The next Holland America cruise ship Nieuw Statendam has reached a major construction milestone and has launched at the shipyard.

Nieuw Statendam is the next new cruise ship for Holland America Line and the ship reached a major construction milestone at the Fincantieri Marghera shipyard in Venice, Italy. A coin ceremony was celebrated as the future vessel now begins the fitting out phase.

Madrina of the ceremony was Anne Marie Bartels who is an elite President’s Club loyalty program member and very dedicated to the cruise line. As tradition at the coin ceremony, a silver dollar on the forward mast of the ship was welded in and when the ship is in service passengers will be able to take a look at the coin through a small window on the top deck.

As the exterior construction is complete the focus will shift to the interior spaces. Hundreds of workers will bring the venues to life which guests will eventually enjoy when Nieuw Statendam enters service for Holland America in November 2018.

Nieuw Statendam is the second Pinnacle-class ship and the sister ship to ms Koningsdam which joined the fleet in Spring 2016. Nieuw Statendam will be 99,500 gross tons, carry 2,660 passengers, feature more than 1,300 cabins and 300 meters long.
