If you’re looking to modify your Carnival cruise or book a new sailing this weekend, don’t plan to do it on Sunday morning.
Carnival Cruise Line’s booking system will be undergoing routine maintenance on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 4 a.m. ET until 12 p.m. ET.
“In efforts to better support you and help you plan in advance, please be advised our reservation systems will be undergoing maintenance and will be temporarily unavailable,” Carnival wrote in a letter to travel advisors.
This is a planned outage to allow Carnival’s team of computer experts to make necessary system updates, database improvements, and to roll out backend server adjustments to improve the user experience.
The downtimes are usually scheduled for times when the website should be less busy, such as early in the morning, and typically take place at least a couple of times per year.
Most recently, Cruise Hive reported that Carnival’s booking system went dark for 18 hours to undergo planned maintenance in May.
The outage is not expected to extend beyond the listed time frame, but Cruise Hive will monitor the situation and issue an update if there are any last-minute changes.
What Features Will Be Unavailable?
During the 8-hour outage, Carnival’s entire booking system will be taken offline. Unfortunately, there is no way to speed up the process.
This means that guests will not be able to book new sailings, even if they try calling Carnival’s customer service team. The cruise line’s representatives use the same core booking and reservation database and face identical system limitations when the main infrastructure goes offline.
Guests will also not be able to manage existing sailings either. They will be unable to log into their accounts, make payments, book shore excursions, purchase onboard packages, or make dining reservations at the specialty restaurants.
The Carnival HUB app will also go down during this time, as it uses the same backend database to pull reservation data as the website.
Normally, guests are able to use the app to plan cruise activities, purchase gifts and services, book shore excursions, purchase Wi-Fi plans, make restaurant reservations, and eventually complete the online check-in process.
But just because guests can’t see or access their bookings doesn’t mean that they aren’t there or that something has changed. Passengers should be able to access existing bookings and make new ones normally as soon as the maintenance is complete.
What Can Cruisers Do During the Outage?
Guests on the West Coast might be lucky enough to snooze through the planned maintenance, which is supposed to end at 9 a.m. PT. But early risers and eager guests on the East Coast aren’t entirely out of luck either.
Historically, Carnival’s marketing pages with general information about the cruise line’s offerings have still been accessible during planned outages. This gives guests a chance to research and make decisions so they are ready to go when the booking system comes back online.
Additionally, the planned outage will not impact any sailings that are embarking or debarking on August 16. This isn’t like the unexpected technology glitch that impacted onboard systems and delayed several Carnival ships in February.
While guests will be unable to complete the online check-in process during the outage, the timing of this service will not interfere with the deadline to complete this task.
Guests must complete the online check-in process by midnight (Eastern Time) on the final night before departure, or risk major delays at the cruise port and/or may not be allowed to board.
