Disney Cruise Line has announced it has entered into a memorandum of agreement with the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany to build 2 new cruise ships. The 2 new ships will be the largest ever built for the cruise line at 135,000 gross tons which is slightly larger than the Disney Dream and Disney Magic. The ships will be completed in 2021 and 2023.
Robert A. Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company said:
“We pride ourselves on the unforgettable vacation experiences we deliver to our guests each and every day, and the expansion of our Disney fleet will allow us to create even more magical memories for families at sea and in incredible cruise destinations around the world,”
It is too early for all the details as Disney Cruise Line is still developing the ship names and itineraries but the cruise line did say the ships will have around 1,250 guest staterooms. Â Disney Cruise Line is planning on bringing a magical experience to the sea and we’ll hear more about these details over the coming months and years.
Bob Chapek, Chairman, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts said:
“The expansion of Disney Cruise Line only adds to our excitement for the unprecedented growth taking place across our vacation destinations, from new Star Wars experiences coming to the Walt Disney World and Disneyland resorts to the 25th anniversary of Disneyland Paris and the grand opening of our newest park, Shanghai Disney Resort,”
The cruise line currently operates 4 ships with the largest at 129,700 gross tons. The announcement comes during huge Disney expansion and success. Star Wars has become a huge hit in theaters, on its ships and new Star Wars attractions in its resorts. Disney Cruise Line will reveal further details about the new orders soon.
