Propulsion Issues Causes Carnival Ship To Change Itinerary

UPDATE:

Cruise Hive was informed by a crew member that Carnival Fantasy is to depart for dry dock tonight. Carnival has confirmed with us this is not true.

PREVIOUSLY:

The Carnival Fantasy has been forced to change its itinerary due to propulsion issues. The Fantasy class vessel will no longer be sailing a 4-night cruise from Miami, Florida with calls at Key West and Cozumel. The ship is sailing at reduced speed so Carnival decided to change the itinerary to closer calls at Freeport and Nassau, Bahamas.

Carnival also stated on Monday “Carnival Fantasy was scheduled to reposition today from Port Everglades to PortMiami. Delayed clearance from authorities caused the ship to depart Port Everglades later than planned.  As a result, embarkation for today’s voyage has been pushed back to this evening.  Guests already at the cruise terminal have been provided complimentary shuttle service to the Bayside shopping and dining complex.”

Due to the technical problem Carnival is giving a $50 onboard credit to all guests and a 25 percent discount on a future cruise with the cruise line. Comedian Kathy Griffin was scheduled to perform on the Carnival Fantasy on Wednesday 24 February while docked in Cozumel but that show has now been cancelled. Kathy will be performing on Carnival Breeze on the 25th as planned.

Carnival Fantasy is 70,370 gross ton ship carrying over 2,000 passengers at double occupancy. Cruise Hive has contacted Carnival on the status of repairs and if the next cruise departing PortMiami on February 26 will also be affected.
