A Fantasy-class Carnival cruise ship will be moving from its current homeport of San Juan, Puerto Rico to Mobile, Alabama in 2022.
Carnival Fascination is Changing Homeports in 2022
Carnival Cruise Line has announced that Carnival Fascination will reposition from its current homeport of San Juan, Puerto Rico to Mobile, Alabama in 2022. The Fantasy-class vessel will begin cruises from Alabama on January 16, 2022.
This means the ship will take over from the Carnival Fantasy which is currently based out of Mobile. The vessel will continue to sail its popular 4-day and 5-day itineraries from Mobile through January 2022. Carnival Fascination will pick up on the same itineraries and those bookings are opening today.
Fred Stein, Carnival’s vice president of revenue planning and deployment, said:
“Carnival Fascination will bring some exciting new features to the Mobile market, including a greater variety of balcony accommodations, a Bonsai Sushi Express venue, the cocktail pharmacy-themed Alchemy Bar and a Cherry On Top sweets shop.”
“We have worked with the Mobile community over the last several years to successfully build demand and create this opportunity for a newer ship to enter the market.”
You might be wondering what is happening to the Carnival Fantasy which is the oldest ship in the fleet. The cruise line is set to reveal its plans for the vessel in the coming months which could include a new deployment or even being sold. Carnival is also evaluating options to return to San Juan after 2022 to offer eastern and western Caribbean cruises.

Carnival Fascination was delivered to Carnival in 1994 and is over 70,000 gross tons with a guest capacity of over 2,000 at double occupancy. Carnival Fantasy is the same class ship and is currently the oldest in the fleet, the ship was delivered in 1990 and its last dry dock was in early 2019.
