Royal Caribbean’s new Innovation Lab is to be complete in late January 2017. This modern new space will open up to become a new part of the cruise lines headquarters in Miami, Florida.
The new 20,000 square foot addition will be used for new innovative ideas for future Royal Caribbean ships. The one of a kind addition will increase the speed of innovation for the design team.
Rafael Sixto, AIA, Managing Principal for LEO A DALY Miami, said:
“This is a one-of-a-kind facility, designed around the New Build team’s need to continually deliver game-changing cruise experiences”
One of the main highlights is the 3-story virtual reality “cave”, an area where the designers and innovators can experience a full-size virtual space in 3D. Using 3D glasses this new space will help the company use innovative ways to bring innovative features to the fleet.
David Robinson, VP & GM of Florida with Turner Construction, said:
“We are accustomed to performing projects under a fast-track schedule method, and as we’ve done before for Royal Caribbean, we were able to accommodate their desire for an accelerated schedule. This project really is about raising the bar on innovation in design and construction practices.”
The Innovative Lab is taking just 10 months until occupancy and features modern curves and designed by LEO A DALY. Inside there will be different workspaces where collaborations can be done. No doubt the next major Royal Caribbean innovation will come from the Innovative Lab.
