Mega Cruise Ship Becomes Largest Ever to Port in Manhattan

One of the largest MSC cruise ships to be built so far has finally arrived in North America for the very first time and becomes the largest ever to dock there.

MSC Meraviglia Makes North America Debut

As part of MSC Cruises’ huge North America expansion, one of the largest cruise ships in the fleet and in the top 10 largest in the world has arrived in Manhattan for the very first time.

The MSC Meraviglia arrived at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal in New York City today and is in fact the largest ever cruise ship to ever dock there. She will continue to break records as will also become the largest to call at Boston and Portland.

Ken Muskat, EVP & Chief Operating Officer of MSC Cruises (USA), said:

“We are so thrilled to welcome MSC Meraviglia, a truly beautiful ship, to the U.S. as she marks another major milestone for MSC Cruises in the North American market.”

“Due to significant demand, for the first time in MSC Cruises history we now have four distinct ships sailing in the region as MSC Meraviglia joins MSC Seaside, MSC Armonia and MSC Divina. With each ship offering its own unique design and guest experience inspired by our European heritage, we look forward to providing travelers with even more choice and variety to best fit their vacation needs.”

The mega cruise ship which is the first in her class will offer three sailings from New York City including two itineraries to New England and Canada and one repositioning to her new homeport in Miami, Florida.

The first Caribbean which departs NYC on October 28 will also include the first cruise ship visit to MSC Cruises’ new private island destination in the Bahamas called Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. The private destination will open on November 9, 2019.

Starting from November 10, 2019, the ship will sail two different week-long Caribbean itineraries through April 5, 2020. One of the sailings will call to Ocho Rios, Jamaica; Georgetown, Cayman Islands; Cozumel, Mexico; Ocean Cay, Bahamas. Prices start at $629 per person for a balcony stateroom.

The other sailings will include calls to Miami, Florida; Isla de Rotan, Honduras; Belize City, Belize; Costa Maya, Mexico; Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, Bahamas; Miami, Florida. Prices start at $639 per person for a balcony stateroom.

Unfortunately, MSC Meraviglia won’t remain based out of the United States and will reposition back across the Atlantic for a Northern Europe season from April to October 2020. She will return to the U.S. In October 2020 and once again offer three sailings from New York and then Caribbean cruises from Miami.

Over the next 8 years, the cruise line is set to expand its innovative, modern fleet from 16 to 25 cruise ships. MSC Meraviglia is 171,598 gross tons and has a guest capacity of 4,488 at double occupancy.
