Carnival Cruise Line and Infrared Cameras Inc have partnered up to implement new health measures for passengers and crew members.
Carnival Thermal Camera Systems
Carnival Cruise Line is gearing up to resume some sailings from August 1, 2020 and due to the global pandemic it is important the cruise line has health procedures and systems in place.
One area Carnival is focused on is health screenings so a partnership with Infrared Cameras Inc based in Beaumont, Texas makes sense. New thermal camera systems will be installed on ships for guest and crew temperature screenings.
Gary Strahan, ICI CEO, said:
“We are proud to have a meaningful partnership with Carnival Cruise Line and look forward to helping the cruise industry return to operations confidently and responsibly.”
“All leading thermal camera solutions have three essential elements. This is what the FDA recommends and how ISO 13154, the international standard for using thermographs to identify febrile individuals, calls for setting up screening operations. Accept no substitutes.”
The three-step solution using the camera system includes a thermal camera, a blackbody, and a computer. he inclusion of a blackbody temperature reference source is an FDA recommendation to ensure accurate results. Without all three essential elements, crew and customer safety may be compromised.

The cameras have the highest level of accuracy and will likely be used during the embarkation process before the cruise vacation begins. They could be at a specific point with the cruise terminal or possibly even on the ship gangway where guests must scan their Sail & Sign cards.
Eight Carnival cruise ships will resume cruises from August 1, 2020 with Carnival Dream, Carnival Freedom and Carnival Vista sailing out of the Port of Galveston; Carnival Horizon, Carnival Magic and Carnival Sensation sailing out of the Port of Miami; and Carnival Breeze and Carnival Elation sailing out of Port Canaveral.
