026, which is another 11-night sailing to the Caribbean and the Dominican Republic.

Carnival Cruise Ship Races Home Early to Beat New Winter Storm

Key Aspects:

  • Carnival Sunshine is returning to Norfolk one day early to beat the next incoming winter storm.
  • Guests will not be required to debark early, but can do so if they choose to head home right away.
  • Embarkation for the next sailing on February 1 is not impacted, but further updates may be necessary.

With the next line of rough winter weather aiming for the east coast of the US this weekend, Carnival Cruise Line is opting to speed up Carnival Sunshine‘s return to Norfolk, Virginia to arrive ahead of any potential closures or difficulties.

To make an earlier arrival back to her homeport, the ship has skipped the planned visit to Grand Turk that was scheduled for Thursday, January 29 and is instead heading straight back to Virginia.

While guests will be disappointed at missing the port of call, the decision to reach Norfolk ahead of the storm will help travelers be able to head home more easily instead of being delayed to wait out the bad weather in Virginia or even remain at sea for an extra day, as Carnival Pride had to do last weekend.

Carnival Sunshine is currently on an 8-night Eastern Caribbean sailing that departed on Saturday, January 24, 2026. That departure was also at risk from winter weather, but ultimately was able to set sail as planned.

The ship has visited Celebration Key and Princess Cays, and satellite tracking confirms she is en route back to Virginia with an estimated arrival at 9 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, well ahead of her original return at roughly 8 a.m. on Sunday.

Do Guests Have to Debark?

Though Carnival Sunshine will be home in Virginia a day early, guests onboard are not required to debark early if they prefer not to do so. They do have that option, however, if they want to get started heading back home before the storm.

“If people don’t want to go home on Sunday, they can stay onboard the ship on Saturday overnight and then, as planned, go home on Sunday,” John Heald, Carnival’s brand ambassador, confirmed. “We’re keeping the ship open with all the hotel facilities with the exception of the casino and the gift shops.”

Whenever a ship is docked, local regulations require that the onboard casino and retail operations be closed, so this is not surprising. Other onboard operations, including activities, dining, and entertainment, will be available as planned.

Heald also noted that the value Wi-Fi plan is being opened for all guests onboard so they can make travel changes or communicate with friends and family members as needed.

Once the ship is docked, US Customs and Border Protection does require that all passengers debark as per immigration and customs policies. After brief processing, guests remaining onboard until Sunday morning will return to the ship. Guests will receive further details of this process before the ship reaches Virginia.

Next Cruise Embarkation Not Yet Impacted

Carnival Cruise Line has also reached out to guests booked on the next sailing, set to depart on Sunday, February 1, 2026, to alert them to the adjustment and what it means for their embarkation plans.

“Although the ship will be returning early, your embarkation remains as scheduled for Sunday, February 1,” the email notification confirmed. “Currently, there are no operational modifications for embarkation, but we will continue to monitor the weather and keep you updated if it becomes necessary to adjust our plans.”

Guests are encouraged to sign up for text alerts to receive any updates as soon as changes are confirmed.

At this time, there are no changes for the 6-night Bahamas sailing, which is scheduled to visit Celebration Key, Nassau, and Bimini before returning to Norfolk on Saturday, February 7.

The cruise line does acknowledge that itinerary changes may be necessary depending on how the storm develops and if it impacts Carnival Sunshine‘s departure or sailing route. Those changes would be shared with guests onboard as soon as possible.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Norfolk from 1 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, through 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 1.

Heavy snow with total accumulations from 8-15 inches is possible, and wind gusts as high as 50-60 miles per hour may occur along the coast.

“Whiteout conditions are possible and may make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening,” the advisory reads. “Travel could be very difficult to impossible.”

Cruise Hive hopes everyone currently aboard Carnival Sunshine as well as those guests setting sail this weekend has safe travels to and from the cruise port as well as a great escape from the cold to enjoy!

Why a Mexican Judge Just Hit Pause on Royal Caribbean’s New Mega Destination

Key Aspects:

  • A local judge has suspended work on Royal Caribbean’s Perfect Day Mexico development in Costa Maya.
  • The project is not cancelled but further environmental assessments may be necessary before work can continue.
  • Perfect Day Mexico is slated to open on 2027 with a massive water park, 10 pools, dining, and much more.

A Mexican judged has ordered a temporary suspension of work on Royal Caribbean’s proposed Perfect Day Mexico development in Costa Maya, pending further environmental assessments.

According to La Jornada, the suspension comes from a Quintana Roo district court following an injunction request from the organization Right to a Healthy Environment (DMAS).

The environmental group is not inherently against the project, which is expected to bring substantial economic benefits to the region, but argues that there may be land-use irregularities that need to be resolved before the development moves forward.

“We are in favor of respecting the law, urban planning and the community’s right to a healthy environment,” the group clarified.

Specifically, protection of the mangrove ecosystem is of concern as it is critical for water filtration and erosion protection.

Also of concern is how the project may strain the already burdened sanitation infrastructure in the region, which would directly impact the surrounding communities.

In the next few days, a hearing will determine whether the suspension of work must remain in effect while the environmental studies are conducted and any issues are resolved.

To be clear, this injunction does not cancel the project completely, but is simply a means to ensure proper environmental considerations are made before potentially irreversible damage could be done.

Royal Caribbean has noted that there are no plans to develop the specific mangrove conservation area, and that restoration efforts would improve the mangrove habitat even further.

Not the First Challenge

This latest injunction is not the first challenge to the Perfect Day Mexico project. In August 2025, a Change.org petition was started to protect the small fishing village of Mahahual. That petition also cites environmental concerns, including mangrove protection, pollution, and the local water supply.

View of Perfect Day Mexico

To date, the petition has garnered more than 357,000 signatures.

Like the current injunction, however, the petition is not entirely against the project, but simply wants to make sure local cultures and resources are protected and that residents have significant input on developments in their area.

Plans for Perfect Day Mexico

While Royal Caribbean officially owns the land for the development, the cruise line must abide by Mexican laws to develop the property into a new destination.

The plans for Perfect Day Mexico include a massive waterpark able to welcome up to 20,000 guests daily, meaning multiple ships could visit simultaneously.

“Perfect Day Mexico is bigger and bolder than anything we have done to date,” said Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean. “This destination will be the ultimate vacation for families, and we cannot wait to welcome adventurers from around the world to Mexico for an experience only Royal Caribbean can provide.”

More than 30 waterslides will be featured at the park, including the tallest waterslides found anywhere in North and South America. Guests interested in a more relaxing aquatic experience can enjoy the world’s longest lazy river, with an optional “crazy” side for a bit of splashtastic fun.

Three swim-up bars, a total of 10 pools, the Splashaway Bay water play complex for youngsters, a variety of cabana options, an adults-only hideaway, multiple dining venues, and much more are all planned for the destination across more than 200 acres.

In total, Perfect Day Mexico is expected to be a more than $600 million investment with projected completion in late 2027. Should the current injunction be extended, however, it is possible that date may change as plans are adapted as necessary.

Royal Caribbean Officially Orders New Discovery Class Cruise Ships

Key Aspects:

  • Royal Caribbean has signed agreements with Chantiers de l’Atlantique for the new Discovery Class of ships.
  • No details have been yet been confirmed about the size or design of the new class.
  • The first Discovery Class ship will set sail in 2029 and the second in 2032, with four more optioned for the future.

The long-standing rumor whispered through social media and onboard some of the world’s largest cruise ships is now confirmed: Royal Caribbean has officially announced the new Discovery Class of ships in agreement with the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint Nazaire, France.

Two orders have now been made with the first of the new class to debut in 2029, followed by her sister ship with delivery in 2032. The orders are subject to standard conditions, including financing arrangements.

“The Discovery Class represents our continued commitment to shaping the future of vacations,” said Jason Liberty, Chairman and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group. “These ships will be a showcase of what’s possible when design meets purpose, ultimately bringing the world closer to our guests.”

The agreements include options for four additional ships, but no expected dates are yet announced for those future vessels because they are not officially ordered.

No further details have been announced about the class, but rumors abound. With Royal Caribbean having focused on bigger-is-better ships since the Oasis Class debuted in 2009, the most prevalent expectation is that the Discovery Class will be smaller both in gross tonnage and guest capacity.

This idea is supported by the language being used to describe the new class, including the name itself: allowing guests to better “discover” the world, ports of call, and amazing cruise memories.

“The Discovery Class introduces a bold new concept that puts our guests at the center of it all,” said Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean.

“It will deliver extraordinary, one-of-a-kind experiences — from cutting edge design to immersive moments — every detail crafted to surprise and delight guests in ways they’ve never imagined, all while visiting truly breathtaking destinations around the world.”

The shipyard itself confirms just how different the new ships will be from vessels currently in the fleet.

“Royal Caribbean Group has been keenly focused on disrupting the vacation industry with their innovative and bold vacation offerings,” said Laurent Castaing, Chief Executive Officer, Chantiers de l’Atlantique.

“Partnering with Jason and Michael to bring the Discovery Class to life is an opportunity to showcase the future of shipbuilding. Together, we are shaping a new generation of ocean vacations that will lead the industry toward a more innovative future.”

Discovering More Itinerary Options

It is likely that if the new class is a smaller, more intimate ship, Royal Caribbean may introduce more port-forward itinerary options to unique destinations or entirely new sailing regions.

The great success of the 274-night World Cruise in 2023-2024 aboard Serenade of the Seas showcased just how eager cruisers are for more unique opportunities and unusual destinations. For context, the 90,090-gross-ton Serenade of the Seas is one of the smaller ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet and first debuted in 2003.

Loyal-to-Royal guests are reacting eagerly to the announcement, hopeful for new ports to explore.

“Great news, hopefully starting a trend of returning to smaller ships that can get into smaller and more interesting ports,” one guest commented.

“This is very exciting news. Cant wait to see what this means for cruising in Asia, Australia and the Pacific,” another hoped.

Long History With Chantiers de l’Atlantique

What is not a surprise about the new class announcement is the partnership with Chantiers de l’Atlantique to design and build the new vessels.

In 1985, Chantiers de l’Atlantique built Sovereign of the Seas, and in the past 40 years, the shipyard has added 21 ships to the Royal Caribbean Group, including Harmony of the Seas, Symphony of the Seas, Wonder of the Seas, and Utopia of the Seas as well as Celebrity Xcel and Celebrity Ascent.

“Through our partnership with Chantiers de l’Atlantique, we are leveraging France’s world‑class shipbuilding ecosystem and new technology to, once again, reimagine the industry for decades to come,” said Liberty.

Reimaging will be key, as Royal Caribbean is well known for adding new features and design elements to make its vessels truly one of a kind.

“These ships are going to change everything!” Bayley confirmed.

In addition to their vessels with Royal Caribbean Group, Chantiers de l’Atlantique has also constructed unique and innovative ships for other cruise lines, including MSC Cruises’ MSC World America and Cunard Line’s Queen Mary 2.

New details about the exciting new class are sure to be announced in the months to come; stay tuned to Cruise Hive for all the updates!

Cruise Line Apologizes After Autistic Guest Was Removed From Cruise in Mexico

Key Aspects:

  • A mother is speaking out after her adult son with autism was kicked off a Celebrity Cruise ship due to a misunderstanding.
  • He was booted from the ship on Christmas Eve in Cozumel, Mexico.
  • Royal Caribbean Group apologized to the family and promised additional training for crew members.

A New Jersey mother is speaking out after her autistic son was kicked off a cruise ship during a Christmas cruise.

Carolyn Piro’s family was enjoying a 7-night Caribbean sailing onboard a Celebrity Cruise ship to celebrate the holidays and Piro’s 60th birthday. For context, Celebrity Cruises is a sister brand to Royal Caribbean.

It’s unclear which specific ship the family was onboard, but itinerary details suggest that Celebrity Xcel is a likely candidate for the Florida-based sailing.

Piro was traveling with her eldest son, Sean Curran, who is 31-years-old with Autism. The mother also had her three other sons onboard to celebrate, one of whom has mosaic Down syndrome and another has fragile X syndrome.

All was well until four days into the cruise when Curran was kicked off the ship in Cozumel, Mexico, on Christmas Eve after his attempts to be nice to another passenger went very wrong.

“With all of the information about autism, there was no compassion. They treated him as a fully functioning adult,” Piro said to The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Curran’s mother and another sibling disembarked with him to help Curran make his way back to Florida, where they reunited with the rest of the family when the sailing disembarked.

What Went Wrong?

Autism is a spectrum and functionality and understanding varies from person to person. It’s unclear how the disorder specifically affects Curran.

According to Piro, her son was asked by an unidentified teenage girl to buy her a Long Island iced tea. Allegedly, Curran did not know that this drink contained alcohol and happily complied with her request.

Curran was alone at the time the girl approached him because he had been on three other sailings and his family felt that he was capable of roaming independently.

He continued to socialize with the minor in one of the ship’s hot tubs, where the girl allegedly touched his chest and stomach and used inappropriate profane language. He also playfully carried the girl.

Confronted By Security

The girl’s parents found the duo in the hot tub and began yelling at Curran, who was quickly escorted to a security office. Piro joined him there to advocate for her son.

“I have autism and I was just trying to be nice,” Curran wrote in a statement that was given to the ship’s security team.

Ultimately, security leadership decided that Curran would have 90 minutes to pack his bags and debark from the cruise ship early.

The family was initially only given an incident report and told that the FBI and Homeland Security would be notified of what had occurred. No charges were ever filed.

Piro did discipline Curran once they returned home. She continues to insist that his behaviors were wrong and needed to be corrected, but did not come from a place of malicious intent.

A Not-So Autism Friendly Cruise Experience

Part of the reason the family chose Celebrity Cruises is that the brand is known for being accessible for guests with autism, which is also what makes this experience extra disappointing for them.

“We’ve proudly achieved the Autism Friendly Cruise Line status, having completed certification with Autism on the Seas,” Celebrity Cruises’ website states.

“This is awarded to cruise lines that ensure their products and services are accessible for participation by the autism and developmental disability community.”

Piro says the family also did their best to plan ahead for accommodating the different needs in their travel party, such as requesting special seating in the dining room to keep the family separated from loud noises and larger groups.

Royal Caribbean Apologizes

After Piro spoke out about this unfortunate incident, Royal Caribbean apologized and said that its crew members would be better trained on how to deal with guests who have mental disabilities.

While Royal Caribbean has a zero-tolerance policy for behaviors that could potentially endanger other guests or crew members, this was a unique situation because Curran did not fully understand what he was doing.

The company “concluded we could have been more sensitive to [the family’s] needs during the debarkation process,” a Royal Caribbean spokesperson told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The spokesperson also said that crew members would receive additional training to “ensure this experience doesn’t happen again.”

Piro has also asked to be reimbursed for the $20,000 she spent on the cruise and related expenses, but it’s unclear if Royal Caribbean will grant this request at this time.

Carnival Venezia Guests Notified of Early Itinerary Shift for Southern Caribbean Cruise

Key Aspects:

  • Carnival Venezia is adjusting two ports on her February 21, 2027 sailing.
  • Both Antigua and St. Kitts are being shifted in days and times, but the ports are not cancelled.
  • No other ports on the 14-night Southern Caribbean cruise are affected at this time.

Carnival Cruise Line has alerted guests booked on Carnival Venezia‘s February 21, 2027 sailing that they have a slight itinerary change to be aware of, though no ports are being cancelled.

The 14-night cruise is a Southern Caribbean voyage from Port Canaveral, with visits to eight amazing ports of call. Two of those ports are shifting their visit dates and times, but Carnival Venezia will still be at the outstanding destinations.

“We have made a slight adjustment to your itinerary,” the email notification confirmed. “The days visiting Antigua and St. Kitts have changed with adjusted port times.”

Originally, Carnival Venezia was to have enjoyed the visit to Antigua on Wednesday, February 24, 2027, while the visit to St. Kitts was to have a week later been near the end of the voyage on Wednesday, March 3. Both visits were scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The updated itinerary dates and times will be published on Carnival Cruise Line’s website as soon as the details are finalized. Given that the sailing is more than a year away, there should be no difficulty for guests to rearrange any plans they might have for either port visit day.

Other ports on the immersive Carnival Journeys itinerary include St. Thomas, Dominica, Grenada, Barbados, St. Maarten, and San Juan.

Carnival Journeys cruises are sailings more than 10 nights. In addition to visiting more unique destinations, these cruises also include more themed programming and activities onboard, including popular “throwback” events to long-since-gone fan favorites and other fun.

Shore Tours to Be Adjusted

Early cruise planners who have already booked pre-paid shore excursions through Carnival don’t need to worry, as the cruise line will automatically adjust those tours for the new port days and times.

Exactly when that adjustment will happen isn’t clear, but the notification assures guests that it will be taken care of “prior to sailing.”

If, however, guests have arranged for independent tours or transportation with local operators, they will want to reach out to those companies to update their plans once the new visit information is confirmed. Again, since this change is made so far in advance of the ship’s departure date, such updates should not be difficult.

As a matter of interest, a similar 14-night itinerary in February 2026 has no changes at this time, nor are any other longer itineraries confirmed to be adjusted.

Why the Change for Carnival Venezia?

Carnival Cruise Line does not offer details about exactly why the two ports of call have been adjusted. Such itinerary tweaks are not uncommon, however, especially well ahead of a sailing when there is plenty of time for plans to change without much difficulty.

It is possible that overall berth availability might be a concern as more ships get scheduled for future visits, or else port maintenance plans might now impact a previously confirmed visit.

For example, if pier maintenance or construction is necessary or if harbor dredging is planned, that would most definitely have an impact on how and when ships could visit. Those plans are up to the port, not the cruise line, and may not be known when a cruise line initially plans and confirms future itineraries.

Carnival Venezia homeports from Port Canaveral in the winter, offering 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean voyages, as well as the occasional longer Southern Caribbean sailing.

The 135,225-gross-ton, Vista-class ship can welcome 4,208 guests at double occupancy or up to 5,260 travelers when fully booked. Also onboard are roughly 1,200 international crew members eager to ensure everyone has an amazing cruise getaway, no matter what the itinerary may be.

Bahamas Reveals MSC’s Bold Plan for a New $450 Million Cruise Development

Key Aspects:

  • MSC Cruises appears poised to develop a new cruise terminal in Freeport, Bahamas.
  • The Bahamas’ prime minister puts the investment at $450 million.
  • The new terminal is to be built on an existing man-made island in Freeport Harbor.

Envisioning a lucrative future on Grand Bahama Island, MSC Cruises is making a major investment in Freeport Harbor, where it plans to build a new cruise facility and beach club.

In a media update about development across the island, Bahamas Prime Minister Philip Davis revealed some details about the cruise line’s plans for Grand Bahama’s cruise-tourism industry.

Those plans, according to the January 27, 2026, statement, include an estimated investment by MSC Cruises of $450 million. A new cruise terminal proposed for the Billy Cay property, a man-made island in the middle of Freeport Harbor, will be allocated $400 million, while the remaining $50 million will go toward a beach club and the renovation of the harbor’s retail village area.

The renovation will include cruise ship berths, food and entertainment areas, and other visitor-focused services such as a transportation logistics center, likely for shore excursions and independent island tours.

The project is designed as a multi-user facility, supporting operational flexibility and positioning Grand Bahama to capture greater cruise activity, higher passenger volumes, and wider economic spillover into transportation, hospitality, culture, and small business, said Philip Davis, prime minister of the Bahamas.

The broader role MSC continues to play in strengthening Grand Bahama as a serious maritime and logistics hub,Davis added.

He noted, too, that MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company), the cruise brand’s owner, has already invested in upgrades to the Freeport Container Port. MSC is the world’s largest container shipping operator.

The prime minister indicated that the Bahamas and MSC Cruises had signed an agreement, but MSC Cruises has not commented on plans for the cruise terminal development.

MSC Cruises Also Investing in Marine Reserve Upgrades

MSC Cruises is hyper-focused on broadening its presence in the Bahamas, a goal welcomed by government officials looking to expand the country’s cruise industry.

Their efforts are working. In addition to its plans for the Billy Cay property, MSC Cruises announced on January 28, 2026 it will finance enhancements to MSC Ocean Cay Marine Reserve, its private island destination in Bimini, Bahamas.

Multiple new dining venues, an expanded cruise ship pier, a family beach area, and an adult-only retreat are all part of the plans to upgrade the reserve. The changes are due to be completed by late 2027.

MSC Cruises offers voyages to Grand Bahama Island, including aboard the 4,488-guest MSC Meraviglia in November 2026. A combination 4- and 10-night cruise sails roundtrip from Miami on November 11, 2026.

The 4-night cruise calls at the line’s marine reserve and at Freeport before returning to PortMiami. Guests booked on the 10-night sailing remain onboard to enjoy additional port calls at Turks & Caicos, Nassau, Bahamas, and another visit to the reserve.

MSC Cruises is not alone in betting big on the Bahamas, as virtually all of the major brands have a presence there. Carnival Cruise Line in summer 2026 opened its $600 million Celebration Key, a private destination on Grand Bahama Island.

Royal Caribbean features its Perfect Day at CocoCay on a private island in the Bahamas, along with Norwegian Cruise Line’s Great Stirrup Cay and Disney Cruise Line’s Castaway Cay, among several others.

MSC Cruises Announces Big Enhancements and Pier Extension at Ocean Cay

Key Aspects:

  • MSC Cruises is adding new family-friendly and adults-only features to Ocean Cay.
  • The current pier is being extended to accommodate two ships at once.
  • A second private island is also in development nearby, but few details are known at this time.

MSC Cruises’ private island destination in the Bahamas, MSC Ocean Cay Marine Reserve, is a favorite port visit for guests, and it’s about to get even more amazing with new upgrades and the ability to welcome more ships by late 2027.

The cruise line announced on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 that new upgrades are now underway, with “new facilities to enhance the guest experience.” But what experiences are being enhanced?

All of them! First, four new dining venues will be added around the island. While menus have not been released, the new offerings will include buffets, food market options, and a signature specialty restaurant. This will undoubtedly offer more dining options for guests will all types of dietary needs and preferences, while ensuring lines remain short and manageable.

The popular Seakers Cove Family Beach area will also be thoroughly upgraded with exciting new features. A kid’s playground and splash pad with fountains will be added for the youngest cruisers, while more adventurous guests can tackle the ropes course with slides, towers, and water elements sure to test balance and daring.

New Marine Conservation Experience Coming

Of special note is MSC Cruises’ ongoing commitment to conservation at Ocean Cay. From its first opening in December 2019, the island has had a focus on conservation and restoration. In fact, the island was formerly an industrial site for sand excavation that the cruise line restored to its natural beauty with a diverse and flourishing marine ecosystem.

Coming with the new enhancements will be a brand new “Shifting Perspective” marine conservation experience. This interactive encounter invites guests to explore different conservation approaches with immersive, hands-on activities.

From coral restoration to exploration of different oceanic ecosystems, the experience focuses on scientific discover, conservation, and preservation, helping guests connect to the water and marine life that makes MSC Ocean Cay Marine Reserve so special and unique.

Pier Extension to Accommodate Two Ships

With so many great things to come by the time the enhancements are finished in late 2027, a high priority is expanding the pier capacity to welcome more than one ship at a time.

Construction work to extend the pier is already underway and due for completion next year. This will ensure that multiple vessels can visit the popular private island, a critical need as MSC Cruises continues to expand its North American presence following the opening of its Miami headquarters just days ago.

With even more MSC ships coming to North America when MSC World Atlantic debuts from Port Canaveral in November 2027, the extended pier will be essential for more guests to enjoy the destination.

A New Island Coming?

As a special note, MSC Cruises has confirmed the development of a second private island destination as well.

“This as-yet-unnamed island, known internally as Little Cay, will stay true to the ethos of Ocean Cay, offering an experience that connects guests to nature, pristine beaches, and the beauty of the ocean plus luxury facilities and water features,” the cruise line said.

The new destination is “adjacent” to Ocean Cay but is a separate piece of property. No further details have been revealed, including any possible features, whether or not it will be an entirely separate destination or if guests can visit while docked at Ocean Cay, or when it might debut.
