Cruise Guests Injured While Debarking Carnival Ship in Galveston

Four guests from Carnival Dream were injured by a vehicle that crashed through a gate at Port of Galveston on Saturday, December 2, 2023 during debarkation. All the guests were members of the same family, but were expected to travel home on Sunday following medical care.

Car Crashes Gate at Port of Galveston

While guests were debarking Carnival Dream following a 6-night Western Caribbean sailing that visited Costa Maya, Roatan, and Cozumel, a car accidentally crashed through a metal fence and struck a family of six.

Four of the family members were struck by the vehicle and transported to the hospital, with two requiring overnight observation. Few details are available about how the accident occurred.

“The Port of Galveston Police Department is investigating an auto-pedestrian accident involving a private vehicle Saturday morning at Cruise Terminal 28. Four pedestrians were struck and transported to the hospital,” a release from Port of Galveston read.

Carnival Cruise Line also confirmed the accident and how the affected guests are being supported.

“There was an auto accident at the Galveston Cruise Terminal today, when a driver ran through a gate, apparently accelerating when meaning to reverse. Six members of the same family that had just debarked from Carnival Dream were impacted,” Carnival explained in a statement provided to 2 News in Houston.

“Two were admitted to UTMB Hospital for observation, but all are expected to travel home on Sunday. Carnival’s Care Team is supporting the family, including making hotel arrangements.”

It is unknown why the driver of the vehicle failed to reverse and instead drove forward through the barrier, but the incident is sure to be thoroughly investigated.

The identities of those injured have not been disclosed, nor have the nature of their injuries, to protect their privacy and the privacy of their family members and friends.

The 130,000-gross-ton Carnival Dream was not affected by the incident and departed on time for her next sailing, an 8-night Eastern Caribbean itinerary visiting Key West as well as three ports in the Bahamas – Freeport, Half Moon Cay, and Nassau – before returning to Galveston on Sunday, December 10.

The ship can welcome 3,646 guests at double occupancy, or as many as 4,631 passengers when fully booked with all berths filled.

Terminal Traffic Confusion

The time when one cruise is debarking and another cruise preparing for embarkation is the craziest and most hectic at any cruise terminal. Traffic is flowing both in and out of the terminal area, including not only private drivers but also ride share vehicles, hotel and airport shuttles, taxis, carpools, and more.

Furthermore, pedestrian traffic with both debarking and embarking guests moving in and out of the terminal, heading for parking lots or garages, hailing vehicles, collecting luggage, and more can create a very confusing and potentially dangerous situation.

This can be exacerbated if there is any ongoing road construction or road closures, depending on how traffic may need to be temporarily rerouted, especially on busy cruise days.

On Saturday, two cruise ships were docked in Galveston. In addition to Carnival Dream, Royal Caribbean International’s Voyager of the Seas was also in port to welcome new guests.

There is no indication at this time that the incident in Galveston was anything but an unfortunate accident, though the situation will certainly be reviewed to see if there were any unusual circumstances that could have contributed to the crash.

The damaged fence will certainly be repaired, and additional signage or barriers may be installed if they are found to be necessary.

Cruise Hive’s thoughts are with the injured guests, as well as other travelers upset at the incident and crew members and port employees affected by the accident.

Broken Carnival Cruise Ship Finally Arrives for Repairs

Carnival Panorama has successfully made her way up the Columbia River to Portland, Oregon, where she will now undergo dry dock to fix her engine issue before she can return to service.

Along the way, the ship – without her funnel – passed beneath two low bridges that she would not have been able to safely clear had her funnel not been removed for the trip.

Carnival Panorama Reaches Dry Dock

After a very careful trip up the Columbia River and into the Willamette River, Carnival Panorama has reached the shipyard in Portland, Oregon where she will undergo repairs to her engines that will permit her to resume sailing at her maximum speeds.

To reach the dry dock facility, the ship’s iconic “whale tail” funnel had to be removed, which was done in Victoria, British Columbia on Thursday, November 30, 2023. The Victoria shipyard had the necessary equipment to remove the funnel, and will reattach it after the engine repairs are complete.

To be clear, the ship’s funnel is not damaged in any way, but it was too tall to safely clear low bridges over the Columbia River between the Pacific Ocean and the shipyard. The exact height of the ship – with the funnel attached – is not precise, as a cruise ship’s height above the waterline will vary based on how heavily loaded the vessel may be at any given time.

Furthermore, local tides and water levels based on recent rains, snow melt, runoff, drought, recent dredging, and other factors can all impact how “tall” a ship may be compared to bridges or other structures.

The trip up the river stretched roughly 105 miles (169 kilometers), nearly all of it on the Columbia River until the ship reached Portland and moved into the Willamette River, where the shipyard is located.

Carnival Panorama reached the shipyard just after 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, and the repairs to her engines will begin as soon as possible.

About the Bridges

The two low bridges Carnival Panorama had to clear on the Columbia River are the Astoria-Megler Bridge over the lower portion of the river in Astoria, and the Lewis and Clark Bridge between Longview, Washington and Rainier, Oregon.

Both bridges were built long before tall cruise ships were in service – the Astoria-Megler Bridge opened in 1966, while the Lewis and Clark Bridge opened in 1930. You can watch some footage of the ship going under the bridge below:

Both bridges have relatively low clearances at just 196 feet (60 meters) at high tide for the Astoria-Megler Bridge, and 210 feet (64 m) for the Lewis and Clark Bridge.

To make it safely under those bridges, Carnival Panorama‘s funnel as well as her forward antenna needed to be removed to lower the ship’s total height.

“I should say that the Whale Tail was actually designed to be removed,” explained John Heald, Carnival Cruise Line Brand Ambassador.

After the engine repairs are complete, Carnival Panorama will make her way back down the Columbia River, passing under the bridges again, and will return to Victoria to have her funnel reinstalled.

At that time, the ship will set sail full speed ahead for Long Beach, California to resume service, ready to welcome guests for her December 23, 2023 departure – a holiday cruise that will be a very welcome gift for guests who have been nervous about whether the ship would be able to get underway again for that very special sailing.

Heald has assured guests that the ship will be ready for that cruise, but booked guests may still want to stay in close contact with Carnival Cruise Line or their travel agents to be alerted to any further updates or announcements that may impact their cruise departure.

Princess Cruises Launching New App for Passengers

Princess Cruises is taking significant steps to enhance its onboard guest experience with the launch of a new app for passengers. Set to be released in the coming days, the app promises to be a significant upgrade over the current MedallionClass app.

The introduction of the new app coincides with the introduction of Starlink internet across the Princess Cruises fleet of cruise ships. The combination of Starlink and the new app will likely enable Princess Cruises to make true their promises of being one of the most technologically advanced cruise lines worldwide.

Introducing the Upgraded Princess Cruises App

Princess Cruises has sent out information to stakeholders and travel advisors that the cruise line will be introducing a new app in early December called the Princess Cruises app, which is replacing the older MedallionClass app.

While a tentative date had been set for December 1, 2023, it seems there has been a slight delay in the introduction of the app, which is now expected to launch in the coming days via Google Play and the App Store.

The transformation of the MedallionClass app into the new Princess Cruises app is a strategic move to enrich guest interaction and convenience. Scheduled for release in early December, Princess Cruises is calling the app a significant enhancement in functionality and usability.

Key features include streamlined navigation, more intuitive service access, and a refreshed user interface designed for ease of use. Renamed services like “Dine My Way” to “Reservations” and “JourneyView” to “My Journey” are part of this overhaul, aimed at making the app more aligned with guest needs and expectations.

Guests already using the MedallionClass app can expect a smooth transition, as their profile and preferences will be automatically migrated to the new Princess Cruises app. The legacy app will remain functional for cruises sailing through February 2024. After that, the older app will be retired and guests won’t be able to use it.

The new app comes as Princess Cruises wraps up the installation of Starlink Maritime internet onboard its ships, which has been a revolutionary technological advancement in the industry. It should enable guests to use the new app without being hindered by slow internet speeds.

Game Changer in Maritime Connectivity

Alongside the app, Princess Cruises is revolutionizing its internet services by adopting Starlink. Ships like Discovery Princess, Grand Princess, Royal Princess, Sky Princess, and Sapphire Princess are reported to have Starlink equipment installed onboard, with several already operational.

Other vessels are either being installed or plans are in place to install Starlink in the coming period, although Princess Cruises has not made any announcements on when it expects to have the service rolled out across the fleet.

This integration marks a significant enhancement in internet connectivity onboard, offering high-speed and reliable internet service. It is that reliable internet connectivity that Princess Cruises sorely needs. For around two years now, the cruise line has touted its Mediallionclass connectivity as being one of the fastest in the industry, a claim which the cruise line failed to deliver on.

Medallionclass, which uses SES Networks satellite service, has been surpassed by the service from Elon Musk’s Starlink Maritime service, which offers extremely low latency and high bandwidth, up to 300 Mbps. This gap in service quality has been evident in passenger experiences, where many have reported sluggish internet speeds on Princess Cruises, often falling below the 2 Mbps mark.

With the upcoming launch of the Princess Cruises app and the integration of Starlink Maritime, Princess Cruises will significantly elevate the onboard guest experience.

Carnival Cruise Line Makes Significant Package Price Hike

Carnival Cruise Line has announced changes to its Wi-Fi package pricing, with rates increasing from Friday, December 8, 2023. Booked guests do have a few days to lock in lower rates if they pre-pay for an internet package before the rate increase takes effect.

Internet Prices Increasing on All Carnival Cruise Ships

Carnival Cruise Line has emailed booked guests and affiliated travel partners to alert them to an upcoming increase in Wi-Fi internet packages across the Carnival fleet, with new pricing starting on Friday, December 8, 2023.

All package prices will increase for both pre-cruise and onboard purchases. The rate changes are as follows (all in USD):

Social Plan

This is Carnival’s least expensive plan, allowing guests to stay connected to family and friends back home via social media and apps, including Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, and several others. This plan also includes access to the most popular airline websites in case travelers need to check in for flights or make travel arrangements.

Current pricing is $12.75 per day when purchased before sailing, or $15 per day when purchased onboard. From December 8, the rate will increase to a pre-cruise price of $15.30 per day and $18 per day when purchased onboard, an increase of 20% regardless of when the package is purchased.

Guests should note that the Social Plan does not include access to email, streaming services, video chats, or most websites.

Value Plan

The most popular Wi-Fi plan is the Value Plan, which includes not only social media and airline websites, but also news, sports, weather, banking, and entertainment sites – though not streaming services. The speed for the package is faster, and guests can easily post pictures using the Value Plan.

Cruise Wi-Fi
Cruise Wi-Fi

Before the increase, this plan is $17.00 per day when purchased pre-cruise, or $20.00 per day when purchased onboard. After December 8, the price will increase to $19.55 per day when bought before sailing, or $23.00 per day when bought onboard after embarkation. This is an increase of 15% over the current pricing.

Premium Plan

The fasted internet speeds with the most access to social networking, email, websites, and apps, including several types of video calling and conferencing, the Premium Plan is a great option for passengers who must stay connected while at sea, either for their own enjoyment or for some work requirements or other obligations, though video and music streaming are still not supported.

Currently, Carnival’s Premium Wi-Fi Plan is available for $18.70 per day before cruises, or $22.00 per day onboard. From December 8, the new pricing will be $21.25 per day for pre-cruise purchases, or $25 per day when purchased onboard the ship. Either way, this is a 13.6% increase for the package price.

Savings Can Be Locked In

Booked guests – or those who complete a booking prior to Friday, December 8 – can still lock in the lower rates by pre-paying for internet packages before the rate increase goes into effect, regardless of when their cruise sets sail.

“Make sure to add your Wi-Fi package early to lock in the current package price for your upcoming cruise,” the notification email read.

Pre-booking before the price increase can be a significant savings depending on the package travelers choose and the length of their sailing, as longer cruises and stronger internet packages command higher savings.

These price increases follow similar price increases Carnival Cruise Line implemented in mid-October for Australia cruises.

Guests interested in booking internet packages should note that all packages must be purchased for the full length of a cruise, and are not available on a day-by-day basis.

Furthermore, no internet plan is necessary to use the Carnival Hub App, which is essential for keeping up with onboard activities, menus, showtimes, and announcements during each cruise.

Bahamas Port Officially Breaks All-Time Cruise Passenger Record

Nassau Cruise Port has officially surpassed its all-time highest number of cruise passengers in a year, and it still has one month to go before the full 2023 numbers can be tabulated. This is a great sign of cruising’s comeback and increased popularity, as well as how desirable a destination the Bahamas is for travelers.

Nassau Cruise Port Breaks Annual Record in 11 Months

Nassau Cruise Port’s all-time record of annual cruise passengers was set in 2019 with an astonishing 3,859,183 travelers. Now in 2023, in just 11 months, the port has broken that record with a count of 3,869,003 passengers.

This is a great achievement for the revitalized and renovated port that has put so much into ensuring an amazing experience for every guest, smooth operations for multiple cruise ships at once, and a focus on Bahamian culture to really give visitors a true sense of the Bahamas.

Nassau Cruise Port CEO, Mike Maura Jr., has called the new record a “monumental milestone” even as there is still more to come in December, with dozens of cruise ships yet to visit for peak holiday season travel.

Reaching 4.2 Million Guests

Ultimately, the port has a goal of greeting 4.2 million passengers in 2023, which means there need to be 330,997 guests visiting in the next 31 days.

This may well be within the port’s reach, as already on Friday, December 1, there were five ships in port – Celebrity Summit, Symphony of the Seas, Crystal Serenity, Disney Dream, and Carnival Freedom.

Together, these five ships could have brought nearly 17,000 visitors to the port, if each ship was sailing fully booked with all berths filled. With holiday cruises sailing full steam ahead, ships are likely to be more fully booked than earlier in the year.

Through the month, Nassau Cruise Port has nine days with six cruise ships scheduled for visits – Wednesday, December 6; Sunday, December 10; Tuesday, December 12; Wednesday, December 13; Tuesday, December 19; Thursday, December 21; Sunday, December 24; Wednesday, December 27; and Thursday, December 28.

Many other days also feature four or five ships, and there are no days at all this month without at least one ship visiting. In fact, only one day – Monday, December 18 – has just a single ship scheduled in port, Royal Caribbean International’s Vision of the Seas.

Breaking Records All Year in Nassau, Bahamas

Nassau Cruise Port has been breaking visitor records throughout the year, starting with a single-day record on February 27 with 28,554 passengers from six different ships, representing four different cruise lines. That one day already broke the prior records set on January 5 (25,393 guests) and again on January 8 (26,396 guests).

By June 30, more than 2.2 million cruise guests had visited Nassau, already surpassing 2019’s record of 2,011,754 guests for the first six months of that pre-pandemic year. By reaching that goal even before the summer season really amped up, it was clear that 2023 was going to be a spectacular year for the capital of the Bahamas.

“Occupancy remains strong at 109 percent and bookings for the remainder of 2023 forecast a strong yearend result,” said Maura Jr. at that June milestone.

At the end of September, the cruise port had amassed 3,224,210 visitors, higher than the full-year total of 3,212,603 recorded in 2022, the first full year of sailing after the industry shutdown.

The port’s new expansion that opened at the end of May has not only increased capacity for ship visits, but has also made the port itself more of a destination. The 11-acre facility features local Bahamian retailers and artisans, a detailed Junkanoo museum, and an outdoor cultural amphitheater hosting concerts, movies, seasonal celebrations, and more for residents and cruise guests alike to enjoy.

With so much to offer at such a convenient cruise port, Nassau is likely to continue growing and entertaining millions of cruise passengers every year.

Celebrity Cruises Officially Christens Newest Edge-Class Ship

There is reason to celebrate at Celebrity Cruises, as the cruise line christened its newest Apex-class cruise ship in Port Everglades, Fort Lauderdale: Celebrity Ascent. The unveiling was done during a special naming ceremony, with the ship’s godmothers and twin captains in attendance.

The fourth ship in the Edge-clas series of groundbreaking cruise ships, Celebrity Ascent was handed over to Celebrity Cruises on November 8 of 2023. She has recently completed a series of shakedown cruises and will set sail on her maiden voyage on December 3.

A Ceremony Filled With Modern Maritime Traditions

Celebrity Cruises has officially named its newest cruise ship, the 3,260-passenger, 140,600 gross-ton Celebrity Ascent. The vessel was introduced to the world during a glittering naming ceremony that was filled with maritime traditions with a modern touch.

Celebrity Ascent is the first cruise ship in the world to feature two godmothers, who are also sisters, and two Captains, who are also brothers. Co-godmothers, Captain Sandy Yawn, from the well-known TV series Below Deck, and her sister Michelle Dunham, the Founder of the Jacksonville School for Autism, headlined the ceremony.

The ceremony featured the breaking of a champagne bottle against the ship’s hull under the watchful eye of Greek brothers Captain Dimitrios Kafetzis and Captain Tasos Kafetzis, who will act as the Co-Captains of the vessel, a first in the industry.

“Celebrity Ascent has been designed to feed our guests travel wanderlust and provide unique experiences they will covet and love,” said Laura Hodges Bethge, President at Celebrity Cruises

“Captain Sandy and her sister Michelle, co-Godmothering Celebrity Ascent, add another, and more personal dimension, to this already extraordinary ship. Their connection, combined with the brotherly bond of the ship’s captains, exemplifies the sense of welcome and warm hospitality we strive for on every cruise.”

Construction for Celebrity Ascent started on November 17, 2021, and the vessel was handed over by the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard of St. Nazaire, France, nearly two years later, on November 8, 2023. She arrived in Fort Lauderdale on November 30.

Pioneering Design and Slight Differences

Although Celebrity Ascent is the fourth in the Edge-class series, following Celebrity Edge (2018), Celebrity Apex (2020), and Celebrity Beyond (2022), there are some distinct differences in her design. She is around 20 meters longer than the original Celebrity Edge, with more space, particularly on the outside decks, and features even more luxury amenities onboard.

“With each new ship, our ambition is to debut the ultimate vacation experience and Celebrity Ascent achieves this by raising the bar for premium travel,” said Jason Liberty, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group.  “Her elevated design and new onboard experiences set her apart from competitors and serve as a new benchmark for the travel industry.”

The Rooftop Garden has been revamped to offer a more open and panoramic environment. For Aqua Class guests, the Blu restaurant now includes an option to dine outdoors. Additionally, there’s a fresh take on the Le Voyage restaurant, masterminded by Chef Daniel Boulud, featuring a new design and menu.

Celebrity Ascent To Offer Range of Eastern and Western Caribbean Cruises

Following the naming ceremony, Celebrity Ascent will spend two days in Fort Lauderdale, in preparation for her maiden seven-day voyage setting sail on December 3, 2023. Ports of call on the official maiden cruise include Philipsburg, St. Maarten, Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, and Puerto Plata.

Upon returning to Fort Lauderdale on December 10, Celebrity Ascent will spend the winter alternating Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises to Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Nassau, Tortola, St. Kitts, and more.

On April 14, 2024, Celebrity Ascent will sail on a Transatlantic voyage to Europe, after which she will spend the summer cruising the Mediterranean from Barcelona, Piraeus, and Civitavecchia, to ports such as Naples, Mykonos, and Santorini.

Carnival Cruise Ship Loses Distinctive Feature Temporarily

Carnival Panorama is once again on the move toward Portland, Oregon for dry dock repairs to resolve her engine issues, but without one key feature – the ship’s iconic whale tail funnel has been removed.

This is good news for guests booked on the ship’s next scheduled sailing, her Christmas cruise departure on December 23, 2023. That cruise is still planned on time after the repairs are completed and the funnel is reinstalled.

Carnival Panorama Funnel Removed

After several days of waiting for the proper equipment and engineers to be available, Carnival Panorama has had her winged funnel removed in Victoria, British Columbia. The funnel was removed on November 30, 2023, but will be reinstalled before the ship welcomes guests again.

While the ship will be undergoing dry dock repairs in Oregon, it was only in Victoria where the appropriate equipment was available to remove the ship’s funnel so she can fit underneath bridges to reach the dry dock facility in Portland.

“The Whale Tale has been taken off successfully last night and the ship left for her dry dock in Astoria. Remember, she could not pass under the bridge in Astoria with it on so, off it came,” explained John Heald, Carnival Cruise Line Brand Ambassador. “And I should say that the Whale Tail was actually designed to be removed.”

This is similar to how Carnival Freedom‘s whale tale was removed after the fire in May 2022 that damaged the funnel’s starboard wing. The wings were safely removed, and the ship continued to sail with a modified straight funnel until it was able to be replaced during a October 2023 dry dock in Cadiz, Spain.

Satellite tracking now shows the 133,500-gross-ton Vista-class Carnival Panorama underway toward Portland, moving at 12 knots (14 miles per hour / 22 kilometers per hour) with a scheduled arrival of approximately 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 2.

Once the repairs to Carnival Panorama‘s engines are complete, she will need to return to Victoria to have her funnel reinstalled before she will then return to her homeport in Long Beach, California.

Christmas Cruise Still Scheduled to Sail

The removal of the funnel will be welcome news to guests booked on Carnival Panorama‘s December 23 departure, a 7-night Mexican Riviera cruise from Long Beach visiting Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas.

Many guests will have booked the Christmas cruise – as well as the following week’s New Year’s sailing – as a special holiday treat and a wonderful family travel tradition to celebrate the season, and of course it would be very disappointing if those cruises were to be cancelled.

Guests booked on either of those sailings should remain in close contact with Carnival Cruise Line or their travel agent in case there are any further cancellations or updates.

So far, a total of six cruises have been cancelled for the ship since she developed engine problems in early November. Because her maximum cruising speed is impacted, it has not been possible for Carnival Panorama to complete her planned itineraries. At the time the problems surfaced, two ports of call had to be cancelled for the ship to return to Long Beach on schedule.

The ship has had similar engine problems in the past, and seems to have the same propulsion difficulties as her Vista-class sister ships, Carnival Vista and Carnival Horizon. All three vessels have had similar technical problems at different times with the Azipod propulsion system.

Here’s hoping that this emergency dry dock will correct the issues for Carnival Panorama and she will have smooth sailings moving forward with her whale tail intact, as she welcomes 4,008 guests aboard for each cruise at double occupancy, or as many as 5,097 travelers when fully booked for amazing cruise vacations.

New TUI Cruises Ship Floats Out at Shipyard

In the serene winter landscape of Turku, Finland, TUI Cruises’ newest addition, Mein Schiff 7, marked a significant step in its journey towards completion with the float-out ceremony.

This milestone event, set against the backdrop of the Meyer Turku shipyard, signifies the first time the vessel has touched seawater, an essential phase in the shipbuilding process.

Mein Schiff 7 is just one of three cruise ships the German cruise line currently has under construction. In Italy, TUI Cruises is building Mein Schiff Relax, and Mein Schiff 9

Mein Schiff 7 Floats Out

TUI Cruises celebrated the float-out ceremony at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland today, December 1, 2023. The float-out ceremony is an important step for the shipyard, as it will now be able to evaluate whether or not the vessel is seaworthy and structurally sound.

Construction of the 115,000 gross-ton Mein Schiff 7 began on June 14, 2022. The vessel, the latest since the launch of sister ship Mein Schiff 2 in 2019, represents a new chapter in sustainable cruising.

Designed to accommodate 2,900 passengers, Mein Schiff 7 is packed with sustainable measures designed to make her one of the most advanced cruise ships in the world.

TUI Cruises Mein Schiff 7
TUI Cruises Mein Schiff 7

“We are delighted that the latest addition to the Mein Schiff fleet, Mein Schiff 7, is now afloat. This vessel, a sibling to Mein Schiff 1 and Mein Schiff 2, not only brings a host of exciting new features for our guests but also embodies our commitment to environmental sustainability with its use of innovative low-emission fuels.” says Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises.

Innovation To Achieve Net-Zero Cruising

At the heart of its design is the use of lower-emission marine diesel with a sulfur content of just 0.1%. The ship is equipped with catalytic converters, achieving a significant reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions by approximately 75%, and possesses shore power connectivity.

Furthermore, Mein Schiff 7 is built to potentially run on green methanol, a climate-friendly fuel derived from renewable energies. Its waste treatment plant is particularly interesting.

This facility includes the “HydroTreat” system, which processes organic waste using thermal treatment. The system separates organic waste into liquid and solid components.

TUI Cruises Mein Schiff 7

The liquid is treated and added to the ship’s wastewater treatment system, resulting in purified water. The solid waste is transformed into BioChar, a substance useful in agriculture for soil improvement and as a feed additive.

The capabilities exhibited on Mein Schiff 7 align with the sustainable vision of TUI Cruises. The cruise line wants to be one of the first in the world to move towards emission-free and climate-neutral cruising and offer the first climate-neutral cruises by 2030. However, the vessel is first and foremost about having an enjoyable cruise.

Culinary Experiences and Onboard Amenities

Guests on Mein Schiff 7 will experience the blend of innovative culinary experiences and comfort that TUI Cruises has been steadily building its reputation on.

The ship introduces new dining concepts, including a fresh Asian and sushi Restaurant, an Italian restaurant serving top-class Mediterranean cuisine, and a European cafe known for its coffee and pastries. All in all, the 2894 guests onboard will be able to choose from a range of 12 restaurants and 17 bars.

Mein Schiff 7‘s maiden season is set to commence on June 23, 2024, taking guests through the Baltic region. The first cruises depart from Kiel and Warnemünde, Germany, to destinations like the Norwegian Fjords and Arctic Circle and ports such as Stavanger, Eidfjord, Molde, North Cape, and Longyearbyen on Spitzbergen.

Future Fleet Expansion

The introduction of Mein Schiff 7 is part of a broader strategy by TUI Cruises to expand its fleet, with two more ships under construction. The company has plans to introduce two 160,000 gross tons LNG-powered cruise ships, Mein Schiff Relax and Mein Schiff 9, currently being built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy.

The float out of Mein Schiff 7 and the construction of the two InTUItion-class ships marks an important step in the evolution of the cruise industry towards more sustainable and environmentally friendly practices. With its advanced design, and focus on eco-friendly fuel options, Mein Schiff 7 is set to be a game-changer.

Cunard Line Continues Record Bookings for Black Friday Period

Cunard Line has reported continued record-breaking bookings through the Black Friday period, continuing an increase in demand for the line’s distinctive luxury that began during the wave season earlier in the year.

With Queen Anne set to debut in May, this popularity shows just how cruise travel is in demand, especially for new vessels and amazing itineraries, both of which Cunard Line is poised to offer.

Cunard Line Sees Highest-Ever Black Friday Bookings

For the Black Friday booking period, luxury British cruise line Cunard has seen its highest-ever bookings compared to the same holiday sales period in previous years.

This follows the cruise line’s spectacular start to 2023 with the busiest ever wave season of bookings in the past 10 years. The demand for reservations covers sailings from 2023 into 2025, with the upcoming Queen Anne‘s maiden season proving exceptionally popular for cruise travelers.

“Following a record start to the year with our strongest Wave campaign in ten years, we have seen unparalleled bookings during the latest Black Friday period,” said Katie McAlister, Cunard President.

“It’s fantastic to see momentum for our newest ship Queen Anne gathering pace, and these results are testament to the enduring appeal of Cunard’s commitment to unrivalled luxury, unique White Star Service, and unforgettable holiday experiences.”

While the cruise line has not disclosed exact numbers for these record-breaking booking periods, it is sure to include interest from experienced Cunard Line cruisers as well as travelers new to the line who are looking for an authentic ocean liner experience.

The line prides itself on classic luxury and amazing nautical connections with its 183 years of experience offering unforgettable sailings around the world, including its iconic transatlantic journeys.

Sailing With Queen Anne

When she sets sail in May 2024, Queen Anne will become the fourth active ship in the Cunard fleet, the first time the cruise line has operated four vessels simultaneously since 1999. As a matter of interest, the ship will be the 249th vessel to ever sail with the cruise line.

“We look forward to a bumper start to 2024 with ever-increasing demand for Queen Anne as we approach the final countdown to her maiden voyage in May,” said McAlister.

The new ship will bring new experiences and amenities to loyal Cunard cruisers and new guests alike, including unique specialty dining options that span global tastes, from Japan to India to Britain.

New wellness spaces will also be featured on Queen Anne, offering luxurious pampering and an elegant and relaxing retreat. The top-deck Pavilion with a retractable glass-domed roof will be especially popular, with its Wellness Cafe and fitness studio.

While Queen Anne was originally scheduled to debut in early January, supply chain issues at the shipyard during her construction led to several months’ of cancellations as her inaugural voyage was pushed back until May 2024. That first sailing will now be a 14-night Canary Islands cruise departing May 10, which will be followed by a 14-night British Isles itinerary from May 24.

The new ship will visit many desirable destinations in her first season from Southampton, including top ports in the Mediterranean, the Norwegian fjords, Scandinavia, Scotland, northern Europe, and Iceland.

Of special note will be the ship’s first historic transatlantic crossing in January 2025 as she begins her first world cruise, which will completely circumnavigate the globe from Hamburg, Germany in what is sure to be a momentous sailing.
