Second Vista-class Carnival Cruise Ship Closes SkyRide Feature

Carnival Horizon has followed sister ship Carnival Vista by also closing the SkyRide feature down until further notice.

Carnival Horizon SkyRide Closed

Guests who are booked on the August 10 sailing on Carnival Horizon have received an email stating that the SkyRide would remain closed until further notice. The cruise line has not gone into detail as to why the unexpected maintenance is needed but this will disappoint many guests who were looking forward to trying out the innovative and award-winning feature.

Here is what Carnival Cruise Line stated in the email sent out on Thursday, August 8:

SkyRide has been closed for unexpected maintenance. While we are making every effort to complete any recommended work as quickly as possible will remain closed until further notice.

We apologize for any disappointment this may cause and know you’ll enjoy the many other fun features onboard.

We thank you for your understanding and look forward to welcoming you onboard for a fun and memorable cruise.

It seems in the wording of the email that it is also closed on Carnival Horizon’s current sailing which departed Miami, Florida on August 4. It is not known how long the feature has or will remain closed.

This news about SkyRide follows the closure of SkyRide on sister ship Carnival Vista. A similar email and letter were sent out for two different sailings stating the same “unexpected maintenance” which was recommended. Let’s hope the maintenance can fully resolve the reason why SkyRide is continuously closed since first being introduced aboard Carnival Vista in 2016.

Here’s a video also detailing the closure of SkyRide on Carnival Vista:

The cruise line is hoping to have it opened as quickly as possible so guest can experience the first ride of its kind in the cruise industry. SkyRide is located on the top deck from mid-ship towards the aft. It allows two guests to peddle at their own speed all the way around. Guest can enjoy ocean views at 150-feet above the waterline.

Carnival Horizon’s August 10 sailing will depart Port of Miami for an 8-day Southern Caribbean cruise. A third Vista-class ship named Carnival Panorama will join the fleet this December and it will also feature the SkyRide.
