Hurricane Joaquin Increases To Category 4

UPDATE

Royal Caribbean has changed the itinerary for Enchantment of the Seas due to Hurricane Joaquin. The cruise lines posted “Enchantment of the Seas will not be able to call on Nassau, Bahamas as originally scheduled. Instead, the ship will sail to Freeport, Bahamas in an effort to try to find the calmest seas possible.”

Cruise lines are still affected by Hurricane Joaquin which has now strengthened to a category 4. The storm is still hovering over the Bahamas but will move away over the weekend.

The National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Joaquin has maximum sustained winds of 130 MPH and is moving very slowly toward the north-west. Joaquin is currently located around 30 miles away from Clarence Long island Bahamas. Cruise lines are keeping an eye on the storm’s developments as it affects many cruise itineraries calling in the Bahamas.

Apart from Carnival Pride and Carnival Valor itinerary adjustments on October 1 there have been no other Carnival ships affected. Norwegian Getaway has canceled its call to Nassau on October 1 and will have a day at sea instead. Royal Princess which is operated by Princess cruises has also cancelled its call to the cruise lines private island of Princess Cays on October 2.

Hurricane Joaquin

There are watches and warnings for most of the Bahamas and as Joaquin movies north just off the coast of the U.S. East coast more warning and watches could be activated. The Hurricane is causing heavy rainfall, strong winds and high swells. Cruise Hive will keep readers updated on any new developments. Please ready our previous report on Hurricane Joaquin for cruise ships that were forced to alter itineraries earlier.
