With these worrying times and a safer cruise vacation being more important than ever, Royal Caribbean is adapting its mobile app.
Royal Caribbean App Important for Healthy Return to Service
When cruises do eventually resume one of the most important aspects of keeping guests safe will be the mobile app that is used across Royal Caribbean Group cruise lines.
The cruise company that owns Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, and Azamara is continuously developing its mobile app with new ways to keep guests safe along with new health experiences.
Royal Caribbean has said the app is more important than ever as the company is dedicated to evolving cruises into safer and health vacations. The group has already released Muster 2.0, a new safety drill experience at the start of the cruise.
The app plays a major role in the implementation and is focused on a more personal experience, you can read more about the new experience right here.
The app is already pretty impressive with a range of advanced features to enhance a Royal Caribbean vacation. The app was first introduced in 2017 and is now available on many vessels. Here’s a look at just some of the features that can be used when cruises resume:
- Just announced:ย Muster 2.0ย โ one of the least-loved, but most important, parts of a cruise vacation โ the safety drill โ is transformed from a process designed for large groups of people into a faster, more personal โone-to-fewโ approach that guests can complete at their own time.
- Scheduled arrival timeย โ staggered arrival times for guests help eliminate crowds by managing the ebb-and-flow in parking lots, drop-off areas and terminals to allow for physical distancing from car to stateroom.
- Expedited boardingย โ by completing check-in with the app, scanning passport information and uploading a โselfieโ security photo, guests can generate a mobile boarding pass and qualify for an expedited boarding process. Debuted in 2018, the innovative, digital experience minimizes check-in and security lines at ports, allowing guests to get on board seamlessly and safely in minutes.
- Digital keyย โ guests can unlock staterooms with their smartphones by downloading a digital key, available in just a few taps for select ships and staterooms.
- Stateroom automationย โ using their smartphone, guests have the ability to control elements inside their stateroom, such as the TV, lighting, window shades and temperature, limiting touchpoints while achieving higher levels of stateroom customization.
- Onboard accountย โ guests can view onboard charges and credits in real time from anywhere on the ship without waiting in line or on hold.
- Daily planningย โ onboard activities, entertainment shows, dining and shore excursions are viewable and open for reservations all through the guest mobile app.

It will depend on which ship a guest is on and more features will be rolled out across the 63-ship fleet as development continues. There is no doubt the company’s Healthy Sail Panel in collaboration with Norwegian Cruise Line will also have an impact on using the latest tech to keep guests safe.
Cruise Hive already reported that the netTALK MARITIMEย Integrated Passenger and Crew Communications Experience could be on the way with the company in talks with cruise lines. This offers a full screening solution, virtual check-ups, tracking for easy track and trace during outbreaks and much more.
Cruise lines are gearing up on a phased in return to service and the mobile apps are going to be a key part of making sure the return is successful.
