The Royal Princess cruise ship operated by Princess Cruises has been held by authorities at Port of Los Angeles and passengers have waited hours at the cruise terminal.
Royal Princess Cruise Cancelled
In another developing coronavirus related situation including Princess Cruises is that the Royal Princess‘ 7-day cruise out of Los Angeles has been cancelled. The cruise line is being hit hard by the deadly virus and it’s not getting any better.
Those who were looking forward to enjoying their Mexican Riviera cruise which was scheduled to depart the Port of Los Angeles in California today have been told that the voyage has been cancelled. This comes after many waited at the cruise terminal for up to seven hours.
The ship has been held in port by the authorities after a crew member who is now on the Royal Princess cruise ship and previously transferred from the Grand Princess which is currently 50 miles off the San Francisco coast and has 21 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
There is no doubt the crew member is being tested for the virus and until the test results come back we’ll know about what will happen. Princess Cruises has released a letter to guests but mainly detailing the refund rather than the reason:
Princess Cruises detailed they were unable to obtain the necessary clearance for embarkation and as a result, they needed to cancel the voyage. Guests will receive a full refund of their cruise fare along with any other related expenses.
The vessel was originally scheduled to depart Los Angeles at around 4:00 PM today and ports of call included Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Rico. Those ports are also the same for the Carnival Panorama which is being delayed just nearby at the Port of Long Beach also because of coronavirus related issue.
Royal Princess is one of the largest ships in the fleet at 142,700 gross tons and with a guest capacity of over 3,500 at double occupancy along with 1,780 crew members.
