Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship Undergoes Unexpected Dry Dock

A Royal Caribbean cruise ship is undergoing an unexpected dry dock for some essential technical upgrades.

Ovation of the Seas which is the newest Quantum-class ship from Royal Caribbean is receiving an unscheduled dry dock for some important technical upgrades. According to details given to Cruise Industry News, the cruise line decided to put the ship in a dry dock for work to be done on the propulsion systems, the work is necessary and not urgent.

The vessel is currently based in China and two sailing have already been canceled. The 4-night cruise departing from Tianjin, China on April 26 and another sailing on April 30 were canceled so the ship was able to enter a dry dock in China. Ovation of the Seas is scheduled to resume sailing out on its homeport on Tianjin on May 4, 2017.

Ovation of the Seas entered service in Spring 2016 and is one of the newest in the fleet. The ship is 168,666 gross tons and can carry over 4,100 guests at double occupancy. We’ve reached out to Royal Caribbean and will provide an update if any new details are known.
