Princess Cruises Provides Update on Refunds

The cruise line has posted an update on refunds for those who have been impacted by the suspension of operations. Many guests have been frustrated by the length of time it has taken the cruise line to complete the refunds. The cruise line has now responded and understands the situation.

Princess Cruises posted on social media:

As of Friday, May 15, we have refunded millions of dollars of cruises and we continue working through our backlog. Our reservation and payment systems were not designed to handle this volume of refunds in a short period of time, and it is taking longer than we wanted.

As we respect our guests’ money and time, we have increased the number of team members supporting this enormous effort and have made modifications to our systems. These modifications have increased our capacity to process these refunds and we should be issuing at a faster rate beginning this week. Thank you for your patience in these extraordinary circumstances.

So far, millions of dollars have been refunded and Princess Cruises continunes to work through the backlog. The cruise line also mentioned in the post that their systems were not deisnged to ahndle such a large volume in such a short period of time.

The number of staff working on refunds has been increased along with modifications to the system in the hope things can speed up. A faster rate is expected to begin this week.

There is no doubt the suspension on cruise operations is hitting the cruise line hard along with other lines too. Many employees are also working from home which makes it even more difficult. It’s likely this is the same case for other major cruise lines too including sister line Carnival and Holland America.
