Can you bring a vape on a cruise? Get the latest information about vapes on cruises and the guidelines you need to follow.

Vaping has become increasingly popular. While it’s still debatable how different from cigarettes they are, they are subject to many of the same rules and restrictions. This begs the question: can you bring a vape on a cruise?

In this article, we’ll clarify what exactly a vape is, whether you can bring one onto your next cruise, and the general guidelines to follow.

What Is a Vape?

A vape, also known as an electric cigarette or e-cigarette, is a device that heats liquid to create a vapor you can inhale, hence its name. This liquid typically contains tobacco or marijuana, flavorings, and chemicals to make the nicotine less harsh. As a result, vaping can be a more pleasant experience than smoking cigarettes. Vapes come in a variety of different forms, including:

In general, vapes usually contain less nicotine than cigarettes, but it has many of the same effects on the body, including adverse health effects. Due to the similarities between vapes and cigarettes, smoking guidelines and restrictions are generally treated the same. Knowing all this, you may wonder: can you bring a vape on a cruise?

Are Vapes Allowed on Cruise Ships?

As mentioned, vapes are primarily treated similarly to cigarettes, and cruise ships are no exception. Therefore, you can generally bring a vape on a cruise ship. The question is, what are the rules and regulations around bringing vapes on a cruise? Let’s find out.

Guidelines to Follow When Bringing a Vape on a Cruise

On most major cruise lines, vaping is treated the same as smoking cigarettes. The general rule is that you can only use your vape in designated smoking areas.

These areas will differ based on the cruise ship. For example, in most ships, you aren’t allowed to smoke in your cabin deck, and smoking is only permitted indoors at casinos. You’ll need to review the rules for your specific cruise to determine exactly where those areas are.

To help you out, here are the current vape policies for different cruise lines.

Carnival Cruise Line

On all Carnival cruise ships, vapes and other e-cigarettes are permitted in the casino as long as you’re seated and playing. Otherwise, each ship has designated smoking decks to use your vape.

It’s important to note that no smoking is allowed on the ship on embarkation and debarkation day due to refueling. Check out this page to find the locations you can smoke on each ship.

Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian Cruise Line ships have designated smoking areas in casinos and on the ship’s deck. Smoking is not permitted in staterooms or balconies. However, guests in the Garden Villas may smoke in their private gardens and on their private sun decks.

Royal Caribbean

On Royal Caribbean ships, vapes and electronic cigarettes are treated the same as cigarettes and cigars, and are only permitted in designated outdoor smoking areas with visible signage throughout the ship. The following outdoor areas do not allow smoking at all:

  • Areas near restricted areas
  • Food venues
  • Kids play areas
  • Pools

Be Careful of Your Destination

Although you may be able to bring a vape on a cruise, you may only be able to bring them to some ports. Electronic cigarettes are illegal in some countries, where you may face a hefty fine if you’re caught possessing them. These countries include:
