These three Royal Caribbean cruise ships consistently rate at the top of passengers’ favorites for shore excursions.
Adventure of the Seas
One of the top-rated large ships for shore excursions is Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas. This magnificent vessel is 15 decks and carries over 3000 cruisers on southern Caribbean vacations. Sailing from San Juan makes this cruise among the top popular choices. This gives you the option of taking a pre-sailing shore excursion at this US territory port, and immersing in the multi-cultural atmosphere of Old San Juan. From the 1539 El Morro fort to the oldest governor’s mansion on United States soil, this city is a history lover’s dream.
Aboard the Adventure of the Seas you will also visit St. Thomas, St. Kitts, St. Maarten, St. Lucia, Barbados, Bonaire, Curacao and Aruba.
Empress of the Seas
Royal Caribbean also boasts highly-rated shore excursions on the Empress of the Seas – a mid-sized cruise ship. This vessel has nine decks and transports 1600 vacationers around the Bahamas, Western Caribbean and Cuba. Departing from Tampa or Miami, you can explore Nassau, Cozumel and now Havana!
At the first two shore excursions, enjoy beaches, sun and fun. Swim with dolphins, snorkel in the crystal blue waters, and visit Atlantis Aquarium while docked in Nassau. Marvel at Mayan ruins in Chichen Itza, scuba with certified guides, and even take a submarine ride while at Cozumel.
When you land in Cuba, however, leave the beach fun behind and explore Old Havana. This must truly have been one of the most impressive cities in its heyday; and it’s slowly returning to its unique glory. There are multitudes of architectural sites, impressive museums, welcoming local folks, and amazing food and music to enjoy. A few of the richest shore excursions are the Tropicana Cabaret, the Rum Museum tour (tasting included!), the Museo de la Revolucion (for history buffs), and a guided tour of historic points of interest (such as the Hemingway Excursion).
Grandeur of the Seas
Our third Royal Caribbean ship for exceptional shore excursions is the Grandeur of the Seas. This vessel of 11 decks carries just fewer than 2000 passengers from Baltimore to Canada and New England, Bermuda, Bahamas and the southern Caribbean. With all these ports, there are whole lists of shore excursions for every type of traveler.
In New Brunswick, Canada you can tour the Bay of Fundy, ride a horse drawn carriage in Saint Martin, or take a photography or trolley tour through the city and countryside. Be sure to buy some maple syrup and visit the Maritime Museum while docked in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
When in Boston, you will have the opportunity to see Lexington and Concord, take the Freedom Trail Walking Tour, or visit Old Town by trolley. A stop in Bar Harbor, Maine will delight nature lovers with whale and seal watching, Acadia National Park, and guided walking tours. You can also visit a historic lighthouse and take a haunted history walking tour.
In the Caribbean, you will have access to 140 acres of CocoCay, a private island leased by Royal Caribbean Cruises. In addition to the sand and sea, enjoy a nature park, parasailing, snorkeling, and an aqua park while on your ship’s own private retreat!
