The newest Celebrity cruise ship, Celebrity Apex, which just started sailing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has been officially named onboard in a traditional naming ceremony.
Celebrity Apex Naming Ceremony
In a ceremony onboard the new Celebrity Apex, the vessel was finally christened as the ship sailed away from her new homeport in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
It’s been a long wait as Celebrity Apex was originally set to debut in 2020, but now finally Godmother Reshma Saujani, the inspiring founder of groundbreaking non-profit Girls Who Code and the Marshall Plan for Moms and author of the bestseller, “Brave, Not Perfect,” christened the ship.
Also on hand at the event were Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, Celebrity Cruises President and CEO, andย Richard Fain, Chairman of the Royal Caribbean Group, and hundreds of guests, including local dignitaries and media and influencers in an official naming ceremony.
“This is a day that I’ve been looking forward to for years. Reshma is someone that I’ve admired deeply. She is an industry trailblazer that encapsulates what Apex stands for: pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, challenging stereotypes, and making everyone feel included,” said Celebrity Cruises’ President and CEOย Lisa Lutoff-Perlo. “Her work championing the advancement of women in an industry dominated by males has been nothing short of inspiring. It was deeply moving to watch as Reshma flawlessly executed her first official duty asย Celebrity Apex’sย Godmother, leading the ship’s naming ceremony that has been on hold sinceย March 2020.”
Godmother Reshma Saujani will be more involved with the cruise line than just naming the new ship. She will collaborate to offer Girls Who Code at Sea, an educational coding program, as part of the brand’s Camp at Sea S.T.E.M. experiences onboardย Celebrity Apexย andย Celebrity Edge.
The naming ceremony comes as the Celebrity cruise ship begins her inaugural Caribbean season from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The vessel departed on November 2 on a special two-night voyage to celebrate the second Edge-class ship.
