A naked man has jumped off the newest Aida cruise ship and needed to be rescued.
Bild is reporting that a 24-year-old male passenger jumped from the newest Aida cruise ship Aidaperla. The overboard happened on Friday at around 6:30 AM, June 30 when the Aidaperla was entering the port in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
The reason the man jumped overboard is unclear but he was apparently cruising with his grandmother onboard the Aidaperla. The passenger was very lucky and a local harbor pilot was on the scene to take the man out of the water.
Footage of the man in the water swimming towards the harbor pilot was caught on camera:
The overboard incident on Aidaperla came just hours before the brand new German-based cruise ship was christened in Palma de Mallorca. The vessel had arrived in port to complete its 7-day itinerary and after the christening ceremony which took place in the evening the ship departed on another cruise the following morning, July 1.
Aidaperla was built in Japan and is 300 meters long at 125,000 gross tons and carrying over 3,200 guests at double occupancy. The ship is sister to Aidaprima which was also built in Japan. They are the largest cruise ships in the fleet but an even larger class is coming in 2018.
The male passenger was later taken to a hospital on land and we do hope he recovers well.
