Upcoming Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship to Debut New Mobile Check-In

Symphony of the Seas which will be the next new Royal Caribbean cruise ship will debut a new mobile check-in process.

The cruise ship will be the world’s largest once it’s delivered in Spring 2018 and the cruise line has already just announced a ton of new onboard features and experiences on the upcoming vessel. Royal Caribbean also detailed a new mobile check-in process for guests.

Symphony of the Seas will be the first ship in the fleet to introduce a new mobile check-in process for passengers when boarding the ship. There will be a newly designed check-in experience which will eliminate those lines which we often see at the terminal.  The new process will leverage a combination of facial recognition, bar codes and beacons to make boarding fast and frictionless.

What will happen is guests can scan and upload their own security ID picture on the new Royal Caribbean app. Guests can create their own onboard account while at home and before they go off on a cruise vacation. When guests arrive the board the ship they will go through a security checkpoint and then head straight to the stateroom where the cabin key will be waiting.

The new process will take away the work which is usually done at the cruise terminal. Using the mobile app options for check-in will speed up and simplify the embarkation day which can often be long and problematic.

Symphony of the Seas will sail its maiden voyage in April 2018 and will begin Caribbean cruises from the new Royal Caribbean cruise terminal at PortMiami in November 2018. It will be the largest cruise ship to ever homeport in Miami and the biggest in the world at 230,000 gross tons and carrying 5,500 passengers at double occupancy.
