Norwegian Dawn Resumes Sailing After Month-Long Dry Dock

Norwegian Dawn which is operated by Norwegian Cruise Line has resumed sailing after a month-long dry dock. The multi million refurbishment improved many parts of the ship and added several new features.

The NCL ship sailed into her seasonal home port of Boston this morning to begin its 7-day cruise to Bermuda and back. Those passengers will be the first to enjoy the new look 90,000 gross ton ship.

Andy Stuart, Norwegian Cruise Line president and chief operating officer said:

“As with each of the ship refurbishments in the Norwegian Edge program, this was not your average dry dock, Norwegian Dawn was brought down to the steel in many spaces and rebuilt to evoke the look and feel of the newest Norwegian ships, allowing guests sailing on her to enjoy all of the freedom and flexibility that only Norwegian offers, along with a more premium experience from bow to stern.”

The extensive renovation is part of “The Norwegian Edge”, a $400 million investment which is enhancing the entire guest experience across the fleet. So let’s take a look at what was added:

Dining and Bars

Opening on July 1, Los Lobos Cantina is a new upscale Mexican restourant offering traditional favorites like guacamole prepared tableside, al pastor tacos, enchiladas de mole and hand crafted margaritas, all available à la carte.

A guest favorite, O’Sheehan’s Bar & Grill is making its debut on Norwegian Dawn today, and features signature sports bar décor while offering favorite pub fare and beers on tap.

The Pearly King Pub has been transformed to The Cellars, an upscale wine bar offering tastings and engaging educational events.

Sugarcane Mojito Bar will serve up more than 15 varieties of mojitos in a modern lounge area on Deck 13 adjacent to the new location for Moderno Churrascaria.

Spinnaker Lounge has been transformed to the Bliss Lounge where guests can relax and enjoy a cocktail, with refurnished bar fronts, new contemporary accents, furniture and carpeting.

All the other dining venues which were onboard before will be refreshed including specialty and complementary restaurants. Bars and lounges across the vessel have been upgraded with new decor, furniture and decorations which is common during ship dry docks.

Staterooms

All staterooms got nice new carpets, bedding, drapery, artwork, flat screen TVs and furniture. The dry dock also allowed for a complete makeover of the ship’s two Garden Villas, now featuring a more clean and modern look with brand new flooring and furniture inside and out, new ceilings, lighting, bedding, décor and 42” flat screen TVs.

Public Spaces

The ship’s Atrium features a new modern and clean look with plush carpet and new lighting, chic furniture and a new lounge seating area, as well as enhancements to the Guest Services reception desks.

The onboard shops didn’t miss out on the action with a brand new venue called Tides. The new venue offers a wide selection of fine jewelry.

There are no more added spaces but lots of upgraded ones including the Library, photo Gallery, Pool Deck, Entourage teen space and video arcade, Club Casino, Stardust Theater and the Mandara Spa and Pulse Fitness Center. Plenty of new carpeting and decor to keep the Norwegian Dawn fresh and modern.

The 2,240 passenger vessel is sailing from Boston on week-long itineraries through October. From November 2016 the ship will also be sailing from New orleans on Western Caribbean cruises.
