Norwegian Cruise Line has announced it is doubling the Hurricane relief fund for the Bahamas to $2 million.
Fund Increases to $2 Million for Hurricane Relief
Norwegian Cruise Line is stepping up its Hurricane Dorian relief effort for the Bahamas by doubling its original pledge of $1 million. The cruise line is now committing $2 million will be used for the residents of the Bahamas including the devastated Grand Bahama Island and Abaco Island in the north.
The money will be used in partnership with All Hands and Hearts which will be on the ground providing the funds for things such as debris clean up and removal and the rebuilding of the much-loved islands with houses and schools.
Frank Del Rio, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd, said:
“We understand that tourism represents a significant portion of the Bahamas’ annual GDP and we are actively involved in helping our neighbors get back on their feet by returning to the islands and providing them with the supplies necessary to rebuild along with the needed economic support that tourism brings.”
“The response to our Hope Starts Here hurricane relief campaign has been so overwhelming, we have increased our total commitment to $2 million. We encourage our guests to join us by continuing to support and visit this beautiful destination.”
NCL cruise ships have already been in full action helping in the Hurricane hit region. Norwegian Breakaway was among the first cruise ships to deliver urgent supplies to the Bahamas. On September 5 the Breakaway-class vessel departed PortMiami with items donated by employees and collection partners in Florida. The ship sailed to its private island in the Bahamas Great Stirrup Cay and to Nassau to offload supplies.

Cruise Lines have geared up and rallied around the Bahamas and are now in full Hurricane relief mode. All major cruise lines in the region have already sent cruise ships to the Bahamas. Carnival is sending the Carnival Pride and Carnival Liberty this week and has pledged $2 million with Micky and Madeleine Arison Family Foundation.
Disney Cruise Line has pledged $1 million and MSC Cruises is offering support through partners and its MSC Cargo ships. Royal Caribbean has already sent ships to Freeport on Grand Bahama Island and the cruise line continues to deliver 20,000 meals every day! You can head to NCL’s donating page right here.
