Royal Caribbean cruise ships begin delivering Hurricane aid to the Bahamas starting from today including the first urgent delivery by Empress of the Seas.
First Royal Caribbean Ship Delivers Supplies
Royal Caribbean is leading the way in the Hurricane Dorian relief effort in the Bahamas just like Norwegian Cruise Line, Carnival and Disney. The Miami-based cruise line will today start delivering much-needed supplies to the region.
The first ship to deliver is Empress of the Seas based out of PortMiami. A letter was sent out to guests on the current sailing that the ship would be anchoring just off the coast of Grand Bahama Island which was devastated by Hurricane Dorian earlier in the week. The Royal Caribbean cruise ship loaded 10,000 meals, 10,000 bottles of water, medical supplies, generators and more ready to be offloaded via lifeboats.
The ship ended up delivering the supplies today and the call at Nassau, Bahamas will go ahead as normal on Friday. Empress of the Seas is the first cruise ship to deliver aid to the devastated island. The actual Freeport Harbour where cruise ships would dock at normally is currently closed as an assessment is needed of the overall damage and safety for vessels to arrive at.
The cruise line has said that further ships will be delivering supplies to the Bahamas during their itineraries. This support from Royal Caribbean also goes along the $1 million commitment in Hurricane relief for the Bahamas which was announced recently.
Norwegian Breakaway which is operated by Norwegian Cruise Line has also delivered much-needed supplies to the region including their private island Great Stirrup Cay and Nassau. More ships from Carnival owned cruise brands are also expected to make deliveries in the coming days.
