First Steel Cut for Cunard Line’s New Ocean Liner

The steel has been cut for British based Cunard Line’s new ocean liner at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy.

Construction Commences on New Cunard Vessel

The first piece of steel has been cut as construction officially begins on a new Cunard ocean liner. The major milestone was celebrated at the Fincantieri’s Castellammare di Stabia shipyard in Italy for the cruise line’s 249th vessel.

The first piece of steel cut will be used as a sculpture displayed on the new ship for guests to enjoy and marks a landmark moment in the company’s 179-year history.

Josh Leibowitz, SVP Cunard North America, said:

“After years of planning and design, we are thrilled to see the building process begin for our newest ship.”

“The new ship will be the fourth in our fleet, taking inspiration from our past, integrating the Cunard spirit with exciting new concepts and ideas that will provide a uniquely luxurious travel experience for our guests.”

The yet to be named ocean liner will be the second-largest ever constructed for the iconic cruise line. We don’t know too many specifics yet as she won’t enter service until 2022 but bookings will open next year so more will be revealed by then.

The ship will join the world-famous Queen Mary 2 which was the world’s largest passenger vessel when she entered service in 2004, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth. When the new ship joins her sisters she will take the Carnival-owned cruise line into a new era of cruise luxury and experience.
