A passenger from the Norwegian Spirit cruise ship has reportedly gone overboard and currently missing at sea. An overboard situation is underway including the Spanish Coast Guard.
There are already multiple reports that a passenger from the Norwegian Spirit had gone overboard at around 2 AM in the morning. The yet to be named male passenger is 34 years old and of Saudi Arabian origin.
It is not yet known how he went overboard the Norwegian cruise ship but several assets are searching the region in the Meditteranean Sea near the region of Murcia in south-east Spain.
“We were alerted at 2.15am to a man who had gone overboard from the Norwegian Spirit, around 30 miles southwest of the port city of Cartagena. Several vessels are taking part in an ongoing search along with two coastguard helicopters and a plane. The man who has gone overboard is a 34-year-old of Saudi origin. I do not have information about the circumstances of how he ended up in the water.”
Norwegian Spirit was involved in the search at first but then continued on with the voyage. The ships next scheduled port of call was Alicante, Spain but apparently, the visit has now been canceled. The NCL ship will sail straight for its home port of Barcelona with an expected arrival on April 4. Norwegian Spirit is coming to the end of a 1-night cruise which included sailing to the Canary Islands.
