Costa Cruises and everyone else within the cruise industry has started counting down to the Italian based cruise lines up coming cruise ship Costa Diadema.

There’s now less than 150 days until the christening ceremony of Costa Diadema which is to be held in Genoa, Italy on November 7th 2014. It’s been the newest ship to be built since Costa Facinosa in 2012.

In case you’re wondering why Costa has not yet announced a godmother it;s because the cruise line will be running a competition from July to September between selected travel agents which are partnered with Costa. The winner will be the ships godmother.

The christening itself will be an extra special occasion as Genoa is where Costa Cruises began and has it;s current headquarters. The ceremony will begin at 5pm located at the Costa Diadema’s location at Ponte dei Mille cruise terminal. There will be many ways to watch the events unfold for guests from different decks and of course the main theater called Emerald where the event will be held. All the traditional maritime ways will be followed to christen the 132,500 ton ship.

Guests onboard will also be treated to a special Mediterranean dinner and then will be entertained through the night with music and performances.

The same night Costa Diadema will set sail from Genoa and will be given a spectacular light show illuminating the sky above the new flagship. The ship will arrive at Savona on November 8th to begins its inaugural voyage. There will be three inaugural cruises departing on the 8, 15 and 22 November 2014.

After a month of inaugural itineraries Costa Diadema will begin its winter season out of Savona on seven-day western Mediterranean cruises it will continue all the way through the 2015 summer season.

Costa Diadema is currently being built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Venice and is expected to be delivered on October 30th 2014.
