Norwegian Getaway Rescue

While the Norwegian cruise ship had not long departed its homeport in Miami, Florida cruise passengers spotted a flash of light. After informing the ship crew about the light it turned out to be 4 Cuban nationals adrift at sea.

The news was first reported by Fox News and was also confirmed by the cruise line. Passenger cruising on Norwegian Getaway at the time also posted on social media about spotting 4 people in the middle of the ocean.

A spokesperson provided Cruise Hive with the following statement:

On Sunday, September 2, after departing Miami, Norwegian Getaway rescued four distressed individuals.  The individuals, who are Cuban nationals, were safely brought on board, immediately taken to the ship’s medical facility for evaluation and provided with clothing and food.  The Bahamas Maritime Authority and the U.S. Coast Guard were notified by the ship’s Captain, who was advised to disembark the rescued individuals at the next port of call in Costa Maya, Mexico on September 4.

We are very proud of our team for executing a successful rescue of these individuals.

The stranded Cubans were brought onboard the large ship and provided medical attention and food. They were given clothing which according to Twitter user Pico were crew member uniforms as seen in the following footage:

The U.S. Coast Guard was notified of the rescue and they did disembark the NCL ship during a scheduled port of call in Costa Maya, Mexico on September 4, 2018.
