Six Months Until the Largest MSC Cruise Ship to Date

There are just six months until the largest MSC cruise ship arrives and her name is MSC Grandiosa, operated by MSC Cruises.

Six Months Until MSC Grandiosa

We’re now six months away from the largest and MSC’s second new cruise ship of the year and its christening ceremony. MSC Grandiosa will be the first Meraviglia-Plus class ship and among the biggest in the world at a mega 177,000 gross tons. The ship will debut in the port of Hamburg, Germany on November 9, 2019.

The currently under construction vessel will be of similar design to the Meraviglia-class ships including MSC Meraviglia and MSC Bellissima but slightly larger.

The christening ceremony which will take place in Hamburg will be hosted by the internationally known Swedish TV presenter, actress, and singer Michelle Hunziker. This will be her second time hosting since MSC Seaview in 2018.

Michelle Hunziker commented:

“I am delighted to be part of the christening ceremony of MSC Grandiosa in Hamburg. Since the christening of MSC Seaview last year, I feel a part of the MSC family.

I am particularly pleased that the christening is taking place in Germany. I have met great people here and celebrated many professional successes.

For me, Germany means a piece of home and Hamburg has such a wonderful maritime heritage, it will be an honour to become a part of it. I am also looking forward to discovering everything that this new and stunning ship has to offer.”

The new cruise ship will feature the iconic Mediterranean promenade and above will be the 323-ft.-long LED Sky. There will be a new restaurant concept L’Atelier Bistrot, a French-inspired bar with lounge area, which also offers a stage and dance floor as well as a seated terrace. Two brand new Cirque du Soleil st Sea shows will be onboard along with the world’s first virtual personal cruise assistant, ZOE.

MSC Grandiosa is under construction at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in France and once completed will have a guest capacity of over 4,800 at double occupancy. The cruise line will have a further 12 more cruise ships joining the fleet through 2027.
