There has been violence in the popular cruise destination of Puerto Vallarta on the mexican west coast. As a result several cruise ships will be skipping the port of call.

The drug gang related violence has caused cruise lines to cancel calls at Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The entire region has become very dangerous and cruise passengers are advised to stay away along with travellers to Mexico. Royal Caribbean .Celebrity Cruises and Disney Cruise Line have all cancelled ship visits.

Royal Caribbean have stated in a statement that “The call to Puerto Vallarta (on May 12) was canceled due to the recently experienced episodes of violent civil unrest, stemming from criminal gangs that have engaged in armed conflict with local authorities,” said Cynthia Martinez, director, global corporate communications for RCCL, the parent company of Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises. “We also canceled Celebrity Infinity’s call on Sunday. We will continue to monitor the situation in Puerto Vallarta.”

Carnival Cruise Line are still sending the Carnival Miracle to the port today but not all shore excursions will go ahead. Disney Wonder’s call was cancelled by Disney Cruise Line and replaced with a day at sea. The cancellations are not long-term and all cruise lines are no doubt keeping a close eye on the situation.
