Changes to Norwegian Prima Sailing Due to Unexpected Port Congestion

On July 8, 2025, Norwegian Cruise Line notified booked guests more than seven months ahead of their cruise of some important itinerary changes.

The letter, noting all the changes, was sent to passengers booked on Norwegian Prima’s 7-night sailing departing from Port Canaveral on March 1, 2026.

“Every now and then, unexpected changes pop up, like port availability, that can shake up even the best-laid plans,” the letter explained.

“Sometimes we are informed that space is no longer available for that the vessel cannot be accommodated due to its size and the number of other ships scheduled to be in port that day,” it continues.

Norwegian Prima is Norwegian Cruise Line’s seventh-largest vessel, sitting at 143,535-gross-tons with a maximum passenger capacity of 3,950 — meaning that berthing issues could impact this vessel.

While the cruise line tried its best to ensure that the itinerary guests booked was the one that happened, updated port availability warranted multiple changes to this particular sailing.

The first change made was the departure time from Port Canaveral, which was originally set for 6 p.m. but will now be at 4 p.m. local time.

Then, the stop in Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas on day two, as well as the stop in Montego Bay in Jamaica on day four, were both cancelled.

Other stops that have not been cancelled include George Town in the Cayman Islands, as well as the stop in Cozumel in Mexico

However, parts of the itinerary have been shifted to accommodate the replacements made for the cancelled ports.

Originally, day two was scheduled for the stop in the Bahamas, but it will now be a day at sea.

Then, Cozumel was moved from day six to day three, with the port time shifting from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. to now being 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Next, the stop in George Town was moved from day five to day four, replacing the stop in Jamaica that was cancelled. The port time was also updated from being 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. to now being 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

One new port of call was added on day five, with the vessel now stopping in Falmouth, Jamaica, from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The last change to the itinerary was the swap from the visit in Cozumel on day 6 to now being an additional day at sea.

Some booked guests are not thrilled by these changes, as there are now two cancelled ports, with only one new stop being added in Jamaica.

The good news is that Norwegian Cruise Line allows passengers to cancel without penalty up until the final payment is due for their cruise, which falls 120 days prior to embarkation.

That means that any guest wishing to now cancel this cruise due to the itinerary changes can do so by November 1, 2025, if they want a full refund.

While the itinerary changes may not be ideal, the guests booked on this cruise might want to be grateful that it was not fully cancelled.

Norwegian Cruise Line Cancels 41 Sailings

Just this past week, Norwegian Cruise Line announced the sudden cancellation of 41 of its sailings between November 2026 and March 2027.

This included 21 voyages on Norwegian Breakaway, as well as 20 on none other than Norwegian Prima.

Both ships are set to be redeployed to new homeports, but the cruise line has yet to provide further information about where either vessel will end up.

For now, most sailings have been cancelled from late 2026 into early 2027, and booked guests will receive a full refund along with a 10 percent discount as a Future Cruise Credit (FCC).

While cancellations might be worse than itinerary changes, in both circumstances, Norwegian Cruise Line is at least trying to communicate as early as possible with booked guests to allow them the time to rebook if need be.

New Details Revealed About Celebration Key’s Food, Access, and More

Carnival Cruise Line’s Brand Ambassador John Heald is getting bombarded with questions from guests wanting to know more about Celebration Key, the cruise line’s highly anticipated private destination on Grand Bahama Island in the Bahamas.

As a result, Heald shared a detailed video update on July 8, 2025, revealing new details about Celebration Key, including transportation, food options, accessibility, and what’s included for guests.

Accessibility Revealed

Set to open July 19, 2025, Celebration Key will be a 10-minute walk from ships that call, with transportation options for guests who need assistance, he began.

“If you come off the ship and you’re going to Celebration Key, you need to give yourself 10 minutes’ walk, that’s all,” he said.

The carts will be equipped with side ramps for wheelchair access, and Carnival Cruise Line is encouraging guests with mobility scooters to ride down the flat pier, if able.

There will be four ADA-compliant golf carts available, as well, each holding up to three guests, plus 14 larger trams seating up to 12 people each, with Heald pointing out that isn’t a lot for a ship carrying 4,000 people.

“If you can walk, please walk it,” he urged.

Dining Options

Heald also discussed food options and addressed what is free and what isn’t. Every passenger will receive one complimentary meal at any of the destination’s 14 quick-service food outlets.

“All you do is go up to one of these locations, hand them your Sail & Sign card, and they will scan it,” he explained. “That’s it. You don’t need to add a gratuity or anything else.”

The complimentary menu includes items such as hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken tenders, hot dogs, mac and cheese, Caesar salads, and vegan or vegetarian options like falafel.

“Everything will come with fries and a large cookie,” he added. “No matter what you order, you get a cookie.”

For those wanting more upscale options, Celebration Key will also feature a number of sit-down restaurants at an additional cost.

One of the featured venues, Gill’s Grill, will offer seafood options like shrimp, snow crab, Caribbean lobster, and salmon, and is where Heald says he plans to go.

Coffee and donuts will also be available for purchase. “There is apparently the best doughnut shop in the world,” he said, noting he was told that by Carnival Cruise Line’s senior vice president of hotel operations.

Heald also revealed a “swingers’ bar,” where guests can relax and swing while enjoying drinks from the bar.

Guests can use either their Sail Sign card or a personal credit card to purchase additional items, with the entire destination cashless.

What’s Free and What’s Not

Heald clarified several times that guests will have access to a number of complimentary amenities including shaded seating areas, beach chairs, umbrellas, and towels – “enough for everybody.”

Although he said with a grin, “please return the towels” and that guests are welcome to bring their own pool noodles and floats.

Freshwater and access to the massive lagoon, described by Heald as “epically massive” and “majestic,” are also included.

Excursions can be pre-purchased through Carnival’s website, but guests are also free to explore the open areas of Celebration Key without paying extra. “There are so many areas that you can go to for everybody,” he said.

Guests can also come and go between the ship and Celebration Key as often as they’d like. “But I think once you get there, you won’t want to leave,” Heald added.

He ended the video by promising additional updates and behind-the-scenes views once he’s onsite starting July 19, 2025, including footage of the lagoon, the ADA carts, and the sit-down restaurants.

Celebrity Xcel Cruise Ship to Feature Four New Spaces

With just four months to go before Celebrity Xcel enters service, the fifth Edge-class ship from Celebrity Cruises revealed more details about spaces and experiences guests can look forward to, such as pool parties and retro games.

The 3,260-guest new-build is under construction at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in France and will sail her first voyage, a 4-night preview cruise from Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades, on November 9, 2025.

The preview voyage was added in April 2025, when the line announced that construction was ahead of schedule and the vessel would debut earlier than originally planned.

The new onboard experiences detailed by the line on July 8, 2025 reflect an eclectic mix of activities, from playing darts, shuffleboard, and Pac-Man in a new lounge, to innovative relaxation areas in the ship’s spa, and a luxury-level pool club featuring chilled towels and a VIP option.

Also, the cruise line’s first Celebrity Flagship retail store will be the place where guests can find branded souvenirs of their vacation at sea.

“Celebrity Xcel will set sail with seven new elevated experiences that invite guests to escape their daily routine and make memories that will last a lifetime, said Laura Hodges Bethge, president of Celebrity Cruises

“With so much innovation at every turn, the journey will be just as fun as the destinations themselves,” added Hodges Bethge.

The cruise line earlier this year disclosed other newly envisioned spaces the ship will offer, including The Bazaar, a three-story area focused on local cultures that the ship’s itineraries will feature, and an open-kitchen restaurant called Mosaic.

New Relaxation Spaces, Poolside Galas Set to Debut

Let’s take a look at the new relaxation space guests can enjoy in The Spa aboard Celebrity Xcel.

The Hydra Room will be among several therapeutic areas in the facility, featuring a hot tub, heated lounge chairs, and a quiet, soothing atmosphere.

An outdoor deck, Vitamin D, will be accessible only to Thermal Suite guests and offer ocean views beyond the ship’s bow and a choice of complimentary non-alcoholic beverages.

A fundamental element of most cruises is the poolside ambience, and Celebrity Xcel is on track to deliver big time with its new Celebrity Pool Club. Comfy sun-beds and a pool valet who delivers chilled towels will lend a luxurious aspect to the club.

A VIP package will add a private cabana and dedicated wait staff service. (Prices have not been revealed.) The pool area will come alive on the final at-sea day of each voyage, with Caribbean-inspired music and drinks, plus pop-up shows and various pool games.

The event is called the Poolest Day Ever, and wraps up with a Shine the Night poolside party that will likely go into the wee hours.

Guests can step back in time at the new space called Attic at The Club, a lounge geared to adults who enjoy games such as Pac-Man — the video game from the 1980s, plus pool, foosball, shuffleboard, and darts.

The ship’s Celebrity Flagship store is being designed as a retail space but it also will have interactive screens that ask trivia questions. Souvenirs for sale will include clothing, water bottles, keychains, and lots of items that can be engraved.

Following Celebrity Xcel’s preview cruise, she will sail her maiden voyage on November 18, 2025, a 5-night cruise roundtrip from Port Everglades to Bimini, Bahamas, and Cozumel, Mexico.

The 140,600-gross-ton ship will offer 7-night Caribbean and Bahamas voyages until May 2026, when she repositions to Europe for a series of Western Mediterranean summer cruises roundtrip from Barcelona and between Barcelona and Athens.

The ship will return to North America in October 2026, when she will homeport in Miami and sail a winter series of Caribbean cruises.

Power Outage Hits Celebrity Cruises Ship, Extends Port Visit

Celebrity Infinity’s current 7-night voyage to Greece has met a major hiccup.

While docked in Kusadasi, Turkey, on July 7, 2025, the 2,170-guest ship allegedly experienced a small electrical fire that led to a power outage.

It’s unclear exactly when and where the fire occurred, but these situations are most common in engine rooms around electrical panels, switchboards, and cabling.

According to current passengers, the blackout lasted for several hours with no power for announcements from the crew and no air conditioning.

“While most guests (including myself) were ashore there was a small electrical fire onboard Celebrity Cruise’s Infinity while docked in Kusadasi, Turkey. It was a total blackout for a few hours,” a current guest shared in the early morning hours of July 8 from the port.

With the cruise port hitting a high of 91 degrees Fahrenheit on July 7, the lack of air conditioning was the biggest complaint in cruise forums.

But for the most part, guests have been expressing their appreciation for the crew during this difficult situation and making the most of spending a bit more time exploring the Turkish city.

“I have to shout out the crew on this ship as they fielded concerns for all aboard. No power meant no communications, power to rooms, AC, Delayed Shows, Delayed Meals (kitchens literally went into a near total standstill), and obviously disappointed guests,” the cruiser added.

“It was a very hot day in Turkey today as well, so that added to the pressure.”

It’s unclear if all power has been restored as of the time of publication, but the fire was quickly put out and crew members are hard at work on making the necessary repairs.

Cruise tracking data shows that the 90,940-gross ton ship has extended her visit in Kusadasi, as she is still docked when she was meant to depart at 9:00 p.m. on July 7.

Per current guests, she will remain in the port until the late afternoon of Wednesday, July 9, to ensure all systems are functioning properly before heading back out to sea.

Cruise Hive reached out for a statement and received the following from a Royal Caribbean Group spokesperson: “Our team is addressing a technical issue. We have communicated with our guests directly.”

For context, Royal Caribbean Group is also the parent company for Celebrity Cruises.

What Happens Next?

With Celebrity Infinity spending over an extra day in port, it goes without saying that the 7-night itinerary has been changed.

The planned calls on Mykonos, Greece, on July 8 and on Kavala, Greece, on July 9 will no longer be possible.

That said, a current guest reported that the crew was trying to replace the sea day on July 11 with a day in Mykonos.

“We’ll miss our scheduled port of Mykonos, Greece tomorrow, but they will remove our one sea day and replace it with that towards the end of the 7 day cruise,” the guest confirmed.

The final port call on Thessaloniki, Greece, on July 10 is so far unaffected, and the cruise ship is expected to disembark as planned in Athens, Greece, on July 12.

Of course, this plan rides on how smoothly the repairs go. If the damage is more extensive than initially expected or there are additional delays, the itinerary could change again.

Guests embarking on the subsequent 7-night Greek sailing on July 12 will also likely want to keep an eye out for any updates from Celebrity Cruises, just in case.

More likely than not, the repairs will go to plan and the Millennium-class cruise ship will soon be fully operational and back in action.

Power outages (and small electrical fires) like this aren’t super common, and thanks to the skill and training of the crew members, can be resolved quickly.

At the end of last week, Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas just suffered an overnight power outage due to minor electrical issues.

However, technicians were able to restore most of the power before the night was through and the only lasting impact was a slightly delayed embarkation for the next sailing.

Sitka Cancelled for Delayed Royal Caribbean Ship, Other Ports Adjusted

More than 24 hours after she was supposed to depart Vancouver to begin a 7-night Alaska Inside Passage sailing, satellite tracking data confirms that Royal Caribbean’s Serenade of the Seas finally began moving at about 6:30 p.m. local time.

The ship had initially departed Vancouver’s Canada Place cruise terminal Sunday afternoon, but turned around and returned to the dock after just a couple of hours.

An undisclosed technical issue caused the ship’s delay, and engineering teams worked on the issue throughout the day on Monday, July 7.

Guests were required to remain onboard the vessel and were not permitted to explore Vancouver while they waited for updates on their sailing.

Unfortunately, updates were not easily forthcoming. Finally, the Royal Caribbean app was updated with a refreshed itinerary, confirming that the first planned port of call, Sitka, Alaska, was cancelled.

The remaining ports of call on the cruise were still planned, though the times in port for each one were slightly adjusted. Serenade of the Seas will now explore the Last Frontier as follows:

  • Tuesday, July 8 – Day at sea (previously Sitka)
  • Wednesday, July 9 – Scenic cruising through Tracy Arm Fjords; Juneau, Alaska from 2:30-9 p.m. (previously 2-7:30 p.m.)
  • Thursday, July 10 – Ketchikan from 3-9:30 p.m. (previously 2:30-10 p.m.)
  • Friday, July 11 – Prince Rupert, British Columbia from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (previously 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
  • Saturday, July 12 – Day at sea
  • Sunday, July 13 – Arrival back to Vancouver

While the time changes are not strongly significant at any one port destination, some shore tours will undoubtedly need to be adjusted slightly to accommodate the ship’s new schedule. If tours were booked through Royal Caribbean, these adjustments will be made automatically.

If tours are unable to be adjusted, guests will be notified individually of any cancellations, and refunds will be provided.

At this time, guests have not yet been informed of any onboard credit or pro-rated refund for missing Sitka. It is possible this may yet be forthcoming, but it would need to be approved and authorized from the cruise line’s headquarters.

On the previous sailing, her June 29 departure, Serenade of the Seas developed similar technical problems that required reduced speed and the ship skipped Icy Strait Point. For that disappointment, guests were provided an onboard credit equal to one day of their cruise fare.

It is entirely likely, though not confirmed, that similar compensation may be offered to guests currently onboard and finally setting sail on their Alaskan cruise vacation.

Has the Problem Truly Been Fixed?

Guests – both those onboard as well as passengers booked on upcoming sailings – are understandably nervous about whether or not the technical issue has been fully corrected.

Of course, if it has, Serenade of the Seas should have smooth sailing and guests are in for amazing experiences as they visit different ports.

If the problem recurs, however, it is possible that additional adjustments may be necessary and more ports could be removed from the itinerary if the ship’s speed must be reduced.

This could then have a knock on effect to additional sailings, possibly even leading to full cruise cancellations. This happened with Radiance of the Seas during her Alaska season in 2024.

Serenade of the Seas and Radiance of the Seas are sister ships – could they be having similar technical difficulties? Time will tell, but Cruise Hive wishes the ship and everyone aboard smooth and safe cruising.

55 Passengers Evacuated From Burning Bus Following Cruise

While Florida is known for its hot summer, things got way too hot on a bus taking cruise guests home from their vacation over the weekend.

A bus taking recently disembarked cruise passengers from their Florida cruise port to Georgia spontaneously caught fire on the morning of Saturday, July 5, 2025, while driving along Interstate 95 near Daytona Beach.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but it seems like everything escalated quite quickly and without warning.

“We just came off a cruise. Fifty-four or 55 people having a good time, and then out of nowhere, there is chaos, fire. I mean, the truck burned to a crisp,” Tanetta Hampton, who was on the bus with her 7-month-old daughter Naomi, told 7 News Miami.

“I didn’t even think to grab my baby’s baby bag with her formula and diapers and things,” Hampton continued.

Hampton and her daughter had just disembarked from a Carnival cruise, although it’s not clear which ship they came from. However, this likely means other passengers were Carnival guests as well.

It’s also not known which cruise port or ship the recent guests were coming from, but Port Canaveral (Orlando) would be the closest port to Daytona Beach at around 60 miles away.

While all the cruisers were able to safely evacuate from the burning vehicle, most had to leave their luggage and personal belongings behind.

Footage from witnesses shows the motor coach completely engulfed in bright orange flames and black smoke with luggage still stored just out of reach in the underbelly of the bus.

Hampton also spoke about the panic at the scene: “Some family trying to get their luggage, some family like, ‘Oh, it’s going to explode, get away,’ so it was a lot of emotions up.”

“People were like crying and tussling with each other, trying to save family from going, you know, towards the fire. That was the scariest part, was the panic of everybody even outside of the bus,” she added.

Thankfully, personal belongings can be replaced and no injuries or deaths have been reported – which is what really matters at the end of the day.

As a bit of a social media influencer, Hampton was recognized by one of her followers who picked up her family from the side of the road and drove them the rest of the way to Georgia.

The other passengers were picked up by another bus, which reportedly reached its destination safely.

Is Bus Travel Safe for Cruisers?

Although the cause of this bus fire has not been released, it was most likely a freak occurrence related to something like an electrical malfunction or fuel leak.

Authorities are already investigating the incident to determine the cause and make sure it doesn’t happen again.

But as this is the second bus incident in about two weeks, some cruise passengers may be wondering how safe traveling by bus really is.

Indeed, a school bus carrying 46 cruise passengers collided with an SUV in Ketchikan, Alaska, on June 26, 2025.

That said, thousands (if not millions) of cruise passengers board buses as part of shore excursions and to travel to and from their cruise ports every year with no issue.

Traveling to and from cruise ports via bus is a good option for cruisers trying to save a few bucks.

For example, a flight from Orlando (where Port Canaveral is) to Atlanta, Georgia, can cost $80 per person round-trip on the low end to over $300 at the high end.

There are bus stops either within or very close to Port Canaveral, PortMiami, Port Tampa Bay, and Port Everglades, so additional transportation methods, such as taking an Uber, would not be necessary.

Meanwhile, a bus from Port Canaveral to Atlanta takes just about a day and costs around $70 to $75 per person.

The Florida cruise ports also offer shuttle services to and from their local airports, with prices usually ranging between $20 to $40 for the trip.

Dry Dock Change Cancels Five Carnival Breeze Cruises

Another change in dry dock scheduling has hit Carnival Cruise Line, this time impacting a total of five sailings aboard Carnival Breeze.

The cruise line has reached out to booked guests, alerting them to the cancellations and offering alternatives (with incentives!) if they wish to rebook.

The following sailings are now cancelled for Carnival Breeze:

  • January 11, 2027 – 4 nights
  • March 5, 2027 – 8 nights
  • March 13, 2027 – 4 nights
  • March 18, 2027 – 4 nights
  • March 22, 2027 – 5 nights

“Due to a short-term change in itinerary and dry dock plans (scheduled maintenance) for Carnival Breeze for the specific timeframe referenced above, we are sorry to inform you that the above voyages, including yours, have been cancelled,” the notification read.

All of the impacted sailings are from the ship’s Galveston homeport and are Western Caribbean cruises. Each of the cruises was to have visited Cozumel, Mexico, with other ports such as Progreso, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica on the longer sailings.

The reasoning behind the dry dock scheduling change has not been disclosed, but it isn’t uncommon for shipyard schedules to need adjustment due to labor management, supply chain concerns, or overall maintenance work bookings.

Because the “scheduled maintenance” for the 128,000-gross ton, Dream class Carnival Breeze is now going to take longer to complete, this does lead to speculation about whether or not the ship needs more work than anticipated.

This is unlikely, however, considering the dry dock is still 18 months away. If the maintenance needs were urgent, it would be necessary to pull the ship from service rather than extend a planned maintenance period more than a year away.

This is not the first time in recent weeks that Carnival Cruise Line has cancelled sailings due to dry dock changes.

At the end of June, it was necessary to extend Carnival Liberty‘s time in dry dock and cancel her first sailing due to switching shipyards. A labor dispute caused the change, but Carnival Liberty has now completed the work and is returning to New Orleans to welcome guests on July 13.

In late May, Carnival Conquest had six cruises cancelled in January 2026, and in both Carnival Horizon and Carnival Magic have had sailings cancelled. For all three ships, the changes are related to dry dock scheduling adjustments.

Incentives Offered for Rebooking

Carnival Cruise Line is offering several incentives for cruisers who wish to rebook on different sailings. The cruise fare rate will be protected for any “comparable sailing in similar accommodations,” ensuring guests can enjoy the best price for their cruise vacation.

Also, guests will receive $25 of onboard credit per person (up to $50 per stateroom) for most of the cancelled cruises. Guests who were booked on the now-cancelled March 5, 2027 sailing – the 8-night cruise – will receive $50 of onboard credit (up to $100 per stateroom).

If guests do not want to rebook, they will receive a full refund of their cruise fare and any pre-purchased items such as pre-paid gratuities, wi-fi packages, or drink packages.

Even non-refundable deposits will be refunded, as the cruise line is the one cancelling these sailings, not the guests.

Refunds will be processed automatically after July 21, 2025. If guests wish to reschedule their cruise, they should contact Carnival Cruise Line or their travel agent before then to ensure they can receive the onboard credit and price protection for their new vacation plans.

While it will be disappointing for guests to learn their cruises must be cancelled, getting the notification more than 18 months ahead of sailing will be helpful for choosing another Carnival cruise or otherwise adjusting vacation plans.

Royal Caribbean Ship Turns Around Back to Homeport With a Problem

Royal Caribbean’s Serenade of the Seas has returned to Vancouver just two hours after setting sail, with as-yet-undisclosed technical issues having a significant impact on her current sailing.

The ship was to have departed Vancouver on Sunday, July 6, 2025 for a 7-night Inside Passage sailing in Alaska. While Serenade of the Seas did in fact leave (albeit a bit later than originally scheduled) she turned back after just two hours and as of Monday afternoon, remains in Vancouver.

Guests onboard have noted that the ship appears to be having engine difficulties and travelers are not being permitted off to explore the Canadian city. No safety systems have been impacted.

The current problems follow difficulties on the previous cruise as well, when Serenade of the Seas was forced to skip a visit to Icy Strait Point as well as a day of scenic cruising so the issues could be worked on.

During that sailing, “speed restrictions from a technical issue onboard” were cited as the difficulty, though the exact nature of the technical issue was not disclosed.

Royal Caribbean did not notify guests now onboard the ship’s July 6 departure of any anticipated itinerary changes or other adjustments to their sailing, though that now seems inevitable.

Serenade of the Seas was to have been arriving in Sitka, Alaska for a visit from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8. Given that the ship is still docked in Vancouver, it would be all but impossible to keep that original itinerary.

Undoubtedly guests will receive updates onboard as the issue is further investigated. It is hoped the ship may be able to sail an adjusted itinerary and guests will be informed as soon as plans are confirmed.

Hopefully, the situation aboard Serenade of the Seas will not be as convoluted as what happened aboard Radiance of the Seas in 2024, with similar propulsion problems that impacted multiple cruises, including a cancelled sailing after guests had already embarked.

The two vessels are sister ships at 90,090 gross tons with a guest capacity of just over 2,450 travelers.

Stay tuned to Cruise Hive for updates as information affecting Serenade of the Seas is confirmed.

Norwegian Cruise Line Clarifies Redeployments for Two Ships

Speculation has run high about the plans for Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Prima following the mass cancellation of more than 40 sailings aboard the two ships.

Now, Norwegian Cruise Line has revealed the new sailings and homeports for both vessels, with options that will be very exciting for cruisers.

New Homeport for Norwegian Breakaway

A total of 21 sailings for Norwegian Breakaway were cancelled. This is the ship’s entire season from San Juan, Puerto Rico, covering departures from November 8, 2026 through and including the March 28, 2027 sailing.

Now, the ship will be setting sail from the Big Easy, offering colorful 7-night itineraries for guests to enjoy.

“Norwegian Breakaway will sail from New Orleans offering Norwegian Prima’s original Western Caribbean cruises,” a letter to guests confirmed.

“Yes, your original itinerary will still be available from New Orleans, but now on Norwegian Breakaway!”

These new bookings will be available for reservations from Friday, August 8, 2025.

Guests who had been booked aboard Norwegian Prima sailing from New Orleans will receive a full refund for their now-cancelled sailing, but they will not be automatically rebooked on Norwegian Breakaway.

They will, however, also receive a 10% future cruise credit that can be used as a discount on a new booking, including Norwegian Breakaway‘s season from New Orleans.

The credit can also be used on any other Norwegian Cruise Line ship from any homeport in any sailing region through December 31, 2027.

The 145,655-gross ton Norwegian Breakaway can welcome 3,963 guests at double occupancy, more than 860 extra guests than Norwegian Prima.

While the ship is older, the larger vessel and bigger capacity offers spectacular opportunities for cruisers from New Orleans.

Now, over the entire season, Norwegian Breakaway will spend sailing from Louisiana, she will be able to welcome more than 17,000 extra guests aboard, which is above the capacity Norwegian Prima could accommodate.

New Homeport for Norwegian Prima

As Norwegian Breakaway takes over her fleetmate’s sailings from New Orleans, Norwegian Prima will likewise take over the Southern Caribbean sailings that had been planned for Norwegian Breakaway from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

“Your original itinerary will still be available from San Juan, Puerto Rico, but now on one of NCL’s newest, next generation ships, Norwegian Prima!” the cruise line confirmed.

As with the cancellations for Norwegian Breakaway, booked guests are receiving full refunds as well as 10% future cruise credits for the 20 sailings now cancelled for Norwegian Prima.

While the ship has a smaller capacity of just 3,099 guests, moving Norwegian Prima to San Juan brings a new and updated cruise experience to Puerto Rico, offering guests all the updates of the new class with outstanding Southern Caribbean sailings to Aruba, Curacao, the US Virgin Islands, Barbados, St. Lucia, and more.

Personally, I was hoping the cruise line would extend Norwegian Prima‘s stay at Port Canaveral, where she will be homeported from November 2, 2025 through November 8, 2026.

We’re excited to sail on her, but already have plans for her sister ship, Norwegian Aqua, later this month, and we haven’t yet booked for summer 2025. Maybe a spring break cruise!

It isn’t unusual for cruise lines to occasionally rearrange which ships are deployed where based on booking trends, itinerary schedules, and guest feedback.

Undoubtedly, the swapping of Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Prima will draw attention from eager cruisers and both ships will offer fantastic vacations from their new homeports.
