German based TUI Cruises has officially christened its brand new cruise ship. Mein Schiff 5 arrived in Travemünde, Germany for a spectacular event and christening by singer and now godmother Lena Meyer-Landrut On July 15.
After the sun went down the 99,500 gross ton ship took center stage, godmother Lena Meyer-Landrut christened it by launching the champagne bottle which smashed against the ship’s bow. The festivities also included a performance from the godmother along with a lavish fireworks and laser display.
Thousands of people lined the Travemünder shore line to get a view of one of the world’s newest cruise ships. There were also celebrities, shipyard and cruise line executives attending the special event.

Mein Schiff 5 immediately set off on July 15 from Kiel, Germany for a 9-night Baltic cruise. The ship will then commence regular service with another sailing on July 24. The 2,994 passenger vessel was delivered from the Meyer Turku shipyard in Germany 10 days earlier. TUI Cruises took control of the ship four weeks ago.
There are 3 more Mein Schiff cruise ships on order, all will be identical design entering service in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
