The newly formed Virgin Cruises is about to reveal further details at a major press event in Miami, Florida on Tuesday morning.
This announcement could be one of the major highlights of the year where CEO Tom McAlpine and Billionaire Richard Branson are set to shake up the industry and bring a new wow factor of cruising. The press event will be held in the city where the cruise industry dominates and is the region where Virgin Cruises will be based.
Last December Richard Branson said:
“We plan to shake up the cruise industry and deliver a holiday that customers will absolutely love. They’ll be sailing on the latest ships offering great quality, a real sense of fun, and many exciting activities all delivered with the famed Virgin service.”
Cruise Hive is expecting some out of the box details including possible news on the two new 170,000 gross ton cruise ships that have reportedly almost been finalised with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri. The new vessels are set to have a modern futuristic design similar to the artist’s renderings that went around the web earlier in the year.
Tom McAlpin said in December 2014, “Cruise guests deserve something better and different to what is being offered today, and Virgin Cruises is committed to creating breathtaking experiences for them and a new generation of guests. Opportunities like this do not come often, so I am very excited to lead this business and introduce the Virgin brand to the cruise industry, as it has always put customers at the heart of what it does.”
Virgin Group has partnered with one of the world’s leading private investment firms, Bain Capital, to work on this new venture. The partnership is committed to exploring the creation of a global cruise business and setting new industry standards.
Virgin Cruises will be taking on cruise industry heavyweights including Royal Caribbean International and the Carnival Corporation, both companies are already headquartered in Miami. Virgin isn’t expected to begin cruising until around 2019 when the lines first new vessel debuts.
