Norwegian Cruise Line released a new update on Tuesday morning regarding the remaining three vessels that were to sail in March 2021. The cruises that were set to take place in March are now cancelled which means all operations will remain suspended until April at the very earliest.

Norwegian Cruise Line Delays Restart

Norwegian Cruise Line was still planning to resume sailings with three ships in March 2021 but now that’s not going to happen. Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Escape, and Norwegian Joy cruises are cancelled for March and the cruise line is now planning on returning in April at the very earliest.

Cruise Hive reported in early December that only three vessels will kickstart sailing before April 2021. More guests will now be impacted by today’s update but the cruise line said it was due to the current global environment:

Your safety is our #1 priority—both on and off our ships. Due to the current global environment, we are extending the suspension of cruises to include ALL cruises embarking through March 2021.

Previously, we had announced the suspension of cruises on all ships except Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Escape, and Norwegian Joy. Today, we have added those three ships to the list of cruises suspended through March 2021.

Impacted Guests

Guests with an active reservation on the three cruise ships will receive a full refund of what they paid. The process is automatic and will be completed by February 2, 2021. An extra 10% credit is also being offered which guests can use to book a future voyage within one year.

The cruise line has also detailed that guests who were impacted by the cancellations on all other Norwegian ships have already received their Future Cruise Credit.

Safe Return of Norwegian Cruise Ships

Norwegian Cruise Line is working with the relevant authorities on a safe return of operations including the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). Work continues to make sure guests and crew members can remain safe.

In fact. NCL recently announced a new air purification system that will be installed across the fleet and it’s been confirmed that the system can reduce the virus in the air within 30 minutes by 99.2%.

So a lot of working is going on behind the scenes and it’s going to take time to get each vessel prepared. Crew members need to make their way back to the ships and the CDC requirements on the Conditional Sailing Order need to be met.
